• What should be learned for someone starting in Android Games?

  I know this might be a little subjective. But I've read the other questions. A lot of answers kept on popping up like to use box2d, libgdx, andEngine, etc. So the real question is, what would be the best to start off with as a beginner. I have some experience with java code, just by reading about in the Oracle Docs. I've gone through Flash and Eclipse. When i mean gone through, i don't mean i have actually created my own game from Flash or Eclipse, but i just learn things here and there. Currently I'm reading Beginning Android for Beginners but I don't have the knowledge to implement my own Ideas into the game tutorials because of lack of experience. I'm looking for a way to learn how to program to create games for Android. While at the same time get experience from programming. I do not want to learn those drag and drop game making applications such as GameMaker.

  Hi, I'm looking for an example Spring MVC 2.5 web app that I can easily: Setup as a project in Eclipse Deploy to a local app server (using Ant/Maven) There are a couple of example applications included with the Spring distribution ('petclinic' and 'jpetstore'), but they don't provide any Eclipse project files (or a way to generate them). I went to the RTC demo and it looks like a reasonable product, built around Eclipse, but I would rather not give up using IntelliJ. Does anyone have experience of using non-eclipse IDEs with RTC?

  Seems Adobe ignores strong movement now towards the productive programming. E.g. flash builder ide lacks keyboard shortcuts that are very useful in eclipse. If code templates, extract method, extract local variables are covered by some not-free plugins (and not cheap) like source mate, expanding selection to enclosing element I cannot find how to enable. Maybe you guys know some plugins doing that? Usually in eclipse it is Alt Shift Up to select enclosing block.

• MXMLC and 64bit JRE

  Are there any workarounds to get the Flex compiler to work with a 64bit JRE? If I use an MXMLC task in an Ant buildfile in Eclipse it works fine but if I try to use MXMLC from the command line (or try the Run... command from FDT in Eclipse) it fails, telling me ... "Error loading: C:\Program Files\Java\jrrt-1.6.0\jre\bin\jrockit\jvm.dll" (this is with a 64bit JRockit runtime but that shouldn't matter).

  I'm a long-time Eclipse user and I just now decided to try IntelliJ IDEA 9 (free edition) for Scala. A couple of dumb questions: How can I tell if a file I've modified has been saved? How can I tell if I file I've saved has been checked into CVS? I feel incredibly "exposed" to some sort of imminent danger when I don't see the familiar visual cues from Eclipse that indicate a file has been saved and/or checked in. Thanks

  Is there something similar to the Eclipse cleanup rules ((Preferences Java Code Style Clean Up) in NetBeans? The cleanup rules in eclipse will allow you to clean things up like organizing imports, removing unnecessary casts, adding missing override annotations etc. Also can you do that on a whole set of classes/packages instead of individual classes?

So i decided to use the android framework layouts but i can't use them It seems that if i write android.R.drawable.timepicker_input or other timepicker related drawables i get them this Eclipse error: android.R.drawable.timepicker_up_btn cannot be resolved So i tried to import all the pngs and xml from the android source but eclipse says there is an error in the manifest regarding the icon.   I called my main activity Main, and Eclipse created Main.java and res/layout/main.xml for the layout. Is there any reason why Eclipse dropped the uppercase "M" for the layout file? Was I wrong to use upper case M for the name of my Main class (a Java convention, types start with uppercase, objects with lower case)?

• Why are my resources suddenly unresolved in my Android project?

• maven project with netbeans compiles fully on every run

  I was experimenting with Netbeans 6.8 (I'm currently an Eclipse user) because I like having a profiler built into the IDE. It seems that for maven projects, netbeans does a full compile (it invokes process-classes) every time I try to run the project, as opposed to Eclipse, which uses the incremental Java compiler. Is there a way to avoid having netbeans run mvn process-classes every time I want to run the main class? thanks, Jeff

• weblogic runs differently!

  hi all i have configured myeclipse for running weblogic via it. it can be run but there is a problem! i have written a project and deployed it to the container. when i am running weblogic server without my eclipse it works fine but when i am run it via myeclipse i get the pagenotfoundException! i have weblogic ver 10.3 and my eclipse ver 7.5 is any help? thanks

• DCVS + hosting for a startup commercial multiplatform phone app

  I'm in lean startup mode, working on a simple phone app that will be published initially as a iThingy app and an Android app with, possibly, Blackberry and Symbian versions to follow. I'm about to go from no repository to needing a central repository that up to 4 very part-time resources will be sharing. Two of us have no version control background, one has used Subversion, and I've used most of the major centralized VCS systems. I'm not going to be pushing the technical limitations of any VCS for a long time; I'm sure that any of the major systems would work fine. And the hosting accounts I've looked at seem reasonable. So I'm really focussed on minimizing the downside risks. That is, I'd like to find a stable setup that is easy to learn in general, easy to use from Windows/Eclipse, and won't paint me into any obvious corners for the next 12 months or so. A quick search of the web had led me to consider the following pairs of DVCS and hosting service, with what I think I'm hearing as their strengths and weaknesses (for my purposes): Bazaar/Launchpad -- My initial choice since I need to get more familiar with this pair for the Google Summer of Code mentoring I'm doing. But, whatever the technical merits, a non-starter for me because they are purely open source, no private repositories plans to purchase that I can see. Git/GitHub -- Git: Fast, light, ultimately flexible, but relatively less Windows friendly, Eclipse plugin (eGit) available but relatively young, GitHub: widely used, pricing is fine Mercurial/BitBucket -- Mercurial: a little less flexible, a little more Windows friendly, Eclipse plugin seems a bit more mature, BitBucket: widely used, pricing is fine, includes a wiki and an issue tracker that we might be able to use instead of something like BaseCamp, at least for a while. Mercurial/BitBucket seem like the winning pair so far for my particular situation; at least two of us are definitely going to be working mostly from Eclipse on Windows and reducing my own learning curve is a priority. ;-) But I have two specific questions: 1) Am I wrong about Bazaar/Launchpad and is there a viable, secure way to use them for proprietary code? 2) Any reason to think that the Mecurial/Bitbucket pair will end up being a headache for my Mac developer, soon, or for Blackberry or Symbian developers a little later? ag

Eclipse always showed a little hard disk symbol over the file icon for files that were in sync with the svn repository, and an asterisk for files with changes that have not been committed. Is there a way to see the commit status in NetBeans? If not, what is your preferred way of recognizing which files to commit?
