  • how does teamviewer find my computer even if my comp. behind of the firewall and firewall isn't conf

    Did you use teamviewer? (comic question i know... Who doesn't use it?) Do you have any idea how does teamviewer make connection even if i am behind the router, firewall, switch and my local firewall..? I'm trying to imagine a connection that is between remote machinge and my computer. Remote machine is sending the packets (and its header (for instance, destination IP, message body)) to me but it only knows my id number(which is given by my local teamviewer application). And this packets are reaching to my computer even if there is a juniper firewall (and also my windows firewall). What kind a message body is recieving by computer? (of course it is not like xml, text, html, excel :) Do you have any idea? PS. Please share your knowledge like you are explaining to beginner level user.

    the purpose is to use c++ in a useful way. i have just started programming and have made a few small applications in c and c#. my understanding is that programming for web and thing related to web is now a days a very easy task. please note this is for personnel learning not for rent a coder or any money making. an application which can run on any windows platform even win98. the application should start automatically at a scheduled time and do the following. connect to a site which displays stock prices summary (high low current open ). captures the data (excluding the other things in the site) and saves it to disk ( a sql database) please note:- internet connection is assumed to be there always. do not want to know how to make database schema or database. the stock exchange has no law prohibiting the use of the data provided on its site, but i do not want to mention the name in case i am wrong, but its for personnel private use only. the data of summary of pricing is arranged in a table such that when copied pasted to ms excel it automatically forms a table. guidance needed thank u.

  • Which MS technologies would be suited for a data intensive application?

    I'm a junior VB.net developer with little application design knowledge. I've been reading a lot of material online regarding different design patterns, frameworks, and methodologies. It's become a bit confusing for me. Right now I'm trying to decide on what language would be best suited to convert an existing VB6 application (with SQL server backend.) I need to update the UI and add more user functionality and reporting capabilities. Initially I was thinking of using WPF and attempting the MVVM model for this big project. Reports would be generated from SSRS. A peer suggested using ASP.net and I don't have enough experience to determine what would be better. The senior programmers here are stuck on using VB6 and don't have any input on what to use. They are encouraging me to use the latest technologies. This application would be for ~20 users in a central location. Ideally I would stick to a Microsoft .net language. Current interface is similar to a datagrid table where the user would click in to see the detail of each record. They would need to have multiple records open at any given time.     I have an app which acts almost like a daemon. Sometimes it quits on error and many times it prints an error msg then ask users to press any key to close. How can i relaunch the app when either case happens? I am more interested in the 2nd case. I can do this in c++, C# or python.     Hello I need to find a stand-alone (ie. no OpenOffice-based tools, for instance) Windows application that can present users with forms to enter records into an SQLite database. The goal is to migrate data from Excel sheets into a serverless, single-user database like SQLite. As a bonus, the application would also have a somewhat-protected admin section so that I can also use it to CRUD data with the same app, but it's not a requirement.     Having burned through a number of consumer grade laptops in recent years, I'm wondering if the additional cost of a business grade computer is a worth while investment. I'm considering getting a laptop with slightly lower specs to justify the added cost. The primary benefits I see are: (i) the notebook will be more reliable, (ii) have a longer life and (iii) the warranty (parts and labor) will be 3 years instead of 1 year. Are there any other considerations one should keep in mind when shopping for a business grade PC? Is purchasing direct from the manufacturer wise or are there other options that should be considered too? Thanks in advance!

  • How do I enable in-place tablet pc input panel for non tablet PCs?

    Hi all, Is it possible to enable the in-place tablet PC input panel on a non-tablet PC? I have checked the "For tablet pen input, show the Input Panel icon next to the text entry area when possible" checkbox in the options of the Input Panel. Does this not work because pen input is something different than mouse input? I do have a touch screen, but it just emulates a mouse (moving the cursor, pressing the left mouse button and such). I can get the Input Panel to show manually by starting tabtip.exe and then event the ink works, but I cannot get it to show (itself or it's in-place icon) when I activate text input controls. Does anyone know what's up?

  • What's the best way to clone multiple PCs from one machine?

