  Possible Duplicate: Are certifications worth it? I am at the point in my career where people start to veer off into either management-type roles or they focus on solidifying their technical skills to stay in the development game for the long-haul. Here's my story: I've got a degree in economics, an MA in Political Science and an MBA in Finance and Management. In addition, I've done coursework in advanced math and software development (although no degree in math or software). All-in-all, I've got 13 years of post-secondary education under my belt. I, however, currently work as a software developer using C# for desktop, Silverlight, Flex and javascript for web, and objective c for mobile. I've been in software development for the past 3.3 years, and it seems like it comes pretty easy to me. I work in a field called "geospatial information systems," which just involves customization and manipulation of geospatial data. Right now I am looking at one of several certifications. Given this background, which of these certifications has the highest ceiling? CFA PMP various development/technological certifications from Microsoft, etc. Other? My academic and work experience are all heavy on the analytical/development side, esp. so given the MBA and the B.S. in Econ. The political science degree was really a lot of stats. So it seems that I would be good pursuing more of the CFA/analytical role. This is a difficult path, however, because I have no work experience in the financial sector, and the developers in finance are all "quants," which again, I am OK with, but I haven't done much statistical modeling in the past 3.3 years. The PMP would require knowledge of best practices as it pertains explicitly to software development. I also don't enjoy a lot of business travel, a common theme for most PMP jobs I've seen. If certifications is the route, which would you recommend? Anything else? I've thought about going back to try to knock out a B.S. in C.S., but I wasn't sure how long that would take, or what would be involved. Thoughts or recommendations? Thanks in advance! • procdump on w3wp.exe: Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed

  I'm having a problem with an IIS application that occasionally spikes up in CPU usage, and am trying to use procdump to get a memory dump for examination. I'm running "procdump.exe -64 -mA 9999" where 9999 is the pid of the process. But every time I do it, I get an error: Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed. Doing this also recycles the apppool, relieving the CPU spike, so I can't keep trying until I get it right. Does anyone know what is going wrong? EDIT WITH MORE INFO: So far I've failed to generate a debug dump no matter what tool I try. All of them seem to generate the same sort of error. This is 2008 R2 Datacenter running IIS7 with a 64-bit asp.net web site. My best guess is that something is getting blocked, causing some requests to remain open in IIS and gradually using up resources. If I monitor the worker process using the IIS Manager and view all requests, throughout the day I'll start to see some requests that "stick" and run forever. Some of these are for static files. Some are for aspx pages. I cannot see any "common" reason for them. Every once in a while the app pool starts taking up 100% CPU and the only remedy is to kill it.

• Computer does not switch on after power outage

  VOLTAGE DROP OFF FOR PC does not restart The other day my pc was turned off due to power outage. Since that time the computer would not turn on again, no sign of life, it seems dead. I did several tests, changed the power outlet and disconnect the wires ... also I have reseated the cards ... but the result is that nothing changes. What can I do? Could there may be damage to the hardware due to the power outage? Note: the voltage drop is not due to a lightning storm and so is not due to damaged components (burnt card etc ...) • Installing MySQL 5.1 on OS X 10.7 Lion

  I am trying to install MySQL 5.1. I am on Lion, and when I remove all files associated with MySQL on my machine it still tells me that I have a newer version installed when I try to install it from the DMG file. Has anyone successfully installed MySQL 5.1 on Lion? • PHP output buffer settings ignored by server

  I have been trying to flush the output of certain scripts to the browser on demand, but they do not work on our production server. For instance, I tried running the "Phoca Changing Collation tool" (find it on Google) and I don't see any output until the script finishes executing. I've tried immediately flushing the buffer on other scripts that work fine on any server but this one using the following code: echo "something"; ob_flush(); flush(); Setting "ob_implicit_flush(1);" doesn't help either. The server is Apache 2.2.21 with PHP 5.2.17 running on Linux. You can see our php.ini file here if that will help: http://www.smallfiles.org/download/1123/php.ini.html This isn't the only problem we are having with the server ignoring in-script directives. The server also ignores timeout coding such as: ini_set('max_execution_time', 900*60); AND set_time_limit(86400); Script always times out at the php.ini default. Doesn't seem to matter if script is executed in IE or Firefox. Tried "ini_set('zlib.output_compression_level', 'Off');" and checked that it is "Off" in the php.ini file. The code "apache_setenv('no-gzip', 1);" causes a fatal error so tried uploading a .htaccess file with the "mod_gzip_on No" directive. Neither helps. Tried running Apache as fcgi and suphp, but same results. Server is NOT in safe mode. Pullin ma hair out!

