  • Can't get my Raspberry Pi to keep a static IP

    I recently got given a Raspberry Pi and I would like to be able to remote into it using puTTy from my laptop so I don't have to sit next to my tv with a keyboard and mouse to use it. I am able to get a puTTy session going when I know the IP address that my router has given the Pi on each session but it keeps changing on each reboot as I would expect. So I followed a number if instruction to go about configuring the RPi to keep a static IP address. This involved changing the file at '/etc/netwrok/interfaces' which now contains (password removed): auto lo iface lo inet loopback iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.82 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.254 auto wlan0 allow-hotplug wlan0 iface wlan0 inet dhcp wpa-ssid "BeBoxD304BF" wpa-psk "**********" Despite this however, each time I reboot my RPi it gives me a new dynamic IP address still. The file at '/etc/resolv.conf' contains: domain config search config nameserver 192.168.1.254 ..I heard it might mean something on one of the pages I was looking at. I would be very grateful for any help with this. I have tried everything I can think of and would really like to get this working this weekend so I can use it from work.

  • Keep remoting into wrong account. Windows 7

    I have a home theatre PC running with two users accounts on windows 7. The default account logs into locally. The account 'Paul' is present but is denied local log in so the default auto logs in locally. I am trying to remote into account Paul using RDC however it tries to log into the default account and I am presented with an an option to boot the present user off so I can log in. How do I specify which account I want to log into?

  • nvidia on ubuntu 10.10: switching dvi socket

    i have ubuntu 10.10 x86_64 with nvidia 9800 gt and nvidia driver version 270.41.06 my video card has two DVI sockets, but i only use single monitor configuration. Now, i think the main DVI socket might be busted, so i want to try to enable the other as the main one, however, i don't know how to achieve that. I tried just plugging the monitor in that socket but it won't just auto-detect (it would have been way too easy to just work)

    I need to set the following formula on many cells: =VLOOKUP(MAX(Historical!$A$5:$FZ$99999),Historical!$A$5:$FZ$99999,7,1) This formula looks up the most recent date in the History table, and returns the value specified. Here I'm returning column 7. How can I paste the cells and auto increment the value where "7" is. In other words I need to paste that summary formula on several hundred cells and change the number 7 for each.

  • lwp-rget changes file format automatically to .bin?

    Im trying to recursively get an html page to get everything that's there and save it to my directory. Lwp-rget from perl allows me to do this but I'm having the problem that its getting all the files and changing them from .rpm, .xml, .html, etc to .bin. I've been trying to maybe use the --keepext=application/xml or any type but it continues to save the file as .bin. Any way I can stop that auto formatting? Thanks.

  • Why is the Windows UI responds slowly after being idle for a long time?

    I open these applications in my desktop computer: Visual Studio 2010 Professional IBM Lotus Notes Google Chrome And when it is idle for an hour and I restore the windows, the user interface responds very slowly. My computer auto-lock itself after being idle for 5 minutes. I also minimize the applications using a docklet (RocketDock). Why is it slowing down and how can I prevent it from slowing? My OS is Windows XP Professional SP3, Pentum(R) Dual Core @ 2.80 GHz, 1.99 GB of RAM.

    I have this command to create a service: sc create svnserve binpath="\"C:\Program Files (x86)\Subversion\bin\svnserve.exe\" --service --root C:\SVNRoot" displayname="Subversion" depend=tcpip start=auto obj="NT AUTHORITY\LocalService" Unfortunately, it seems not to work, even though the syntax is correct. When I run it, I get the usage instructions (which I guess is a way of telling me that I've supplied incorrect arguments, although I have no idea what incorrect argument I might have supplied).   • Cannot reset an network interfaces without a reboot

    I have edited the /etc/network/interfaces file and I use the sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart. After restart, the eth1 interfaces don't setup properly. I need a hard reboot to enable this configuration. Meanwhile the command line hints: Running /etc/init.d/networking restart is deprecated because it may not enable again some interfaces. Am I using the run command to restart network interfaces? auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 192.168.1.87 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1

When I boot them machines it is asking me to install the applications, how can i get it to auto install the apps without prompting.   • Can't validate mine, sudo nor root in Debian "Jessie" Gnome anymore?

