SOLVED Install MythTV & 11.10 on Lenovo S12 (Intel atom) with wireless

This is how I installed Ubuntu 11.10 and MythTV client on my Lenovo S12 (Intel Atom) laptop and use it using WiFi (see additional notes at end). I did this because the upgrade from 11.04 bricked the laptop. Note that the partitions on the Lenovo standard disk were already in place for this installation. Also note that my LAN is setup for fixed IP addresses. Downloaded and burned 11.10 x86 Desktop Ubuntu CD Connected the power supply cord, LAN wire and the external DVD USB drive. Ran Windows XP and made sure performance level "Performance" was set and "Wireless" was enabled. Booted S12 from CD Disabled Networking from icon on upper left panel icon Edited Connections… "Wired connection 1" ? Set IP address, accepted default netmask and set gateway. Also set DNS server. Good idea to check "Connection Information" here to verify everything's O.K. Selected Install Ubuntu from the initial "Install" window Verified the three items were checked (required disk space available, plugged into a power source, & connected to the Internet) Selected Download updates while installing and third party software. Hit Continue… At wireless selected don't want to connect…WiFi…now. Continue… At Installation type, selected Something else. Continue… At partition tale, selected the ext4 Linux partition, set the mount point as "/", and marked for formatting. Here I selected the main disk (/sda) for installing the boot manager. Continue… Selected or verified my Time zone. Continue… Selected my keyboard layout. Continue… Filled in the who are you fields. Make sure password is required to sign in is checked. Continue… Chose a picture. Continue… I selected import no accounts. Continue… Wait as the Install creeps along. If your screen goes blank, tap the space bar ? apparently the screen saver/power plan does this. There are several progress bars. The longest was "Installing system", and it was the next to the last one. Installation Complete window appears, Restart Now… Wait as it stops, The screen blanks then the message "…remove…media…close tray…press enter" I just unplugged the USB DVD and hit enter… It was disheartening but the screen turned Ubuntu Purple-beige and nothing happened, so I help down the power key until it shut down, the pressed it again and the Grub Boot screen appeared. Select Ubuntu… 25.The screen went blank with the little flashing underscore cursor on it and the disk light would occasionally flash. I hit the enter key and eventuality Ubuntu started. After a somewhat long time the unity desktop appeared. 11.10, unlike earlier versions, retains the connection information. Check this by checking the network icon on the upper left applet panel. Here the touch-pad·mouse quit working and I had to reboot. It takes and extremely long time to boot, sometimes requiring several power off/ power on (cold boot). You can try to get the default network manager to work, but it might not, it didn't on mine for WiFi. Thanks to: Chris at URL here's what to do… disconnect your wired Internet connection. input your wireless information into network manager open a terminal (unity dash, top of icon totem, open, and make sure the ruler&pen icon on the bottom is selected, 2nd from left) type in "terminal". Might be a good idea to drag and drop the terminal icon to the terminal, it's easy to get rid of later. click to open a terminal, and type in: sudo rmmod acer_wmi && echo "blacklist acer_wmi" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and hit enter. type in your password as asked. if you have correctly entered your WiFi information and you are near your AP, you should connect immediately if not, see the URL above ? you might need to replace "network manager" with "wicd" ? I did with 11.04. Update the new 11.10, in the upper left panel applet weird·gear icon is menu with a line about updating. It's the new way to invoke Update Manager. Your lenovo S12 (intel atom) should now run the new unity Ubuntu. Point your elbow at the ceiling and pat yourself on the back. Installing Mythbuntu Client 24.1 Open mythbuntu.org/repos (I urge you not to directly use Ubuntu Software Center for this) Install Mythbuntu Repos Save the file (in ~/Downloads, the default) Run the file ? it will update your repositories so that you will get the proper installation sources ? it will start Ubuntu Software Center to do this ? Click Install… You will need your password. Debconf window will open, select by making sure check mark is in the little box "Would you like to activate…". Forward… Which version? At the time of writing the current "Stable" version was 24.1, select 0.24.x… Forward… Read the message, then forward… Delete the downloaded file. Install synaptic (unity dash, top of icon totem, open, and make sure the ruler&pen icon on the bottom is selected, 2nd from left) type in "synaptic". Click on the synaptic icon. Ubuntu Software Center will open and allow you to install synaptic package manager. Open Synaptic (unity dash, top of icon totem, open, and make sure the ruler&pen icon on the bottom is selected, 2nd from left) type in "Synaptic". Might be a good idea to drag and drop the terminal icon to the terminal, it's easy to get rid of later. Run synaptic, read the intro, and close the intro