• use jquery autocomplete with carousel for preview and selection

  Hi, I've successfully used jquery autocomplete to display a list of matching images based on user input. The user experience isn't great though due to the number of potential matches - even with fairly prescriptive input. I've found this example at nokia http://www.nokia.co.uk/support/download-software/device-software-update (I know it's written in flash) which would provide the ideal interface for what I'm trying to achieve. Does anyone have any pointers for doing this using jquery autocomplete as a starting point? Or better still know of an existing javascript library that provides this functionality? I'm using the latest release of jquery if that matters. Thanks, Dave.

  How do you get aware of new tools (libraries, applications, etc)? This question is only about "getting aware" that some tool exist and could be used. Learning and trying is different issue. Right now I get most awareness from stackexchange and freshmeat sites. But I wonder if there are more efficient way. E.g. 80% of freshmeat projects are no-use for me, but it reasonable overhead, because tools that I find trough it save me days or even weeks. • Jquery - intercept links created by ajax request

  Hi, I have some jquery code that intercepts links clicked on a page : $(document).ready(function() { $("a").click(function() { //do something here }); }); My problem is there are certain parts of the page that have not finished loading on document ready. They are populated via ajax calls. The links in these sections are not intercepted by my jQuery function above. I need the function to be run on document ready initially but then I need the new links to also have the same logic applied to them. Any help would be very much appreciated. This is an area that I am very unfamiliar with. I have written the jQuery stuff but the ajax code is an external component that I have no control over. Thanks in advance

• DWR and Jquery into spring MVC 2.5

  Hi, From my shallow reading, Spring MVC does not support jquery directly. It does enable integration with DWR framework. From my understanding of DWR, it is an ajax framework that allows you to call javas methods from javascript. Can I use both in my application? With Jquery handling most of the javascript code and client side interaction and DWR making the ajax calls? I am leaning towards learning jquery but there is no out of the box support for it in spring 2.5.

  So I wanted to extend my laptop battery life. After googleing a lot I found many tips and tricks. Some even in this site as well. Then I found this package in synaptic as well laptop-mode-tools. Now I am not well aware of what harddrive spinoffs are, so I have a dilemma of installing this package as it seems to remove acpi support as well. So my question is, how reliable is this package in battery life extension and what configurations should I use with it ? Also I stumbled upon some posts saying spinoffs may kill the harddrive as well. So can anyone clearify with some configuration tips especially for laptop-mode-tools. Thanks in advance

Now I've got the problem, that people who use my plugin may have a different jQuery Version on their Wordpress Blogs, so what shall I do to manage that? • "Unable to install initrd-tools" error during installation.

  Was trying to install Ubuntu from a CD on a machine which already has windows on it, choose the option of "Resize IDE1 master (hda) and use freed space" during the "Install the base system" step. After that i get the error: Unable to install initrd-tools. An error was returned while trying to install the initrd-tools package into the target system. Check /target/var/log/bootstrap.log for details. The problem is one one hand i cannot proceed with the complete installation and on other hand if i remove the CD, am not able to boot windows as it says No bootable device. Would highly appreciate for any recommendations.

  I have a page with the following two divs: <div id="searchResults"> </div> <div class="postSearchOptions" style="display: none;"> </div> Is there any way that I can make the "postSearchOptions" div appear when the "searchResults" div is updated by an AJAX call? I don't control the AJAX calls and I want to detect any change in the "searchResults" div. I tried writing the following JQuery code, but then realized that it requires Jquery 1.4 and I only have 1.3: $("#searchResults").live("change", function() { $(".postSearchOptions").css("display", "inline"); }); Is there any way to catch the event of the searchResults div changing using either standard JavaScript or Jquery 1.3?   I have an onclick function that I want to add an anchor to the href value. I do not want to change the URL's, because I need the site to still function for people without javascript / for SEO purposes. so here is what I have tried using (amoung other things): jQuery('a[rel=ajax]').click(function () { jQuery(this).attr('href', '/#' + jQuery('a')); }); An orginal link looks like this: http://www.mysite.com/PopularTags/ URL re-write should look like this, so that AJAX will work: http://www.mysite.com/#PopularTags I was able to get some URL's to work by setting a links name value to the same as the href, but it did not work for links with sub-sections: http://www.mysite.com/Artist/BandName/ So not really sure.   When I install WMWare tools, I get this error for vmhgfs: /tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmhgfs-only/filesystem.c:47:28: fatal error: linux/smp_lock.h: No such file or directory compilation terminated. compilation terminated. make[2]: *** [/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmhgfs-only/filesystem.o] Error 1 make[1]: *** [_module_/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmhgfs-only] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-3.0.0-12-generic' make: *** [vmhgfs.ko] Error 2 make: Leaving directory `/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmhgfs-only' If you wish to have the shared folders feature, you can install the driver by running vmware-config-tools.pl again after making sure that gcc, binutils, make and the kernel sources for your running kernel are installed on your machine. These packages are available on your distribution's installation CD. And /mnt/hgfs is empty when sharing. If I run vmware-hgfsclient in a terminal, I get the list of shared folders but /mnt/hgfs is empty.

