• How to Avoid Maven builds stall on ssh host authenticity problem?

  What's the right way to keep ssh host authenticity from being a problem for maven and hudsno builds? I have hudson building my maven project on a VM. When the ESX server with my VMs on it is taxed some of my jobs will stall out stuck in a loop of ssh host authenticity problems. The hosts were in the known hosts file, but during these times the clocks on the slave VMs have drifted far from those of my maven repo. • Can I use the newer versions of Visual Studio to do "old" things?

  I have several ATL/COM-based DLLs that I've been using Visual C++ 6.0 on. I require a couple of "old" things out of the generated DLLs: (1) They must be compatible with projects developed in Visual Basic 6.0 (the old VB6, emphatically not VB.Net). (2) They must be compatible with old operating systems - minimum Windows 98 SE. To be clear, I mean they must run on such OSes, not that I would have to be able to develop them on a machine running such an OS. I am sick of Visual Studio 6.0. Converting to Dot Net (or any other major change like that) is out of the question at the current time, so I must continue to use VB6. But can I switch to the newer Visual Studio's C++, with a minimum of effort (i.e. little if any required recoding)? If so, are there any "gotchas" I should watch out for? Thanks.

• VSS: How do I recover from "File <foo> has been destroyed, and cannot be rebuilt."?

  We're running Visual SourceSafe 6.0 (build 8163). In one project, there's an old label I want to do a Get on, but a few files have been added and destroyed since that label was created. Now everytime I try to do a Get on the label - for each destroyed file - I get the warning "File has been destroyed and cannot be rebuilt, do you want to continue?", (which seems completely stupid, since the destroyed files never existed before the label was set). I've tried adding files with the same name, but that didn't help. I also tried deleting (not destroying) those added files, but that didn't help either. I really want to be rid of the warning, since the home-cooked building app we use to build all the projects doesn't handle this error/warning, and hence can't Get the label requested and build that project. Help! (and no, running VSS is not by choice, trust me, I was hoping never to see it again after the first time I was forced to use it, which was ten years ago)

• How to change the layout of the CreateUserWizard control?

  How to change just the layout (template) of the CreateUserWizard control programmatically? I would to define another layout (not using the horrid table) but continue to use all the event handling and the creation of the user of the CreateUserWizard control. Just for reference, the following code doesn't work, and produces an unexpected result not representing my Template at all.   Hi! I am using apache tika 7.0, one of the classes, called FLVParser, which is used to extrac metadata from videos. But, when i try to use one of the methos in the class, i get this error in Eclipse: Multiple markers at this line Syntax error on token "parse", Identifier expected after this token Syntax error on token(s), misplaced construct(s) I don't know exactly the meaning of this, and i don't know how to continue. I add the poiece of code also: FLVParser VideoParser = new FLVParser(); VideoParser.parse(); //Here is the error message Any ideas, please?? • (php) how to properly 'save' info in forms completed thus far

  So i have a form that on paper is 40 pages long. I was going to take the natural sections of this form, and make separate html forms for each section, with the idea that on the first page there would be a first form, then you hit 'Continue to next section' which essentially is the 'submit' button, which moves the user to section two, etc, until they hit the last section. i am not actually storing the results of the form in a database, but rather sending an email. the idea then is to store the separate form answers (one html form per section in the real form) as arrays or objects in the session, so that if they go back to a section in the form, it repopulates the values they entered since they are stored in the session. the result would be an array in the session storing the results for each of my forms, and i have one form for each section. my question is: is it secure to temporarily store things like SSNs or driver's license numbers as session variables? why or why not?

• Why doesn't IronRuby have the same tools that IronPython does?

  Hi, I've been using Ruby as my main scripting language for years but switched to .NET several years ago. I'd like to continue using Ruby (primarily for testing) BUT the toolset for IronRuby is really nonexistent. Why? In Python, meanwhile, there are project templates and full intellisense support. Why isn't there something like that for IronRuby? The only thing I've been able to find on it is "there are no plans for VS integration at this time." Why???

• Weird problem cucumber behaving differently when run with the debugger

  When I run a cucumber test it executes the code thinking that a collection obtained inside of a controller via a has_many relationship on a model is empty when it isn't. I ran this same test but with the debugger turned and a breakpoint before the collection is used. When I print collection in the debugger at this breakpoint the collection is as it should be (not empty). Then I continue and the test executes as it should. With no debugger and breakpoints though, the test exectues as though the collection is empty. Has anyone had a problem like this/what did you do to fix it?

