  • UISearchDisplayController's full-screen background intercepts touch events in iOS 7

    I have a UITableview that doesn't take up the whole screen (screenshot). Everything worked fine in iOS 6. But in iOS 7, when the user searches, the search result table takes up the whole view (screenshot). To fix this, I tried setting the frame manually as described in this answer. The appearance is now correct (screenshot), but now the "<" button in the top left doesn't receive tap events when the search results table is displayed. It seems the searchResultsTableView is adding a full-screen background view that is intercepting touch events. To prove this, I added this code to didShowSearchResultsTableView: controller.searchResultsTableView.superview.backgroundColor = [UIColor blueColor];` This screenshot confirms my hypothesis. How can I fix this to allow the "<" button to receive tap events? I want to avoid modifying controller.searchResultsTableView.superview so that my change doesn't break in future versions of iOS. And what change in iOS 7 caused this behavior to start happening?

  • Decoding a jpg in the background in WP7

    I have a bunch of apps in the marketplace, and so far I have been able, by changing my functionality or going the extra mile, to work around the issue of being unable to decode a jpg in the background into a WriteableBitmap. I am finding a situation where I can't think of good ways to "work around" the issue. I need to decode the image I get from MediaLibrary, reduce it's resolution to something managable (800x800), rotate it potentially and save to local storage. By far, the thing that takes the most time (80%) is decoding the bitmap to 800x800 - it takes between 700ms to 1000 ms. A user may add 7-10 images when starting, which translates to ~10 seconds of waiting for the images being added. I tried doing this lazily, but at some point you need to pay the piper and the app essentially stutters for ~1000ms at that point and the experience is not great. Is there an alternative I am missing for loading the image in the background somehow? (Note on why CreateOptions.BackgroundCreation is no good for me: It loads the image into a BitmapImage which is great if you want to just use it, but not so great for what I need to do which is create a copy in Isolated Storage).

  • MediaElement seems to disable lock screen when playing a video

    I am working on an application that plays a video using the MediaElement component. Now, I would like that if the user is idle, the lock screen appears, as configured by the user in the Settings of the device. If I don't play a video, the lock screen indeed appears. But, when a video is playing no lock screen appears. I cannot find any information on this. Currently I set the idle detection modes like this: PhoneApplicationService.Current.ApplicationIdleDetectionMode = IdleDetectionMode.Enabled; PhoneApplicationService.Current.UserIdleDetectionMode = IdleDetectionMode.Enabled; I am a bit lost now. The only solution I can think of is running a timer myself and stop the video playback after a certain time. (but there seems to be no API calls to receive the configured lock timeout.) Any suggestions are welcome, thanks.

When I run it it hangs on using (Stream postStream = request.EndGetRequestStream(asynchronousResult)) If I comment out the requestState.Wait.WaitOne(); line the code executes correctly but obviously doesn't wait for the response. I'm guessing the the call to EndGetRequestStream is somehow returning me to the context of the main thread??   • page cannot be found error on Facebook login on my WP and iPhone app

    This is happening to me since last 2 days. Earlier, successful login redirected to my app and I was able to proceed. Now I get this error page.     I am attempting to hash and keep(the hash) an object of type IEnumerable<anotherobject> which has about a 1000 entries. I'll be generating another such object, but this time I'd like to check for any changes in the values of the entries using the hash codes of the two objects. Basically, I was wondering if GetHashCode() is apt for this, both from a performance perspective and reliability perspective (getting different values for different object values and same values for same object values, always). If I have to override it, what would be a good way to do so, does it always depend on the type of anotherobject and what Equals means when comparing two anotherobjects? Is there a generic way to do it? This concern is because my object can be quite big.

