• jQuery UI " $("#datepicker").datepicker is not a function"

  When i use DatePicker, jQuery's UI plugin, in an existing .aspx page i get errors that "$("#datepicker").datepicker is not a function". However, when I copy and paste the same code that creates and uses the DatePicker to an html file that's also in the same directory as the aspx page, it works flawlessly. This leads me to assume that there are some JS files in the aspx page that's preventing the DatePicker or maybe jQuery's UI JS files to load properly. Can anyone confirm my beliefs or provide any tips on finding the culprit that's interfering with jQuery's UI plugins?

• Article search engine in php

  Hello, I am using sphinx as a search engine on my website its working perfect and I have no complain with it. The only thing it lacks is, it does not allow me to search articles whose query length is more than 15 words. I know in reality people don't use more than 3-4 words i want to use it for finding duplicate contents. I was wondering if there is any alternative solution to sphinx. I want to cope with duplicate contents. My main articles table is in innodb but I am also caching articles into MyISAM table as well for full text searching but when I search an article it takes ages to perform one search. Its not the query problem, i think mysql lacks the fulltext searching facility. Thanks Jason

  I need to read and write data from an Excel spreadsheet. Is there a method to finding out how many rows/columns a certain worksheet has using ExcelPackage? I have the following code: FileInfo newFile = new FileInfo(@"C:\example.xlsx"); using (ExcelPackage xlPackage = new ExcelPackage(newFile)) { ExcelWorksheet worksheet = xlPackage.Workbook.Worksheets[1]; } I need to iterate through each cell this worksheet has and spit it into a fairly big table, but I don't want to print out blank cells or get an exception. Is there a method resembling worksheet.rowNum or colNum?

• Webrat says it can't find some text, but the text is actually there

  I have a webpage that has a form button on it called "delete", and a cuke scenario that has the line: And I should see "delete" When I run the scenario, I get this error: expected the following element's content to include "delete" ...and it dumps the webrat page to stdout and the "delete" is, in fact, not there. So far so good. However, when I tell webrat to show me the page before the error happens: Then show me the page And I should see "delete" ...Safari fires up and shows me the page, and in Safari there's the "delete" button, totally there. Why is webrat not finding the form button? I've also had this same problem with form fields, such as text inputs that have a value in them when the page loads, but webrat says there's nothing there. Looking at it in Safari shows, again, that the field does have the right text in it. Is this a bug, or is webrat just not suitable for checking form elements? Is there a different way to do this? • Tracking Google Analytics events with server side request automation

  I'm currently in the process of programming an utility which generates GA tracking pixel (utm.gif) URL:s based on given parameters. For those of you who are wondering why I'm doing this on the server side, I need to do this server side since the context which I'm going to start tracking simply doesn't support JavaScript and as such ga.js is completely useless to me. I have managed to get it working otherwise quite nicely but I've hit a snag: I can't track events or custom variables because I have no idea how exactly the utme parameter's value should be structured to form a valid event or var type hit. GA's own documentation on this parameter isn't exactly that great, either. I've tried everything from Googling without finding anything (which I find ironic) to reverse engineering ga.js, unfortunately it's minified and quite unreadable because of that. The "mobile" version of GA didn't help either since officially GA mobile doesn't support events nor vars. To summarize, what is the format of the utme parameter for page hit types event and custom variable?

• How to call web service with Android

  I am having a lot of trouble finding good information on how to call a standard SOAP/WSDL web service with Android. All I've been able to find are either very convoluted documents and references to "kSoap2" and then some bit about parsing it all manually with SAX. ... Ok, that's fine but it's 2008 so I figured there should be some good library for calling standard web services. The Web Service is just basically one created in NetBeans. I would like to have IDE support for generating the plumbing classes. I just need the easiest/most-elegant way to contact a WSDL based web service from an Android based phone. Thanks.

  Hey, I've been wondering to try out server-side javascript for a while. And I'm finding a good amount of servers, like: Node.js Rhino SpiderMonkey among others. Could anyone with experience on server-side javascript, tell me which are the best engines? and why? I like the Node.js because it's based on Google's V8 engine. And seems easy to use. But some feedback on what you would choose would be great. Edit: Some benchmarks for Node. I'm thinking on going with this one but feedback is still welcome. Thanks

• How to use Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll to get the site information the page is running on?

  I have a half dozen sites on my server and I would like to get some info from IIS7 to display in the footer of each page (as long as you are an admin of course). I am going through the ServerObject and found Sites but am not finding anything obvious for "this site". What should I do to get at the information for the exact site in IIS7 that the page is running on?   Simply put: I have a database design in my head and I now want to use Visual Studio 2010 to create a WPF application. Key is to use the VS2010 tools to take much as possible manual work out of my hands. -The database engine is SQLite -ORM probably through DBLINQ -Use of LINQ -The application can create new, empty database instances -Easily maintainable (changes in data model possible) Q- How do I start designing the database model (visually) in Visual Studio 2010? Should this be an xsd? Do I do this in a separate project? Q- Next, how can I make the most use of VS2010 code generation tools to generate a business layer? Q- I suppose the business layer will be added as a Data Source (in another project?) and from there it's a rather generic data binding solution? I tried finding clear examples of this but it's a jungle out there, the hunt for a solution is NOT converging to one clear method.... :_(

• C# Pragma to suppress break on thrown error

  First off I run my applications with exceptions thrown on any error (handled or not). Second I am using a TypeConverter to convert from a user input string to the actual object. I'm hoping there may be some way to disable breaking for the section of code within the try without changing my exception settings.

