    After I installed Ubuntu by using Windows installer for Ubuntu Desktop, I found that I can only run executable programs in the "Desktop" folder. In any other folders, when I typed in something like ./a.out, there appears a Permission Denied error. Also, in the "Properties" dialog box of the file I want to execute, the box of "allow executing file as a program" cannot be chosen if the file is not in the Desktop folder. What should I type in the terminal to fix the problem?

  • How can I only load up the terminal via grub then upgrade

    So after the upgrade I made last night I can't load up the GUI properly. I have a feeling the upgrade died half way through. Grub is working. All the kernals are listed. That being said how can I: A) Make grub load into terminal only. No gui. B) How can I reinstall gnome? C) How can I try to install the upgrade for ubuntu again? It may or may not let me "do-release-upgrade". So what are my options here? Thanks!

  • Cannot access Windows via grub after new dual-boot Ubuntu install

    I previously installed Ubuntu on a computer that had Windows XP on it and got it successfully to run alongside it. (access both OS systems) Now I installed Ubuntu again on my MSI notebook with Windows 8.1, and I cannot access the GRUB without hitting escape on startup, and even then, I can no longer open windows. Before all of this, I created a recovery point, file history and saved a back up on a external hard drive incase I did anything wrong. Now how can I revert my computer back to it's state before installation.

    I would like to create a non-VBA based solution to the following question: How do I create a multi-series chart that will allow a user to select from a dropdown to change the data being graphed? I can do this already when the data series is contiguous; however, I'd like to be able to do it for non-contiguous data. Is this possible?   • Design suggestion for expression tree evaluation with time-series data

    I have a (C#) genetic program that uses financial time-series data and it's currently working but I want to re-design the architecture to be more robust. My main goals are: sequentially present the time-series data to the expression trees. allow expression trees to access previous data rows when needed. to optimize performance of the data access while evaluating the expression trees. keep a common interface so various types of data can be used. Here are the possible approaches I've thought about: I can evaluate the expression tree by passing in a data row into the root node and let each child node use the same data row. I can evaluate the expression tree by passing in the data row index and letting each node get the data row from a shared DataSet (currently I'm passing the row index and going to multiple synchronized arrays to get the data). Hybrid: an immutable data set is accessible by all of the expression trees and each expression tree is evaluated by passing in a data row. The benefit of the first approach is that the data row is being passed into the expression tree and there is no further query done on the data set (which should increase performance in a multithreaded environment). The drawback is that the expression tree does not have access to the rest of the data (in case some of the functions need to do calculations using previous data rows). The benefit of the second approach is that the expression trees can access any data up to the latest data row, but unless I specify what that row is, I'll have to iterate through the rows and figure out which one is the last one. The benefit of the hybrid is that it should generally perform better and still provide access to the earlier data. It supports two basic "views" of data: the latest row and the previous rows. Do you guys know of any design patterns or do you have any tips that can help me build this type of system? Should I use a DataSet to hold and present the data, or are there more efficient ways to present rows of data while maintaining a simple interface? FYI: All of my code is written in C#.

For example, if I want to display 10 images and apply a class to only the first image, how would I go about it?     I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and installed the red5-server package. I've also downloaded oflaDemo.war file from that address. First I tried to install the oflaDemo via installer, but I couldnt reach the goal. I see the .war file under the /tmp directory, I got stuck with this message: "This may take a couple minutes, please wait". After that, I put the downloaded war file into the /webapps directory and wait 10 minutes as mentioned in red5-common.xml. Unfortunately, nothing changed ... So I decided to extract war file manually. I did this: jar -xvf oflaDemo.war Ok, I see all of the unzipped content under the webapps directory, but how can I preview the demo via a web browser? I really need to make live stream via Red5. Please help me.

  • Tomcat cookies not working via my ProxyPass VirtualHost

    Hi there. I'm having some issues with getting cookies to work when using a ProxyPass to redirect traffic on port 80 to a web-application hosted via Tomcat. My motivation for enabling cookies is to get rid of the "jsessionid=" parameter that is appended to the URLs. I've enabled cookies in my context.xml in META-INF/ for my web application. When I access the webapplication via http://url:8080/webapp it works as expected, the jsessionid parameter is not visible in the URL, instead it's stored in a cookie. When accessing my website via an apache2 virtualhost the cookies doesn't seem to work because now "jsessionid" is being appended to the URLs. How can I solve this issue?   • Ubuntu VM Guest - Samba Service Not Accessible from VM Host via Hostname

    I have a Windows 7 Workstation with a Ubuntu 10.10 VM running in Virtual Box 3.2.12 r68302. I recently updated Samba and winbind, and since the update, I am unable to access the machine via it's hostname (\mystique) from the VM Host. I can access it by the "Host-only" IP (\192.168.56.101) and the DHCP Assigned IP address (\10.1.1.20) and I can connect to the webserver on the machine via it's hostname (http://mystique/). As stated, accessing this machine via it's hostname worked fine prior to the update, but has since stopped working. I have added the hostname to the smb.conf for the netbios name, to no avail.   • HDD is not recognized/initialized via USB, only via SATA - is a reformat through USB a bad idea?