window. Type in mythbuntu-control-centre in the Quick filter text box, and then select it "Mark for installation" by clicking on the box next to it's name. Marvel at the additional to be installed items, then select "?Mark"… At the top of the synaptic window click on the "? Apply" button. Marvel at the amount of stuff to be installed, the click on "Apply". When finished, close finished window and synaptic. Open mythbuntu-control-centre (unity dash, top of icon totem, open, and make sure the ruler&pen icon on the bottom is selected, 2nd from left) type in "mythbuntu". Might be a good idea to drag and drop the mythbuntu-control-centre icon to the terminal, it's easy to get rid of later. You can now configure and install the frontend. Go down the icon totem on the right side of the window and click as needed… System roles. ? No Backend, Desktop Frontend, and Ubuntu Desktop. Apply… & Apply changes… & Password… MySQL Configuration ? from backend ? Setup General Alt-N(ext) Alt-N(ext) Stetting Access Setup PIN code: ~~~~ Input Security key and click "Test Connection", if ?, then Apply… & Apply… {note: for some inexplicable reason, control centre hung on this, but when I restarted it, it was set properly} Graphics drivers, When I did this, only the Broadcom wireless driver showed up. I closed without doing anything. Services. I enabled SSH & Samba. Apply… & Apply… Repositories. Asked & Answered. MythExport. Pass, I believe it requires backend on the same system. Proprietary Codec Support. Check to enable, Apply… & Apply… System Updates. No action necessary, will be a part of the Ubuntu update mechanism. Themes and Artwork. For themes, I selected Enable/Update all. Apply… & Apply… Infrared & Startup behavior and Plugins. Defer until you know more. Close software centre. Open mythTV (unity dash, top of icon totem, open, and make sure the ruler&pen icon on the bottom is selected, 2nd from left) type in "mythTV". Might be a good idea to drag and drop the mythTV icon to the terminal, it's easy to get rid of later. Incorrect Group Membership. Fix this by clicking "Yes"… Log out/end. Do this by clicking "Yes"… For my Lenovo S12, I had to manually restart Ubuntu - and still with the very long restart…/no start/cold boot/reboot/pressing the shift key required Open mythTV (unity dash, top of icon totem, open, and make sure the ruler&pen icon on the bottom is selected, 2nd from left) type in "mythTV". Might be a good idea to drag and drop the mythTV icon to the terminal, it's easy to get rid of later. Will open with Select country & language. Do so. then get message with "No", hit "Ok" and arrive at the data base Configuration 1/2 screen. You will need your brackend password, from backend ? Setup General Database Configuration 1/2 Password:~? Enter this Hit Alt-n to go to the next page. Select "Use custom id…", then enter a custom ID, I use the machine's name. Hit finish, and MythTV should start up with all default settings. For the lenovo S12, the first thing you want to do is to set Playback profiles to "Normal". From Setup TV Settings Playback Alt-N(ext) Alt-N(ext) Playback Profiles (3/8) : Change Current Video Playback Profile to "Normal". You can fiddle with this setting later. For the lenovo S12, the second thing is to get the sound going. From Setup General Alt-N(ext) Alt-N(ext) Alt-N(ext) Audio System: The top of the screen is a button title "Scan for audio devices", move the highlight there and press the Space bar. Then Tab down to Audio Output Device: and left-right arrow until "ALSA:hw:Card=Intel,DEV=0" is selected. Then Alt-N(ext) until "Finish". Now you should have sound. You should now have MythTV working nicely on the Lenovo S12 Notes about wireless: Running Lenovo S12 on wireless is demanding on both power and WiFi connection. Best results will be obtained when running on power and wired connection. I run my S12 on wireless, actually two serial connections with two access points, something that is not easy to achieve. Set up DD-WRT with the following Wireless settings… Basic Channel: Different fixed channels at least 4 difference, I use 6 & 11 Basic Sensitivity Range (ACK timing): 50 MAC filter use filter: Enable, Selected Permit only clients listed to access… Requires adding MAC addresses in "Edit MAC Filter List" This causes the 54GL's to ignore any but the listed MAC address, down side, no "guest" capability. Advanced Basic rate: All Advanced CTS Protection Mode: Off Advanced Frame Burst: Enable Advanced Max associate clients: 4 for client link 2, 1 for client-server link 1 Advanced AP isolation: Enable Advanced Preamble: Short Advanced Afterburner: On Advanced Wireless GUI access: Off Advanced WMM support: Off Other settings: default for supplied firmware. Why I suspect this worked? The 54GL Access Points's with the firmware's setting are set to handle a multiple client, wide area situation. With these mods I reconfigured them for a small area, few client situation, disabling Advanced WMM probably the most important. In addition, the client mythtv when used all other users of its access point are turned off except for a Skype phone. Also, the client-server is set up to allow other connections though it's LAN connection, and these are used to connect the TV and disc players, not used when client is being used.

