  • Should boost library be dependent on structure member alignments?

    - by Sorin Sbarnea
I found, the hard way, that at least boost::program_options is dependent of the compiler configured structure member alignment. If you build boost using default settings and link it with a project using 4 bytes alignment (/Zp4) it will fail at runtime (made a minimal test with program_options). Boost will generate an assert indicating a possible bad calling convention but the real reason is the structure member alignment. Is there any way to prevent this? If the alignment makes the code incompatible shouldn't this be included in library naming?

  • Acer aspire 5735z wireless not working after upgrade to 11.10

    - by Jon
    I cant get my wifi card to work at all after upgrading to 11.10 Oneiric. I'm not sure where to start to fix this. Ive tried using the additional drivers tool but this shows that no additional drivers are needed. Before my upgrade I had a drivers working for the Rt2860 chipset. Any help on this would be much appreciated.... thanks Jon jon@ubuntu:~$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1d:72:ec:76:d5 inet addr:192.168.1.134 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::21d:72ff:feec:76d5/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:7846 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:7213 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:8046624 (8.0 MB) TX bytes:1329442 (1.3 MB) Interrupt:16 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:91 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:91 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:34497 (34.4 KB) TX bytes:34497 (34.4 KB) Ive included by dmesg output below [ 0.428818] NET: Registered protocol family 2 [ 0.429003] IP route cache hash table entries: 131072 (order: 8, 1048576 bytes) [ 0.430562] TCP established hash table entries: 524288 (order: 11, 8388608 bytes) [ 0.436614] TCP bind hash table entries: 65536 (order: 8, 1048576 bytes) [ 0.437409] TCP: Hash tables configured (established 524288 bind 65536) [ 0.437412] TCP reno registered [ 0.437431] UDP hash table entries: 2048 (order: 4, 65536 bytes) [ 0.437482] UDP-Lite hash table entries: 2048 (order: 4, 65536 bytes) [ 0.437678] NET: Registered protocol family 1 [ 0.437705] pci 0000:00:02.0: Boot video device [ 0.437892] PCI: CLS 64 bytes, default 64 [ 0.437916] Simple Boot Flag at 0x57 set to 0x1 [ 0.438294] audit: initializing netlink socket (disabled) [ 0.438309] type=2000 audit(1319243447.432:1): initialized [ 0.440763] Freeing initrd memory: 13416k freed [ 0.468362] HugeTLB registered 2 MB page size, pre-allocated 0 pages [ 0.488192] VFS: Disk quotas dquot_6.5.2 [ 0.488254] Dquot-cache hash table entries: 512 (order 0, 4096 bytes) [ 0.488888] fuse init (API version 7.16) [ 0.488985] msgmni has been set to 5890 [ 0.489381] Block layer SCSI generic (bsg) driver version 0.4 loaded (major 253) [ 0.489413] io scheduler noop registered [ 0.489415] io scheduler deadline registered [ 0.489460] io scheduler cfq registered (default) [ 0.489583] pcieport 0000:00:1c.0: setting latency timer to 64 [ 0.489633] pcieport 0000:00:1c.0: irq 40 for MSI/MSI-X [ 0.489699] pcieport 0000:00:1c.1: setting latency timer to 64 [ 0.489741] pcieport 0000:00:1c.1: irq 41 for MSI/MSI-X [ 0.489800] pcieport 0000:00:1c.2: setting latency timer to 64 [ 0.489841] pcieport 0000:00:1c.2: irq 42 for MSI/MSI-X [ 0.489904] pcieport 0000:00:1c.3: setting latency timer to 64 [ 0.489944] pcieport 0000:00:1c.3: irq 43 for MSI/MSI-X [ 0.490006] pcieport 0000:00:1c.4: setting latency timer to 64 [ 0.490047] pcieport 0000:00:1c.4: irq 44 for MSI/MSI-X [ 0.490126] pci_hotplug: PCI Hot Plug PCI Core version: 0.5 [ 0.490149] pciehp: PCI Express Hot Plug Controller Driver version: 0.4 [ 0.490196] intel_idle: MWAIT substates: 0x1110 [ 0.490198] intel_idle: does not run on family 6 model 15 [ 0.491240] ACPI: Deprecated procfs I/F for AC is loaded, please retry with CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS_POWER cleared [ 0.493473] ACPI: AC Adapter [ADP1] (on-line) [ 0.493590] input: Lid Switch as /devices/LNXSYSTM:00/device:00/PNP0C0D:00/input/input0 [ 0.496771] ACPI: Lid Switch [LID0] [ 0.496818] input: Sleep Button as /devices/LNXSYSTM:00/device:00/PNP0C0E:00/input/input1 [ 0.496823] ACPI: Sleep Button [SLPB] [ 0.496865] input: Power Button as /devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXPWRBN:00/input/input2 [ 0.496869] ACPI: Power Button [PWRF] [ 0.496900] ACPI: acpi_idle registered with cpuidle [ 0.498719] Monitor-Mwait will be used to enter C-1 state [ 0.498753] Monitor-Mwait will be used to enter C-2 state [ 0.498761] Marking TSC unstable due to TSC halts in idle [ 0.517627] thermal LNXTHERM:00: registered as thermal_zone0 [ 0.517630] ACPI: Thermal Zone [TZS0] (67 C) [ 0.524796] thermal LNXTHERM:01: registered as thermal_zone1 [ 0.524799] ACPI: Thermal Zone [TZS1] (67 C) [ 0.524823] ACPI: Deprecated procfs I/F for battery is loaded, please retry with CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS_POWER cleared [ 0.524852] ERST: Table is not found!   • Mac OS X 10.8 VPN Server: Bypass VPN for LAN traffic (routing LAN traffic to secondary connection)