• Simple comet example using php and jquery

  I have searched on google for hours without finding a good and simple example of the comet technique using PHP. I just need an example that uses a persistent HTTP connection or something similar. I dont want to use a polling technique because I have something like that set up and not only is it difficult to work with and manage its a big hog of resources. Also I am using IIS7 not Apache. • Dectect ASCII codes for asian double byte / cyrillic character sets?

  Is it possible to detect if an ascii character belongs to Asian double byte or Cyrillic character sets? Perhaps specific code ranges? I've googled, but not finding anything at first glance. There's an RSS feed I'm tapping into that has the locale set as 'en-gb'. But there are some Asian double byte characters in the feed itself - which I need to handle differently. Just not sure how to detect it since the meta locale data is incorrect. I do not have access to correct the public feed.

• Returning form errors for AJAX request in Django

  Hi Guys, I've been finding my way around Django and jQuery. I've built a basic form in Django. On clicking submit, I'm using jQuey to make an AJAX request to the sever to post my data. This bit seems to work fine and I've managed to save the data. Django returns a ValidatioError when a form is invalid. Could anyone tell me how to return this set of error messages as a response to my AJAX request so i can easily iterate through it using JS and do whatever? I found this snippet. Looking at the JS bit (processJson) you'll see that he seems to get the error messages by extracting them from the response HTML. It seems kinda kludgy to me. Is this a best way to go about it? My apologies for any vagueness. Thanks in advance.

• Missing Menu Bar in Visual Studio 2010

  When I opened up Visual Studio 2010 this morning, my Menu Bar (you know, the bar with File, Edit, etc. on it) was missing. I've tried all of the right-click menus, customize options, Function keys and Google searches that I can think of but to no avail. This is exactly the kind of humiliation that brings sobriety to my ever-growing ego as a developer. I'm actually posting this on StackOverflow.com for the world to see. Next, I will be just as humiliated when someone replies to this and tells me precisely how simple it is and how ignorant that I am for not knowing the simple key combination or finding it on Google. • Is it easier to write a recursive-descent parser using an EBNF or a BNF?

  I've got a BNF and EBNF for a grammar. The BNF is obviously more verbose. I have a fairly good idea as far as using the BNF to build a recursive-descent parser; there are many resources for this. I am having trouble finding resources to convert an EBNF to a recursive-descent parser. Is this because it's more difficult? I recall from my CS theory classes that we went over EBNFs, but we didn't go over converting them into a recursive-descent parser. We did go over converting BNF's into a recursive-descent parser. The reason I'm asking is because the EBNF is more compact. From looking at the EBNF's in general, I notice that terms enclosed between { and } can be converted into a while loop. Are there any other guidelines or rules?

• Objective-C RGB to HSB

  Let's say I've got the colour FF0000, which is red. Finding a darker colour is easy, I just type maybe CC instead of the FF, but let's say I've got the colour AE83FC, which is a complicated colour, how the heck would I find a lighter or darker version of it automatically? I figured the easy way to do this is to convert my RGB to HSB [Hue, Saturation, Brightness] How would I do that in Objective-C? Let's say I've got a RGB which is: 1.0, 0.0, 0.0. That's red. CGFloat r = 1.0; CGFloat g = 0.0; CGfloat b = 0.0; How would I convert that to HSB and then transform the colors and make it go back to RGB to I can use CGContextRGBSetFillColor? Are there any HSB functions? Please help. :)

I can model this in Django with the following: class Tag(models.Model): name = models.CharField(10) class Data(models.Model): tags = models.ManyToManyField(Tag) Given a set of strings, what's the best way to go about finding all Data objects that have one of these strings as the name of a tag in their tag list. I've come up with the following, but can't help thinking there is a more "Djangonic" way. • Zedgraph - determine length of tic on an axis ?

  In Zedgraph building a line chart. I have some requirements for axes labels which can't be produced automatically so inspired by this other Stackoverflow answer I'm building a custom axis. I can draw the Axis OK and I can place the labels but I want to draw my own tics. To do this I'd like to know the colour/pen width/size etc of the tics on the other axes. Determining the colour and pen width are no problem but finding out the length of a tic is difficult (I mean how long is it drawn away from the axis). I'm using a LineObj to draw the custom tics but I can't figure out how to long to draw them to match other non-custom tics . Does anyone know where this is defined (or have a smarter way of drawing your own tics than using LineObjs ?)

  I'm using the ACE OLEDB driver to read from an Excel 2007 spreadsheet, and I'm finding that any '.' character in column names get converted to a '#' character. For example, if I have the following in a spreadsheet: Name Amt. • How do you include additional files using VS2010 web deployment packages?

  I am testing out using the new web packaging functionality in visual studio 2010 and came across a situation where I use a pre-build event to copy required .dll's into my bin folder that my app relies on for API calls. They cannot be included as a reference since they are not COM dlls that can be used with interop. When I build my deployment package those files are excluded when I choose the option to only include the files required to run the app. Is there a way to configure the deployment settings to include these files? I have had no luck finding any good documentation on this.
