  • Can a custom MFC window/dialog be a class template instantiation?

    There's a bunch of special macros that MFC uses when creating dialogs, and in my quick tests I'm getting weird errors trying to compile a template dialog class. Is this likely to be a big pain to achieve? Note my code is all in one file, since C++ templates don't like .h/.cpp like normal. I'm assuming someone must have done this in the past, possibly creating custom versions of macros, but I can't find it by searching, since 'template' has other meanings.

  • How do you have grayed out text in a textfield that dissapears when the user clicks on it

    In HTML & JS, how do you make a textfield that has grayed out text telling the user what the field is for that goes away when the user clicks on the field? For example, in firefox the search field in the top right hand side says which search engine it uses when there's nothing entered, then once you click it's an empty textfield, but if you leave it blank and remove focus from the textfield then the grayed out text is back again. Is there a name for this behavior? Also, is it possible to do in pure css without the use of js to do the on focus / on blur events?

    I would like to use the facilities provided by stringstream to extract values from a fixed-format string as a type-safe alternative to sscanf. How can I do this? Consider the following specific use case. I have a std::string in the following fixed format: YYYYMMDDHHMMSSmmm Where: YYYY = 4 digits representing the year MM = 2 digits representing the month ('0' padded to 2 characters) DD = 2 digits representing the day ('0' padded to 2 characters) HH = 2 digits representing the hour ('0' padded to 2 characters) MM = 2 digits representing the minute ('0' padded to 2 characters) SS = 2 digits representing the second ('0' padded to 2 characters) mmm = 3 digits representing the milliseconds ('0' padded to 3 characters) Previously I was doing something along these lines: string s = "20101220110651184"; unsigned year = 0, month = 0, day = 0, hour = 0, minute = 0, second = 0, milli = 0; sscanf(s.c_str(), "%4u%2u%2u%2u%2u%2u%3u", &year, &month, &day, &hour, &minute, &second, &milli ); The width values are magic numbers, and that's ok. I'd like to use streams to extract these values and convert them to unsigneds in the interest of type safety. But when I try this: stringstream ss; ss << "20101220110651184"; ss >> setw(4) >> year; year retains the value 0. It should be 2010. How do I do what I'm trying to do? I can't use Boost or any other 3rd party library, nor can I use C++0x.

  • Servlet response wrapper has encoding problem

    A servlet response wrapper is being used in a Servlet Filter. The idea is that the response is manipulated, with a 'nonce' value being injected into forms, as part of defence against CSRF attacks. The web app is using UTF-8 everywhere. When the Servlet Filter is absent, no problems. When the filter is added, encoding issues occur. (It seems as if the response is reverting to 8859-1.) That is done here, as you can see, in two places. The value of the 'encoding' variable is 'UTF-8'; the alteration of the String itself is standard string manipulation (with a regex), and never specifies an encoding (addHiddenParamToPostedForms). Where am I in error about the encoding?   • PHP / Windows - Opendir() fails opening subdirectories within symbolic linked directories

    Does anyone know a solution to this problem? I'm unable to open a subdirectory within a symboliclink'd directory. I've confirmed that the paths are correct (even copy & pasted the path into explorer, which parsed it fine). This is a strange, annoying, bug :|.   • Django Show M2M field in both model forms

    Hi I am using the forms.ModelForm to create my form. I want to be able to show the manytomany field in both model forms, how do I do this? If the manytomany relationship is defined in the model it is fine and just appears but if it is not in the model (but is still linked via the other model) it does not appear. Hope this makes sense.     In a MySQL query I am using the timediff/time_to_sec functions to calculate the total minutes between two date-times. For example: 2010-03-23 10:00:00 - 2010-03-23 08:00:00 = 120 minutes What I would like to do is exclude any breaks that occur during the selected time range. For example: 2010-03-23 10:00:00 - 2010-03-23 08:00:00 - (break 08:55:00 to 09:10:00) = 105 minutes Is there a good method to do this without resorting to a long list of nested IF statements?

  • Is my code really not unit-testable?

    A lot of code in a current project is directly related to displaying things using a 3rd-party 3D rendering engine. As such, it's easy to say "this is a special case, you can't unit test it". But I wonder if this is a valid excuse... it's easy to think "I am special" but rarely actually the case. Are there types of code which are genuinely not suited for unit-testing? By suitable, I mean "without it taking longer to figure out how to write the test than is worth the effort"... dealing with a ton of 3D math/rendering it could take a lot of work to prove the output of a function is correct compared with just looking at the rendered graphics.

    I have an html table nested in an html table cell. I want the nested table to use the full size of the cell it is nested in. When I use firefox or google chrome I get the result I want but when I use Internet Explorer 8 (even if I use td style="height="100%") the height of the nested cell depends on it's content. As a result I get whitespace before and after my nested table.

  • Write a dll that is accessable from VS 2003 VC++ code

    I need to be able to write a DLL in either C# or VC++ that is accessible from code that is written in Visual Studio 2003 VC++. It looks like the code is unmanaged (uses * for pointers) VC++ and this DLL needs to be able to drop right in and be accessed by the current code. The DLL is an RS232 driver that needs to be able to return an int for an error code and pass back, by reference, some measured values, to the calling program. Will I even be able to write this in C#? If not, I only have access to Visual Studio 2005 or 2008. Will I be able to write my code in either, and will that DLL be able to be called from the current code base? Or do I have to go looking on ebay for a copy of VS 2003?

  • How can I return an object into PHP userspace from my extension?

    I have a C++ object, Graph, which contains a property named cat of type Category. I'm exposing the Graph object to PHP in an extension I'm writing in C++. As long as the Graph's methods return primitives like boolean or long, I can use the Zend RETURN_*() macros (e.g. RETURN_TRUE(); or RETURN_LONG(123);. But how can I make Graph-getCategory(); return a Category object for the PHP code to manipulate?   • Battery drains even with app off screen, could it be Location Services doing it?

    I run my app, which uses GPS and Bluetooth, then hit the back button so it goes off screen. I verified via LogCat that the app's onDestroy was called. OnDestroy removes the location listeners and shuts down my app's Bluetooth service. I look at the phone 8 hours later and half the battery charge has been consumed, and my app was responsible according the phone's Battery Use screen. If I use the phone's Settings menu to Force Stop the app, this doesn't occur. So my question is: do I need to do something more than remove the listeners to stop Location Services from consuming power? That's the only thing I can think of that would be draining the battery to that degree when the app is supposedly dormant.   • Jquery disable link for 5 seconds

    I have this code: $('#page-refresh').click( function() { $.ajax({ url: "/page1.php", cache: false, dataType: "html", success: function(data) { $('#pagelist').html(data); } }); return false; }); In this code is it possible that on the ajax success function it disables the #page-refresh click for 5 seconds then re-enable it? Basically if a person clicks the button and this action happens I dont want them to click and run this action again for another 5 seconds. I looked at delay() to unbind the click for this then bind it again but once it unbinded it never allowed me to click the button anymore.

Or Java prevents that?

    Searching online, I see lots of people asking for features to have multiple levels of sub-tasks, and proper sub-task functionality (like FogBugz). But I don't know if it's planned in future versions, or if plugins exist to provide this functionality. Does anyone know?