    - by Dan Robson
I have somewhat of an odd setup for a VPN server with OS X Mountain Lion. It's essentially being used as a bridge to bypass my company's firewall to our extranet connection - certain things our team needs to do require unfettered access to the outside, and changing IT policies to allow traffic through the main firewall is just not an option. The extranet connection is provided through a Wireless-N router (let's call it Wi-Fi X). My Mac Mini server is configured with the connection to this router as the primary connection, thus unfettered access to the internet via the router. Connections to this device on the immediate subnet are possible through the LAN port, but outside the subnet things are less reliable. I was able to configure the VPN server to provide IP addresses to clients in the 192.168.11.150-192.168.11.200 range using both PPTP and L2TP, and I'm able to connect to the extranet through the VPN using the standard Mac OS X VPN client in System Preferences, however unsurprisingly, a local address (let's call it internal.company.com) returns nothing. I tried to bypass the limitation of the VPN Server by setting up Routes in the VPN settings. Our company uses 13.x.x.x for all internal traffic, instead of 10.x.x.x, so the routing table looked something like this: IP Address ---------- Subnet Mask ---------- Configuration 0.0.0.0 248.0.0.0 Private 8.0.0.0 252.0.0.0 Private 12.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 Private 13.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 Public 14.0.0.0 254.0.0.0 Private 16.0.0.0 240.0.0.0 Private 32.0.0.0 224.0.0.0 Private 64.0.0.0 192.0.0.0 Private 128.0.0.0 128.0.0.0 Private I was under the impression that if nothing was entered here, all traffic was routed through the VPN. With something entered, only traffic specifically marked to go through the VPN would go through the VPN, and all other traffic would be up to the client to access using its own default connection. This is why I had to specifically mark every subnet except 13.x.x.x as Private. My suspicion is that since I can't reach the VPN server from outside the local subnet, it's not making a connection to the main DNS server and thus can't be reached on the larger network. I'm thinking that entering hostnames like internal.company.com aren't kicked back to the client to resolve, because the server has no idea that the IP address falls in the public range, since I suspect (probably should ping test it but don't have access to it right now) that it can't reach the DNS server to find out anything about that hostname. It seems to me that all my options for resolving this all boil down to the same type of solution: Figure out how to reach the DNS with the secondary connection on the server. I'm thinking that if I'm able to do [something] to get my server to recognize that it should also check my local gateway (let's say Server IP == 13.100.100.50 and Gateway IP == 13.100.100.1). From there Gateway IP can tell me to go find DNS Server at 13.1.1.1 and give me information about my internal network. I'm very confused about this path -- really not sure if I'm even making sense. I thought about trying to do this client side, but that doesn't make sense either, since that would add time to each and every client side setup. Plus, it just seems more logical to solve it on the server - I could either get rid of my routing table altogether or keep it - I think the only difference would be that internal traffic would also go through the server - probably an unnecessary burden on it. Any help out there? Or am I in over my head? Forward proxy or transparent proxy is also an option for me, although I have no idea how to set either of those up. (I know, Google is my friend.)

