  • Model Based Apps and Frameworks

    Having been involved (mostly as a user or observer) with several recent applications and frameworks, Ive come to the conclusion that building your app/framework on an internal model is generally the best way to go.  In this post Ill explain what I mean by on an internal model and later describe the benefits I have seen, realized, been told about by others and still others that Ive only imagined (but are still possible).  I plan on writing a few blog posts along these lines to explore what...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • retrieve data based on date range using mysql ,php [on hold]

    - by preethi
    I am working on WPF where I have two datepickers when I try to retrieve the information on date range it displays only one record on all dates(same record displaying multiple times eg : date chosen from 01/10/2013 - 3/10/2013) where I have 3 different records on each day but my output is the first record displayed 3 times with same date and time. function cpWhitelistStats() { $startDate = $_POST['startDate']; $startDateTime = "$startDate 00:00:00"; $endDate = $_POST['endDate']; $endDateTime = "$endDate 23:59:59"; $cpId = $_POST['id']; $cpName = etCommonCpNameById($cpId); print "<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Permitted Vehicle Summary</h2>"; print "<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">for $cpName</h2>"; $tmpDate = explode("/", $startDate); $startYear = $tmpDate[2]; $startMonth= $tmpDate[1]; $startDay = $tmpDate[0]; $tmpDate = explode("/", $endDate); $endYear = $tmpDate[2]; $endMonth= $tmpDate[1]; $endDay = $tmpDate[0]; $startDateTime = "$startYear-$startMonth-$startDay 00:00:00"; $endDateTime = "$endYear-$endMonth-$endDay 23:59:59"; $custId = $_SESSION['customerID']; $realCustomerId = $_SESSION['realCustomerId']; $maxVal = 0; if ($custId != "") { $conn = &newEtConn($custId); // Get the whitelist plates $staticWhitelistArray = etCommonMkWhitelist($conn, $cpId); array_shift($staticWhitelistArray); $startLoopDate = strtotime($startDateTime); $endLoopDate = strtotime($endDateTime); $oneDay = 60 * 60 * 24; // Get the entries $plateList = array_keys($staticWhitelistArray); $plate_lookup = implode('","', $plateList); $sql = "SELECT plate, entry_datetime, exit_datetime FROM stats WHERE plate IN (\"$plate_lookup\") AND entry_datetime > \"$startDateTime\" AND entry_datetime < \"$endDateTime\" AND carpark_id=\"$cpId\" "; $result = $conn->Execute($sql); if (!$result) { print $conn->ErrorMsg(); exit; } $rows = $result->fields; if ($rows != "") { unset($myArray); foreach($result as $values) { $plate = $values['plate']; $new_platelist[] = $plate; $inDateTime = $values['entry_datetime']; $outDateTime = $values['exit_datetime']; $tmp = explode(' ', $inDateTime); $inDate = $tmp[0]; $in_ts = strtotime($inDateTime); $out_ts = strtotime($outDateTime); $duration = $out_ts - $in_ts; $dur_array = intToDateArray($duration); $dur_string = ''; if ($dur_array['days'] > 0) { $dur_string .= $dur_array['days'] .   • Is there such a concept as "pseudo implementation" in software development?

    - by MachuPichu
    I'm looking for a label to describe the practice of using human-based computation methods or other means of "faking" an algorithm for the sake of getting a product or demo off the ground quickly without spending the time to develop an technical/scalable/analytical solution? Eg: using Amazon Turk to count the number of empty tables in a restaurant. I'm also looking to learn more about this subject, but not sure what to search for. Human-based computation is only one method, I'm interested in the general idea of pseudo-implementation. Any ideas, recommended reading? Thanks

  • Consuming OData based Rest service in C# [en-US]

    - by ruimachado
    Nowadays comunication between applications is an active topic with daily usage and a large amount of pratical appliances. While developing an app in witch I had to consume an OData I found out that combining Linq with my code made this operation pretty easy.The algorithm to consume OData starts with adding a service reference to Visual Studio:After adding the service reference in wich you define the uri to the service, we start building our code.In your code the algorithm is the following:Define the Uri to your OData ServiceDefine the context of your odata, wich contains all entities exposed by the service.Query the context using LinqPrint the resultEasy and simple.Example code:01public static void Main(string[] args){02 03        Uri serviceUri= newUri("http://example.host.odataservice.net/service.svc", UriKind.Absolute);04        ODataService.ServiceEntities context = newODataService.ServiceEntities (serviceUri);05 06        context.Credentials = newSystem.Net.NetworkCredential(Username,Password);07 08         var query = from ServiceObject in context.YourEntity09                     select ServiceObject ;10 11        foreach (var myObject in query)12        {13            Console.WriteLine("\n Field1: {0} | Field2: {1}",14            myObject .Field1, myObject .Field2);15 16        }17}That’s it.Thank you,Rui Machadorpmachado.wordpress.com