    I'm Debian beginner & GUI guy in a bit of trouble? Can't login as sudo/gksu/root/su nor as (main/super)user after removed user password via Gnome-user-settings. History of actions (Probably irrelevant though) Installed Debian "Jessie" GNU/Linux with xFce GUI (en-US) as only OS. HardWare is ThinkPad w510. Skipped root user password in setup, to get sudo for superuser easily. Logged in (as always had) with Gnome (3.4.x), not once with xFCE. (installed Xfce. Installed xFce only to achieve more control (easier management) over packages this way, to set-up gnome much more by mine likes. Added more jessie repros (same ones as in Wheesy stable by default but for Jessie as, Jessie only had repros for security updates by default). Installed lots of gtk(3) & gnome(3) based soft; (- restarted again after this) Installed propietary graphics card driver for mine nvidia quadro. (- restarted once again after that one) Installed more stuff related to mine work/school/devel. The actual problem Had a plan to restart again, but wanted to set up auto-login first, instead set user password to none (don't ask why / perhaps caused by being awake for a looooong time), noticed it, and set also to auto-login, but couldn't undo mine previous mistake to create new password for me. As mine password is set to none I would have expected that simply return in pass prompt for emty password field would do, but it won't authenticate. I tried Alt+F2 "gksu gedit" as well as: sudo wget "https://www.some-page.eu/file.ext" and "su" in terminals, none has applied (quite logical actually - as I'm sudoer and highest ranked super user, besides only user in computer). Current stand Everything worked & still works nice after this accident, besides this password prompts part. To spoked to log-out nor restart. Synaptic package-manager is still open with root rights (only one, that has left open prior to the issue and not closed since, just in case). Goggled for help and read some manuals/faqs/how-tos - mostly lead to sudoers file management, but not found one specifically for mine issue - so still not any smarter. Really hope, that I don't have to redo OS inst all over again, by just one stupid mistake. Thanks for your reply :-)

I need to run Firefox but it seems like a lot of my clients are still running versions of Firefox 3 (is this an operating system issue? Doesn't Firefox auto-update?) so I need to run 3 plus the latest version to troubleshoot some css issues...

    I have a file share, and I want a process which enumerates files on that share and automatically creates a 7z self-extracting exe of files over 1 month old. On a different share, I want to create a 7z self-extracting exe of directories that are over 1 month old. Any idea if there is a program which can do this? I already have 7z a -t7z -mx9 -sfx filename.exe filename.txt Portion of it, just need more of the auto-management portion.

  • Linux depends hell when installing a small mp3 player...

    I try to install a small audio player named "Audacious" with the following command: sudo apt-get install audacious and it tells me that it depends audacious-plugins, so I try to install the audacious-plugins, one thing leads to another, there're numerous depends and it is just impossible to install all of them manually... Is it even possible to install a software on ubuntu linux? Is there a way to auto install all the depends? (I have never seen such a stupid software manager.) Many thanks.

    I'm trying to setup multiple virtual interfaces with VLAN's on a single NIC. I'm running Debian Squeeze. Currently this is my /etc/netowrk/interfaces auto eth0.10 iface eth0.10 inet dhcp This gives me a working connection, however I'm not sure how to configure several like these on a single NIC so I can use multiple external IP's. I have tried aliasing the VLAN's like so: iface eth0.10:1 But that was not successful and it said failed to bring up interface. And suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

    I'm trying to set up a shared filesystem on EC2 and I've read tutorials such as this: http://blog.ronaldmccollam.com/2012/07/configuring-nfs-on-ubuntu-in-amazon-ec2.html In step 2 it talks about configuring the exports, for this I need an IP range but when I'm auto-scaling I can't predict what the IP will be before it scales. Currently when looking at the "Critical" count I find it difficult to decide if an internal service is affected (I should take immediate action) or an external service (I just acknowledge the problem). Is there a way to keep a problem acknowledgement for future down-times of the checked host/service? Is there some way to auto-acknowledge the state change of external hosts/services?
