• Nginx and low-speed connections: request terminates after 253 seconds

  I'm trying to make nginx to handle static files. All is working fine except that when I throttle my connection speed to 8kbit/s, the loading process of a file just stops after 253-255 seconds (4.2 min according to chrome). No error in the log, the status code is 200 but the response is received partially. If I disable nginx and make apache to send the same file - it loads successfully after 10 minutes. The config I use for debugging is: client_header_buffer_size 16k; large_client_header_buffers 4 8k; client_max_body_size 50m; client_body_buffer_size 16k; client_header_timeout 20m; client_body_timeout 20m; send_timeout 20m; Did i miss some configurations?

• (Possibly) Corrupted DDCrypt self-decrypting file

  I recently discovered some files I had encrypted and archived on a CD using DDCrypt 2.0, which is a small encryption utility from back in the day. One of its functions is to create self-decrypting files, which are essentially EXE files that you can enter a password and then have the file extracted onto your filesystem. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get them to do this properly. They appear to be decrypting and then at the last moment I get the error: Error opening encrypted file C:\users\username\Temp\dde3cfa.tmp Reason: Success and then another dialog immediately says Error extracting ddc file. I'm not really sure what this means (certainly not success), but I've checked out the temporary file and it appears to be garbage data (although of the right file size). I don't know if anyone has an idea what might be done here to extract the files, or has dealt with a similar situation before. Any ideas are appreciated! • Windows/Samba connection error

  I have a Linux fileserver serving up /home for linux and windows users. I was able to connect from my windows client, but not from a DC. Then suddenly I could connect from the DC too. The linux servers run Centrify clients, and as such are part of the domain. All on same subnet. This is what the the log.smbd says, repeatedly: [2010/02/11 11:25:57, 0] lib/util_sock.c:read_data(534) read_data: read failure for 4 bytes to client 192.168.200.3. Error = Connection reset by peer On Windows it appeared as an "unknown error". EDIT: the error code is "0x80004005". We are developing a system depended on the samba share, and are worried this will appear again. It would be nice to pin point the root of this. Any ideas what this might be? Places to look?

• How to increase the disk cache of Windows 7

  Under Windows 7 (64 bit), I'm reading through 9000 moderately sized files. In total, there is more than 200 MB of data. Using Java (JDK 1.6.21) I'm iterating over the files. The first 1400 or so go at full speed but then speed drops off to 4ms per file. It turns out that the main cost is incurred simply by opening the files. I'm opening the files using new FileInputStream (and of course closing them in time to avoid file leaks). After some investigating, I see that Windows' disk cache is using only 100 MB or so of RAM although I have 8 GiB available. I've tried increasing the cache size using the CacheSet tool but any values I provide are considered out of range. I've also tried enabling the LargeSystemCache registry key but (after rebooting) the CacheSet tool still indicates I'm using 100 MB of cache (and doesn't increase during the test run). Does anybody have any suggestions to "encourage" Windows 7 to cache my 9000 files?

The url looks like this: http://websvn.myurl.com/list.php?repname=name_1 I am trying to download using: svn checkout --username myuser --password mypass "http://websvn.myurl.com/list.php?repname=name_1" I got "URL is not properly URI-encoded", then I changed the "?" for "%3F", and the output shows: svn: OPTIONS of 'http://websvn.myurl.com/list.php%3Frepname=name_1': 200 OK (http://websvn.myurl.com/) But nothing gets downloaded. Sorry I can't post the real URL, but it's a private project and I don't have anyone else online to ask. What am I doing wrong?

