• NHibernate SchemaUpdate adding existing foreign keys again?

  I'm using SchemaUpdate to synchronize my hbms with existing database. Database has recently created based on hbms and is completely up-to-date. But SchemaUpdate generates all foreign key constraints again. For example suppose you have Student and Teacher. Student has association to Teacher with name ArtTeacher. ArtTeacher is a foreign key from Student to Teacher. Suppose database is up-to-date and currently holde Student, Teacher and their foreign key relation. So HBM and Database are equivalent. Know SchemaUpdate must not do anything but when I see its generated scripts, it re-produce that foreign key again. Why this happens? Is there any way to avoid it?

  Here is the situation dealing with a vb.net website, I have students who will be enrolled into a course. The student grid view has many columns like client_no, student_name, date_of_birth, address, etc. There are over 100000 students so I will need to filter the student grid view to find the correct student to enroll in the course. Once they are found, the user selects them and somehow moves them to the enrolled grid view. If a student drops out then they would be removed from the enrolled grid view. This process needs to be easy to understand and use. Are there any examples available or other suggestions on how to do this?

• Is there a unique computer identifier that can be used reliably even in a virtual machine?

  I'm writing a small client program to be run on a terminal server. I'm looking for a way to make sure that it will only run on this server and in case it is removed from the server it will not function. I understand that there is no perfect way of securing it to make it impossible to ran on other platforms, but I want to make it hard enough to prevent 95% of people to try anything. The other 5% who can hack it is not my concern. I was looking at different Unique Identifiers like Processor ID, Windows Product ID, Computer GUID and other UIs. Because the terminal server is a virtual machine, I cannot locate anything that is completely unique to this machine. Any ideas on what I should look into to make this 95% secure. I do not have time or the need to make it as secure as possible because it will defeat the purpose of the application itself. I do not want to user MAC address. Even though it is unique to each machine it can be easily spoofed. As far as Microsoft Product ID, because our system team clones VM servers and we use corporate volume key, I found already two servers that I have access to that have same Product ID Number. I have no Idea how many others out there that have same Product ID By 95% and 5% I just simply wanted to illustrate how far i want to go with securing this software. I do not have precise statistics on how many people can do what. I believe I might need to change my approach and instead of trying to identify the machine, I will be better off by identifying the user and create group based permission for access to this software.

  I am trying to build a large Associative Array in JavaScript (22,000 elements). Do I need to worry about the length of the indices with regards to memory usage? In other words, which of the following options saves memory? or are they the same in memory consumption? Option 1: var student = new Array(); for (i=0; i<22000; i++) student[i] = { "studentName": token[0], "studentMarks": token[1], "studentDOB": token[2] }; Option 2: var student = new Array(); for (i=0; i<22000; i++) student[i] = { "n": token[0], "m": token[1], "d": token[2] }; I tried to test this on Google Chrome DevTools, but the numbers are inconsistent to make a decision. My best guess is that because the Array indices repeat, the browser can optimize memory usage by not repeating them for each student[i], but that is just a guess. Thanks.

• Why won't my Internet stay connected?

  I recently updated to Ubuntu 12.04, from Ubuntu 10.04, and my Internet, USB760 Novetel Verizon-Wireless Mobile Broadband, will connect after a minute of me starting the computer up. But after a while it will disconnect and the only way to reconnect it is to restart the computer. Even then, sometimes it won't work. I've also noticed that since I've upgraded the computer, the computer will randomly enter into Power Save mode, and then it will tell me to log back in. I've done nothing to provoke it, other than using the Internet. I was wondering, could the entering into Power Save mode and the Internet disconnecting be somehow connected? I've updated the computer every time it asks me to do so, but it doesn't seem to be helping. If Ubuntu 10.04 would still be supported by next year, I would downgrade. But I have no other choice than to stick with 12.04. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

• Ubuntu boots into terminal

  When I turn on my computer (a CR-48), I keep loading tty1. I have tried xstart, and all I get is: Fatal server error: Could not create lock file in /tmp/.tX0-lock When I attempted to make the directory (both sudo and not), I received these two errors: sudo: Can't open /var/lib/sudo/don/tty2: Read-only file system (I've gotten other tty's for different virtual terminals) mkdir: cannot create directory '/tmp/tX0-lock': Read-only file system Before I got to the only terminal state, I had the computer moving a few files from a network server to the computer, I put it to sleep without stopping the transfers, and started the computer again away from my home network, and attempted to stop the transfers, the computer than restarted. Running sudo reboot puts me right back in the virtual terminal, and I can't get into any sort of x application.