    I taken two Images & added event (MouseButtonDown) for them. When first image handles event to open Gallery. Second image handles events for open camera. When user has choosed his image from the gallery, I want to navigate to next page. Its navigates. But before completing navigation process, it displays MainPage & then moves toward next page. I didnt want to display the MainPage once user chooses the image from the gallery. Plz help.   • WP7/silverlight Images does not stay within a grid/stackpanel when using the toolkit to provide gesture support

    I have few buttons and below that I am displaying an image and have used the WP7/Silverlight toolkit to provide support for Gestures. Everything works fine, until i do gestures like pinch and then moving it up/down. Both these gestures work fine but they do not seem to respect the stackpanel/grid the image is present in and they go over that and on top of the buttons. Do u know how to restrict these? Inside the DataTemplate, I can bind stuff to properties of Items, but how do I get access to DetailsVisiblity which is a property of DataContext?     I am looking for an example of how to use the new DataServiceState Save and Restore methods in a WP7 application in order to tombstone a datacontext - I cannot find any examples and the approach I used resulted in an exception this saves the data context correctly PhoneApplicationService.Current.State["DataContext"] = DataServiceState.Save(this.Model.Entities); this attempts to restore it after the app is re-activated var dc = (PhoneApplicationService.Current.State["DataContext"] as DataServiceState).Restore(); but throws an exception An item could not be added to the collection. When items in a DataServiceCollection are tracked by the DataServiceContext, new items cannot be added before items have been loaded into the collection. This is the same exception I get if I try to reload a datacontext that I stored "directly" (without using the DataServiceState.Save method) in the PhoneApplicationService.Current.State. I cannot find any offical documentation on the new ODATA v2 DataServiceState class or examples. thanks Michael

  • WP7 - group of textboxes into some sort of template?

    I'm still pretty new at Silverlight so there might be a way to do this, but I'm just unfamiliar with the terminology... I basically have this grouping of textboxes and textblocks and I would like to repeat this same grouping whenever the addNew button is clicked. Is there a way to do this by creating some sort of template?     I have been using the NavigationService's Navigate method to navigate to other pages in my WP7 Silverlight app: NavigationService.Navigate(new Uri("/Somepage.xaml?val=dreas", UriKind.Relative)); From Somepage.xaml, I then retrieve the query string parameters as follows: string val; NavigationContext.QueryString.TryGetValue("val", out val); I now need a way to pass a complex object using a similar manner. How can I do this without having to serialize the object every time I need to pass it to a new page?

  • Design advices for quick navigation between view

    Usually, when a View requires a lot of bindings, or some UI Elements like a Bing Map, it takes a "while" to load (like between half a second and a second). I don't want a delay between a "tap" action (like tapping an element on a ListBox) and the navigation action (displaying a new page). I don't mind displaying the page progressively. For example, for a Bing Map, I don't mind displaying a black page with only a title, and a second later, having the Map appear. What are the best practices ? It could post a sample if i'm not clear enough

  • WP7 - Cancelling ContextMenu click event propagation

    I'm having a problem when the Silverlight toolkit's ContextMenu is clicked while it is over a UIElement that has registered a Tap event GestureListener. The context menu click propagates to the underlying element and fires its tap event. For instance, say I have a ListBox and each ListBoxItem within it has registered both a ContextMenu and a Tap GestureListener. Assume that clicking context menu item2 is supposed to take you to Page1.xaml, while tapping on any of ListBox items themselves is supposed to take you to Page2.xaml. If I open the context menu on item1 in the ListBox, then context menu item2 is on top of ListBox item2. When I click on context menu item2 I get weird behavior where the app navigates to Page1.xaml and then immediately to Page2.xaml because the click event also triggered the Tap gesture for ListBox item2. I've verified in the debugger that it is always the context menu that receives the click event first. How do I cancel the context menu item click's routed event propagation so it doesn't reach ListBox item2? Thanks for your help!

  • How to pass a value between Silverlight pages for WP7?

    I've got a MainPage.xaml page a Detail.xaml page. I've passed variables to the Detail.xaml from MainPage.xaml by using a static variable and referencing it in Detail.xaml (the detail page is acting like a dialog). However once I've updated the content of another object, I want to call a method in MainPage.xaml to refresh the content of that page using the updated object from the Detail.xaml page. I assume I am not using the correct paradigm for this and should probably be using MVVM or something but I'm not familiar with the implementation and was hoping there was a simple way to do this?
