  • Sending an int from Java to C using sockets

    I was just wondering how to send an int from a Java application to a C application using sockets. I have got different C programs communicating with each other and have got the Java application retrieving data from the C application, but I can't work out sending. The C application is acting as database, the Java application then sends a user id (a 4 digit number) to the C application, if it exists it returns that record's details. In Java I have tried using a printWriter and DataOutputStream to send the data, printWriter produces weird symbols and DataOutputStream produces "prof_agent.so". Any help would be appreciated as I don't have a good grasp of sockets at the moment.

  • Smallest Java Runtime I can legally distribute?

    My Java SWT desktop application is distributed with it's own Java runtime and I want to make the download size as small as possible. I'd like to remove all the classes I don't use from rt.jar, but this is forbidden according to JDK runtime licence (see the README.html file in the root JDK folder). Since Java is open source, am I allowed to compile my own 'Java' runtime from source which doesn't have this distribution restriction? If so, has anyone done this already? (Or do you just ignore the JDK licence terms?)

  • Analog of Java Form Layout in Qt

    Once I have programmed GUI with Java and have used Form Layouts. Form layout (if I am not mistaken that is from SWT library) made possible to give right, left, top and bottom adges of any GUI element (widget) with respect to other widgets in the same widget (parent widget) or with respect to the adges of parent widget. So it was possible to control the future of widgets that are inside of another one, when that "another widget" is being resized. In Qt I have find the QFormLayout which is similar to Java one, but seems I can't handle with widgets as flexible in terms of relative positioning, as it was with Java's Form Layout. So are there any other means to give a widget position with respect to the others (without overloading resizeEvent function) as that was in Java? Thanks.

It works, however, the files generated from the command are written to /administrator and I want them to be written to the location where the Java command resides ie. /administrator/com_mycomponent/java/MyJavaApp.jar //run the command $javaCommand = "$javaCommand -jar $keyGeneratorFile $appName"; $response = exec($javaCommand); if(empty($response)) { JError::raiseError(500, "Key Generation failed for command: $javaCommand"); } What can I do? Is there some sort of option I can use with the java command?

    Hi, when running a Java application as service with the user 'LocalService', the temp directory ("java.io.tmpdir") points to 'c:/windows/temp' (for example). Running a Java application normally gives 'c:/documents and settings/user/local settings/temp' instead.     hello java guys, im thinking of a simple java app (command line) that connects to the internet to download xml file, the problem is that my ubuntu is using a proxy to connect to internet with username and password (tru http_proxy ="http://:@:" ). So My question is, could it be possible to write a java app to use http_proxy variable? instead of programmatically setting http proxy and host in every app i will write.

    Hi there! I was looking for some opinions on the best remote method invocation practices when developing iPhone applications that communicate with Java (java EE) servers. Many iphone applications these days typically talk to a server back end. I typically prefer to write my servers in java using some Spring libraries. So far I have not found or stuck to a definitive practice for iphone-java server communication. What are some technical solutions and libraries that you have used to implement this kind of client-server communication? One thing I always keep in mind is that I want the communication protocols to be simple so that multiple platforms can be added for example, in future adding Android and possibly Blackberry clients, that can use the same protocol to talk to the server.

  • Java looping through array - Optimization

    I've got some Java code that runs quite the expected way, but it's taking some amount of time -some seconds- even if the job is just looping through an array. The input file is a Fasta file as shown in the image below. The file I'm using is 2.9Mo, and there are some other Fasta file that can take up to 20Mo. And in the code im trying to loop through it by bunches of threes, e.g: AGC TTT TCA ... etc The code has no functional sens for now but what I want is to append each Amino Acid to it's equivalent bunch of Bases. Example : AGC - Ser / CUG Leu / ... etc So what's wrong with the code ? and Is there any way to do it better ? Any optimization ?   • Android SDK and Java

    Android SDK Manager complains "WARNING: Java not found in your path". Instead of using the information from Windows registry, the software tries to search Java in the default installation folders, and fails (I don't install software in program files because I don't like space characters in my paths). Of course I know how to modify the %PATH% environment variable. The question is — which Java does it need? After installing the latest JDK, I’ve got 4 distinct versions of java.exe file, in the following 4 folders: system32, jre6\bin, jdk1.6.0_26\bin, and jdk1.6.0_26\jre\bin. Size ranges from 145184 to 171808. All of them print version “1.6.0_26” when launched with the “-version” argument. The one in system32 has .exe version “6.0.250.6”, the rest of them is “6.0.260.3”. All 4 files are different (I’ve calculated the MD5 checksums). Q1. Which folder should I add to %PATH% to make the Android SDK happy? Q2. Why does Oracle build that many variants of java.exe of the same version for the same platform? Thanks in advance! P.S. I'm using Windows 7 SP1 x64 home premium, and downloaded the 64-bit version of JDK, jdk-6u26-windows-x64.exe.