• Stuck in logon loop

  Here's the deal. I set up a computer with Ubuntu 10.04 for my grandmother. Everything worked fine. I connected it to the internet at her house today. After rebooting the computer I found that the computer would kick you back to the logon screen if you attempted to logon to her account. It worked fine logging on to my admin account, and also in Gnome's safe mode. I thought it had resolved itself, but turns out it hadn't, and now I don't have physical access to the computer, plus the remote connection I'd hoped to use only works intermittently. I need some suggestions for troubleshooting for when I'm at her house at some point next week. Ask for any more details, but I'm afraid I won't be able to provide many more until I've checked it out in person, since she is basically unable to use a computer beyond web browsing.   I have installed 13.10 on a new computer and want to tranfer my purchase (Braid) there. I have read this page about how to do this. However, when I log in to https://software-center.ubuntu.com/subscriptions, nothing appears. My guess is that when I purchased this game, I used an older email address than the one I am currently using. Ideally I would like to be able to transfer this purchase to my current ubuntu one account. Or, if this is not possible, at least to have a chance to know with which account this purchase has been done so I can have a try to reinstall it somewhere else. NB: In the Ubuntu Software Center on my older computer the game is still there and marked as "already purchased". EDIT: This is not an upgrade issue, as my old computer has not been upgraded to 13.10, and my newer computer is, well, new, 13.10 being its first OS. Note that I don't see my purchases on the software center web site on my old as well as my new computer, which makes sense.

  Someone called me saying their computer keeps shutting off. I brought it home to troubleshoot. It's an HP Pavilion 513c. The computer powers on normally but almost immediately powers off. Sometimes it manages to make it to a fully loaded desktop and other times it powers off during the boot process. The hard drive still spins but there is no video and the CPU fans quit spinning. The power has to be unplugged before you can turn it back on again. I'm thinking it's either a motherboard or power supply issue. I don't have a spare of either component laying around to test with. Any guess on which part is more likely to be the culprit? Thanks.

• "This file came from another computer..." - how can I unblock all the files in a folder without having to unblock them individually?

  Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista have this deal where zone information is preserved in downloaded files to NTFS partitions, such that it blocks certain files in certain applications until you "unblock" the files. So for example if you download a zip file of source code to try something out, every file will display this in the security settings of the file properties "This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer" Along with an "Unblock" button. Some programs don't care, but Visual Studio will refuse to load projects in solutions until they've been unblocked. While it's not terribly difficult to go to every project file and unblock it individually, it's a pain. And it does not appear you can unblock multiple selected files simultaneously. Is there any way to unblock all files in a directory without having to go to them all individually? I know you can turn this off globally for all new files but let's say I don't want to do that

This article will review how innovation has become the lifeline for growth within consumer products companies and how certain companies are “winning” by creating a competitive advantage for themselves by taking a more enterprise-wide,systematic approach to “innovation”.   Managing the Science of Innovation within the Consumer Products Industry By: Keith Colonna, Value Chain Solution Manager, Oracle The consumer products (CP) industry is very mature and competitive. Most companies within this industry have saturated North America (NA) with their products thus maximizing their NA growth potential. Future growth is expected to come from either expansion outside of North America and/or by way of new ideas and products. Innovation plays an integral role in both of these strategies, whether you’re innovating business processes or the products themselves, and may cause several challenges for the typical CP company, Becoming more innovative is both an art and a science. Most CP companies are very good at the art of coming up with new innovative ideas, but many struggle with perfecting the science aspect that involves the best practice processes that help companies quickly turn ideas into sellable products and services. Symptoms and Causes of Business Pain Struggles associated with the science of innovation show up in a variety of ways, like: · Establishing and storing innovative product ideas and data · Funneling these ideas to the chosen few · Time to market cycle time and on-time launch rates · Success rates, or how often the best idea gets chosen · Imperfect decision making (i.e. the ability to kill projects that are not projected to be winners) · Achieving financial goals · Return on R&D investment · Communicating internally and externally as more outsource partners are added globally · Knowing your new product pipeline and project status These challenges (and others) can be consolidated into three root causes: A lack of visibility Poor data with limited access The inability to truly collaborate enterprise-wide throughout your extended value chain Choose the Right Remedy Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions are uniquely designed to help companies solve these types challenges and their root causes. A best practice PLM solution should help a company grow its revenues by consolidating product development cycle-time and helping companies get new and improved products to market sooner. PLM should also eliminate many of the root causes for a product being returned, refused and/or reclaimed (which takes away from top-line growth) by creating an enterprise-wide, collaborative, workflow-driven environment. Reduce Costs. A strong PLM solution should help shave many unnecessary costs that companies typically take for granted. Rationalizing SKU’s, components (ingredients and packaging) and suppliers is a major opportunity at most companies that PLM should help address.
