• Determine UIInterfaceOrientation on iPad

  I don't need to specify the orientation in this case, I just need to detect it, but I'm having trouble. I have conditional code that should only work in portrait, and if the device is in landscape I need to do something else. Since the deviceOrientation is not necessarily the same as the interfaceOrientation, I can't come up with a way to test for portrait mode. Most tutorials I find on Google are ways to force landscape or do some sort of rotation. The only thing I want to do is just determine what the orientation is. Here is my code, which is not working: -(void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; //currentOrientation is declared as UIInterfaceOrientation currentOrientation currentOrientation = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] statusBarOrientation]; NSLog(@"%@",currentOrientation); // == NULL } I need to determine the value of the interfaceOrientation and program conditionally. • customizing webmail cpanel login area with php

  I have webmail setup similar to what hostgator has (I host with them and looks like they use their own system). I'm trying to customize the login page of webmail, but am a little stuck. When you go to webmail page/port below, you get a popup login form, not a web login form. If you hit cancel, it finally loads the web login form. http://www.hostgator.com/webmail/ Note that I'm using hostgator's webmail link just as an example because they use the same script. Is there a way through php (or any other way) to prevent the popup login form and go straight to the web login form? The next step would be to theme it, etc. etc. Any ideas or tutorials on how this script works?

• Random software/shutdown problems Mac mini

  Hello I have a Mac mini using OS X 10.5.8. Recently I've been having problems that are becoming increasingly severe. Particular symptoms: Firefox "quits" but the dot on the dock remains. If I try shutting down at this point I can't and have to use the power button. I can't start Firefox either. Significantly higher than normal crash rate for CS4 Illustrator Photoshop and Dreamweaver. If Firefox remains open when sleeping the Mac, on waking up firefox is completely unresponsive and must be restarted. Can cause problem 1. Today I lost all my FTP settings for Dreamweaver CS4 Bluetooth switches on when booting despite being switched off. Network password retention is somewhat erractic. Tried running Apple Hardware Test as described in the manual. Cannot access install disk by pressing D at startup. My pen tablet (Bamboo) lost my preferences. Tried unstalling software and now cannot re-install. I've never had problems of this level outside warranty before so I don't know much about debugging Macs. Solutions attempted: Disable bluetooth (see problem 5) Disable time machine Run appple harware test (see problem 7) Tried using activity monitor but don't know which processes are normal Tried uninstalling more recent software. I don't have any idea what to do. It seems like a hard disk failure but I don't have the know how to continue.

• Google Maps JS API v3 - Simple Multiple Marker Example

  Fairly new to the Google Maps Api. I've got an array of data that I want to cycle through and plot on a map. Seems fairly simple, but all the multi-marker tutorials I have found are quite complex. Lets use the data array from google's site for an example: var locations = [ ['Bondi Beach', -33.890542, 151.274856, 4], ['Coogee Beach', -33.923036, 151.259052, 5], ['Cronulla Beach', -34.028249, 151.157507, 3], ['Manly Beach', -33.80010128657071, 151.28747820854187, 2], ['Maroubra Beach', -33.950198, 151.259302, 1] ]; I simply want to plot all of these points and have an infoWindow pop up when clicked to display the name. Any help is greatly appreciated!

• Delphi: Get MAC of Router

  Hello, I am using Delphi and I want to determinate the physical MAC address of a network device in my network, in this case the Router itself.   I'm using iTextSharp to merge a number of pdf files together into a single file. I'm using method described in iTextSharp official tutorials, specifically here, which merges files page by page via PdfWriter and PdfImportedPage. Turns out some of the files I need to merge are filled out PDF Forms and using this method of merging form data is lost. I've see several examples of using PdfStamper to fill out forms and flatten them. What I can't find, is a way to flatten already filled out PDF Form and hopefully merge it with the other files without saving it flattened out version first. Thanks

• ASP.NET - Extend gridview to allow filtering, sorting, paging, etc...

