  • Why can't I access my own web server from my local network?

    I have a web server in my home network and I'm using ZoneEdit for dynamic DNS. It's accessible perfectly to everyone outside of my local network, but since I switched to a Gateway 2Wire DSL modem/router I'm unable to use the domain to access the server from my network. I can access it via a local IP or by putting it in my Windows hosts file but this is annoying to do on every computer and for every subdomain. Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks!

  • Other then DDNS, can a fake primary DNS server break anything else?

    I am aware that the primary server listed in SOA record has to be valid for DDNS to work. Is anyone aware of any other application that uses the SOA listed primary DNS server in one way or the other? By a fake primary server I mean either: Inaccessible by anything else other than secondary servers (this is called hidden primary correct? unsure). A completely fake domain name like dig +short soa spamhaus.org

  • MLGPO for Windows Server 2003 R2?

    Is there something like MLGPO (Multiple Local Group Policy Objects) for Windows Server 2003 R2? I have a 2003 Terminal Server that isn't part of a domain/AD and I'm trying to set local group policies which applies only to certain users and/or groups and the policies differ between those entities. I wanted to avoid using the file permissions trick for on C:\WINDOWS\system32\GroupPolicy as that's an all-or-nothing approach. I can't upgrade this box to Windows Server 2008 as the software used is only supported and only works on 2003. Are there any third-party tools to achieve this?

  • How do I get detailed information about what happens during logon

    Due to my IT department leaving I am now responsible for all our IT systems. I now have several problems to get my head around and fix. I run Active Directory on windows server 2003 and use group policy to apply settings etc. Recently we have had some windows 7 clients added to our network, these are having awful problems with our logon scripts and drive mappings. For the most part my XP clients are working without a problem. What I want to know is what is going on during logon, as running the logon scripts after I have logged on often works. Does anyone know of a way to get detailed log information of what is happening before and during logon. Thanks for your help and any suggestions you have for tracking down the source of these problems.

How do I discover all the domains that use a particular IP address (e.g. 69.x.x.7) without going through the DNS information on each domain? The particular webserver is running Windows 2003 and IIS6.     How can i block a sub-site of a website as e.g. http://example.com/someSite unfortunately the hosts file is not an option since you can only block whole domains there and any "/" just destroys these rules. this is just for my personal protection against visiting some sites too often, while i still have to be able to get to the other sites of that domain (as e.g. example.com/someOtherSite) would be great if someone knows a solution regarding this topic

  • Disable "Send as XPS Attachment" Word 2007

    Is there a way to disable this option either via Group Policy or via some form of registry hack? Normally I would go down the route of telling users not to send as XPS and send as something else but with our recent upgrade to 2007 lots of users are banding these files around. Unfortunately our version of Citrix does not play nicely with XPS documents and we end up having to log them out. Am told the fix for Citrix is not forthcoming so wondered if I could bury my head in the sand and disable the option all together. Regards Tim

Unfortunately we kept the auditing disabled completely due it being such a resource hog. So I was wondering If there is a way to audit a specific folder for a specific security group, for just file and folder deletions within the specified folder.   • WSS audiences dont show all AD Groups

    Not all of my AD Groups are showing in the Audience list. I want to create a new audience based on if the user is in a group. Some AD groups show up, and others don't. Many the newer ones do not show up. My connection is pulling (im pretty sure) the whole AD via primary domain controller. MOS2007 win2003 Any ideas?

Or, is ns2 hit any time that ns1 returns a miss/doesn't resolve the query? I know ns2 would be hit if ns1 ever went down; but, what if ns1 is up and just doesn't have the data?

  • Windows 7 accounts on a 2008r2 DC keep getting locked out randomly

    As the title states, this happens randomly to Windows 7 accounts on our Windows 2008R2 domain controller. We just had this start happening after changing from 123together hosted exchange to Rackspace hosted exchange. Also around this time our passwords on the DC started expiring, but not the exact day, and everyone has different days they need to change it before. It has only affected 10 out of 30 accounts, and I see no link between them. What are some fixes I should run or things to look for?

    I have purchased a domain name for my blog, and I'd like to use [email protected] as my email address. I have a Linux (Ubuntu 13.10) VPS that's running the LAMP stack. I would like to install some software that would include spam filtering, email delivery, etc, but would be simpler to maintain than something like this (possibly hundreds of steps, and a lot of maintenance headaches too I suppose). I would also require a web interface at mail.mydomain.com - but I suppose that Roundcube is an option

    My network scenario is: Two location connected each other through Wireless towers. 1st network ip address are 10.10.10.1 to 10.10.10.150 2nd network ip address are 10.10.10.200 to 10.10.10.254 Both location using their own ACTIVE DIRECTORY (MS SERVER 2008) and share their data with each other network through file sharing.     Exchange 2010, one-server installation (small production, I know not best practice) OWA Connectivity has been confirmed, Autodiscover is configured and working properly for EVERY other installation. Other user accounts tested on problem Outlook, none can connect. Windows Firewall is pre-configured by Group Policy, only modifications being related to remote management. Firewall has also been disabled during diagnostic period. Network discovery and file sharing is enabled on workstation as well. Windows 7 Professional, latest updates installed. Driving me nuts. Help, serverfault?

  • Windows 2008 startup script will not run?

    I am trying to get a very simple batch script to run when my Windows 2008 Server (R2) system starts up. I have added the script to the "Startup Scripts" in the local group policy by running gpedit.msc, and I see the script listed under Windows Settings/Scripts (Startup/Shutdown)/Startup when I run rsop.msc, but the script is not being executed. The "Last Executed" column in rsop is empty even after a reboot, and a file that should be created by the script is never created. At the moment, the entire contents of the script are: rem Check if this script is running. date /t > c:\temp\flag The target directory (c:\temp) exists. The script is called c:\scripts\startup.bat, and works fine if I run it by hand.

    On Windows Vista, I right-click on a folder, Properties, Sharing tab, and either "Advanced Sharing" or "Share"-"Share" causes an error: Windows File Sharing This program will not run Access is denied. Close My user account is an "administrator" on this machine. I think this behavior changed since my computer was added to the new domain recently. I have other folders shared (from long ago), and they continue to be shared just fine.

  • How to recover from locked down XP Home computer

    We've got a Kiosk machine provided to us by a manufacturer. The video card is flaky, so I want to replace it with another card we have on hand, rather than shipping across the country. The problem is that they have policies in place that locks the system down to a point where only the manufacturers demo works on the computer so I can't install drivers for the newer card. I know pretty much nothing about windows policies or the policy editor. Am I fighting a losing battle trying to replace thi scard?
