• iPhone dev - viewDidLoad and viewDidUnload in programmatically created view?

  I read somewhere that in a programmatically created view in a UIViewController, not using Interface Builder, -viewDidLoad and -viewDidUnload should not be used. Is this right? Why? Where would I release subviews that I have retaining properties of? Or should I just not use properties for them? EDIT: Read my comments on Rob Napier's answer.

  On Solaris, is there a command that I can run to get the MAC address of an ethernet card without running "/sbin/ifconfig -a" as root. Running /sbin/ifconfig -a as a non root user leaves out the MAC address - go figure! Thanks, Paul

• Is F# a poor choice for a functional language

  Hi, To me, I think F# is a bad choice due to the fact that it uses threads behind the scenes. To me, threads are too "heavy" due to things like context switching. I can see why Erlang is a good choice because it uses light weight processes. Am I wrong? Cheers Paul

• Word 2007 macros: is there an OnPrint event I can attach a macro to?

  I'm looking to do a formatting check on word files before they get sent to the printer and it needs to be completely transparent to the user (no extra controls, just using the standard print options available through the UI). Is there an OnPrint or BeforePrint event, or something that can be used in that respect which I could attach a macro to, the same way I can with Open, Close, or Save? Basically, in a pure virtual base class the __declspec(novtable) argument can be used to suppress the creation of a vtable for the base class as well as vtable initialization/deinitialization code in the contstructor/destructor respectively.   I have been given data which cannot be interpreted by my software unless it has a lowercase letter at the end. The data was delivered with an uppercase letter at the end. Somehow I need to first recursively loop through all folders and find whether the filename ends with a letter and then change it to lowercase. I think python could do this, but I don´t know how,. • NUNIT + VS2010 = Unable to copy file from /obj to /bin...being used by another process

  I am trying to run some unit tests using NUnit while I have the project open, and VS 2010 cannot rebuild the project while the assembly is loaded in NUnit. • Best solution for a windows service with constant running threads in C# 4.0

  Hi, I want to create a windows service that will create x number of threads that wake up every x number of minutes and do some work. I think the task scheduling or parallel framework is a bad fit for this type of work as it is best suited for work that starts, completes and finishes rather than is constant. Should I look at utilising a thread pool for this approach or does anyone have any advice for a good solution? Thanks Paul

• Best way to get the highest sum from a Matrix (using Java but algorithm is the issue here)

  Sorry I dont know the correct terminology to use but I have a 3x3 matrix like this 1 3 4 5 4 5 2 2 5 and I want get the highest score by picking a value from each row/column but I cant pick the same row or column more than once , so the answer in this case is 3 + 5 + 5 = 13 (row0,col1 + row1,col0 + row2,col2) 4 + 5 + 5 = 14 is not allowed because would have picked two values from col2 I'm using Java, and typically the matrix would be 15 by 15 in size. Is there a name for what Im trying to do, and whats the algorithm thanks Paul
