  • jQuery.keypad Performance Issues

    I am working on a Kiosk Touch Screen application and using the JQuery.keypad plugin and noticing some major performance issues. If you click a number of buttons in rapid succession the CPU gets pegged, the button clicks don't keep up with the clicking and some button presses even get lost. On my dev machine this isn't as noticeable, but on the Kiosk itself with 1 gig of ram it's painful. Trying the demo keypad at http://keith-wood.name/keypad.html#inline the one with multiple targets (which is the case with mine) has the exact same issues. Does anyone have any suggestions on how we might be able to improve this? The Kiosk runs in Firefox only so something specific to that would work. I'm using v1.2.1 of jquery.keypad and just upgraded to v1.4.2 of jquery.

I have two choices.   • How to match multiple substrings in jQuery combobox autocomplete

    I found more than a couple examples of this with a plain jquery autocomplete but not in a way that will work with the autocomplete included in the combobox code from the demo because the structure of the code is structured so differently. I want to match every item that has all of the search tokens anywhere in any word. I don't need to match the start of any word, any part of it is fine. I don't care if the search strings are highlighted in the autocomplete list if that makes things too complicated. Desired search/result combos: (please excuse the spacing) "fi th" "fi rst second th ird" "rs on" "fi rs t sec on d third" "ec rd" "first s ec ond thi rd" but not limited to any max/min length or number of tokens. I am able to set the value of another field with ui.item.value within the select label but that doesn't put the value in the search box or close the dropdown menu.   • Font advance calculation problem on Blackberry OS 5.0

    I am currently working on my own implementation of a tab bar for a BlackBerry app, where each tab bar has a title that is right aligned (i.e. the last character in each should be the same distance from the right hand side of the screen). To work out where to draw the text I am using the following calculation: screen width - advance of title - indent. The font I am using is 'BBAlpha Sans' (height 28). Using BlackBerry OS 4.6 everything seems to be calculated properly and the text is aligned when I move between tabs, however I am finding that when I use OS 5.0 it doesn't calculate the advance properly and as a result the alignment is off by maybe 5 pixels or so. With the default font (also BBAlpha Sans, but height 24 - for OS 5.0 at least) it works fine in both versions.. but I don't necessarily always want to use the default font/size, so any ideas what could be going wrong? I'd like to reuse this code in a JPA project, having no hibernate.cfg.xml file (and no .properties file), but a persistence.xml file (autodetected in the META-INF directory as specified by the JPA spec). I tried this too simple adaptation, Configuration cfg = new AnnotationConfiguration(); cfg.configure(); but it failed with that exception. Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.HibernateException: /hibernate.cfg.xml not found Has anybody done that? Thanks.

  • ASP.NET inline code in a server control

    Ok, we had a problem come up today at work. It is a strange one that I never would have even thought to try. <form id="form1" runat="server" method="post" action="Default.aspx?id=<%= ID %>" > Ok, it is very ugly and I wouldn't have ever tried it myself. It came up in some code that was written years ago but had been working up until this weekend after a bunch of updates were installed on a client's web server where the code is hosted. The actual result of this is the following html: <form name="form1" method="post" action="Default.aspx?id=&lt;%= ID %>" id="form1"> The url ends up like this: http://localhost:6735/Default.aspx?id=<%= ID %> Which as you can see, demonstrates that the "<" symbol is being encoded before ASP.NET actually processes the page. It seems strange to me as I thought that even though it is not pretty by any means, it should work. I'm confused. To make matters worse, the client insists that it is a bug in IE since it appears to work in Firefox. In fact, it is broken in Firefox as well, except for some reason Firefox treats it as a 0. Any ideas on why this happens and how to fix it easily? Everything I try to render within the server control ends up getting escaped. Edit Ok, I found a "fix" <form id="form1" runat="server" method="post" action='<%# String.Format("Default.aspx?id={0}", 5) %>' > But that requires me to call DataBind which is adding more of a hack to the original hack. Guess if nobody thinks of anything else I'll have to go with that.

