• how to find 3g modem signal strength with out AT commands?

  when i try to find signal strength of my modem using AT+CSQ, the usb device is locked by the network manager. To find the signal strength with AT+CSQ i have to first disable network connection using #nmcli nm wwan off to unlock the device inode /dev/ttyUSBX. Is there any nmcli option to get signal strength or any other option? EDIT The gdbus object for NetworkManager don't have any method like getSignalStrength. Network manager is locking device file preventing to use AT commands. nm-applet was able to display signal strength in system tray. so there should be a way to get signal strength form network manager! nmcli is command line counter part of nm-applet. Can i get signal strength using nmcli? nothing about signal strength is mentioned in its man pages.

• How to you solve the problem of implicit locking and parallel execution?

  Where the code is: function A() { lock() doSomething() unlock() } We can call A safely from multiple threads, but it never be executed in parallel . For parallel execution, we have to evade all of this code. But the problem is we never know the A is getting lock or not. If we have source code (maybe lucky case), we have to decode all code to know locking is happening or not. This sucks. But even worse is we normally have no source code. It's obvious this kind of hidden locks will become bottleneck of parallel execution even all the other parts are designed for parallel. And also, (1) With locks, execution cannot be parallel. (2) And I can't know whether the locks are used or not in any code. (3) Defensively, I can't make parallel anything! This facts drives me crazy. How do you solve this problem?

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 64Bit. How to disable ubuntu enter password for keyring default to unlock prompt ? Every time I open Chrome or ubuntu software center, this annoying window jump out. I have being searching online for a long time, most of the answers are like delete ~/.gnome2/keyring XX , but I don't have such directory or go to password and keys , disable some option, but this window is empty in my case, very strange , even I add a new password keyring, it is still empty. None of these methods works in my case. I will be very appreciate if you can help

• /etc/crypttab not working

  I used the Disk Utility to create an encrypted volume on an external drive. When I click the Unlock Volume button in that program, it mounts the drive for me. Now, I want to automate this process so that it will happen at boot-up. When I run sudo cryptsetup luksUUID /dev/sdb1, I get this: ca709269-1e3e-4e9e-9e08-7248f0e6c5a6 So, I create /etc/crypttab like this: backup_drive UUID=ca709269-1e3e-4e9e-9e08-7248f0e6c5a6 none And I added this line to /etc/fstab: /dev/mapper/backup_drive /mnt/backup ext3 default 0 2 When I reboot, Ubuntu tells me that the device is not available to map, so I tell it to skip it. It appears that the /etc/crypttab is not getting run correctly. How can I debug this?

• Replace Android on HP Slate 21?

  I want to replace Android with Ubuntu for Androids on my new HP Slate 21. As far as I known none has ever tried it yet and I would appreciate if Ask Ubuntu would help out here. Would I need to unlock & root first my machine? (In which case I will need a second machine plugged to my Slate...) Or can I just insert the bootable usb with the distribution I need and go from there as in a normal non-optical drive situation? Also where can I find the downloadable file/image of Ubuntu for Android as describe here? I see no link with the name on it.. Should I just download the normal dis and choose from options when installing it?

• installation password

  I just updated to ubuntu 11.10 and am getting "Your authentication attempt was unsuccessful." I am the only user and am the Administrator, during login on my keyring i set to logon automatically, but it still askes me for my password. So i put in my old one and it works. But when i go to install apps it asks again and nothing works! Also if i go to user accounts and try to unlock or change my password it won't let me! It says under password "None" so what's going on?! I'm new to Ubuntu! Help!

• screen saver issue

  When i leave my pc alone for while the screens turns black which is fine, when i return and move my mouse it comes back on but my second screen stays black and my first screen has a blue overlay over the top of the unlock screen. I believe this is to do with my dual screens on gts450. screen 1 is 1920*1080 screen 2 is 1024*768 the blue over lay is on screen one and looks to be the size of screen 2 I can out the password in and press enter and then everything goes back to normal, but how do i fix this issue of a blue overlay stopping me seeing whats on screen.