  • Exclude pages from search results based on device class (mobile/desktop)

    - by user32224
    We're currently building a new responsive website. While working on the site map, we figured that we don't want to show certain sections on mobile devices. This can be easily done by hiding the navigation parts using CSS/media queries. However, the trouble is that the hidden sites would still show up in search engine results. If a user happens to click on one of these links she might happen to see a badly formatted page as we'd use desktop/tablet only code to show images and video. Is there any way influence the search engines to exclude certain pages if the search is done on a mobile device? Do search engines crawl pages once or with a device specific view twice? Could we set a noindex meta tag for a specific device class?

  • Game programming and quantity of timers

    - by andresjb
    I've made a simple 2D game engine using C# and DirectX and it's fully functional for the demo I made to test it. I have a Timer object that uses QueryPerformanceCounter and I don't know what's the better choice: use only one timer in the game loop to update everything in the game, or an independent timer in every object that needs one. My worry is that when I try to implement threads, what will happen with timers? What happens with the sync?

  • jQuery event not working after load

    - by Shina
    $(document).ready(function(){ $(function() { $('a.ajaxload').live('click', function(e) { var url = $(this).attr('href'); $('#desktopcontainer').load(url); // load the html response into a DOM element e.preventDefault(); // stop the browser from following the link }); }); $(function() { $(".accordion .accordion-tabs .tab").each(function(){ $(this).click(function(){ if ($(this).hasClass('tab')){ $(this).removeClass('tab'); $(this).addClass('active'); }else{ $(this).removeClass('active'); $(this).addClass('tab'); } $(this).next().slideToggle('slow'); return false; }); }); }); }); My tab works fine but after I click the "a.ajaxload" to add a content to the page, then my tab doesn't respond anymore. Can anyone please tell me where the problem is? Thank you in advance.

  • What do you need to master a language and its technology? [closed]

    - by LongTTH
    Possible Duplicate: how to really master a programming language Let say about Java(just a sample, you can talk about C#, PHP, C++ ... it's just similar) and 10 (ten) levels, 1 is newbie and 10 is master. How can you identify someone at which level based on his knowledge? I do not tend to compare languages, I do tend to know what indicate a master or a newbie in a language and its (language's) based technology. Yeah, I know there aren't on earth a language stand alone, it always come with a technology with it. Let say in Java, you can memorize all of its keyword and syntax in just few days, but to know it (I mean do something with it effectively), you must read the Oracle (Sun) javadoc many many times (I'm not mention the 3rd party product yet).

  • What should I do with my programming project?

    - by rambodash
    I've been working on a top secret project that has potential of becoming very popular. No one has done anything like it. The problem is I have no motivation to finish it, and its about 70% done. I also don't have the ability to sell & market the product. The documentation is a pain to write. I just want to finish the project , receive my reward and move on to other things. I know that if I were to release it as a product I'm going to have to do support, and do bug fixes. No thank you! I've thought of making it open source but I'm failing to see the benefits. My hard work is just going to be up for grabs isn't it? How can I abandon my project whilst getting rewarded for the work I've done so far?

  • C# WPF to Embedded programming transition

    - by Cheltoonjr
    I've been learning C# .NET Framework for around 4-6 months (still starting) using some books, and have currently made my way up to Collections and Generics. I'll probably spend the next two months covering the rest up to LINQ and/or Garbage Collections. The thing is, I started to get interested in embedded systems and found out that you can use C# to code it through .NET MF, which mean I wouldn't have to learn C or C++. So, I would like to know if the knowledge I'll have by that time (2 months) will be enough to start working on Embedded (using C# .NET Micro Framework and Netduino) or I should probably see more about plain C# like Multithreading, async and other advanced features ? I want use embedded just as a hobby, at least by now, as I'll still have a long way through university. Although, I'll probably pick it as a career then. Thanks in advance!
