• Database unit testing is now available for SSDT

  Good news was announced yesterday for those that are using SSDT and want to write unit tests, unit testing functionality is now available. The announcement was made on the SSDT team blog in post Available Today: SSDT—December 2012. Here are a few thoughts about this news. Firstly, there seems to be a general impression that database unit testing was not previously available for SSDT – that’s not entirely true. Database unit testing was most recently delivered in Visual Studio 2010 and any database unit tests written therein work perfectly well against SQL Server databases created using SSDT (why wouldn’t they – its just a database after all). In other words, if you’re running SSDT inside Visual Studio 2010 then you could carry on freely writing database unit tests; some of the tight integration between the two (e.g. right-click on an object in SQL Server Object Explorer and choose to create a unit test) was not there – but I’ve never found that to be a problem. I am currently working on a project that uses SSDT for database development and have been happily running VS2010 database unit tests for a few months now. All that being said, delivery of database unit testing for SSDT is now with us and that is good news, not least because we now have the ability to create unit tests in VS2012. We also get tight integration with SSDT itself, the like of which I mentioned above. Having now had a look at the new features I was delighted to find that one of my big complaints about database unit testing has been solved. As I reported here on Connect a refactor operation would cause unit test code to get completely mangled. Thankfully that seems to have been solved with this latest release. One disappointment about this new release is that the process for running tests as part of a CI build has not changed from the horrendously complicated process required previously.   May 2010 Welcome to Issue 56 of DNN Creative Magazine In this issue we show you how to use the powerful new Super Stylesheets skinning feature in DotNetNuke 5. Super Stylesheets are ideal for both beginner and experienced skin designers, they provide skin layouts using CSS. • Extracting main article from webpage/feed. Is it legal/ethical?

  There are some applications like Readability and Pocket, which are letting users to read the main content of web pages, in a clean interface or such. But the articles should be bookmarked from another application, or the web browser. However, I'm creating a news reader app (Zite and Flipboard are popular news reader apps), and I want to create a clean experience for users, so I want to show full content of articles inside my application. Some websites have fulltext feeds, and I'm using it. But about some other websites, which don't have full text feeds: I want to know, is it legal/ethical to use for example Readability API (Or maybe writing my own code for this) to show full text of articles inside my application?

• Moving large website to new CMS - URL changes

  Hi, I was wondering if you have any tipps on the following situation. I'm going to move a large website to a new Content Management System, here are some details on the site: online news magazine with roughly 3,000 articles domain age: 10 years online in the current form since May 2010 indexed pages: ~10.000 percent of search engine traffic: under 10% Unfortunately a custom-tailored CMS was used for the site. The performance, reliability and SEO capabilites have been really bad, so we are moving to a new and proven open source CMS. All the articles will be kept as they are, but the URL structure as well as the structure of the HTML templates will be changed. What I wanted to do now is to actually create 301 redirects for all articles from the old to the new schema, i.e: Old: www.example.com/en/html/news/detail/title-of-the-article/ New: www.example.com/category/title-of-article.html Is this a proven way to do something like this? If not, can you recommend a way that has worked for you? Thanks :)

• How to move a website and domain name without experiencing downtime for emails or site?

  Okay, I have a pretty complex problem, so I'll get right to it. I'm a designer who built a new website for my client. Their old site is hosted at GoDaddy, as well as their email. Problem is, the guy who built the original site decided to put the original domain name and hosting under HIS personal GoDaddy account. Well, that turned out to be a bad move for several reasons. Here's how it's all tied together. The original domain name, www.domainoriginal.com, was actually purchased at Network Solutions. The original web designer pointed the nameservers from Network Solutions to his GoDaddy account, where the email and hosting is setup. The new domain name, www.domainnew.com, was purchased under a new and separate GoDaddy account belonging to the company, and the new website was built under a 3rd party platform (Big Commerce). So, the www.domainnew.com is already pointed to the new website using A records at new GoDaddy account. All is fine there. However, they still need www.domainoriginal.com to point to the NEW website as well. (The old one can simply be deleted, it is NOT important). AND, they want to keep their old email addresses intact and working as well, but under the NEW GoDaddy account. Obviously, I have no DNS control at Network Solutions, and I have no idea what kind of control I have at GoDaddy under the old account because the web designer will not let me see inside his account. But, he and GoDaddy both tell me nothing can be done other than to repoint the nameservers to Network Solutions, and then repoint the A record to my new website, www.domainnew.com, and point the MX Records to GoDaddy. I'm told the downtime would be 24-48 hours if I do this. Ideally, we'd like to do a domain name transfer and get www.domainoriginal.com in the new GoDaddy account created by the company. But, I'm told this could take up to 7 days. Does this mean the site and email will be down for 7 days? And any emails sent during this time, would they be lost forever? If I do this, how long could I expect the site and email to go down? And, will the emails be permanently lost? I've gotten different answers from everybody at GoDaddy so I kind of don't trust them anymore... Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks, Tyson