  I've got a Perl script I'm using for running a file processing tool which is started using backticks. The problem is that occasionally the tool hangs and It needs to be killed in order for the rest of the files to be processed. Whats the best way best way to apply a timeout after which the parent script will kill the hung process? At the moment I'm using: foreach $file (@FILES) { $runResult = `mytool $file >> $file.log`; } But when mytool hangs after n seconds I'd like to be able to kill it and continue to the next file.

• Hot deploy on Heroku with no downtime

  A bad side of pushing to Heroku is that I must push the code (and the server restarts automatically) before running my db migrations. This can obviously cause some 500 errors on users navigating the website having the new code without the new tables/attributes: the solution proposed by Heroku is to use the maintenance mode, but I want a way with no downside letting my webapp running everytime! Is there a way? For example with Capistrano: I prepare the code to deploy in a new dir I run (backward) migrations and the old code continue to work perfectly I swith mongrel instance to the new dir and restart the server ...and I have no downtime!

• Debuging to simulator crashes with "exited with status 5" unless I debug

  For some reason the app I am working on has very bad PMT! Literally! Most of the time I cannot debug using the simulator without putting a breakpoint in my AppDelegate. If I don't it exists with "status 5". If I put a break point in and simple continue it works perfectly well, it also works if I run the app in the simulator when not connected to the GDB. I have tried the source on a second machine with exactly the same results. I dont have this issue building to the device?!?!?! Thanks

• Remote (RDP) utility with mstscax.dll

  I am looking for information on using mstscax.dll in VB. The goal is to create a utility that logs into a remote service in the same manner as remote desktop. However, my utility is not required to show the desktop. I have a series of commands that I will start off with that will look for users, reset logins, shadow, and message. I have been using a batch file on my RDP to perform these functions, but we are already looking for more functionality and power than what the batch commands can offer. I am googling 'mstscax.dll' but the results have been less than satisfactory although I continue to search. Does anyone have any good references? Is this even going to be possible?

• I Clean Solution'd my Winform App and now it's broken...

  I have a Winform App that uses a 3rd Party Library of Controls, DevExpress. I also created a bunch of Controls myself, extending those controls. Everything has been working fine when all of a sudden I opened VS today and on the Design Page all my extended controls were missing. I then tried rebuilding to no avail. Then I tried Cleaning and Rebuilding and made it even worse. Now I have tons(520) of erros stating things like -- Error 179 The name 'datBirthDate' does not exist in the current context D:\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\MatrixReloaded\MatrixReloaded\Controls\Member\ucGeneral.cs 339 17 MatrixReloaded also if I try to open a form or user control in Design Mode I first get this -- could not find type, "MyType" please make sure that the assembly that contains this type is referenced and then, if I click Ignore and Continue I get this for all Forms and Contros when I try and look at them in Design Mode -- Exception of type System.OutOfMemoryException was thrown Help!?!? When I googled I came across mostly references to VS 2003...I am on 2008 sp1.

  Ok, so the title may trick you a bit, and I'm sorry for that but didn't find a better title. This question might be a bit hard to understand so I'll try my best. I have no idea how this works or if it is even possible but what I want to do is for example create a file type (lets imagine .test (in which a random file name would be random.test)). Now before I continue, its obviously easy to do this using for example: filename = "random.test" file = open(filename, 'w') file.write("some text here") But now what I would like to know is if it is possible to write the file .test so if I set it to open with a wxPython program, it recognizes it and for example opens up a Message Dialog automatically. I'm sorry if I'm being vague and in case you don't understand, let me know so I can try my best to explain you.

• Visual Studio Debugger Voodoo

  Ok, maybe this isn't so amazing considering I don't really understand how the debugger works in the first place, let alone Edit and Continue, which is totally amazing. But I was wondering if anyone knew what the debugger is doing with variable declarations in this scenario. I can be debugging through my code, move the line of execution ahead - past a variables initial declaration and assignment, and the code still runs ok. If it's a value type it will have it's default value, for a ref type, null. So if I create a function that uses a variable before it's declared it won't compile, but if I use the debugger to run it that way it will still run without error. Why is this? And is this related to the fact that you can't put a breakpoint on a declaration?

• Alternative databases to use when putting IIS Logs into a database using LogParser

  We have run some scripts that use LogParser to dump our IIS logs into a SQL Server database. We can then query this to get simple stats on hits, usage etc. It's also good when linking it to error log databases and performance counter database to compare usage with errors, etc. Having implemented this for just one system and for the last 2-3 weeks we already have a 5GB database with around 10 million records. This is making any queries to this database quite slow and will no doubt cause storage issues if we continue to log as we are. Can anyone suggest any alternative databases that we could use for this data that would be more efficient for such logs? I'd be particularly interested in any experience of Google's BigTable or Amazon's SimbleDB. Are either of these suitable for reporting queries? COUNTs, GROUP BYs, PIVOTs?

