  • PC has a mind of it's own.

    When I put my PC into standby, sometimes it randomly awakes, scaring me and waking me up. What could be causing this. No it is not my mouse moving, it can only be powered back on by the power button. It's really strange.

  • Photoshop 5.5 won't start after upgrading to windows 7 from vista

    I have photoshop 5.5 working just fine under windows vista, I upgraded my PC to windows 7 and when I start photoshop 5.5 it just hangs. I see the main screen open but nothing happens and I just get the busy sign out of the mouse pointer, with Photoshop not completing the start. I searched online and some reported the same issue and were able to solve the issue by deleting Photoshop setting or preference file. I did that, but still the issue is present.

  • Windows 7 Virtual PC + Linux Ubuntu

    I've installed Ubuntu inside a virtual machine running on Windows 7's Virtual PC. One thing I've noticed right away is that it has to capture the mouse and not all the hardware works as expected. I didn't have such problems in my virtual Windows XP. Is there anything I need to do to either Virtual PC or within Ubuntu that will get them to cooperate as well as Windows XP seems to?

  • Explorer.exe doesn't start automatically on Boot

    For some reason when I boot my laptop now (winxp), it doesn't start explorer.exe automatically; I'm left with a desktop background and a mouse pointer. I have to run taskman and start explorer.exe manually. Recently I had Spyware Dr. detect a severe threat, and I was wondering if there was anyway to re-hookup explorer.exe on startup.

  • Capture screen with fixed region

    I would like to know if there is a systematical way (software) to capture a fixed region on the screen, under Windows 7 or OS X. It must be accurate about the region. I always want to capture the region with left-top coordinate (300, 300) and right-bottome coordinate (800, 800). So I can't not select the region by mouse myself. A software to do this capture should let me to input the 2 coordinates.

  • Firefox on-screen buttons disappearing

    Firefox 8.0.1 ALL the on-sceen buttons on ALL sites have disappeared. I'm not talking about the toolbar buttons, I'm talking about buttons like NEXT and BACK and CONTINUE and PAY and GO TO BASKET and CONTACT US that should appear in varous parts of the screenh. Sometimes they are still visable (and clickable) as text, but in other cases they have disappeared entirely, although a click symbol still appears if you can guess where they are and mouse over them.

  • Photoshop: left-handed copy/paste?

    Being left-handed, I use the mouse in my left hand. In most applications I use CTRL+INSERT/SHIFT+INSERT to copy and paste (with my right hand). For some bone-headed reason, this is not supported in Photoshop, so I have to use right-click COPY sub-menus, which is a lot slower. Is there a way to configure Photoshop to use CTRL+INSERT to copy and SHIFT+INSERT to paste?

  • Japanese keyboard layout in Windows 7 doesn't correspond to what's written on the physical keyboard

    I have an English version of Windows 7, but my keyboard is Japanese. However, even though I choose a Japanese keyboard (Microsoft IME) under Keyboard and Languages, the layout isn't right. I think it's English layout, but I can't be sure. Anyway, I want the layout and usage to be exactly like it is on a Japanese Windows 7, as there are some nice (mouse free) shortcuts to change between input modes. Any suggestions?

  • Xinerama 3 displays can't have main display in the middle

    I have 3 monitors running on 2 cards, they are all working as 3 seperate displays, however, if i move the main display from the left (0,0) i cannot drag to the left window as the mouse goes crazy and crashes my system (i have to restart x) I would much prefer my main display to be in the centre.     Is there a way to have Silverlight automatically install updates without user interaction? I'm running Boxee on a Mac Mini, and I make heavy use of the Netflix app. However, when I start watching a Netflix movie or TV show, Silverlight often tells me "There is an update to Silverlight available, do you want to install it?" I have to start up Screen Sharing or plug in a mouse to click "OK" and continue. I'd rather just update Silverlight automatically without user interaction.

  • Moving SQL Server databases from one drive to another?

    I have a SQL Server 2008 R2 on my machine which stores everything on the C: drive (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA). I got an additional Hard Drive now and would like to move all the databases over. It's 26 databases, so I'd like to avoid manually disconnecting/reconnecting them. Ideally I would just like to move them from C: and D: and tell SQL Server to look there. Downtime is not an issue, I just don't want to do dozens of mouse clicks :)

If there is a text box on the page that I want to enter text into, how can I navigate to that field quickly without actually clicking on it with the mouse?   • Pasting a download link into google chrome

    When I want to download something in Safari, like http://foo.com/bar.zip, all I have to do is paste that link into the dowloads window. Is there a way to do this in Chrome? I've gotten used to Safari, hitting cmd-alt-L (dowloads window), and then pasting. It's quick, neat, and saves me going to FileSave As... I like to keep my hands on the keyboard, so if there is a quick way to do this without using a mouse, that's my ideal solution.

    At work I've 4 different computers connected using a keyboard/video/mouse switch. Quite often when I switch to windows vista the resolution is totally wrong and I need to get the screen properties dialog, change to another wrong resolution (because the fun part is that the apparently current resolution listed in the dialog is the correct one) then re-switch to the correct resolution. I would really like to just shut that broken resolution autodetection code off. Is there a way to disable screen resolution autodetection in Windows Vista?

A:A is what I need the name of the file to be. B:2 is the content I need in the text file. So, A2 - "repair-video-game-Glassboro-NJ-08028.txt" is the file name and B2 to be the content in the file. Next, A3 is the file name and B3 is the content for the file, etc. ONCE the content reads what is in cell A16 and B16 (length will vary), the file creation should stop, if not then I can delete the additional files created. This sheet will never change. Is there a way to establish the excel macro to always go to this sheet instead of have to select it with the mouse to identify the starting point? 2nd Objective I would like to have the following data to be used to create a text file. A:1 is what I need the name of the file to be. B:B is the content I want in the file. So, A2 - is the file name "geo-sitemap.xml" and B:B to be the content in the file (ignore the .xml file extension in the photo). ONCE the content cell reads what is in cell "B16" (length will vary), the file creation should stop, if not then I can adjust the cells that have need content (formulated content you see in the image is preset for 500 rows). I can Provide the content in the cells that are filled in by excel formulas that are not not to be included in the .txt files. It is ok if it is not possible. I can delete the extra cells that are not populated (based on the data sheet). Please let me know if you need any more additional information or clarity and I will be happy to provide it.
