• Is there a way to send a blog post to wordpress via an api?

  In more details: I want to build a web service to which users register and by browsing my site, users can send blog posts to their own blogs. Initially wordpress.org is discussed. However, I'll be happy to hear solutions for typepad or wordpress.com as well. The ideal solution would be a way for my server to simply "tell" their blog what to post (as a draft of course for them to confirm). A good solution would be for my users to install a plugin in their blog that will allow my server the above functionality. Lacking any other solution, I would give my users text to copy-paste into their blog editor. Help me find a solution and feel free to be creative!

• Lookup Field as a Site Column via CAML

  I'm trying to create a Lookup Field as a Site Column via CAML. The list I want to use as the source of the lookup is created in the Feature Receiver so I don't know it's ID. I've read several blog posts that indicate that I can just put the path to the list in the List attribute. It seems from the comments on these post that this solution works for some people but not for others. I'm in the latter group. • How to retrieve Google Blogger feed in ASP.NET medium trust?

  I have an ASP.NET web site hosted at HostMySite.com and they recently changed the shared accounts to run in medium trust. In my web site I query my Blogger account and get blog posts to display on my web site. I am using Google.GData.Client v1.4.0.2 The retrieval works locally (and worked until medium trust was invoked at the ISP).   Sorry if this has been asked, my search brought up many off topic posts. I'm trying to convert wildcards from a user defined search string (wildcard is "*") to postgresql like wildcard "%". I'd like to handle escaping so that "%" => "\%" and "\*" => "*" I know i could replace \* with something else prior to replacing * and then swap it back, but i'd prefer not to and instead only convert * using a pattern that selects it when not proceeded by \.   I've got my database set up with three tables - code, tags, and code_tags for tagging posts. This will be the SQL query processed when a post is submitted. Each tag is sliced up by PHP and individually inserted using these queries. INSERT IGNORE INTO tags (tag) VALUES ('$tags[1]'); SELECT tags.id FROM tags WHERE tag = '$tags[1]' ORDER BY id DESC LIMIT 1; INSERT INTO code_tags (code_id, tag_id) VALUES ($codeid, WHAT_GOES_HERE?) The WHAT_GOES_HERE? value at the end is what I need to know. It needs to be the ID of the tag that the second query fetched. How can I put that ID into the third query? I hope I explained that correctly. I'll rephrase if necessary.

• MonoRail - Server-side vs. Client-side Form Validation

  Hey, I'm using MonoRail and was wondering how it decides when to use client-side vs. server-side validation? In my model class I have [ValidateNonEmpty] on two properties, one is a textbox, the other is a dropdown. The textbox triggers client-side validation on form submission, if I leave the dropdown empty though it posts back to the server and returns back the validation error from server-side. Is there a way to get the dropdown to trigger client-side validation? Also it's odd because after the postback, it clears what I had entered in the dropdown but maintains the state of the textbox (viewstate anyone??) Thanks, Justin

• Moving and renaming files, keeping extension but include sub directories in batch file

  Forgive me if this is nor the place to ask these questions, I am new to batch and scripts and a bit new to these kind of posts... I have a folder that will receive files and folders, I want to run a script that looks at the directory and renames all files in each subfolder numerically, and moves them if possible. For example I have something that looks like the following Recieved_File_Folder |_folder1 | |_file1.txt | |_file2.bmp |_folder2 | |_file4.exe | |_file5.bmp |__file9.txt |__file10.jpg I would like to be able to look in every directory and move it to something like this, keeping in mind the names of the files will be random and I want to keep the extension intact also. Renamed_Folder |_folder1 | |_1.txt | |_2.bmp |_folder2 | |_1.exe | |_2.bmp |__1.txt |__2.jpg I have spent alot of time on this and am not doing too well with it, any help would be very greatly appreciated!!   Hello Experts, Developing using MVC-3, Razor, C# Been searching around and cannot find advice I'm looking for. My site will contain user-uploaded images (possibly a high number). What is the best practice for managing these pictures (placement, breakdown into sub-folders, etc...)? Where do I place them that will prevent them from getting accidentally blown away if I republish my site periodically? If there are any good articles or blog posts, that would be helpful. • Django equivalent to paster for backend processes

  I use pylons in my job, but I'm new to django. I'm making an rss filtering application, and so I'd like to have two backend processes that run on a schedule: one to crawl rss feeds for each user, and another to determine relevance of individual posts relative to users' past preferences. In pylons, I'd just write paster commands to update the db with that data. Is there an equivalent in django? EG is there a way to run the equivalent of python manage.py shell in a non-interactive mode?

• cross-platform frameworks for storage + metadata?

  I don't quite know what to use for terminology, so bear with me... Are there any cross-platform frameworks out there that facilitate a kind of "virtual file storage" to encapsulate adding files along with a database of metadata? I'm thinking about something along the lines of iTunes or iPhoto, where the program manages a whole bunch of files (in those cases audio or image files) and has a database of metadata so you can organize/find those files easily. I'd like to cobble together something along those lines for files in general. edit: I am hesitant to store files in a database alone, e.g. MySQL, as there would be potentially tens of gigabytes in my application (this issue has been mentioned in several SO posts, see this one that gives several links to others). I'm looking at CouchDB though and maybe it has promise....