File Watcher Task

The task will detect changes to existing files as well as new files, both actions will cause the file to be found when available. A file is available when the task can open it exclusively. This is important for files that take a long time to be written, such as large files, or those that are just written slowly or delivered via a slow network link. It can also be set to look for existing files first (1.2.4.55). The full path of the found file is returned in up to three ways: The ExecValueVariable of the task. This can be set to any String variable. The OutputVariableName when specified. This can be set to any String variable. The FullPath variable within OnFileFoundEvent. This is a File Watcher Task specific event. Advanced warning of a file having been detected, but not yet available is returned through the OnFileWatcherEvent. This event does not always coincide with the completion of the task, as completion and the OnFileFoundEvent is delayed until the file is ready for use. This event indicates that a file has been detected, and that file will now be monitored until it becomes available. The task will only detect and report on the first file that is created or changes, any subsequent changes will be ignored. Task properties and there usages are documented below: Property Data Type Description Filter String Default filter *.* will watch all files. Standard windows wildcards and patterns can be used to restrict the files monitored. FindExistingFiles Boolean Indicates whether the task should check for any existing files that match the path and filter criteria, before starting the file watcher. IncludeSubdirectories Boolean Indicates whether changes in subdirectories are accepted or ignored. OutputVariableName String The name of the variable into which the full file path found will be written on completion of the task. The variable specified should be of type string. Path String Path to watch for new files or changes to existing files. The path is a directory, not a full filename. For a specific file, enter the file name in the Filter property and the directory in the Path property. PathInputType FileWatcherTask.InputType Three input types are supported for the path: Connection - File connection manager, of type existing folder. Direct Input - Type the path directly into the UI or set on the property as a literal string. Variable – The name of the variable which contains the path. Timeout Integer Time in minutes to wait for a file. If no files are detected within the timeout period the task will fail. The default value of 0 means infinite, and will not expire. TimeoutAsWarning Boolean The default behaviour is to raise an error and fail the task on timeout. This property allows you to suppress the error on timeout, a warning event is raised instead, and the task succeeds. The default value is false. Installation The task is provided as an MSI file which you can download and run to install it. This simply places the files on disk in the correct locations and also installs the assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache as per Microsoft’s recommendations. You may need to restart the SQL Server Integration Services service, as this caches information about what components are installed, as well as restarting any open instances of Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) / Visual Studio that you may be using to build your SSIS packages. For 2005/2008 Only - Finally you will have to add the task to the Visual Studio toolbox manually. Right-click the toolbox, and select Choose Items.... Select the SSIS Control Flow Items tab, and then check the File Watcher Task in the Choose Toolbox Items window. This cache is held by the SSIS service, so you need restart the the SQL Server Integration Services service. You can do this from the Services applet in Control Panel or Administrative Tools in Windows. You can also restart the computer if you prefer. You may also need to restart any current instances of Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) / Visual Studio that you may be using to build your SSIS packages. If you get an error like Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ExceptionMessageBox.. you can manually download and install the missing component. It is available as part of the Feature Pack for SQL Server 2005 release. MERGE Bug with Filtered Indexes