• How to transfer files via infrared on Linux?

  I know this is a way too old technology but I've got some files inside a very old cellphone that I need to transfer to a very old computer. So far my Infrared USB device works well, it's detected by the machine (lsusb output): Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0df7:0620 Mobile Action Technology, Inc. MA-620 Infrared Adapter I've tried to send the file over MMS and even email (it lacks bluetooth, not to mention USB). But this cellphones's firmware doesn't let me attach the files. The file was originally transfered via IrDA, and it only has an internal memory (a whole 2 million bytes! whoa!). I found a package called irda-utils, but it seems that there are only two executables: irdaping and irdadump. I think the dump utility might do the job (which as far as I can see it's kind of a version of tcpdump but for IrDA), but I don't even know how to process the received frames. Could this question may be what I'm looking for? EDIT While reading through the Linux Infrared HOWTO I found about the OpenObex project, which may be what I'm looking for...

• cygwin sshd fails to allocate pty for some users

  I have (finally) got sshd working under cygwin on Win7 - well, sort of. The sshd runs as user 'cyg_server'. I'm able to successfully ssh to my computer using that same user name. However, if I attempt to ssh using my normal (Windows) user name, it fails trying to allocate a pty for my login session.   The mini-ITX computer will be a general use computer. Not a dedicated HTPC or Home server. In general use mini-ITX cases, what PSU form factor is usually used? I understand that some case manufacturers provide custom built PSU to fit their case but I prefer to get the ones that use a PSU that follows standard form factors in case a replacement is needed. For example, what PSU fits into general purpose cases by Lian Li? Am I to assume that smaller PSU form factors also affect the possible maximum output?

• Can I build or test a computer without a case?

  I am in the process of building a really nice new PC right now. It's going to have a nice Lian Li case with the internals powder coated black and all the wires will be sleeved. So my problem is I am getting parts in a couple days but my case will not be completed for about a month because it is on back order plus time to powder coat it. I am purchasing many of m y parts from newegg.com and they claim you must return any dead parts within 30 days or the invoice for there warranty to replace bad parts. So is it possible for me to set up the PC without a case just to test that the main parts are working correctly within the timeframe I am allowed? If this is possible, how do I deal with turning the system on/off without a powere button? Or is therer one on a motherboard? Thanks for any tips/advice

  I'm upgrading a (working) query based group (Exchange 2003) to a new and 'improved' dynamic distribution group (2010). For better or worse, our company decided to store everyone's employee ID in the pager field, so it's easy to manipulate via ADUC. That employee number has significance, as all employees are in a certain range, and all contractors are in a very different range. Basically, the new opath syntax appears to be using string compare on my pager field, even though it's a number. Let's say my employee ID is 3004, well, it's "less than" 4 from a string check POV. Set-DynamicDistributionGroup -Identity "my-funky-new-group" -RecipientFilter "(pager -lt 4) -and (pager -like '*') -and (RecipientType -eq 'UserMailbox')" Shows up in EMC with this: ((((((Pager -lt '4') -and (Pager -ne $null))) -and (RecipientType -eq 'UserMailbox'))) -and (-not(Name -like 'SystemMailbox{*')) -and (-not(Name -like 'CAS_{*')) -and (-not(RecipientTypeDetailsValue -eq 'MailboxPlan')) -and (-not(RecipientTypeDetailsValue -eq 'DiscoveryMailbox')) -and (-not(RecipientTypeDetailsValue -eq 'ArbitrationMailbox'))) This group should have max of 3 members right? Nope - I get a ton because of the string compare. I show up, and I'm in the 3000 range. Question: Anyone know a clever way to force this to be an integer check? The read-only LDAP filter on this group looks good, but of course it can't be edited. The LDAP representation (look ma, no quotes on the 4!) - Also interesting it sort of 'fills the' bed with the (pager=4) thing... (&(pager<=4)(!(pager=4))(pager=*)(objectClass=user)(objectCategory=person)(mailNickname=*)(msExchHomeServerName=*)(!(name=SystemMailbox{*))(!(name=CAS_{*))!(msExchRecipientTypeDetails=16777216))(!(msExchRecipientTypeDetails=536870912))(!(msExchRecipientTypeDetails=8388608))) If there is no solution, I suppose my recourse is either finding an unused field that actually will be treated as an integer, or most likely building this list with powershell every morning with my own automation - lame. I know of a few ways to fix this outside of the opath filter (designate "full-time" in another field, etc.), but would rather exchange do the lifting since this is the environment at the moment.   I'm tired of the old fart at work who keeps coming upto my desk and telling me all about his "years of experience in working with Unix and Lye-nix". I couldn't vent it out at him because that would be wrong, so I'm going to vent it out here - because obviously (that's the right thing to do...). Anyway, for all the people that practice in this disgusting behaviour - the pronunciation is.... (Hmmm - anyone know phonetics?) - "Li-nix" Note: Despite hating him for this - he is otherwise a very nice (but sometimes rather annoying) person. Now... to formally make this a "question" - Could someone write the phonetics for pronouncing "Linux", and also the notorious "Lye-nix", so I can make a note of it for future ventings? I think this is right... L?n?x, NOT L?n?x. ...or perhaps... L?n?x, NOT L?n?x* Can someone confirm the correct phonetics? (Listen to Linus on the matter).