• Networking Icon Keeps Disappearing

  Almost every time I unlock my computer the networking icon and the Bluetooth icons are missing from the panel. They also disappear if I disable networking with the 'hardware switch', even though before they would just switch to a 'disabled' look. I know I can get the networking one back by running nm-applet, but I'd rather just find a way to make it stop disappearing. What causes this? This is on 12.10 64-bit, if it matters. UPDATE: I ran it from terminal, and got this: $ nm-applet ** Message: applet now removed from the notification area ** Message: PID 31340 (we are 28924) sent signal 15, shutting down... And then it exited. So it thinks it's supposed to quit...? I haven't been able to figure out what process had that ID.

• Session locked, Kubuntu 12.10

  After leaving my laptop for a while, my Kubuntu session closed. (I'm not sure which of the various timeout criteria caused it.) So I got a screen that said my session was locked and I needed to provide my password to unlock it. That's a nuisance, not a big problem, but I'd like to fix it so timed-out sessions don't lock the session. I assume there's something in System Settings to disable the lockout -- but where? I looked in Power Management and found a setting "Lock screen on resume", but it's unchecked. Is this possibly a bug?

• Implementing unlockable items on Android

  I know this would be a beginners question (some of you might think) but I would like to know different approaches for this. I have a game with lets say 20 unlockable items, at the main menu I have a button where the user can go to an activity and view the unlockable items. So I would like for it to have a "Locked image" and under it a text telling you what the item is and maybe how to unlock it. What is the best way of going about this? And then when the item is unlocked during the game, maybe put a variable in the shared preference and check at the beginning of the activity with the unlockabled items. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

  I recently changed the name of the administrator and turned off passwords then clicked lock. After some time, I decided to add a password so I clicked on unlock and it's prompting me to enter a password. I tried typing the old password and it didn't accepted it. I also tried to set password and keys as "set to default" but still nothing happened. Now I'm stuck and can't get to change the administrator settings. I did my research but nothing seems to work. Please help.

  Hello SOers, I've run into a nice problem with the UIComponent.addChild(...) function. First of all, I'm using ESRI Api for Flex. In this API you find a class called Graphic that inherits UIComponent. Basically, I'm trying to add, as a child, a Graphic 'g' to another graphic 'parent'. So that when you delete the 'parent' graphic the 'g' graphic deletes as well. private function writeMeasurements(parent:Graphic):void { var g:Graphic; if(parent.geometry.extent != null) g = new Graphic(parent.geometry.extent.center); else g = new Graphic(parent.geometry); g.initialize(); g.name = UIDUtil.createUID(); g.symbol = txtSym; graphicsLayer.add(g); parent.addChild(g); } graphicsLayer class This code actually runs pretty fine. The problem is after... it's like if the addChild function was asynchronious. • loading js files and other dependent js files asynchronously

  I'm looking for a clean way to asynchronously load the following types of javascript files: a "core" js file (hmm, let's just call it, oh i don't know, "jquery!" haha), x number of js files that are dependent on the "core" js file being loaded, and y number of other unrelated js files. I have a couple ideas of how to go about it, but not sure what the best way is. I'd like to avoid loading scripts in the document body. So for example, I want the following 4 javascript files to load asynchronously, appropriately named: /js/my-contact-page-js-functions.js // unrelated/independent script /js/jquery-1.3.2.min.js // the "core" script /js/jquery.color.min.js // dependent on jquery being loaded http://thirdparty.com/js/third-party-tracking-script.js // another unrelated/independent script But this won't work because it's not guaranteed that jQuery is loaded before the color plugin... (function() { a=[ '/js/my-contact-page-functions.js', '/js/jquery-1.4.2.min.js', '/js/jquery.color.js', 'http://cdn.thirdparty.com/third-party-tracking-script.js', ], d=document, h=d.getElementsByTagName('head')[0], s, i, l=a.length; for(i=0;i<l;i++){ s=d.createElement('script'); s.type='text/javascript'; s.async=true; s.src=a[i]; h.appendChild(s); } })(); Is it pretty much not possible to load jquery and the color plugin asynchronously? (Since the color plugin requires that jQuery is loaded first.) The first method I was considering is to just combine the color plugin script with jQuery source into one file.