A MERGE statement can fail, and incorrectly report a unique key violation when: The target table uses a unique filtered index; and No key column of the filtered index is updated; and A column from the filtering condition is updated; and Transient key violations are possible Example Tables Say we have two tables, one that is the target of a MERGE statement, and another that contains updates to be applied to the target. The target table contains three columns, an integer primary key, a single character alternate key, and a status code column. The duplicate key value is (A). The statement has been terminated. Applying the changes using UPDATE Let’s now rewrite the MERGE to use UPDATE instead: UPDATE t SET status_code = c.status_code FROM #Target AS t JOIN #Changes AS c ON t.pk = c.pk WHERE c.status_code <> t.status_code; This query succeeds where the MERGE failed. In this test, the MERGE query execution happens to apply the changes in the order of the ‘pk’ column. In test one, this was not a problem: row 1 is removed from the unique filtered index by changing status_code from ‘a’ to ‘d’ before row 4 is added. At no point does the table contain two rows where ak = ‘A’ and status_code = ‘a’. In test two, however, the first change was to change row 1 from status ‘d’ to status ‘a’. This change means there would be two rows in the filtered unique index where ak = ‘A’ (both row 1 and row 4 meet the index filtering criteria ‘status_code = a’). The storage engine does not allow the query processor to violate a unique key (unless IGNORE_DUP_KEY is ON, but that is a different story, and doesn’t apply to MERGE in any case). This strict rule applies regardless of the fact that if all changes were applied, there would be no unique key violation (row 4 would eventually be changed from ‘a’ to ‘d’, removing it from the filtered unique index, and resolving the key violation). Why it went wrong The query optimizer usually detects when this sort of temporary uniqueness violation could occur, and builds a plan that avoids the issue. I wrote about this a couple of years ago in my post Beware Sneaky Reads with Unique Indexes (you can read more about the details on pages 495-497 of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Internals or in Craig Freedman’s blog post on maintaining unique indexes). To summarize though, the optimizer introduces Split, Filter, Sort, and Collapse operators into the query plan to: Split each row update into delete followed by an inserts Filter out rows that would not change the index (due to the filter on the index, or a non-updating update) Sort the resulting stream by index key, with deletes before inserts Collapse delete/insert pairs on the same index key back into an update The effect of all this is that only net changes are applied to an index (as one or more insert, update, and/or delete operations). In this case, the net effect is a single update of the filtered unique index: changing the row for ak = ‘A’ from pk = 4 to pk = 1. This is the magic performed by the split, sort, and collapse. Notice in particular how the original changes to the index key (on the ‘ak’ column) have been transformed into an update of a non-key column (pk is included in the nonclustered index). By not updating any nonclustered index keys, we are guaranteed to avoid transient key violations. The Execution Plans The estimated MERGE execution plan that produces the incorrect key-violation error looks like this (click to enlarge in a new window): The successful UPDATE execution plan is (click to enlarge in a new window): The MERGE execution plan is a narrow (per-row) update. The single Clustered Index Merge operator maintains both the clustered index and the filtered nonclustered index. The UPDATE plan is a wide (per-index) update. The clustered index is maintained first, then the Split, Filter, Sort, Collapse sequence is applied before the nonclustered index is separately maintained. There is always a wide update plan for any query that modifies the database. The narrow form is a performance optimization where the number of rows is expected to be relatively small, and is not available for all operations. One of the operations that should disallow a narrow plan is maintaining a unique index where intermediate key violations could occur. Workarounds The MERGE can be made to work (producing a wide update plan with split, sort, and collapse) by: Adding all columns referenced in the filtered index’s WHERE clause to the index key (INCLUDE is not sufficient); or Executing the query with trace flag 8790 set e.g. OPTION (QUERYTRACEON 8790). Undocumented trace flag 8790 forces a wide update plan for any data-changing query (remember that a wide update plan is always possible). Either change will produce a successfully-executing wide update plan for the MERGE that failed previously. Conclusion The optimizer fails to spot the possibility of transient unique key violations with MERGE under the conditions listed at the start of this post. It incorrectly chooses a narrow plan for the MERGE, which cannot provide the protection of a split/sort/collapse sequence for the nonclustered index maintenance. The MERGE plan may fail at execution time depending on the order in which rows are processed, and the distribution of data in the database. Worse, a previously solid MERGE query may suddenly start to fail unpredictably if a filtered unique index is added to the merge target table at any point. Oracle 9i exposed flashback query to developers for the first time. The ability to flashback query dates back to version 4 however (it just wasn't exposed). Every time you run a query in Oracle it is in fact a flashback query - it is what multi-versioning is all about.However, there was never a flashforward query (well, ok, the workspace manager has this capability - but with lots of extra baggage). We've never been able to ask a table "what will you look like tomorrow" - but now we do.The capability is called Temporal Validity. If you have a table with data that is effective dated - has a "start date" and "end date" column in it - we can now query it using flashback query like syntax. The twist is - the date we "flashback" to can be in the future. Using IsolatedStorage on a IIS server

I'am a bit confusing about the use of Isolated Storage on an IIS server. I understand the goal of Isolated Storage : provides a safe place to store data with no worry about how and where is this place. Since Isolated Storage has a by-user and by-assembly approach, I'am not to wild about using it on a IIS server where applications have almost their own identity. I haven't really seen the interest of impersonating a web application and almost never seen impersonated web applications myself but this is my point of view. Using Isolated Storage on a server mean : Using Isolated stores in \Documents and Settings\<user>\ Which mean \Documents and Settings\Default User\ when the application pool is owned by Local System or Network Services I guess Which also mean Write rights on this folder for Local System or Network Services Using of impersonation Regarding a web application (logic), these ideas are confusing me... Document and Settings ? Default User ? Enable impersonation just for storage ? No control about storage on server ? Uh ? And then I'am a front of a dilema : use System.IO.Packaging (with Isolated Storage inside) on web applications or find an alternative ? Am I wrong in my approach ? Did I miss something ? Any point of view is appreciated and an explanation about the Isolated Storage with IIS philosophy could be an anwser. Thanks !