  I have seen threads on many sites regarding extending the gridview control so obviously this will be a duplicate. But I haven't found any that truly extend the control to the extent that you could have custom sorting (with header images), filtering by putting drop downs or textboxes in header columns (on a column by column basis) and custom paging (one that doesn't return all records but just returns the ones requested for the given page). Are there any good tutorials that show the inner-workings of the gridview and how to override the proper functions? I've seen several snippets here and there but none seem to really work and explain things well. Any links would be appreciated. Thanks!

• Matlab 3d volume visualization and 3d overlay

  Hi, so the question ist pretty much the title. I have a 3d volume loaded as raw data [256, 256, 256] = size(A). It contains only values of zero's and ones, where the 1's represent the structure and 0's the "air". I want to visualize the structure in matlab and then run an algorithm on it and put an overlay on it, let's say in the color red. So to be more precise: How do i visualize the 3d volume. 0's transparent, 1's semitransparent? Plot a line in the 3 d vis as an overlay? I already read the mathworks tutorials and they didn't help. I tried using the set command, but it fails completly saying for every property i try "invalid root property". I hope someone can help.

• The web publishing extension is not installed which is required to publish

  I was tring to deploy an ASP.NET Web Application to a Windows Azure Web Site by following the tutorial through this link: https://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/develop/net/tutorials/get-started/ After download the public profile, which is a ".PublishSettings" file, I go back to Visual Studio and right-click the project in Solution Explorer and select Publish from the context menu as the tutorial said. However, a warning box jumped up and it showed me that "The Web Publishing extension is not installed which is required to publish. You can install it from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=208120." I already installed "Windows Azure SDK for .NET (VS 2012)" and I also tried to uninstall this and install again, but the same problem is still there. Anyone knows how to solve this? I am really appreciated.

  I have problems installing PHPUnit 3.4.6 via PEAR 1.9.0. After I discover channel pear.phpunit.de and try to use one of following commands: pear install phpunit/PHPUnit pear install --alldeps phpunit/PHPUnit pear install --onlyreqdeps phpunit/PHPUnit it fails, giving me following error: No releases available for package "pear.phpunit.de/PHPUnit" install failed I found several threads from people with the same problem, but upgrading PEAR to the newest version usually worked for them. Also there seems to be close to no tutorials for installing PHPUnit for Windows. EDIT: I've also tried to change prefered_state to beta; didn't help. I've also tried to get list of all available packages: pear remote-list -c phpunit It gives me another error: Cannot download non-http URL "/c/categories.xml"

• Pixel Shader Effect Examples

  I've seen a number of pixel-shader effect examples, stuff like swirl on an image. But I'm wondering if anyone knows of any examples or tutorials for more practical uses of shader effects? I'm not saying that a swirl effect doesn't have it's uses, it's just that many of the examples I've found have the basic effect explained and don't go into how it might be used subtly with another effect or transition to produce a wonderful effect. There's a video here, that outlines all the WPF Effects Library, but I'm not sure how I would use some of them in a practical context. For example, when Flash 8 came out with effects like blur, I found a wonderful video that showed how to use the blur effect to create a cool effect with speeding text, that video inspired many ideas of what I could do with the effects in Flash 8. I'm looking for something similar with Pixel Shader Effects.

• RPG Game loop and class structure (cocos2D for iPhone)

  I'm looking to make an RPG with Cocos2D on the iPhone. I've done a fair bit of research, and I really like the model Cocos2D uses for scenes. I can instantiate a scene, set up my characters etc. and it all works really nicely... what I have problems with is structuring a game loop and separating the code from the scenes. For example, where do I put my code that will maintain the state of the game across multiple scenes? and do I put the code for events that get fired in a scene in that scene's class? or do I have some other class that separates the init code from the logic? Also, I've read a lot of tutorials that mention changing scenes, but I've read none that talk about updating a scene - taking input from the user and updating the display based on that. Does that happen in the scene object, or in a separate display engine type class. Thanks in advance!