    I have a 4TB Hitachi HDD that I purchased in Europe (I use it as a backup disk); I use Windows 7. When I connect it to a SATA port, it is recognized in Windows Explorer and gives no problems, even after transferring 3TB at a time or after being on for days. When I connect it via a SATA-to-USB2.0 adapter, it is also recognized, but when I transfer a large amount of data, it will intermittently stop being recognized by Windows Explorer and cancel the transfer. When I connect it via an external enclosure (which is technically a SATA-to-USB3.0 adapter), it does not display at all in Windows Explorer, but Disk Management will show the drive, albeit uninitialized (prompts for format). I only got the external enclosure because I want to backup my files more conveniently (instead of having to open the computer case each time). Do you advise against reformat/initialization via the external enclosure? Can it screw up things in an irrevocable way (Master Boot Record etc.)?

  • Error with FTP since binding via httpcfg

    I was in a similar posistion to this question and bound two IP addresses using httpcfg. Since doing this ftp does not seem to be working on IIS6 in Windows Server 2003. Any ideas what could be wrong? The command I ran was: httpcfg set iplisten -i xxx.xxx.x.x I get the following when I try to conenct via Filezilla: Error: Connection timed out Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing The log file is returning the following: #Software: Microsoft Internet Information Services 6.0 #Version: 1.0 #Date: 2009-08-17 13:54:05 #Fields: date time c-ip cs-username cs-method cs-uri-stem sc-status sc-win32-status 2009-08-17 13:54:05 91.85.70.17 Client [1]USER Client 331 0 2009-08-17 13:54:05 91.85.70.17 Client [1]PASS - 230 0 In the ftp site settings I have the site pointing to the IP address used using httpcfg and the port set to 21. Update: I can see a directory listing if I connect via the inbuilt commandline ftp client in wondows vista. If I try to connect via a windows explorer I start in the incorrect folder and no files are listed just directories.

    my title might not be very clear, but I'll explain my setup in more detail now. We have several customers (companies) that need to be remotely supported. At these customers we have servers running with our software that needs to be serviced. These servers are (almost) never connected to the internet. For this we have multiple PC's running VPN clients. These PC's run a VNC server so our service engineers can login from their home laptop remotely to these PC's and connect from there to our customer via the VPN connection on the PC. The problem is however that several customers do not allow split tunneling. That means that when we connect via VPN to such a customer the VNC connection drops. Our current workaround is using a Citrix VM which we control via XenCenter console, but it's quite slow. Are there common solutions to handle this?

    Description of project- I have a test tool to which DUT connects. The test tool has an access point in it and once DUT get connected to it via mac address we check RSSI and some other features of WiFi of DUT. Now I am wondering is there is any way I can measure throughput of Device under test via mac address of DUT from server side. Test-tool has LINUX fedora 11 in it and major coding is done in c/C++ and json command. Previously, I have tried to install ftp server on test-tool and DUT can connect to it and we can measure the throughput or data transfer rate, but this is not feasible solution as it requires lot of intervention from DUT. What I am interested in is 1) To run some script on server side /test tool and it gives me throughput of bandwidth of connected device may be via mac address of DUT OR 2) Server script transfer some files/packets to DUT and we can measure the throughput. Coding is not a major challenge at this stage , I just need some tool which requires minimum intervention from DUT.

    I am trying to connect via pgAdmin3 GUI to a Postgresql database on a remote server myHost on port 5432. Server side : I have a Unix myUser that match a postgresql role. pg_hba.conf is : local all all trust host all all 127.0.0.1/32 trust Client side : I open an ssh tunnel : ssh -L 3333:myHost:5432 myUser@myHost I connect to the server via pgAdmin3 ( or via psql -h localhost -p 3333 ). I get the following error message : server closed the connection unexpectedly This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request. I have tried to access a specific database with the superuser role using psql -h localhost -p 3333 --dbname=myDB --user=mySuperUser with no more success. What did I forget in the setup ? Thank you

    I need to copy a file from a Windows 2003 server to a WebDAV folder (on the same server, if it matters). This operation will be performed via a batch script executed via Scheduled Tasks. I've enabled the WebClient service on the server. So far I've determined that I can do it like this: net use x: http://host/path copy c:\path\myfile.txt x: net use x: /delete 1) Is there a simpler way than creating a temporary mapped drive? Will it work via a batch file when no user is logged in? 2) Is there anything I should know about enabling the WebClient service on my server? Previously it was disabled, which I assume is default.

  • Some $_SERVER parameters missing when accessing PHP script via Cron

    I have a script that I need to run with PHP via cron. The original author of the script made a lot of user of certain $_SERVER parameters (like REQUEST_URI). But it appears that certain variables don't exist when running PHP via command line or via CRON. For example, there is no request uri, so it makes sense that the REQUEST_URI parameter wouldn't be available. Is there any way around this other than to completely rewrite the script in order to avoid using special $_SERVER parameters that aren't universally available?

    When trying to access the DNS service on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (Build 3790) domain controller/schema master via the MMC DNS snap in or locally via the DNS MMC from Administrative tools I'm getting a red "X" through the icon for the DNS Server. The inability to access DNS management via MMC happens on all domain controllers as well. We've looked at items such as the DHCP client not being started, incorrect DNS setup ( the machine points at itself and another DC ), the DNS service not running ( it is and all DNS queries via NSLOOKUP work correctly ), dslint returns the correct information and functions as expected. There is the following entry in the DNS event log: The DNS server could not initialize the remote procedure call (RPC) service. If it is not running, start the RPC service or reboot the computer. The event data is the error code.
