• Most reliable method for uploading files in PHP w/ progress bar

  Hello everyone, I am interested in finding the most reliable method for uploading files in PHP. I need a progress bar with the upload. I have tried SWFUpload but it randomly issues an I/O Error. Even if the same file is uploaded sometimes there is an error and sometimes there is not. I have configured all the necessary INI/Mysql/Apache directives to accept large file uploads. So, I am looking for alternatives as a Flash based solution has not worked. Would Java be more relirable? I have also looked into PHP with APC. I definitely cannot afford these random errors, so any help on reliable software / suggestions on how to minimize them would be appreciated. Thank you.

  It's been a few years since I've been heavily into Java. Coming back to it I'm seeing this pattern all over the place: ratingBar.setOnRatingBarChangeListener(new OnRatingBarChangeListener() { public void onRatingChanged(RatingBar ratingBar, float rating, boolean fromUser) { // do work } }); This looks more like Functional programming to me. It's a nice pattern but how is it possible to pass a method like this? In the old days a class was a class, and once compiled there was little you could do to it. My questions are: Can anyone let me know what this pattern is called? How can I write a class that can be instantiated in this way. Are there any other useful examples of functional patterns that have made their way into Java? What do I need to Google to read more about this? Thanks.

• What would be my best MySQL Synchronization method?

  We're moving a social media service to be on separate data centers with global load balancing, as our other hosting provider's entire data center went down. Twice. This means that both websites need to be synchronized in some sense -- I'm less worried about the code of the pages, that's easy enough to sync, but they need to have the same database data. From my research on SO, it seems MySQL Replication is a good option, but the MySQL manual, for scaling out, says that its best when there are far more reads then there are writes/updates: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/replication-solutions-scaleout.html In our case, it's about equal. We're getting around 200-300 thousand requests a day right now, and we can grow rapidly. Every request is both a read and write request. What would be the best method or tool to handle this?

• ASP SaveToDisk method takes an incredible amount of time

  This is a method in ASP Classic that saves a file to disk. It takes a very long time but I'm not sure why. Normally, I wouldn't mind so much, but the files it handles are pretty large so need this needs to faster than 100kB a second save. Seriously slow. (old legacy system, band aid fix till it gets replaced...) • In Visual Studio 2010, intellisense isn't showing for long method signatures

  The problem is exactly as asked in the question title. When I'm typing in the text editor and referencing a public method that has a long signature (lots of parameters, usually 10 or more) the intellisense just stops working. It will sometimes flicker; other times it will not show at all. Only seen this happen with C#, but I don't use anything else. It might happen in VB too. Don't know. Anyone else seeing this? I've Googled for an hour but can't seem to iron it out. I've restarted VS, rebooted the machine, enabled/disabled intellisense in Tools - Options. NOTHING works.

• Class Method not working in objective c

  In my code I have a class called 'ProfileShareViewController', In which I have imported another class I have created called 'OwnProfileData', And I have also created an Instance of that class (class = OwnProfileData) as a property Of 'ProfileShareViewController' and synthesized it (instance called 'OwnProfile'). In another class I have called 'EditProfileViewController', I have imported the 'ProfileShareViewController', and now I am trying to change a property of the OwnProfile object from the ProfileShareViewController within the EditProfileViewController class. For some reason that doesn't work. I have Tried typing: [[ProfileShareViewController ownProfile] setName:@"Ido"]; (The property I am trying to set is Name, and as it is synthesized in OwnProfileData, I am using 'setName'). This doesn't work and I get the warning: "No known class method for selector 'ownMethod'. Any Idea as for why that might happen and how I can fix this? Thanks for your comments! But nothing happens when Derived is created. The question is: How can I make ''runme()'' also fire when creating Derived. This is what I have thought so far: If I explicitly set Derived's metclass to Base's, it will work. But I don't want that to happen. I basically want Derived to use the Base's metaclass without me having to explicitly set it so.

• Single C++/CLI method to wrap many type specific C functions

  I am wrapping a C library using C++/CLI so that the C library can be used easily from C# in a C#'ish way. Some of the functions in this library are for putting a value into a container. There are no generics in C so there exists a function per type CLIB_SetBool(BOOL value), CLIB_SetInt(int value), CLIB_SetString(char* string) and so on. To make it easier to use from C#, I have created a single Set function which takes a System::Object. I have two related questions: With my method how would you use a switch statement on the type of System::Object to call the correct CLIB_Setxxxx function. [typeid is only for unmanaged code and I can't seem to use GetType.] Is there a better way to wrap these functions like using a Generic? [I started using template specialisation but then realised that C# doesn't see templates.] Thanks.

• Fastest method in merging of the two: dicts vs lists

  I'm doing some indexing and memory is sufficient but CPU isn't. So I have one huge dictionary and then a smaller dictionary I'm merging into the bigger one: big_dict = {"the" : {"1" : 1, "2" : 1, "3" : 1, "4" : 1, "5" : 1}} smaller_dict = {"the" : {"6" : 1, "7" : 1}} #after merging resulting_dict = {"the" : {"1" : 1, "2" : 1, "3" : 1, "4" : 1, "5" : 1, "6" : 1, "7" : 1}} My question is for the values in both dicts, should I use a dict (as displayed above) or list (as displayed below) when my priority is to use as much memory as possible to gain the most out of my CPU? For clarification, using a list would look like: big_dict = {"the" : [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]} smaller_dict = {"the" : [6,7]} #after merging resulting_dict = {"the" : [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]} Side note: The reason I'm using a dict nested into a dict rather than a set nested in a dict is because JSON won't let me do json.dumps because a set isn't key/value pairs, it's (as far as the JSON library is concerned) {"a", "series", "of", "keys"} Also, after choosing between using dict to a list, how would I go about implementing the most efficient, in terms of CPU, method of merging them?   I want to convert an array of Place objects to json, I've been doing it like this: var places = <%= @places.to_json.html_safe %>; The only problem is that every place in the @places array has an associated tag list that doesn't get included. I'm using the acts_as_taggable_on gem to handle tags, so to get the tag list for a place I need to say place.tag_list. What do I have to do to get the tag_list included for each place in the javascript array? I think I'll need to write my own to_json method but I don't know how. Thanks

  I was going through mit's opencourseware related to performance engineering. The quickest method (requiring least number of clock cycles) for finding the minimum of two numbers(say x and y) is stated as: min= y^((x^y) & -(x<y)) The output of the expression x < y can be 0 or 1 (assuming C is being used) which then changes to -0 or -1. I understand that xor can be used to swap two numbers. Questions: 1. How is -0 different from 0 and -1 in terms of binary? 2. How is that result used with the and operator to get the minimum? • [iphone] use NSString in other method?!

  It's really embarrassing but i stuck on it for two hours of trial and error. I declared an NSString in the interface as: NSString *testString; Then i made a property and synthesized it. I allocate it in viewDidLoad with: testString = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"thats my value: %i", row]; If i want to get the value of the string in another method it always return (null). So the string is empty, but why? how do i make it accessible for every function inside of one class? So i don't want to make a global var just a "global variable inside the class" It's really confusing because as long as i code i never ran into this problem :( thanks a lot for helping me!