  • Calculating moving average/stdev in SAS?

    Hye guys, I included a screenshot to help clarify my problem: http://i40.tinypic.com/mcrnmv.jpg. I'm trying to calculate some kind of moving average and moving standard deviation. The thing is I want to calculate the coefficients of variation (stdev/avg) for the actual value. Normally this is done by calculating the stdev and avg for the past 5 years. However sometimes there will be observations in my database for which I do not have the information of the past 5 years (maybe only 3, 2 etc). That's why i want a code that will calculate the avg and stdev even if there is no information for the whole 5 years. Also, as you see in the observations, sometimes I have information over more than 5 years, when this is the case I need some kind of moving average which allows me to calculate the avg and stdev for the past 5 year. So if a company has information for 7 years I need some kind of code that will calculate the avg and stdev for, lets say, 1997 (by 1991-1996), 1998 (by 1992-1997) and 1999 (1993-1998). As i'm not very familiar with sas commands it should look (very very roughly) like: set var if year = i then stdev=stdev(year(i-6) untill year(i-1)) and average = avg(year(i-6) untill year(i-1)) Or something like this, I really have no clue, I'm gonna try and figure it out but it's worth posting it if I won't find it myself.   • Thoughts on try-catch blocks

    What are your thoughts on code that looks like this: public void doSomething() { try { // actual code goes here } catch (Exception ex) { throw; } } The problem I see is the actual error is not handled, just throwing the exception in a different place. I find it more difficult to debug because i don't get a line number where the actual problem is. So my question is why would this be good? ---- EDIT ---- From the answers it looks like most people are saying it's pointless to do this with no custom or specific exceptions being caught. That's what i wanted comments on, when no specific exception is being caught. I can see the point of actually doing something with a caught exception, just not the way this code is.

  • How do I get hyphens in my attribute names in Flex?

    Flex has an issue with hyphens in xml. I need to generate an xml object with hyphens in the attribute for a Google Checkout implementation. I can get away with: var xml:XML = <item-description/>; and var xml:XML = <item-description the-name="foo"/>; but what I need to do is set the value of an attribute like this: var timestamp:String = methodToGetMyTimestampString(); var xml:XML = <item-desc/>; xml@start-date = timestamp; but I can't do that. Since flex doesn't like the hyphens, I don't know how to get or set attributes with hyphens in the name.

  • jQuery and jQuery UI (Dual Licensing)

    OK I have read many posts regarding Dual Licensing using MIT and GPL licenses. But Im curious still, as the wording seems to be inclusive. Many of the Dual Licenses state that the software is licensed using "MIT AND GPL". The "AND" is what confuses me. It seems to me that the word "AND" in the terms, means you will be licensing the product using both licenses. Most of the posts, here on stackoverflow, say you can license the software using one "OR" the other. JQuery specifically states "OR", whereas JQuery UI specifically States "AND". Another Instance of the "AND" would be JQGrid. Im not a lawyer but, it seems to me that a legal interpretation of this would state that use of the software would mean that your using the software under both licenses. Has anyone who has contacted a lawyer gotten clarification or a definitive answer as to what is true? Can you use Dual licensed software products that state "AND" in the terms of agreement under either license?

  • WPF -- Where do you draw the line between code and XAML?

    I'm a long-time C#/.NET programmer but totally new to WPF and the System.Windows.Controls namespace and XAML. The more I learn about it the more I realize that you can do pretty much all of your GUI initialization and event handling glue in either XAML or in code (say C# code or VB.Net code). My question is to those who have been working on WPF for longer and ideally those who have shipped apps with it -- where did you find was the best place to 'draw the line' between XAML and code? Did you use XAML wherever you could? Only where interfacing with non-coding UI designers? Any tips in this area would be extremely helpful to myself and other coders who are just getting into WPF programming and are kind of paralyzed by all the choices we can make!