• Recovering damaged external hard disk by installing internally

  I had a 1TB Western Digital (My book series) 3.5" USB3. One day, the SATA to USB3 converter board was damaged and has not worked since. I decided to open the cover and use the HDD as an internal HDD. When I attached the HDD to my PC and booted up in Windows, it asked me which type of ????? I want to use "MBR or GBR" (I dont remember the exact question) I chose MBR and Windows gave me a 1TB empty Hard drive. I tried to recover with recover my files and some other recovery programs but no success. Some one told me that you should choosed GBR instead of MBR . How can I do that now? Another guy told me that the SATA to USB3 converter board is coded to save data on HDD and you can not use them internally without losing data, and I should find another SATA to USB3 board (exact same). It is impossible to find because they are not produced any more. Please help me to find a solution to bring back my data. UPDATE I have 1TB WD "Mybook" USB 3. the board that convert sata to usb3 was damaged. so when the HDD was in the box computer did not recognize it. I opened the box and remove HDD to use it internal. after connecting to my PC windows showed me one massage that I had two choice MBR or GPT I choosed MBR one and windows gave me 1TB empty new volume. I tried many recovery software to recover my data but no success. I brought it to one expert recovery company and they told me the converter board (SATA to USB3) make some encryption on data and with out that board you cannot recover any thing. so I bought another empty WD box and put the HDD inside but even after that also there is no file. I tried to recover again in this state but no success. so I have some unanswered question. does this converted boards make any password or encryption? if yes how can I solve it? does using many recovery programs affected my data? any suggestion or solution for bring back my data? I had use recovery programs such as : recover my files , EaseUS data recovery, easy recovery, test disk, Ontrack easy recovery . Note: when I was using test disk it asked me to choose which partition table I want to use. as it was I choose NTFS, does this made any change on data?

• node.js server not running

  I am trying to learn node.js, but I'm having trouble getting the simple server to run on localhost:8888. Here is the code for server.js: var http = require("http"); http.createServer(function(request, response) { response.writeHead(200, {"Content-Type": "text/plain"}); response.write("Hello World"); response.end(); }).listen(8888); server.js runs without errors, and trying netstat -an | grep 8888 from terminal returns tcp4 0 0 *.8888 *.* LISTEN However, when I go to localhost:8888 in a browser, it says that it cannot be found. I've looked at all the related questions, and nothing has worked so far. I've tried different ports, etc. I know that my router blocks incoming traffic on port 8888, but shouldn't that not matter if I'm trying to access it locally? • MS Excel: Can I link images using a relative path?

  I am working on an MS Excel document that contains a lot of (around 200) images. They are currently saved within the document, so the file becomes huge and working gets very slow. Linking the pictures without saving them works very well - I now have the Excel document and a folder "pictures" next to it that contains all my image files. However, when I move the document and the folder to a new location, all my pictures disappear. This seems to be because Excel saves the link information as absolute paths. (Update: Actually, according to this thread, Excel stores the link information as relative paths as well. Now I really don't know why my links break down..) Is there a convenient way to save them as relative paths or have Excel automatically update the path information? Update: It's important that the images get displayed on the sheet and can be printed. I am working with Microsoft Excel for Mac 2008 and 2011. I really appreciate your help.

• Relating ping to perceived browser GUI response

  We periodically get complaints of poor GUI (browser page) response that we need to explore. I am looking for a quick and cheap first check to see if the issue is network latency, or server performance. Has anyone encountered any discussion of ping time and perceived GUI response? I understand that GUI response is complicated, but it would be nice if we could find or develop a rule of thumb along the lines of "Hmmmm, ping is over 200, it might be network problems". Ideally, this lives in a script on the user's machine so that we can see the latency that they are seeing... (BASH, Linux). A reference to a good discussion page would be a fine answer, as would any recommendation of other source material.

  As Hosting.com are no longer offerring Windows VPS accounts, we are looking for a new US based provider. Looking for something that offers standard Windows IIS hosting for a Dotnetnuke portal site with SQL Server Express or Web. Basic managed services for OS updates as well as regular backups required. Good level of support and solid uptime is critical. Budget in the $150-$200 month range but flexible depeding on quality and services offerred. Anyone have any suggestions and good feedback they can share? Currently looking at Jodohost as an option but would like some other possibilities as their support can be suspect at times we have found. A cloud solution in same range would also be an option.