    Where I work we have dozens and dozens of old ThinkPad laptops. A lot of these can be reused but not for our needs. They have been long since replaced. The higher-ups have decided to donate them to charity. For better or for worse I have been tasked with reimaging them. I took a laptop and installed the factory copy of Windows, updated it, configured it appropriately. Now I'm trying to reimage it to dozens of other laptops. What's some good software to do this? First I used clonezilla to clone the hdd in the laptop to an internal drive in an external enclosure and it worked. Then I tried taking the base image out and connecting it externally to a laptop that needed to be imaged and I got it to work a few times. So far so good, right? Well once I informed my boss of my findings and what I would want to do then the images started to not work on new laptops. One of three things would happen: The Thinkpads would just blink at me and Windows wouldn't load. Or Windows would load but freeze within two minutes. Last but not least the laptops would BSOD during the Windows XP bootup. These laptops are not going to be used by the company. They're going to charity. So can anyone else recommend a way to reimage multiple laptops?

  • Moving to an outside Exchange provider - How to create new Outlook profile on multiple PCs?

    Following an acquisition we are switching from our local Exchange to an outside provider. I need to change account settings / create new profile so that users are able to access their new mailbox, and I hate the idea of doing it manually on every single client. I have tried quick and dirty solution with copying profile information from Registry on one computer to the other, hoping that I could fix user info later. Quite obviously, this didn't work: Outlook recognized the profile, I could select it at the application startup, but there the fun ends - the profile was corrupt. I couldn't change settings in Mail settings on Control panel, either. Didn't find any Group policy solution. Is there any application, script or other solution, that would help me save time commuting from one PC to the other and typing the same info over and over again?

  • Can you password protect access to a directory (to local and networked PCs) in Windows XP Pro?

    I could just compress the directory as a .zip file w/ a password (which I think would just look like a compressed folder w/ a password) but I'd like something with less overhead (i.e., none of the decompression, etc.) Any ideas? Clarification/update: I'd like to have anyone be able to access it from another computer if they know the password. I.e., I don't want them to have to log in as a different user, etc., but, rather just enter a password.

    I am just curious, why would a windows 7 desktop, installed with ie8, have Tablet PC 2.0 in its user agent string. Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; .NET4.0C; Tablet PC 2.0) Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; .NET4.0C; Tablet PC 2.0) Is this a feature in Windows 7, how can I turn this off in IE8? Other browsers on the same computer don't have such string in the user-agent string they send. As a result, one of our web application confuses this particular desktop client as a mobile (because of the tablet), hence returns the mobile version of our website to it. Thank you!

  • Is .Net Going to Die As far as Server Apps and Desktop Apps are concerned? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: What does Windows 8 mean for the future of .NET? The Windows 8 preview doesn't mention .Net, and the demo seems to showcase what HTML, CSS and Javascript can do on Windows 8 OS. The impression I get from watching it is that HTML , Javascript is going to figure prominently in Windows 8, even for the traditional windows desktop applications. That, couple with the fact that there is no mentioning of .Net 5 and Visual Studio 2012 or 2013( MS is pretty quick to announce the next generation VS tools) yet, makes me worry that sooner or later, Microsoft will abandon the .Net platform completely. Yes, not just abandoning Silverlight, but the .Net platform in general. Which means that all the desktop apps, server apps you wrote in .Net is going to be obsolete, much like how VB6 apps are now obsolete. Is .Net going to die? Of course you won't find that all .Net apps stop running tomorrow. But will there be a day-- even when at that time Microsoft is alive and kicking-- when .Net apps are looked upon as legacy apps in the way we perceive VB6 apps?   • Solutions for cheaply replacing poorly-supported onboard ATI card with discreet graphics on desktop machine?

    I have put Ubuntu on my mum's desktop computer. Unfortunately, the open source radeon driver does not work well with the onboard ATI graphics, and ATI's proprietary driver no longer supports the hardware at all. In order to use the ATI proprietary driver with this hardware, it is necessary to use an older version of Xorg, which is now only available in versions of Ubuntu older than 8.10. Unfortunately, the open source radeon driver seems to be causing X to lock up intermittently when my mum uses Audacity. I'm willing to accept that some hardware is not well-supported on Ubuntu, and so, because this is a desktop computer with a couple of free PCI slots, I think a better solution might simply be to plug in a new graphics card that might have better driver support, and to disable the onboard ATI card in the BIOS. The requirements for this card are that it be inexpensive and have robust (preferably open source) driver support in Ubuntu 10.04. Heavy-duty graphics processing power is not a requirement. A second-hand card on Ebay would also be fine. Can anyone make some recommendations?