• Apache displays error page half way through PHP page execution

  I've just installed Zend Server Community Edition on a Windows Server 2003 box, however there's a bit of a problem with the display of a lot of our PHP pages. The code has previously running under the same version of PHP (5.3) on IIS without any issues. By the looks of things, Apache (installed as part of Zend Server) is erroring out during the rendering of the page when it comes across something it doesn't like in the PHP. Going through the code, I've been able to get past some of the problems by removing the error suppression operator (@) from function calls and by changing the format of some includes. However, I can't do this for the whole site! Weirdly, the error code is reported as "200 OK". • SignalR cannot read property client of undefined

  I'm trying to add SignalR to my project (ASPNET MVC 4). But I can't make it work. In the below image you can see the error I'm receiving. I've read a lot of stackoverflow posts but none of them is resolving my issue. Should I make any change because the scripts are in /Script/lib folder? NOTE I'm following the instruction found here on how to set up Windsor Castle to make it work with SignalR, and again, seems that the proxy cannot be created and I'm getting the same error: Cannot read property client of undefined meaning that the proxy to the hub was not created This is how I have it in the server public class IncidentServerHub : Hub and like this in the client var clientServerHub = $.connection.incidentServerHub; Again, I can see the dynamically created file here: /GdpSoftware.Server.Web/signalr/hubs So, Why the proxy is not created?   Hi all, i think i read every single web page relating to this problem but i still cannot find a solution to it, so here i am. I have an HTML web page wich is not under my control and i need to parse it from my iPhone application. It calls foundCharacters: for "Bye Bye" and then it calls resolveExternalEntityName:systemID:: with an entityName of "egrave". In this method i'm just returning the character "è" trasformed in an NSData, the foundCharacters is called again adding the string "è" to the previous one "Bye Bye " and then the parser raise the NSXMLParserUndeclaredEntityError error. • mootools slideshow not working with JQuery. Need help !

  I am working on a site http://tapasya.co.in where i just impemented mootools slideshow. But I noticed that menubar that i was using stopped working, it was supposed to drop horizontaly but it is not being displayed now. I have used jquery for it. Please see the source of the web page. What can be the problem ? Mootools conflicting with javascript or some other problem. • Jquery fadeOut looking different in FF than in Chrome/Safari

  Hey all, i have a page that when a user desides to delete a company, it fades out using the jquery fadeOut() command. This works great and does as it should in FireFox but for some reason it doesn't do the same in Chrome/Safari browsers. The problem is that i have a png image overlay on top of the company logo image that also fades out with the company logo. But if there are more than one company logo on the page, it moves the others in the place where the one got deleted. Like i said, it works fine (and as it should) in Firefox and even IE (SHOCK!) but not in Chrome or Safari.