Let's say, I want to write a simple application in Java that connects to a news website (e.g. CNN), parses the html document and prints on screen the news. Another example : my application retrieves and prints on screen soccer results from Eurosports. What do I need to do that? External libraries? • shutdown bar is not appearing anywhere

  i am using ubuntu 11.10 in GNOME interface and there is no shutdown bar/option appearing on desktop . I have also used some solutions just like: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/gnome3 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-extensions-alternative-status-menu but this is showing some error message in the terminal while typing last command. Please provided me with best solutions

• Strange behavior of flash in Google Chrome

  I have the last version of Chrome 5.0.xx. and my Ubuntu is also of the last version 10.04. What I usually do is to open two instances of Chrome and divide the screen into two parts. In one part my son watches cartoons in Youtube and in the other part I just read some news. So, sometimes, when I close some pages of the news I have being read the video which was being played in youtube crashes and immediately stops. I need to refresh youtube page and see the video again. • How should I set up UDK with Git and CruiseControl?

  For a new project in UDK, I'd like to set up a Git repository for version control and a CruiseControl.NET-based continuous integration solution. The good news is that he first part seems easy enough and CruiseControl.NET can work off Git repositories. The bad news is that according to my searches, nobody has ever tried to do this. Ideally, I'm looking for a step-by-step guide on how to set up such a development environment assuming more than one development computer, one central repository for the "master" branch, and one machine for building and packaging the binaries via CruiseControl.NET. • core.* files eating up server space (~50MB)

  I'm renting server space from someone and, upon logging in my control panel after quite sometime, noticed an abnormal spike (~50MB) in the disk usage. Upon investigating, I found a lot of core.* files scattered around my public_html directory. Each one is more than 5MB in size but no more than 6MB. The * part is all numbers (in programming regex, that should be core\.\d+). I downloaded one and checked the contents. There was a lot of balderdash characters (NUL mostly, but also a scattering of ETB, ETX, STX) but there's this block of readable text which says: This text is part of the internal format of your mail folder, and is not a real message. It is created automatically by the mail system software. If deleted, important folder data will be lost, and it will be re-created with the data reset to initial values. Pretty self-explanatory. A few blocks above the text are some more readable messages that look like logs but is sandwiched in between non printable characters. I've extracted some below. Scan not valid for mh mailboxes Bogus character 0x%x in news state Can't rewrite news state %.80s Error closing backup news state %.80s No state for newsgroup %.80s found Now, a few concerns: Am I under attack? The messages seem to be about my webmail but I don't use my personal webmail that much---only for a vanity email address and an inbox for an outdated comments system. However, lately, I seem to notice a spike in the spam for my vanity mail. (Note: the comments system is covered by a captcha but every now and then some get through. My vanity email has a spam filter but it isn't as good as I'd like). Next, if this is a feature, can I turn it off? Is it advisable to? I've only 150MB so you see why I'm fretting over a 50MB spike. Some final details: my only server-side scripts are in PHP. The directory which accumulated the most number of these core files is the one containing the Wordpress-managed subdomain of my site. I manage my server through CPanel. Lastly, I decided to delete this files and after some checking nothing seems amiss in my websites nor in my mail. They are indeed the ones responsible for the ~50MB spike as my disk space usage is back to expected.

  can anyone please help? I am trying to install samsung printer SCX 5737FW on Ubuntu 11.10, but when I plug in the usb cable it tries to look for the driver, but can't find it. Indeed the webpage http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/print-solutions/print-solutions/mono-multi-function-products/SCX-5737FW/SEE-spec tells me that the printer is supported up to Ubuntu 10. This true because it installs perfectly on my other machine with ubuntu 9. Can anyone help please? Thanks