  • Customized listfield with image displaying from a url

    - by arunabha
I am displaying a customized list field with text on the right side and image on the left side. The image comes from a URL dynamically.Initially i am placing a blank image on the left of the list field, then call URLBitmapField class's setURL method, which actually does the processing and places the processed image on top of the blank image. The image gets displayed on the list field, but to see that processed image i need to press any key or click on the list field items.I want the processed image to be displayed automatically in the list field after the processing. Can anyone tell me where i am getting wrong? I recently got a Toshiba Satellite L875-S7208 with Windows 7 preinstalled. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS dual boot to the same Windows partition. • Getting a handle on mobile data

Oracle Database Mobile Server (DMS for short) provides a simple and effective way to deal with the management challenge.  DMS supports data synchronization between a central Oracle database server and data on mobile devices.  It also provides authentication, encryption and application and device management.  Finally, DMS is a highly scalable solution that can be used to manage hundreds of thousands of devices.   Here’s a simplified outline of how such a solution might work. Each device runs local sync and mgmt agents that handle bidirectional data flow with an Oracle enterprise backend, run remote commands, and provide status to the management console. For example, mobile admins could monitor multiple networks of mobile devices, upgrade their software remotely, and even destroy the local database on a compromised device. DMS supports either Oracle Berkeley DB or SQLite for device-local storage, and runs on a wide variety of mobile platforms. The schema for the device-local database is pretty simple – it contains the name of the application that’s installed on the device as well as details such as product name, version number, time of last access etc. Each mobile user has an account on the monitoring system.  DMS supports authentication via the Oracle database authentication mechanisms or alternately, via an external authentication server such as Oracle Identity Management. DMS also provides the option of encrypting the data on disk as well as while it is being synchronized. Whenever a device connects with DMS, it sends the list of all local application changes to the server; the server updates the central repository with this information.  Synchronization can be triggered on-demand, whenever there’s a change on the device (e.g. new application installed or an existing application removed) or via a rule-based schedule (e.g. every Saturday). Synchronization is very fast and efficient, since only the changes are propagated.  This includes resume capability; should synchronization be interrupted for any reason, the next synchronization will resume where the previous synchronization was interrupted. If the device should be lost or stolen, DMS has the capability to remove the applications and/or data from the device. This ability to control access to sensitive data and applications is critical in the corporate environment. The central repository also allows the IT manager to track the kinds of applications that mobile users use and recommend patches and upgrades, while still allowing the mobile user full control over what applications s/he downloads and uses on the device.  This is useful since most devices are used for corporate as well as personal information. In certain restricted use scenarios, the IT manager can also control whether a certain application can be installed on a mobile device.  Should an unapproved application be installed, it can easily be removed the next time the device connects with the central server. Oracle Database mobile server provides a simple, effective and highly secure and scalable solution for managing the data and applications for the mobile workforce.

  • Cannot connect to secure wireless with Netgear wna3100 USB

    - by Vince Radice
I have installed Ubuntu 11.10. I used a wired connection to download and install all of the updates. When I tried to use a Netgear WNA3100 wireless USB network adapter, it failed. Much searching and trying things I was finally able to get it working by disabling security on my router. I have verified this by disabling security and I was able to connect. When I enabled security (WPA2 PSK), the connection failed. What is necessary to enable security (WPA2 PSK) and still use the Netgear USB interface? Here is the output from the commands most requested lsusb Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0846:9020 NetGear, Inc. • Maven - Include dependent libs in jar without unpacking dependencies?

    - by Marcus
    We're trying to build a client jar that includes unpacked depenedent jar's. And the manifest should have class-path entries to the dependent jars. The snippet below works but the jars are unpacked - how can we stop the jars from being unpacked? <plugin> <artifactId>maven-assembly-plugin</artifactId> <configuration> <descriptorRefs> <descriptorRef>jar-with-dependencies</descriptorRef> </descriptorRefs> <archive> <manifest> <addClasspath>true</addClasspath> </manifest> </archive> </configuration> <executions> <execution> <id>make-assembly</id> <phase>package</phase> <goals> <goal>single</goal> </goals> </execution> </executions> </plugin>

  • How to know if a device can be disabled or not?

    - by user326498
I use the following code to enable/disable a device installed on my computer: SP_PROPCHANGE_PARAMS params; memset(&params, 0, sizeof(params)); devParams.cbSize = sizeof(devParams); params.ClassInstallHeader.cbSize = sizeof(params.ClassInstallHeader); params.ClassInstallHeader.InstallFunction = DIF_PROPERTYCHANGE; params.Scope = DICS_FLAG_GLOBAL; params.StateChange = DICS_DISABLE ; params.HwProfile = 0; // current profile if(!SetupDiSetClassInstallParams(m_hDev, &m_hDevInfo,&params.ClassInstallHeader,sizeof(SP_PROPCHANGE_PARAMS))) { dwErr = GetLastError(); return FALSE; } if(!SetupDiCallClassInstaller(DIF_PROPERTYCHANGE,m_hDev,&m_hDevInfo)) { dwErr = GetLastError(); return FALSE; } return TRUE; This code works perfectly only for those devices that can also be disabled by using Windows Device Manager, and won't work for some un-disabled devices such as my cpu device: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2160 @ 1.80GHz. So the problem is how to determine if a device can be disabled or not programmatically? Is there any API to realize this goal? Thank you!

