• Draw Bug 2D player Camera

  I have just implemented a 2D player camera for my game, everything works properly except the player on the screen jitters when it moves between tiles. What I mean by jitter, is that if the player is moving the camera updates the tileset to be drawn and if the player steps to the right, the camera snaps that way. The movement is not smooth. I'm guessing this is occurring because of how I implemented the function to calculate the current viewable area or how my draw function works. I'm not entirely sure how to fix this. This camera system was entirely of my own creation and a first attempt at that, so it's very possible this is not a great way of doing things. My camera class, pulls information from the current tileset and calculates the viewable area. Right now I am targettng a resolution of 800 by 600. So I try to fit the appropriate amount of tiles for that resolution. My camera class, after calculating the current viewable tileset relative to the players location, returns a slice of the original tileset to be drawn. This tileset slice is updated every frame according to the players position.   I've been having numerous problems with connectivity through WiFi. It had been working for a few days and now it doesn't. On top of that around 40% of every time I turn on the laptop it shows "System running in low-graphics" error and I'm unable to view the desktop (sometimes not even able to access terminal), therefore having to manually power-down until it finally works. • Coding events. What they actually are about, and are they worth it?

  I'm a relatively new programmer, but am very much interested in it. I enrolled to this coding event (Yahoo! Hack India, to be precise), and got invited after the pre-coding contest. The event is like a contest where developers create an application in 24 hours, In group or individually. I've never been to such an event before, and certainly don't know anyone who did. So, here are my questions. First of all, is it worth it? What if we don't get any ideas in the first place to start with? I'm not actually a developer, I'm an electrical engineering student who just completed his 2nd semester. So will be able to match up to the level of other developers who will be there?   I upgraded my Ubuntu 10.10 for Ubuntu 12.04. I have a Emachines E625 With Ubuntu 12.04 my wireless always disconnects every 10 sec. It didn't do that with 10.10. • Steps to rebuild gspca_kinect driver module?

  I recently purchased a Kinect for Windows and quickly discovered that the camera drivers included in linux kernel 3.0+ aren't compatible with the Kinect for Windows hardware revision. After looking at the source code it seems like a tiny modification is all that is required for compatibility, so I've been trying to recompile the driver - to no avail. I've been referring to this article and this one as well, though they are a bit outdated. When I try to compile the module, I get an error because the header file "gspca.h" can't be found in the include path. I located the missing header in my filesystem, but the file itself is empty. I've also tried downloading the kernel source (3.2.0-24-generic), which allowed me to compile the module, but when I load the module I get an error. -1 Unknown symbol in module Is there a standard way to go about this without first building the kernel? Will building the kernel ensure that I can build the module? Thanks

• Best options for freelance or part-time programming? [closed]

A few years back I was all set to study computer science and get a job programming, but went a totally different route and went into healthcare. I currently work as a paramedic on a rotating 24/48 schedule, so I have two days off for every day I work, and a decent bit of downtime on the days that I do work. I've been looking at ways to earn some extra money with all that spare time, and was wondering if it'd be worth the effort to try and find a part-time/freelance gig. I know HTML/CSS, PHP, and I'm pretty familiar with Python and Ruby (and Rails). Anyways, was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction as what "skill set" would give me the best chance to be able to land a part-time/freelance gig. I realize this is a rather open-ended question but any direction is appreciated.

  I am working on a website that requires a bit of marketing; let me explain. This website is offering a single, say, iTunes 50$ voucher to a lucky winner. To be entered in the draw, you need to invite (and has to join) at least one friend to the website. Pretty straightforward. Now, of course it would be easy for anyone to just create a fake account and invite that account so, I was thinking of some other way to somehow find out of possible cheating. I was thinking of an IP check on the newly subscribed (invited) user, and if there is the same IP logged in the last 24 hours, and if that's the case, investigate more about it. But I was thinking that maybe there is a more clever way around this issue. Has anyone ever though about this? What other solutions did you try? Thanks in advance.

• Wordpress : Automatically transfer media files to Amazon S3

  I've been using VPS to host 7 Wordpress websites, most of them require big storage but very little RAM and traffic. So I'm thinking of moving the static files(uploads folder) content to Amazon S3 and I'm looking for the most viable solution to this. I want every website to have their own bucket and newly uploaded media files automatically uploaded to Amazon S3 without using plugin. I'm ok with cron job, for example the files were uploaded first to my server, then transferred to S3 and deleted from my server every 24 hour. Or is there any way for me to change the default upload directory to my S3 bucket without sacrificing any Wordpress functionality(resize/title etc)? What do you think the most efficient way to do this? Currently I'm looking at this plus cron job but I would like to know better option if it exist.

  Today I installed nut on my Ubuntu server (14.03). $ uname -a Linux boson 3.13.0-24-generic #47-Ubuntu SMP Fri May 2 23:30:00 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux The UPS is connected to another server (called neutron), so I use nut-client to keep tabs on the UPS state. When I do sudo upsc [email protected] I get: Init SSL without certificate database battery.charge: 15 battery.charge.low: 10 battery.charge.warning: 50 battery.date: not set battery.mfr.date: 2012/11/27 : The first line of the output concerns me. I've not seen this on other installations of nut on Debian-based servers. What can I do to get rid of that line? EDIT: This "Init SSL without certificate database" is extra annoying because it is not part of the output of upsc and therefore I cannot grep it out.

The problem is that the surround noise changes, just those distinct voice patterns remain. I marked the voice patterns for clarity: http://i.stack.imgur.com/eLkBl.png What could an algorithm look like / a workflow in adobe audition look like that removes everything but the voice patterns? I think that the main characteristic is the line-shaped form over time. Loudness alone is not enough as the noise is loud aswell.