  I have a blog that I would like to increase traffic on. I've read lots of technical blogs, but it's a lot different writing a blog versus reading a blog. There seems to be several ways to write a post. General article: I like this tool. This is how I do it. Specific technical issue: Programming solutions. I do get some traffic, but they don't leave any comments. Should I use HN and Reddit. What are some of the other places I can promote my blog? How to respond to negative comments (trolls)? • Include a unique URL in EXE

  Hi :) I want to give users of my site the ability to upload their software/hardware configuration automatically on Windows. So I'm thinking of having an EXE file download, and somehow put in that EXE a unique URL for each user. When the data is collected, the program would just posts some JSON to that URL. How can I do it? I'm most familiar with .NET platform. Tools like this do exist, for example Blizzard uses this approach for their beta test enroll. Each user downloads a slightly different EXE. TIA

• TeamCity Mercurial, How to handle tags and releases

  Hi First off, i'm new to Teamcity comming from CC. I have a server up and running and building my projects, so far so good :). My problem is this: Whenever I make a Mercurial Tag, I would like TeamCity to react in a special way, so that the resulting binaries/artifacts from the Tag build, are made avaliable for download (automatic release when tagging). In short can I do automated release so that when I create a Tag AND it builds successfully then the result is copied to some location X, but ONLY when I Tag. Im pretty sure that this can be done, but when I read the posts around the net and read the documentation, I tend to get a little confused about artifacts/build scripts/publishing and how to do it. Can anyone give me some hints about where/how to start or guide me to a location with a tutorial/example of how to do this? I want it soooooo bad :-D. Kind regards

• Is a new thread in a Visual Studio test project aborted when the test ends?

  Hi, i have to do some message exchange with a 3rd party (in a website). When the client posts a page, i start the message exchange. When that doesn't succeed for some reason, i report this to the client by rendering the page with a message. On the background, in a separate thread, i start a process to send abort messages to the 3rd party. I can't do this while the user is waiting for the page to come back, because it might take a few minutes. But in a test project, the test ends when the message to the 3rd party is sent, and after the new thread is started. But it seems that the new thread also ends, when the test is done. Is that normal behaviour? I do start the thread in a new class with a reference to 2 objects from the class which tries to send the message in the first place, may that be a problem?

• Copying web part pages within SharePoint

  Hi, I'm trying to copy some web part pages (aspx) from one library into another. Reason is that I've got sites which are created dynamiccally. I also want to add some content (based on several rules) to those sites, which include aspx web part pages. The deployment works fine, but the web part pages are empty in the target site. As I've read in several blog posts, this has something to do with the ghosting of the files. Is there a way to literally copy all of the content in the ASPX to the site? The webparts aren't site or feature dependant, so the pages should work on every site. When I copy the pages with SPD, it works fine, but I don't understand how SPD does this.

• Ruby string encoding problem

  I've looked at the other ruby/encoding related posts but haven't been able to figure out why the following is not working. Likely just because I'm dense, but here's the situation. Using Ruby 1.9 on windows. I have a set of CSV files that need some data appended to the end of each line. Whenever I run my script, the appended characters are gibberish. The input text appears to be IBM437 encoding, whereas my string I'm appending starts as US-ASCII. Nothing I've tried with respect to forcing encoding on the input strings or the append string seems to change the resultant output. I'm stumped. • How do I delete all tables in a database using SqlCommand?

  Unlike the other posts about the task "delete all tables", this question is specifically about using SqlCommand to access the database. A coworker is facing the problem that no matter how it attempts it, he can't delete all tables from a database via SqlCommand. He states that he can't perform such action as long as there is an active connection - the connection by the SqlCommand itself. I believe this should be possible and easy, but I don't have much of a clue about databases so I came here to ask. It would be awesome if you could provide a short code example in C# (or any .NET language, for that matter). If you require additional information, just leave a comment.

• Displaying Fields (and/instead of Properties) in a PropertyGrid

  I'd like to use a PropertyGrid to manipulate the data on some objects, however these objects don't have properties, they have fields. Thus a property grid doesn't display them (high five MS!) Before anyone posts "just use properties": I can't at the moment.. these objects are DTOs and are used to send data to a VB6 Interop dll, thus all the parameters for the method calls are "ref" parameters (high five MS!), and C# won't compile if you use a property instead of a field or variable (high five MS!). No, I am not going to create local variables for every property on any given object. There many, many fields, and many, many test cases that would need updating, as well as the production code it self, and this post/question may be the path of least resistance. :)

  i recently was working on an ASP.NET MVC site that basically serves static html and uses ajax gets to return data to the page when inputs are changed. there is actually no posting or getting from an html input tag on the pages at all. (it is a specific style of site that is not used by the general public, so having compatibility problems for people without javascript is not an issue) after designing the site, i realised that i hadn't even included any form tags. as the site does not use any direct posts or gets, and apart from it being just good html design, i wondered, in my particular situation, if there was any point to having any form tags on the page?

• Should HTTP POST be discouraged?

  Quoting from the CouchDB documentation: It is recommended that you avoid POST when possible, because proxies and other network intermediaries will occasionally resend POST requests, which can result in duplicate document creation. To my understanding, this should not be happening on the protocol level (a confused user armed with a doubleclick is a completely different story). What is the best course of action, then? Should we really try to avoid POST requests and replace them by PUT? I don't like that as they convey a different meaning. Should we anticipate this and protect the requests by unique IDs where we want to avoid accidental duplication? I don't like that either: it complicates the code and prevents situations where multiple identical posts may be desired.