  • What is the standard way to bundle OSGi dependent libraries?

    - by Chris
Hi, I have a project that references a number of open source libraries, some new, some not so new. That said, they are all stable and I wish to stick with my chosen versions until I have time to migrate to the newer versions (I tested hsqldb 2.0 yesterday and it contains many api changes). One of the libraries I have wish to embed is Jasper Reports, but as you all surely know, it comes with a mountain of supporting jar files and I have only need a subset of the mountain (known) therefore I am planning to custom bundle all of my dependant libraries. So: Does everyone custom-make their own OSGi bundles for open-source libraries they are using or is there a master source of OSGi versions of common libraries? Also, I was thinking that it would be far simpler for each of my bundles simply to embed their dependent jars within the bundle itself. Is this possible? If I choose to embed the 3rd party foc libraries within a bundle, I assume I will need to produce 2 jar files, one without the embedded libraries (for libraries to be loaded via the classpath via standard classloader), and one osgi version that includes the embedded libraryy, therefore should I choose a bundle name like this <<myprojectname>>-<<subproject>>-osgi-.1.0.0.jar ? If I cannot embed the open source libraries and choose to custom bundle the open source libraries (via bnd), should I choose a unique bundle name to avoid conflict with a possible official bundle? e.g. <<myprojectname>>-<<3rdpartylibname>>-<<3rdpartylibversion>>.jar ? My non-OSGi enabled project currently scans for custom plugins via scanning the META-INF folders in my various plugin jars via Service.providers(...). If I go OSGi, will this mechanism still work?

i use itouch 4G has my device and i use simulator-4.2 i will just draw a rectangle as an example. i use Quartz-2d to draw - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { // Get a graphics context, saving its state CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); CGContextSaveGState(context); // Reset the transformation CGAffineTransform t0 = CGContextGetCTM(context); t0 = CGAffineTransformInvert(t0); CGContextConcatCTM(context,t0); // Draw a green rectangle CGContextBeginPath(context); CGContextSetRGBFillColor(context, 0,1,0,1); CGContextAddRect(context, CGRectMake(0,0,320,480)); CGContextClosePath(context); CGContextDrawPath(context,kCGPathFill); CGContextRestoreGState(context); } i run it in the simulator, the whole screen becomes green, then i run this on my device, only the quarter of the screen becomes green, in order to make the whole screen green on my device, i have to draw a larger rectangle CGContextAddRect(context, CGRectMake(0,0,640,960)); seem like my device has twice resolution than the simulator, how can i fix this?

  • Designing for varying mobile device resolutions, i.e. iPhone 4 & iPhone 3G

    - by Josh
As the design community moves to design applications & interfaces for mobile devices, a new problem has arisen: Varying Screen DPI's. Here's the situation: Touch: * iPhone 3G/S ~ 160 dpi * iPhone 4 ~ 300 dpi * iPad ~ 126 dpi * Android device @ 480p ~ 200 dpi Point / click: * Laptop @ 720p ~ 96 dpi * Desktop @ 720p ~ 72 dpi There is certainly a clear distinction between desktop and mobile so having two separate front-ends to the same app is logical, especially when considering one is "touch"-based and the other is "point/click"-based. The challenge lies in designing static graphical elements that will scale between, say, 160 dpi and 300+ dpi, and get consistent and clean design across zoom levels. Any thoughts on how to approach this? Here are some scenarios, but each has drawbacks as well: * Design a single set of assets (high resolution), then adjust zoom levels based on detected resolution / device o Drawbacks: Performance caused by code layering, varying device support of Zoom * Develop & optimize multiple variations of image and CSS assets, then hide / show each based on device o Drawbacks: Extra work in design & QA. Anyone have thoughts or experience on how to deal with this? We should certainly be looking at methods that use / support HTML5 and CSS3.

  • How to change RDS licensing mode from 'per user/device' to 'Remote control for administrators' on Wi

    - by Prashant Mandhare
We have installed windows 2008 R2 enterprise on a Dell server. This server is placed remotely in data center and only administrator is going to access it for maintenance purpose. No multiple users or client remote access is needed Now during 'remote desktop services' role installation network admin accidentally selected 'per user/device' licensing mode. Because of which now 120 days free try period is ticking. Since only administrator is going to access this server remotely we need to have 'Remote control for administrators' licensing mode (like windows 2003) on it. How we can change licensing mode from 'per user/device' to 'Remote control for administrators' on 2008 server? Also will it be possible to do this change remotely using RDC session itself? or do i need to change it using physical console (if remote access is gonna be disabled during switch)?

