• How To Remove Hyperlinks from Microsoft Word Documents

  Sometimes when you copy text from a webpage and paste it into Word, it can be annoying when the hyperlinks transfer with it. Today we take a look at how to easily remove the hyperlinks if you don’t want them in the document. Here we will cover a few different ways you can remove hyperlinks from emails or webpage data that you enter into a Word document using Paste Special and Keyboard Shortcuts. Remove Hyperlinks in Word Using Paste Special In Word 2010 we copied part of an article from How-To Geek, as you can see the hyperlinks were copied into the document as well. To remove the hyperlinks right-click on the document and you’ll see three icons under Paste Options. We want to select the third one to the right which is Keep Text Only…the text in in the document changes so you can get a preview of how it will look. After selecting Keep Text Only, you can see the hyperlinks have been removed. However, you’ll need to change the fonts and other layouts if you’re not happy with the default of Calibri. In Office 2007 under the Home tab click the dropdown menu under Paste and select Paste Special. In the Paste Special screen select Unformatted Text then click OK. In Office 2003 copy the text into the document, hover your mouse over the clipboard, click the dropdown menu, then select Keep Text Only. Keyboard Ninja Style If you’re a Keyboard Ninja, an easy way to remove all hyperlinks is to use “Ctrl+A” to select everything, then use the key combination “Ctrl+Shift+F9”…We tested this key combination and it works in Word 2003-2010. This will remove all of the hyperlinks and keep the original format of the text. Conclusion There are several different ways to get rid of hyperlinks in text pasted into Word documents. The method you use will depend on your preference and the version of Word you’re using…but the “Ctrl+Shift+F9” keyboard shortcut works in all versions of Word and might be the easiest way. If you always want just text in Word 2007, you can disable automatically disable them. • Link instead of Attaching

  With email storage not being an issue in many companies (I think I currently have 25GB of storage on my email account, I don’t even think about storage), this encourages bad behaviors such as liberally attaching office documents to emails instead of sharing a link to the document in SharePoint or SkyDrive or some file share etc. Attaching a file admittedly has its usage scenarios too, but it should not be the default. I thought I'd list the reasons why sharing a link can be better than attaching files directly. In no particular order: Better Review. It allows multiple recipients to review the file and their comments are aggregated into a single document. The alternative is everyone having to detach the document, add their comments, then send back to you, and then you have to collate. Wirth the alternative, you also potentially miss out on recipients reading comments from other recipients. Always up to date. The attachment becomes a fork instead of an always up to date document. For example, you send the email on Thursday, I only open it on Tuesday: between those days you could have made updates that now I am missing because you decided to share a link instead of an attachment. Better bookmarking. When I need to find that document you shared, you are forcing me to search through my email (I may not even be running outlook), instead of opening the link which I have bookmarked in my browser or my collection of links in my OneNote or from the recent/pinned links of the office app on my task bar, etc. Can control access. If someone accidentally or naively forwards your link to someone outside your group/org who you’d prefer not to have access to it, the location of the document can be protected with specific access control. Can add more recipients. If someone adds people to the email thread in outlook, your attachment doesn't get re-attached - instead, the person added is left without the attachment unless someone remembers to re-attach it. If it was a link, they are immediately caught up without further actions. Enable Discovery. If you put it on a share, I may be able to discover other cool stuff that lives alongside that document. Save on storage. So this doesn't apply to me given my opening statement, but if in your company you do have such limitations, attaching files eats up storage on all recipients accounts and will also get "lost" when those people archive email (and lose completely at some point if they follow the company retention policy). Like I said, attachments do have their place, but they should be an explicit choice for explicit reasons rather than the default.   There are few usecases where the requirement is to customise the envelop information (Interchange/Group ecs file). Such scenarios might be required to be used for only few of the customers. Hence, in addition to the default seeded envelop definitions, it also required to upload the customised definitions. Here is the steps for achieving the same. 1. Create only the Interchange ecs and save 2. Create only the group ecs and save 3. Use the same in B2B 1. Create only the Interchange ecs and save :       Open the document editor and select the required version and doctype. During creating new ecs, ensure to select the checkbox for insert envelop.       Once created, delete the group and transactionset nodes and retain only the Interchange ecs nodes, including both header and trailer. Save this file. 2. Create only the group ecs and save       After creating the ecs file as mentioned in steps of Interchange creation, delete the Interchange and transactionset nodes and retain only the group ecs nodes, including both header and trailer. Save this file. 3. Use the same in B2B       These newly created ecs can be used in B2B by 2 ways.              a. By overriding at the trading partner Level:              This will be very useful when the configuration is complete and then need to incorporate the customisation. In this case, just select the Trading partner - document - select the document which need to be customised.              Upload the newly created Interchange and group ECS files under the Interchange and group tabs respectively and re-deply the associated agreement.              The advantage of this approach is              - Flexibility to add customised envelop definitions to the partners              - Save the re-work of design time effort.              b. • Lessons learned from Word 2007 automation with c# 2008