• Upgrade php5-gd on 12.04?

  I'm working with the GD library for image manipulation, to which I need to create some transparent PNGs. Instead, I'm getting a black background. I've looked everywhere on how to generate a blank, transparent PNG canvas with it and all the answers just don't work for me. On further inspection, I'm working with an old GD version: The functions needed to create a transparent PNG requires 2.0.1 altough 2.0.28 or later is recommended. I installed php5-gd with apt-get, and aptitude haven't found new packages. Do I have to add a new PPA? Where can I find it? What about forcing a version? Thanks in advance!

• Environment font size is too small

  So I've chosen a font by System Settings - Application Appearance - Fonts And there I've adjusted all fonts to be of 14th size. And also checked "Use my KDE fonts..." in Gtk+ appearance. I've also did the same using kdesudo systemsettings But still some fonts are tiny! It's not the 14th size! Edit 2: I thought it might be one of Gnome font settings. So I've increased all fonts in gnome-tweak-tool sudo gnome-tweak-tool gconf-editor sudo gconf-editor No help! Edit: Ubuntu tweak also gives no help (note the tiny fonts!): Edit: It looks like the problem is with gtk3: when I compile emacs 24.0.92 with gtk3 - i get small menu fonts. When I do the same with a default gtk2 - everything is all right.

Configuring the Data Nodes The configuration of data node threads can be managed in two ways via the config.ini file: - Simply set MaxNoOfExecutionThreads to the appropriate number of threads to be run in the data node, based on the number of threads presented by the processors used in the host or VM. - Use the new ThreadConfig variable that enables users to configure both the number of each thread type to use and also which CPUs to bind them too. The flexible configuration afforded by the multi-threaded data node enhancements means that it is possible to optimise data nodes to use anything from a single CPU/thread up to a 48 CPU/thread server. Co-locating the MySQL Server with a single data node can fully utilize servers with 64 – 80 CPU/threads. It is also possible to co-locate multiple data nodes per server, but this is now only required for very large servers with 4+ CPU sockets dense multi-core processors. 24 Threads and Beyond! An example of how to make best use of a 24 CPU/thread server box is to configure the following: - 8 ldm threads - 4 tc threads - 3 recv threads - 3 send threads - 1 rep thread for asynchronous replication. Each of those threads should be bound to a CPU. It is possible to bind the main thread (schema management domain) and the IO threads to the same CPU in most installations. In the configuration above, we have bound threads to 20 different CPUs. We should also protect these 20 CPUs from interrupts by using the IRQBALANCE_BANNED_CPUS configuration variable in /etc/sysconfig/irqbalance and setting it to 0x0FFFFF. The reason for doing this is that MySQL Cluster generates a lot of interrupt and OS kernel processing, and so it is recommended to separate activity across CPUs to ensure conflicts with the MySQL Cluster threads are eliminated. When booting a Linux kernel it is also possible to provide an option isolcpus=0-19 in grub.conf. The result is that the Linux scheduler won't use these CPUs for any task. Only by using CPU affinity syscalls can a process be made to run on those CPUs. By using this approach, together with binding MySQL Cluster threads to specific CPUs and banning CPUs IRQ processing on these tasks, a very stable performance environment is created for a MySQL Cluster data node. On a 32 CPU/Thread server: - Increase the number of ldm threads to 12 - Increase tc threads to 6 - Provide 2 more CPUs for the OS and interrupts. - The number of send and receive threads should, in most cases, still be sufficient. On a 40 CPU/Thread server, increase ldm threads to 16, tc threads to 8 and increment send and receive threads to 4. On a 48 CPU/Thread server it is possible to optimize further by using: - 12 tc threads - 2 more CPUs for the OS and interrupts - Avoid using IO threads and main thread on same CPU - Add 1 more receive thread. Summary As both this and the previous post seek to demonstrate, the multi-threaded data node extensions not only serve to increase performance of MySQL Cluster, they also enable users to achieve significantly improved levels of utilization from current and future generations of massively multi-core, multi-thread processor designs. • DHCP won't start / subnetting

  I recently changed the IP address on an Ubuntu 12.04 server I have in my lab, which is running isc-dhcp-server. After doing so and modifying the dhcpd.conf file, my dhcp service would not start. I basically used the same configuration, except I modified everything to use /25 scopes rather than /24. When I try to start / restart the service, I see the following: MY@ubuntuserver:~$ sudo service isc-dhcp-server restart stop: Unknown instance: isc-dhcp-server start/running, process 20918 It looks like it starts, but it isn't actually running and Webmin states that the DHCP service is not running. So my question is, does isc-dhcp-server support subnetting (CIDR) style scopes, or must they be class A / B / C scopes (doesn't seem likely)? I've double checked the interface reference (this is a VM with only one defined eth0 interface) and everything else I can thing of.

  I have a question about Software Architecture, anyone can help me or give me some hints currently, I have a J2EE project which deploys in a server, I should a Java Standard project(J2SE) should run 24 hours x 7 days to monitor something it could not run separately, because the Java Project shared the some same classes such as Java Bean classes with the J2EE project maybe my design is not correct, can anyone suggest me what should I do? Using SOA? is this correct? my current solution is run this java project using a bash, but I dont think it is then best idea. I list my class packages com.company.alteck com.company.altronics com.company.gamming com.company.jaycar com.company.jup com.company.rpg com.company.sansai com.company.wiretech com.company.yatsal com.ebay.api com.ebay.bean com.ebay.credential com.ozsstock.finals com.ozstock.adapter com.ozstock.aspectj com.ozstock.model com.ozstock.persistence com.ozstock.service com.ozstock.suppliers my structure likes this, all the packages contains "company" should run separately, but depends on the model bean class. can anyone give me some hints to redesign?