  This is a terribly beginner series of questions, but after reading through a good 30 SPARQL tutorials I can't seem to wrap my head around what SPARQL is or how to begin using it. Is it executed on the client side? Is microsoft somehow going to be able to mess this up? Can you use a common relational database (SQL)? Are there particular resources you recommend over others for learning? Do you feel it is premature to begin investing myself in this? Best way to get set up and running to start tinkering? The RDFA examples I have seen are very inspiring. I am currently a big proponent of using microformats but would really like to take it further. I currently develop in PHP, but have only found a Java library.

• nfs client on ubuntu 9.10, /etc/init.d/nfs-common does not exist

  This seems like a trivial problem, but I can not find a solution for several days now. I am trying to configure an nfs client on ubuntu 9.10 (64 bit). All the tutorials I've read say I need to restart a few things, such as portmap, and also nfs-common. Specifically: sudo /etc/init.d/nfs-common restart However, this file (/etc/init.d/nfs-common) does not exist. sudo apt-get install nfs-common returns "nfs-common is already the newest version." When I try: sudo service nfs restart I get: nfs: unrecognized service What am I missing here? Thank you to the kind soul who can help me with this.

  My rails app is about to go live and I'm trying to figure out how to create a widget based on data on the site. My Javascript is not too hot--limited to the O'reilly head first book on JS. I can read simple Javascript okay but when it comes to writing it I'm a little lost. That said, I hope to roll out a widget, maybe a wordpress plugin too soon after my app is launched. Does anyone know of any rails plugins, javascript templates, tutorials or books that can get me going?   I am trying to understand Adaboost algorithm but i have some troubles. After reading about Adaboost i realized that it is a classification algorithm(somehow like neural network). But i could not know how the weak classifiers are chosen (i think they are haar-like features for face detection) and how finally the H result which is the final strong classifier can be used. I mean if i found the alpha values and compute the H ,how am i going to benefit from it as a value (one or zero) for new images. Please is there an example describes it in a perfect way? i found the plus and minus example that is found in most adaboost tutorials but i did not know how exactly hi is chosen and how to adopt the same concept on face detection. I read many papers and i had many ideas but until now my ideas are not well arranged. Thanks....

• Error when starting a tab activity in Android?

  I followed the directions verbatim in this Android tutorial, copying/pasting the code from the site to my app. http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-tabwidget.html However, when I try to run in the Android emulator, I get the error: "The application Hello Tab Widget has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." I tried debugging by introducing a breakpoint in the first line of the onCreate method, but the error occurs before the breakpoint is even hit. Any idea of what is going wrong, or any other way I can debug this issue? I am using Eclipse.

• Cannot change font size in Tk

  Hello, I'm trying, for the first time, to create a GUI in Ruby using Tk. I've copied a code snippet from one of the numerous web tutorials and try to change the font for one of the labels, but nothing seems to affect how the text is presented. Here's the code: require 'tk' root = TkRoot.new('title'=>'MCIS') defaultFont = TkFont.new("weight"=>'bold', "size"=>20) Lbl = TkLabel.new(root) do text "Boooo" borderwidth 5 font defaultFont foreground "red" relief "groove" grid('column'=>3, 'row'=>0) end Tk.mainloop() I see the effects of all the parameters of the label but not the font. I've tried to change the size, the weight, give different family names, leave just one parameter; nothing works - the font stays default as it was. Surprisingly it doesn't report any errors, everything looks fine. Maybe it's versions problem? I run these: Linux Centos 5 Tk 8.4.13 Ruby 1.8.5 ruby-tcltk 1.8.5 Also, don't know if it is important, I ran it via Xming from WinXP machine.

• Dashcode development for iPhone resources

  I've been developing web applications and iPhone applications for years. Now I want to create a web application oriented to the iPhone browser. I willing to use Dashcode, since it seams to have tons of cool features that make my web app look like an native iPhone app. The problem I face is twofold: On one side I don't know it Dashcode development will allow me to do all I want (session control, runtime datasources, etc); on the other side I'm having a hard time finding good documentation, tutorials and books on Dashcode programing for the iPhone.