  • Remotely turn on a device that is powered off?

    - by njboot
Verbatim from the interview between Brian Williams and Edward Snowden last night: Snowden: Any intelligence service in the world that has significant funding and a real technological research team can own that phone [refering to Williams' iPhone] as soon as it connects to a network; it can be theirs. Williams: Can anyone turn it on remotely if it's off? Snowden: They can absolutely turn it on with the power turned off on the device. I concede Snowden's first point, fine. But the last? Does Snowden's last claim, that a powered off mobile device can be remotely turned, have any merit? It seems highly improbable and seemingly impossible.

  • How to safely remove a device blocked by the System process with a handle on \$Extend\$RmMetadata\$Txf

    - by Heinzi
I have an external HDD which I would like to "safely remove". Unfortunately, my system (Windows 7 x64) complains that "the device is currently in use". Using Process Explorer I discovered which process is holding a handle on the device: Obviously, System is not a process that I can just kill and be done with it. I've done a bit of research and this seems to be a common problem, but no solution has been found so far (except for rebooting the machine, which I'd like to avoid if possible). Is there any solution to this problem that I've missed?

  • Cannot change the device folder where WMP 12 syncs to...

    - by typoknig
I just got a new phone (HD2) and I am trying to sync some music from WMP 12. When I first plugged it in I went to Set up sync in WMP and changed the sync path on the device to N:\Music. It worked fine, but now I changed my mind and I want my music to sync to N:\My Documents\My Music, the only problem is that now when I go to Set up sync I do not get the option to change the device sync path. What is the deal here and how to I get this to work how I want?

  • USB Flash not recognised by Windows and BIOS, but works fine in Linux

    - by bbalegere
I have a Transcend JetFLash 2GB USB Drive. It was working fine and I had been using it occasionally. All of sudden it stopped working in all versions of Windows . The USB Drive is also not recognised by the BIOS.It does not show in the list of bootable devices.(It used show up in the list earlier) However the USB Drive works fine in my Linux Mint 11 OS. Running dmesg gives this [ 941.812192] usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4 [ 941.936178] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 942.164188] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 942.380189] usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5 [ 942.504138] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 942.732179] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 942.948154] usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6 [ 943.364134] usb 1-2: device not accepting address 6, error -71 [ 943.476172] usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7 [ 943.892140] usb 1-2: device not accepting address 7, error -71 [ 943.892191] hub 1-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 2 [ 944.296190] usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3 [ 944.438251] usb 2-2: not running at top speed; connect to a high speed hub [ 944.709928] usbcore: registered new interface driver uas [ 944.729999] Initializing USB Mass Storage driver... • How to configure networking on an appliance such that it can plug and play on any corporate network?

    - by Joshua Lim
I had a chance to configure a Moxa NPort device server appliance on my client's network, it was very easy to do so, done in just 2 minutes. Here's what I did:- The Moxa device server had a preset IP address of 192.168.127.254 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0 - http://www.moxa.com/doc/manual/nport/5400/NPort_5400_Series_Users_Manual_v4.pdf Moxa provides a Windows software which I used to "scan" for the device server. It worked like magic! The software returns a list of device servers found. Each device server is identified by MAC address, and by selecting the device server using the software, I can reset the default IP address and subnet mask of that device server! In comparison, during an earlier project, I spent 2 hours trying to get KVM to work for a Windows 7 embedded appliance I'm trying to install in my client's network - http://superuser.com/questions/380305/how-to-configure-windows-7-professional-appliance-pc-on-my-clients-network-usin Prior to that, I have already tried pre-configuring the IP address and subnet mask to the one which my client provided, yet the appliance still can't connect to the client's network! I've also tried cross cable, didn't work either. After KVM worked, I discovered that the network settings were "lost" after I plug the machine into the client's network. Now my question is what can I do to setup my Windows 7 embedded appliance so that it can connect to any network like that the Moxa device server? I tried experimenting this on my network using a Windows machine configured to an IP address of 192.168.127.254 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0, but it doesn't connect to my network that uses 192.168.0.*. :( EDIT: I would like to point out that the Moxa Windows configuration software seems to be able to connect to any Moxa device connected to the network even if it is on a different subnet, as long as the network adapter shows "connected". This is important because the Moxa device has no VGSM port or interface to configure the IP address.