• C# WinForms: How to load an image, then wait a few seconds, then play a mp3 sound ?

  Hello everybody, (after pressing a button) i would like to show an image (using a picturebox), wait a few seconds and then play a mp3 sound, but i dont get it to work. To wait a few seconds i use "System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000)". The problem is, the image alway appears AFTER the wait time, but i want it to show first, then wait, then play the mp3... i tried to use "WaitOnLoad = true" but it doesnt work, shouldn't it load the image first and the continue to read the next code line ?? Here is the code i've tried, that doesnt work: private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { pictureBox1.WaitOnLoad = true; pictureBox1.Load("image.jpg"); System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000); MessageBox.Show("test"); //just to test, here should be the code to play the mp3 } (i also tried loading the image with "LoadAsync" and put the code to wait and play the mp3 in the "LoadCompleted" event, but that doesnt work either...) would be very nice if somebody helps me

  I'm compiling a simple program written in C and I'm using Eclipse as an IDE, both in Windows 7 and on my MacBook Pro. Very simple program my friend wrote and asked me to help him with: int a = 0; char b[2]; printf("Input first class info:\n"); printf("Credit Hours: \n"); scanf("%d", &a); printf("Letter Grade: "); scanf("%s", b); So when I run this on my mac, each line prints and when I encounter the scanf(), I can input and continue as expected. In Windows, I have to input everything and then it will print all the lines. I'm not sure why this is happening... what is the difference b/w Windows and Mac here? • Basic Login Script using php and mysql inquiry

  Attempting to write a check for a login script to see if the username is available. Would the best way to write this query be to check if isset(!_POST[]) for both values (nick and pass) then connect to database WHERE the mysql database for the usernick requested return the user id if the usernick exists evaluate if isset($id) to see if the user name is taken and use that to continue to creating an entry Does this logically sound like a method to check for login without using excessive code sorry for not posting the code, it is on another computer and this computer is locked down by my administrator at work... Also, is there another way to evaluate if a value exists in the database? For instance, instead of setting $id to the return value of the mysql database can i just ping the mysql database for the information and have it return a Boolean result so I am not putting out any user information.   Hello everyone: I am trying to analyze my agent results from a collection of 20 txt files here. If you wonder about the background info, please go see my page, what I am doing here is just one step. Basically I would like to take only my agent's result out of the messy context, so I've got this command for a single file: cat run15.txt | grep -A 50 -E '^Agent Name: agent10479475' | grep -B 50 '^==' This means : after the regex match, continue forward by 50 lines, stop, then match a line separator starts with "==", go back by 50 lines, if possible (This would certainly clash the very first line). This approach depends on the fact that the hard-coded line number counter 50, would be just fine to get exactly one line separator. And this would not work if I do the following code: cat run*.txt | grep -A 50 -E '^Agent Name: agent10479475' | grep -B 50 '^==' The output would be a mess... My question is: how to make sure grep knows exactly when to stop going forward, and when to stop getting backward? Any suggestion or hint is much appreciated.

  I am trying to track performance on some procedures that run too slow (and seem to keep getting slower). I am using v$session_longops to track how much work has been done, and I have a query (sofar/((v$session_longops.LAST_UPDATE_TIME-v$session_longops.start_time)*24*60*60)) that tells me the rate at which work is being done. What I'd like to be able to do is capture the rate at which work is being done and how it changes over time. Right now, I just re-execute the query manually, and then copy/paste to Excel. Not very optimal, especially when the phone rings or something else happens to interrupt my sampling frequency. Is there a way to have script in SQL*Plus run a query evern n seconds, spool the results to a file, and then continue doing this until the job ends? (Oracle 10g)

This is clear to everone here that the notice is correct, p is NOT a column, it is some data I am trying to insert. What is the problem here?

• Enhanced Podcasts and MPMoviePlayerViewController

  Hi, This is a bit of an odd/specific one - possibly a bug? I'm using MPMoviePlayerViewController to play a variety of files, including Enhanced Podcasts - these are audio files, but with a slideshow of images, often created using GarageBand. Until (i think) iOS 3.2 they weren't supported at all, now they are and play fine in the iPod app, but in my app the slideshow doesn't start, the full screen movie player opens, and the audio begins, but all I see is the QuickTime logo. If I scrub the track the pictures appear - and will continue to play correctly - but I see nothing if I don't scrub! Any ideas?? On a related note, these files also include a small rectangluar button containing an (i) button on the right hand side - anybody know what it is or should do?! It does nothing for me!
