  • Windows SBS 2008 and DNS issues

    Hey, We have a windows 2008 SBS, roughly every couple of days no machine on the network can access sites such as google/msn/bbc etc. Its solved easily by rebooting the DNS on the server, however this obviously should noy happen, can anyone suggest a reason or offer debugging assistance?

  • Terminal Server 2008 not issuing Volume device CAL's

    We've a lot of Volume Licences left, but the License Server apparantly doesn't use them. Instead it issues Temporary Per Device CAL's. Which is a bit odd off course... There are two licensing servers installed on terminal servers, not on a domain controller (these are pushed by SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services\LicenseServers registry setting) EDIT: http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/8927/ss20090909135547.png

  • Windows Vista file permissions does not inherit when copying to a network share

    I've got a network share with specific permissions on a subfolder (e.g. access to developers and freelancers). A designer copied PNG files from his local system to the network share. These files didn't inherit the folder permissions, but only gave access to Administrators. Is this a setting somewhere to restrict access, and can it be avoided? The local system uses Vista, the server uses Windows 2003.

This time we get an error during the installation of client tools: There was an unexpected failure during the setup wizard Link Id 20476, message ID 50000 There are no errors in the event log.   • Windows running service as "system" when log on as is "user"

    I have an apache service that is running as "SYSTEM", however the log on as settings are configured to run as my user account. The windows task manager claims that I am the user name associated with the service when it's running, however I had the apache service call a python script which indicates that the user is "SYSTEM. Any ideas on how to fix this? I've reinstalled 3 times and once with a newer version.

What I did: On the Windows 7 machine which I install the DHCP Server with the range 192.168.1.12-192.168.1.256. I set the Gigabit Ethernet adapter to a static IP address of 192.168.1.11 and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. When I did an IP config, it showed.   • Putty can't connect to USB modem on Windows 7

    I'm trying to configure caller id on a USB modem connected to a Windows 7 x32 machine. Hyperterminal isn't available so I downloaded the latest version of Putty and am using the Serial option. I'm using the modem's COM port details from Device Manager (COM5, 115200 baud), but when I open the putty session it just hangs with the cursor at the top left hand corner. Hitting the Enter key does nothing. Any ideas??

    I would prefer to set up our DFS such as: \domain.local\users \domain.local\customers \domain.local\support etc. Is this a problem? Do I need to instead set all of the above folders as targets under a root such as: \domain.local\files\users \domain.local\files\customers \domain.local\files\support Other than the path being shorter in the top example, which is what I would prefer, is there a difference in functionality in Windows DFS between the two examples shown?     I have a user that has rights to change permissions within a certain folder on a Windows Server 2003 network share. Although I grant this person the rights to change permission and ownership this person cannot change any permissions. The network share is also set to allow everyone full control. (I understand it is bad practice yet this is how it was first configured) Is there any reason why this domain user cannot modify permissions on the folder and files they create?

When i configure the virtual machine in hyper-v i configure 4gb of ram then few days later y change it to 12gb of Ram Problem the problem is when i change the ram the virtual machine star working slower and i have to return the 4gb of ram. i cretae a new virtual machine and i configure the virtual machine with 12gb of ram from start but still working to slow do you know how to solve this problem in hyper-v?