  My organization has an ongoing project to take documents produced for internal regulations and such, change some of the formatting and then export it as PDF. Our requirements were that only one person would be doing this, but it has been painfully tedious and sometimes error-prone to do by hand. Enter the fearless developer to automate the situation! Since I am one of those guys that just plain does not like VB, I wanted to do the automation in the ever-so-much-more-familiar C#. While Microsoft had made a dll that makes such a task easier, documentation on MSDN is pretty lame and most of the forumns and posts on the internet had little to do with my task. So, I feel like I can give back to the community and make a post here of the things I have learned so far. I hope this is helpful to whoever stumbles upon it. Steps to do this: 1) First of all, make some sort of a project and use some sort of a means to get the filename of the word document you are trying to open. The word interop dll likes using ref on all the parameters passed in, and likes to have them as objects. If you don't want to specify the parameter, you have to give it a "Type.Missing". First you need to do a section break on either side of what you wanted, then you take the section and modify the page layout. Then you can modify the borders of the section (or another object in the word document). • How do I convert some ugly inline javascript into a function?

  I've got a form with various inputs that by default have no value. When a user changes one or more of the inputs all values including the blank ones are used in the URL GET string when submitted. So to clean it up I've got some javascript that removes the inputs before submission. It works well enough but I was wondering how to put this in a js function or tidy it up. Seems a bit messy to have it all clumped in to an onclick. Plus i'm going to be adding more so there will be quite a few. Here's the relevant code. There are 3 seperate lines for 3 seperate inputs. The first part of the line has a value that refers to the inputs ID ("mf","cf","bf","pf") and the second part of the line refers to the parent div ("dmf","dcf", etc). • mongodb: insert if not exists

  Hello, Every day, I receive a stock of documents (an update). What I want to do is inserting each of them if it does not exists. I also want to keep track of the first time I inserted them, and the last time I saw them in an update. I don't want to have duplicate documents. I don't want to remove a document which has previously been saved, but is not in my update. 95% (estimated) of the records are unmodified from day to day. I am using the python driver (pymongo), for that matter. What I currently do is (pseudo-code): for each document in update: existing_document = collection.find_one(document) if not existing_document: document['insertion_date'] = now else: document = existing_document document['last_update_date'] = now my_collection.save(document) My problem is that it is very slow (40 mins for less than 100 000 records, and I have millions of them in the update). I am pretty sure there is something builtin for doing this, but the document for update() is mmmhhh.... a bit terse....   I have a DOB 'Are you over 18' script which when the form is filled out, validates if they are over 18 or not for a tobacco site I am working on. When this form is filled it stores a cookie 'ageCheck' with a value of either true or false. I'm having some issues with a bit of javascript which is stored on all the pages to determine if they can view the page or if they need to be redirected to the verification page. The javascript is supposed to set a div ID to 'display:block' if passed and if no cookie is found OR the cookie value is false is supposed to redirect them to the age verification page. However, it's just not working. I see the cookies are set correctly. • Calling AddEventListener in a loop with a variable element name

  Hi, I'm trying to do the following: I have a set of images and select (dropdown) HTML elements, 30 of each one. I'm trying to use AddEventListener on a loop from 1 to 30 so that when I change the value of the select, the image src is updated (and the image changes).   Hi all, I have worked for various web projects but correct date time localization have not been done and considered throroughly so I want to ask this very typical problem here and I want to hear comments from expert in this problem What is the correct strategy for storing a date/time value from client from server As I understand, because of locale and timezone so we have to do the conversion, I have heard about GMT or UTC time and after do some search it seems that UTC is more accurate ? so we will convert from client time - UTC+0 when saving and when we read the value from server to client, we convert from server time back to client time again ? However, I see in some website, at the bottom have the sentence "All times are in UTC", "All times are in GMT" and also "All times are in your local time". So maybe not all the sites do the convertion back and forth ? And in that case the user has to manually do the date/time conversion ? How to display the date/time convenient to user based on his locale and region How to provide personalization on date/time value ? I had one time depends on vbscript to do the display and the format is read from windows regional and format settings automatically. But without vbscript how can we determine a date/time pattern for a user of a specific locale. Do we have to store a mapping between a locale and pattern somewhere and do the conversion at the server side ? Although date/time conversion is needed in most case, there's situation where only date matter for example if my birthday is 2 Feb 1980, it should be the same for all locale and no conversion should be done. How can we address this issue.

• How can you transform a set of numbers into mostly whole ones?

