• Converting between unsigned and signed int safely

  I have an interface between a client and a server where a client sends (1) an unsigned value, and (2) a flag which indicates if value is signed/unsigned. Server would then static cast unsigned value to appropriate type. I later found out that this is implementation defined behavior and I've been reading about it but I couldn't seem to find an appropriate solution that's completely safe? I've read about type punning, pointer conversions, and memcpy. Would simply using a union type work? A UnionType containing signed and unsigned int, along with the signed/unsigned flag. For signed values, client sets the signed part of the union, and server reads the signed part. Same for the unsigned part. Or am I completely misunderstanding something? Side question: how do I know the specific behavior in this case for a specific scenario, e.g. windriver diab on PPC? I'm a bit lost on how to find such documentation.

  Hi, I hope I can explain this good enough. I have 3 tables. wo_parts, workorders and part2vendor. I am trying to get the cost price of all parts sold in a month. I have this script. $scoreCostQuery = "SELECT SUM(part2vendor.cost*wo_parts.qty) as total_score FROM part2vendor INNER JOIN wo_parts ON (wo_parts.pn=part2vendor.pn) WHERE workorder=$workorder"; What I am trying to do is each part is in wo_parts (under partnumber [pn]). The cost of that item is in part2vendor (under part number[pn]). I need each part price in part2vendor to be multiplied by the quantity sold in wo_parts. The way all 3 tie up is workorders.ident=wo_parts.workorder and part2vendor.pn=wo_parts.pn. I hope someone can assist. The above script does not give me the same total as when added by calculator.

• How can I "slide up" a view on android from the bottom of a screen?

  I'm trying to make a really simple slide up list view, which is displayed when a user clicks on a button at the bottom of the screen. Here's how it should look: And a complete implementation in HTML/JS http://jsbin.com/utAQOVA/1/edit I've tried to use RelativeLayout to position the list just below the button, and put that whole thing into a wrapper and then animate that up/down (same as in the JSBin above). The problem is that the bottom part which isn't visible in the beginning is somehow clipped, even if I slide it up. Evern if I initially show a portion of the list as the screenshow below shows, the bottom part gets clipped when it moves up and only the part that was initially visible is displayed. • How to replace a multipart message schema in a map without replacing the map

  I have an orchestration map that maps two source messages into one destination message. When the schema for one of the source messages changes, I was hoping to be able to click on the input message part and select "Replace Schema" to refresh the schema for just the message part affected. Instead I can only replace the entire multipart message schema with the single message part schema. My only other option seems to be to generate a new map from the orchestration transform shape, but this means I have to recreate all the links in my map... Does anyone know of a more efficient way to update this type of schema?

  I am building a Sharepoint web part that will be used by all users. The web part connects to a web service which needs credentials with higher privileges than common users. I hard coded credentials in the web part's code. query.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("username", "password", "domain"); query is an instance of the web service class This may not be a good approach. In regard with security, source code of the web apart is available to people who are not allowed to see the credential. This is bad enough, But is there any other drawback of this approach? How to prevent hard coding credentials into the source code? Thanks

  Currently I'm working on a Server-Client system which will be the backbone of my application. I have to find the best way to send requests and handle them on the server-side. The server-side should be able to handle requests like this one: getPortfolio -i 2 -d all In an old project I decided to send such a request as string and the server application had to look up the first part of the string ("getPortfolio"). Afterwards the server application had to find the correct method in a map which linked the methods with the the first part of the string ("getPortfolio"). The second part ("-i 2 -d all") got passed as parameter and the method itself had to handle this string/parameter. I doubt that this is the best solution in order to handle many different requests. My question is this: Suppose I want to add a 3rd-party weather web part to the home page of my new intranet site. Since the new site uses HTTPS, do I need to make sure to find an HTTPS-compliant web part? I would like to enhance it to support cross-frames . It means, the horizontal part of the whole menu (html,css,javascript etc..in demo page) will exist in the upper frame and the rest will be put in the lower frame. But it seems that OriginalObject is out of scope in that part of the query. I can sort of understand why, since I am not grouping on that property and I am also not making that property part of CustomObject that I'm grouping. One workaround is to add a property C to CustomObject and the in the GroupOfCustomObjects read the value of the first CustomObject in the grouping. My issue with that is that I'm adding a property to an object that doesn't need it (CustomObject), just to be able to add it to the GroupOfCustomObjects. I hope I have explained this properly! Is there a way to refer to the OriginalObject that the query starts with? Thanks!

I'm interested in modifying the search query with additional text before it is submitted, based on a custom checkbox added on the Web Part. Any help on how I can achieve this? UPDATE: I've used the AppendToQuery and AppQueryTerms properties, but this will rewrite the text in the search box as well. I'm interested in passing the values "in the background", maybe as an extra parameter. Point is that the query modification should happen without the user seeing it explicitly.

• Hyperlinks in VS2008 Test Result Details

  In case when resulting string in "Test Result Details" (TRD) is very long, the Visual Studio 2008 crashes. I fixed this by sending the result data into a file. There is a problem, however, because there isn't a simple way to open such file. Of course, I can manually open folder and then the file, but it isn't very efficient. Now, to the questions part. Is there a possibility to include in the "Error Message" part of TRD a hyperlink to a file? (something similar to what we can already find in the stack trace part) If not, is there any way to add such functionality (easy opening of a file) to TRD? If not, are there any ways to expand the default reporting of VS? Thanks for any help.

  I have an encryption algorithm (AES) that accepts file converted to array byte and encrypt it. Since I am going to process a very big size files, the JVM may go out of memory. I am planing to read the files in multiple array byte. each containing some part of the file. Then I teratively feed the algorithm. Finally merge them to produce encrypted file. So my question is: there any way to read a file part by part to multiple array byte? I thought I can use the following to read the file to array byte: IOUtils.toByteArray(InputStream input). And then split the array into multiple bytes using: Arrays.copyOfRange(). But I am afraid that the first code that reads file to byte will make the JVM to go out of memory. any suggestion please ? thanks

  Hi, I have had my new rails program up for a few days now. I'm running it on Ubuntu 10.4 with apache2 in another location than the website it's made for (it's a standalone database application for physiotherapists). The people I made it for now want me to deploy it to the public part of their website, only with one change. Those who open it via the link in the public-part should not be able to click one button! I was thinking of doing something like this in my view: <% if session[:inside]%> <%=button_to 'Sækja mælitæki', @link_to_mt%> <%end%> How could I set session[:inside] only to true if the program was started from within the private part of the webpage? • Are breakpoints introduce delay?

  How is that setting a breakpoint in my code allows the following code to complete which would fail otherwise. Here is the problem. I'm writing an add-on for SAP B1 and encountered following problem. When I load a form I would like to enter some values into the form' matrix. But without a breakpoint (set on a method in which loading a form takes place) the part of code that is executed afterwards will fail. That part of code is referencing a matrix that is not yet displayed which results in an exception. This is all clear. But why setting a breakpoint "solves" the problem. What is going on? I suspect that my breakpoint introduces some delay between loading and displaying my form and part of code that references element of that form but I could be wrong. Thanks in advance
