  • Command line tool in python in a fixed root directory ...

    I would like to install my python application as a command line tool that should work entirelly inside the install directory (for example C:\Python26\Lib\site-packages\application) The problem is I would like to reffer in runtime to the submodules and resources from within the application directory three. If I install the app with [console_scripts] option the default path is the current directory. Is there a elegant way to keep the current execution path of the application to the site-packages directory? Thanks

    I have a UITableView containing names that I would like to group (and sort) by the first letter (similar to the Address Book application). I am currently able to match any section ('A'-'Z') using: // Sections is an array of strings "{search}" and "A" to "Z" and "#". I tried constructing a REGEX match using: [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"name matches '[^a-zA-Z].*'"]; But this fails for diacritic-alpha (duplicate rows appear).   • Implementing a modern web application with Web API on top of old services

    My company has many WCF services which may or may not be replaced in the near future. The old web application is written in WebForms and communicates straight with these services via SOAP and returns DataTables. Now I am designing a new modern web application in a modern style, an AngularJS client which communicates with an ASP.NET Web API via JSON. The Web API then communicates with the WCF services via SOAP. In the future I want to let the Web API handle all requests and go straight to the database, but because the business logic implemented in the WCF services is complicated it's going to take some time to rewrite and replace it. Now to the problem: I'm trying to make it easy in the near future to replace the WCF services with some other data storage, e.g. another endpoint, database or whatever. I also want to make it easy to unit test the business logic. That's why I have structured the Web API with a repository layer and a service layer. The repository layer has a straight communication with the data storage (WCF service, database, or whatever) and the service layer then uses the repository (Dependency Injection) to get the data. It doesn't care where it gets the data from. Later on I can be in control and structure the data returned from the data storage (DataTable to POCO) and be able to test the logic in the service layer with some mock repository (using Dependency Injection). Below is some code to explain where I'm going with this. But my question is, does this all make sense? Am I making this overly complicated and could this be simplified in any way possible? Does this simplicity make this too complicated to maintain? My main goal is to make it as easy as possible to switch to another data storage later on, e.g. an ORM and be able to test the logic in the service layer. And because the majority of the business logic is implemented in these WCF services (and they return DataTables), I want to be in control of the data and the structure returned to the client. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Update 20/08/14 I created a repository factory, so services would all share repositories. Now it's easy to mock a repository, add it to the factory and create a provider using that factory. Any advice is much appreciated. I want to know if I'm making things more complicated than they should be. So it looks like this: 1.   • Switch between multiple views while respecting orientation

    Hello! I have an MVC application with a single model and several views (something like skins). I want the user to be able to switch the views and I can’t get it working with interface orientation. The most simple approach looks like this: - (void) switchToADifferentView: (UIView*) newView { // self is a descendant of UIViewController self.view = newView; } This does not work because the incoming view does not get rotated according to current orientation (until the next orientation change, test case). Is there a way to force the orientation on a view? It looks like the system is trying really hard to keep the interface controls for itself. (Or is it as simple as setting the right transform by hand?) I figured I’d better not switch the views directly and switch controllers instead. This makes sense, as it makes the initial code simpler. But how do I switch controllers that have no “navigation relation” between them? I guess I could use presentModalViewController:, but that seems like a hack. Same goes for navigation controller. If I exchange the controllers by hand, I get the wrong orientation again: - (void) switchToAController: (id) incoming { [currentController.view removeFromSuperview]; [window addSubview:incoming.view]; // does not respect current orientation } Now how the heck do I simply exchange the current controller for another one? Again, the controllers are something like “skins” operating above a shared model, so it really makes no sense to pretend that skin A is a “modal” dialog above skin B or that they’re a part of a navigation stack.

  • Logging errors caused by exceptions deep in the application

    What are best-practices for logging deep within an application's source? Is it bad practice to have multiple event log entries for a single error? For example, let's say that I have an ETL system whose transform step involves: a transformer, pipeline, processing algorithm, and processing engine. In brief, the transformer takes in an input file, parses out records, and sends the records through the pipeline. The pipeline aggregates the results of the processing algorithm (which could do serial or parallel processing). The processing algorithm sends each record through one or more processing engines. So, I have at least four levels: Transformer - Pipeline - Algorithm - Engine. DOS?) Thrown exceptions contain all important and useful information Logging only happens when failure to do so would cause loss of useful information at a lower level. Thoughts and concerns: I don't like having so many log entries for each error I don't want to lose important, useful data; the exceptions contain all the important but the stacktrace is typically the only thing displayed besides the message. I can log at different levels (e.g., warning, informational) The higher level classes should be completely unaware of the structure of the lower-level exceptions (which may change as the different implementations are replaced). The information available at higher levels should not be passed to the lower levels. So, to restate the main questions: What are best-practices for logging deep within an application's source? Is it bad practice to have multiple event log entries for a single error?

  • MapView EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) and KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS

    I'm having some 'issues' with my application... well, it crashes in an UIViewController that is presented modally, there the user enters information through UITextFields and his location is tracked by a MapView. Lets call this view controller "MapViewController" When the user submits the form, I call a different ViewController - modally again - that processes this info and a third one answers accordingly, then go back to a MenuVC using unwinding segues, which then calls MapViewController and so on. This sequence is repeated many times, but it always crashes in MapViewController. Looking at the crash log, I think that the MapView can be the problem of this or some element in the UI (because of the UIKit framework). I tried to use NSZombie in order to track a memory issue but it doesn't give me a clue about whats happening.   • Correct way to switch between UIView with ARC. My way leads to memory leaks :( (iOS)

    i use xcode 4.4 with ARC on.. I have dynamically created UIViews in the ViewController.m: UIView*myviews[10]; Then in the - (void)viewDidLoad function i fill each of it with pictures i need myviews[viewIndex] = [[UIView alloc]initWithFrame:myrec]; UIImage *testImg; UIImageView * testImgView; testImg = [UIImage imageNamed:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"imgarray%d.png", viewIndex]; testImgView.image = testImg; viewindex++; So all seems to be fine, when i want to jump from one view to another i do with two buttons next: [self.view addSubview:views[viewIndex]]; CATransition *animation = [CATransition animation]; [animation setDelegate:self]; [animation setDuration:1.0f]; [animation setType:@"rippleEffect"]; [animation setSubtype:kCATransitionFromTop]; //[animation setTimingFunction:[CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseInEaseOut]]; [self.view.layer addAnimation:animation forKey:@"transitionViewAnimation"]; Nothing seems to be bad, but the memory consumption grows with huge speed when i switch between views.. and then i get low memory warning or sometimes application will just crash. I have tried to use UIViewController array and was switching between the controllers: nothing changes, the memory low warning is what i end up with.. Maybe i need to clean the memory somehow? But how? ARC does not allow to use release and so on.. last what i have tried (sorry, maybe not very professional) before to add new subview is this NSArray *viewsToRemove = [self.view subviews]; for (UIView *views in viewsToRemove) { [views removeFromSuperview]; } But this does not help either.. Please don't judge too strong, i am still new to iOS and Objective-c..

When i try to access the application i get the following error, SD card error,Application cant access the SD card while its mounted.Please unmount the device and stop the adb server before launching the application. i have tried to unmount the SD card in the emulator but i am unable to do that.