  Small amount of background: I am working on a converter that bridges between a map maker (Tiled) that outputs in XML, and an engine (Angel2D) that inputs lua tables. Most of this is straight forward However, Tiled outputs in pixel offsets (integers of absolute values), while Angel2D inputs OpenGL units (floats of relative values); a conversion factor between these two is needed (for example, 32px = 1gu). Since OpenGL units are abstract, and the camera can zoom in or out if the objects are too small or big, the actual conversion factor isn't important; I could use a random number, and the user would merely have to zoom in or out. But it would be best if the conversion factor was selected such that most numbers outputted were small and whole (or fractions of small whole numbers), because that makes it easier to work with (and the whole point of the OpenGL units is that they are easy to work with). How would I find such a conversion factor reliably? My first attempt was to use the smallest number given; this resulted in no fractions below 1, but often lead to lots of decimal places where the factors didn't line up. Then I tried the mode of the sequence, which lead to the largest number of 1's possible, but often lead to very long floats for background images. My current approach gets the GCD of the whole sequence, which, when it works, works great, but can easily be thrown off course by a single bad apple. Note that while I could easily just pass the numbers I am given along, or pick some fixed factor, or use one of the conversions I specified above, I am looking for a method to reliably scale this list of integers to small, whole numbers or simple fractions, because this would most likely be unsurprising to the end user; this is not a one off conversion. The end users tend to use 1.0 as their "base" for manipulations (because it's simple and obvious), so it would make more sense for the sizes of entities to cluster around this.

  Hi, i have a litle problem if i create a dynamically IFRAME element and i agregate dynamically elements to the new iframe. Is there anything I'm missing here?   Greetings and Hello I am trying to put together a wordpress site, now because the content in the main div is going to be a different height with every page I need the navigation sidebar to stretch to the same height. So with a little javascript tom-foolery I can get the sidebar to be the same height with the following code function adjust(){ hgt=document.getElementById('content').offsetHeight; document.getElementById('sidebar').style.height=hgt+'px'; } window.onload=adjust; window.onresize=adjust; Now that's all good for a long page but if the content is smaller then the sidebar stuff gets all messy. If the box is not ticked the form submits. If the box is ticked it does not matter whether there is data in the dj_amount.value or not. The form will not submit and no error messages are displayed. • Is it possible to use Google Docs Viewer to view files already in Google Docs?

  The title is a little confusing. I'll elaborate. As far as I can tell, the Google Docs Viewer tool accepts a link to a raw document file (e.g. .doc, .pdf, et. al.), and renders its contents in the browser. For example, this url to a pdf http://research.google.com/archive/bigtable-osdi06.pdf when passed to Viewer, returns this link: http://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http%3A%2F%2Fresearch.google.com%2Farchive%2Fbigtable-osdi06.pdf What I'm trying to achieve is, use the Viewer to view a document already hosted in Google Docs (i.e. no longer a raw document file). When passing a link to a Google Docs document to the Viewer, the result is not as expected. It renders the link's HTML source instead of the document's contents. The reason I want to do this is that I want to be able to use the "embed" feature of Viewer to view Google Docs documents. Does Google Docs have a "link to embeddable view" feature? P.S. Here is a sample snippet to an embedded document. • Looking for resources to explain a security risk.

  I've a developer which has given users the ability to download a zip archive which contains an html document which references a relative javascript file and flash document. The flash document accepts as one of it's parameters a url which is embedded in the html document. I believe that this archive is meant to be used as a means to transfer an advertisement to someone who would use the source to display the ad on their site, however the end user appears to want to view it locally. When one opens the html document the flash document is presented and when the user clicks on the flash document it redirects to this embedded url. However, if one extracts the archive on the desktop and opens the html document in a browser and clicks the flash object, nothing observable happens, they will not be redirected to the external url. I believe this is a security risk because one is transferring from the local computer zone to an external zone. I'm trying to determine the best way to explain this security risk in the simplest of terms to a very end user. They simply believe it's "broken" when it's not broken, they're being protected from a known vulnerability. The developer attempted to explain how to copy the files to a local iis instance, which I highly doubt is running on the users machine, and I do not consider this to be a viable explanation.

  While learning JavaScript, I did not get why the output when we print the array returned of the Sting.split() method (with regular expression as an argument) is as explained below. var colorString = "red,blue,green,yellow"; var colors = colorString.split(/[^\,]+/); document.write(colors); //this print 7 times comma: ,,,,,,, However when I print individual element of the array colors, it prints an empty string, three commas and an empty string: document.write(colors[0]); //empty string document.write(colors[1]); //, document.write(colors[2]); //, document.write(colors[3]); //, document.write(colors[4]); //empty string document.write(colors[5]); //undefined document.write(colors[6]); //undefined Then, why printing the array directly gives seven commas. Though I think its correct to have three commas in the second output, I did not get why there is a starting (at index 0) and ending empty string (at index 4). Please explain I am screwed up here.

  Merry Christmas guys, I found a code that displays a loading message using a gif. It uses the onLoad="init()" in the body tag. It works fine on an HTML file but it doesn't when the file is in PHP.