• Quick run through of the WP7 Developer Tools January 2011

  In case you haven’t heard the latest WP7 Developers Tool update was released yesterday and contains a few goodies. First you need to go and grab the bits here. You can install them in any order, but I installed the WindowsPhoneDeveloperResources_en-US_Patch1.msp first. Then the VS10-KB2486994-x86.exe. They install silently. In other words, you would need to check Programs and Features and look in Installed Updates to see if they installed successfully. Like the screenshot below: Once you get them installed you can try out a few new features. Like Copy and Paste. Just fire up your application and put a TextBox on it and Select the Text and you will have the option highlighted in red above the text. Once you select it you will have the option to paste it. (see red rectangle below). Another feature is the Windows Phone Capability Detection Tool – This tool detects the phone capabilities used by your application. This will prevent you from submitting an app to the marketplace that says it uses x feature but really does not. How do you use it? Well navigate out to either directory: %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v7.0\Tools\CapDetect %ProgramFiles (x86)%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v7.0\Tools\CapDetect and run the following command: CapabilityDetection.exe Rules.xml YOURWP7XAPFILEOUTPUTDIRECTORY So, in my example you will see my app only requires the ID_CAP_MICROPHONE. Let’s see what the WmAppManifest.xml says in our WP7 Project: Whoa! That’s a lot of extra stuff we don’t need. We can delete unused capabilities safely now. Some of the other fixes are: (Copied straight from Microsoft) Fixes a text selection bug in pivot and panorama controls. In applications that have pivot or panorama controls that contain text boxes, users can unintentionally change panes when trying to copy text. To prevent this problem, open your application, recompile it, and then resubmit it to the Windows Phone Marketplace. Windows Phone Connect Tool – Allows you to connect your phone to a PC when Zune® software is not running and debug applications that use media APIs. For more information, see How to: Use the Connect Tool. Updated Bing Maps Silverlight Control – Includes improvements to gesture performance when using Bing™ Maps Silverlight® Control. Windows Phone Developer Tools Fix allowing deployment of XAP files over 64 MB in size to physical phone devices for testing and debugging. That’s pretty much it. • Forumotion profile customization using jQuery based on URL

  The idea is have a jQuery snippet (I like Jquery...I can understand it better then regular javascript) that will detect that when it has been run on a profile with a url such as "http://customize.forum-motion.com/profile.forum?mode=viewprofile&u=1" (just as an example)...then upon detecting that it is a url of a profile...fetch data from a specific (and most likely hidden) element before wrapping that data in css tags and appending it to the heady of the current document. In short I'm trying to figure out how to make a sort of profile customization system where users can create their own css. The biggest problem I am having so far is figuring out how to make it so that the snippet can figure out what URL its being run on. Is there a function that can do this in jQuery at all?

Everything works perfect, but i'm not able to retrieve the array of tags that I added. • Test for empty jQuery selection result

  Say I do var s = $('#something'); and next I want to test if jQuery found #something, i.e. I want to test if s is empty. I could use my trusty isempty() on it: function isempty(o) { for ( var i in o ) return false; return true; } Or since jQuery objects are arrays, I suppose I could test s.length. But neither seem quite in the idiom of jQuery, not very jQueryesque. What do you suggest?