  I have a vmware VPS running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise that has performance issues with MySQL. Every few minutes, MySQL stall for few seconds then responed to queries. I'm sure that my.ini need to be optimized, but unfortunately, I don't have any idea of my.ini configuration. • Best server for mailing application [closed]

  My application is similar to a reminder service that reminds users of events that they scheduled. I'm sending emails to users through a PHP script. I'm not sending one email to multiple recipients. Each recipient receives a different message. I plan to use cron jobs every minute and expect the application to send roughly 200 individual emails in 1 hour (for a small user base that may grow). I don't have hosting experience with this type of application. I plan to start on a shared host and move up in the future to vps or dedicated. Most shared hosts that I looked into allow 50-100 emails per hour with delays between mailings. Please kindly inform me what I should look for in web hosts for this kind of application.

• Apache timeouts and error log

  I have an error whenever I run my code for a certain time. I use a lot of loops and sql connections. I basically, put and take out links from my database. The problem is that there is some error thrown that I cant see, whenever I execute a long sql operation .. Note that the fault isnt the code. The code runs well, whenever there are a few links involved. But when there are over 200 links.. an error is thrown that I cants see. I tried to trace the error in a few places: C:\Program Files\Zend\ZendServer\logs\php_error.log C:\Program Files\Zend\phpMyAdmin\config.inc.php Edit Viewer in win xp I am running XP: Windows xp php version: 5.3.9-ZS5.6.0. Now currently these people are send emails in groups of around 20 as the standard apple email program does not allow more.   We are setting up a small, single PC office about 200 miles away. We plan on getting a cable internet connection but need some advice on a sufficient firewall. We would like to keep it under $100 if possible. 2 options we are considering are: Cisco RVS4000 (got some bad reviews) Linksys WRT120N (running DD-WRT) We need the ability for VPN but other than that we don't need anything special.   Hi, I would like to have several Nginx instances running on my server on separate ports (for example one user runs Nginx on port 2345, and another user on port 2346). So far, I have been successful in compiling and running the server on their designated ports. However, I am running into a weird issue: If i visit domain1.com:2345 or domain2.com:2346 I get the correct (200) response but if I visit domain1.com or domain2.com (without specifying the port) I get no response at all. Any help/clues in figuring out how to set this up would be highly appreciated.

I will have to make a table in excel or access capable of looking up the stock and price trends of a particular brand through time. Trouble is, I have two independent variables (Stock, Price) and two known dependent variables (Name, Date). So, I cannot use a simple table where the x axis is the name, y axis is the time, and the cells represent a quantity - each cell have to represent two quantities (Stock, Price) Does anyone know how to do that? • HTTPS load balancing based on some component of the URL

  We have an existing application that we wish to split across multiple servers (for example: 1000 users total, 100 users split across 10 servers). Ideally, we'd like to be able relay the HTTPS requests to a particular server based on some component of the URL. For example: Users 1 through 100 go to http://server1.domain.com/ Users 2 through 200 go to http://server2.domain.com/ etc. etc. etc. Where the incoming requests look like this: https://secure.domain.com/user/{integer user # goes here}/path/to/file Does anyone know of an easy way to do this? Pound looks promising... but it doesn't look like it supports routing based on URL like this. Even better would be if it didn't need to be hard-coded- The load balancer could make a separate HTTP request to another server to ask "Hey, what server should I relay to for a request to URL {the URL that was requested goes here}?" and relay to the hostname returned in the HTTP response.

  When I play my game it does not show my _Player Movieclip, but it does collide with the ground which is very confusing. So I believe the movieclip is there but not showing the texture/Sprite. • Excel macro to delete empty rows isn't stopping

  How do I make it stop after a certain amount of rows? I've taken a VBA course and my teacher explained how to delete empty rows. I'm now trying to put this in place but my macro isn't stopping. I thought I had limited it to 200 rows. I'm missing something important. Any pointers much appreciated.
