  • Why does SQL Server keep throwing exceptions?

    I have my project in .NET that uses a database in SQL Server. I'm using Linq-to-SQL, sometimes when the project throws me an exception (Constraint) in a part of the project this same error keeps showing in other part of the project when I do another thing with the database. Like when I do an insertion and I had before an exception on delete the insertion throws me the delete exception, and it remains this way until I close and open again the project. My major problem is when this happen in my online project, this error in my project causes me problems in the project I'm testing online (I use the same database). I don't know if this exception is on the memory or something but its have been causing me a lot of headaches.

  • Notifying when screen is off

    I'm trying to generate a notification which vibrates the phone and plays a sound when the screen is off (cpu turned off). According to the Log messages, the notification is being sent, but the phone doesn't vibrate or play the sound until I turn the screen on again. I tried holding a 2 second temporary wakelock (PowerManager.PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK), which I thought would be ample time for the notification to be played, but alas, it still doesn't. Any pointers to get the notification to run reliably? I'm testing this on an G1 running Android 1.6. I want to avoid this and update the file just with new lines.   • How to debug PYGTK program

    When python raise an exception in the middle of a pygtk signal handling callback, the exception is catched by the gtk main loop, its value printed and the main loop just continue, ignoring it. If you want to debug, with something like pdb (python -m pdb myscript.py), you want that when the exception occure PDB jump on it and you can start debuging. Because of that it's not possible. How can i debug pygtk program then ?

Suppose that I have a method called doSomething() and I want to use this method in a multithreaded application (each servlet inherits from HttpServlet).I'm wondering if it is possible that a race condition will occur in the following cases: doSomething() is not staic method and it writes values to a database. doSomething() is static method but it does not write values to a database. what I have noticed that many methods in my application may lead to a race condition or dirty read/write. for example , I have a Poll System , and for each voting operation, a certain method will change a single cell value for that poll as the following: [poll_id | poll_data ] [1 | {choice_1 : 10, choice_2 : 20}] will the JSP/Servlets app solve these issues by itself, or I have to solve all that by myself?     I need to use ajax feature to load external div element ( external jsp file) into the current page. That JSP page contains a dynamic content - e.g. content that is based on values received from the current session. I solved this problem , but I'm in doubt because I think that my solution is bad , or maybe there is better solution since I'm not expert.   • VB.NET For Each steps into loop body for an IEnumerable collection! How? Why?

    This is weird. I have a class that inherits from IEnumrable whose Count property is reporting 0 (zero) elements but the For Each loop steps into the loop body and tries to use the variable where it should just be moving on. My code: On Error Resume Next Dim d As Foo For Each d In fooCollection ' use d and throws an exception Next d Weirder still, every time d is accessed i get an exception thrown in the output window: A first chance exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' but i'm not stopping on the exception (not in a try/catch block). Is "On Error Resume Next" causing this weirdness? Weirdness found: Per Rowland's and JohnH's comments i checked the Foo class: The GetEnumerator method inside of Foo didn't actually return anything! It had an empty body. That coupled with the On Error Resume Next before the loop caused the havoc! Wow this was ugly. Thanks for the clues guys!

    I need to display price of item for every date in the month. The chart can be Bar chart or plot chart. Question: Suppose there is no data available for 01/15/2010 then, Is there a way to display (01/15/2010) on x axis but no (bar or plot point) corresponding y axis point ? i.e. there will be a empty space between 2 bars or plot points. Currently i am using 0 , But 0 is a valid value. Let me know if such a display is possible.

  • Delete only reference to child object

    I'm running in to a bit of a problem where any attempt to delete just the reference to a child also deletes the child record. My schema looks like this Person Organisation OrganisationContacts : Person OrgId PersonId Role When removing an Organisation i want to only delete the record in OrgnaisationContacts, but not touch the Person record. My Mapping looks like this Code: public OrganisationMap() { Table("Organsations"); .... HasMany<OrganisationContact>(x => x.Contacts) .Table("OrganisationContacts ") .KeyColumn("OrgId") .Not.Inverse() .Cascade.AllDeleteOrphan(); } public class OrganisationContactMap : SubclassMap<OrganisationContact> { public OrganisationContactMap() { Table("OrganisationContacts"); Map(x => x.Role, "PersonRole"); Map(x => x.IsPrimary); } } At the moment just removing a contact from the IList either doesn't reflect in the database at all, or it issues two delete statements DELETE FROM OrganisationContact & DELETE FROM Person, or tries to set PersonId to null in the OrganisationContacts table. All of which are not desirable. Any help would be great appreciated.

  • Ruby TCPSocket doesn't notice it when server is killed

    I've this ruby code that connects to a TCP server (namely, netcat). It loops 20 times, and sends "ABCD ". If I kill netcat, it takes TWO iterations of the loop for an exception to be triggered. On the first loop after netcat is killed, no exception is triggered, and "send" reports that 5 bytes have been correctly written... Which in the end is not true, since of course the server never received them. Is there a way to work around this issue ? Something like... files[] for file in urllib.listdir(dir): if file.isdir: # handle this as directory else: # handle as file I assume I would need to use the urllib library, but there doesn't seem to be an easy way of doing this, that I've seen at least.

    Hi.. I'm developing a jsp/serlvet application. I have a page with a list of inputs as checkboxes . I want to send values of selected buttons to a servlet using ajax/jquery. In the servlet , I want to extract these values and use them . for example: The user checks some checkboxes , for example, list of messages. He/She presses Delete Link to delete selected messages.   • How do you keep application logic separate from UI when UI components have built-in functionality?

    I know it's important to keep user interface code separated from domain code--the application is easier to understand, maintain, change, and (sometimes) isolate bugs. But here's my mental block ... Delphi comes with components with methods that do what I want, e.g., a RichText Memo component lets me work with rich text. Other components, like TMS's string grid not only do what I want, but I paid extra for the functionality. These features put the R in RAD. It seems illogical to write my own classes to do things somebody else has already done for me. It's reinventing the wheel [ever tried working directly with rich text? :-) ] But if I use the functionality built into components like these, then I will end up with lots of intermingled UI and domain code--I'll have a form with most of my code built into its event handlers. How do you deal with this issue? ... Or, if I want to continue using the code others have already written for me, how would you suggest I deal with the issue?

    We recently migrated to VS 2010. We installed .NET 4.0 on our test machine. When we execute a console application that throws an exception, we no longer see the exception message and stack trace printed to the console but instead see the message An unhandled win32 exception occurred in something.exe [PID]. Just-In-Time debugging this exception failed with the following error: No installed debugger has Just-In-Time debugging enabled. In Visual Studio, Just-In-Time debugging can be enabled from Tools/Options/Debugging/Just-In-Time. We do have the above setting enabled. What do we need to do to return to the behavior we had previously?