My grain sizes are defined as D=[1.19,1.00,0.84,0.71,0.59,0.50,0.42]. The problem is described below in steps. Grain sizes should follow lognormal distribution. The mean of the grain sizes is fixed as 0.84 and the standard deviation should be as low as possible but not zero. 90% of the grains (by weight %) fall in the size range of 1.19 to 0.59, and the rest 10% fall in size range of 0.50 to 0.42. Now I want to find the probabilities (weight percentage) of the grains falling in each grain size. It is allowable to split this grain size distribution into further small sizes but it must always be in the range of 1.19 and 0.42, i.e. 'D' can be continuous but 0.42 < D < 1.19. I need it fast. I tried on my own but I am not able to get the correct result. I am getting negative probabilities (weight percentages). Thanks to anyone who helps. I didn't incorporate the point 3 as I came to know about that condition later. Explaining the forecasts from an ARIMA model

I am trying to explain to myself the forecasting result from applying an ARIMA model to a time-series dataset. The data is from the M1-Competition, the series is MNB65. For quick reference, I have a google doc spreadsheet with the data. I am trying to fit the data to an ARIMA(1,0,0) model and get the forecasts. I am using R. Here are some output snippets: > arima(x, order = c(1,0,0)) Series: x ARIMA(1,0,0) with non-zero mean Call: arima(x = x, order = c(1, 0, 0)) Coefficients: ar1 intercept 0.9421 12260.298 s.e. 0.0474 202.717 > predict(arima(x, order = c(1,0,0)), n.ahead=12) $pred Time Series: Start = 53 End = 64 Frequency = 1 [1] 11757.39 11786.50 11813.92 11839.75 11864.09 11887.02 11908.62 11928.97 11948.15 11966.21 11983.23 11999.27 I have a few questions: (1) How do I explain that although the dataset shows a clear downward trend, the forecast from this model trends upward. This also happens for ARIMA(2,0,0), which is the best ARIMA fit for the data using auto.arima (forecast package) and for an ARIMA(1,0,1) model. (2) The intercept value for the ARIMA(1,0,0) model is 12260.298. Shouldn't the intercept satisfy the equation: C = mean * (1 - sum(AR coeffs)), in which case, the value should be 715.52. I must be missing something basic here. (3) This is clearly a series with non-stationary mean. Why is an AR(2) model still selected as the best model by auto.arima? Could there be an intuitive explanation? Thanks.

R selecting duplicate rows

Okay, I'm fairly new to R and I've tried to search the documentation for what I need to do but here is the problem. I have a data.frame called heeds.data in the following form (some columns omitted for simplicity) eval.num, eval.count, ... fitness, fitness.mean, green.h.0, green.v.0, offset.0, green.h.1, green.v.1,...green.h.7, green.v.7, offset.7... And I have selected a row meeting the following criteria: best.fitness <- min(heeds.data$fitness.mean[heeds.data$eval.count = 10]) best.row <- heeds.data[heeds.data$fitness.mean == best.fitness] Now, what I want are all of the other rows with that have columns green.h.0 to offset.7 (a contiguous section of columns) equal to the best.row Basically I'm looking for rows that have some of the conditions the same as the "best" row. I thought I could just do this, heeds.best <- heeds.data$fitness[ heeds.data$green.h.0 == best.row$green.h.0 & ... ] But with 24 columns it seems like a stupid method. Looking for something a bit simpler with less manual typing. Thanks!

Best practice for inserting large chunks of HTML into elements with Javscript?

Hey guys. I'm building a web application (using prototype) at the moment that requires the addition of large chunks of HTML into the DOM. Most of these are rows that contain elements with all manner of attributes. Currently I keep a blank row of html in a variable and var blankRow = '<tr><td>' +'<a href="{LINK}" onclick="someFunc(\'{STRING}\');">{WORD}</a>' +'</td></tr>'; function insertRow(o) { newRow = blankRow .sub('{LINK}',o.link) .sub('{STRING}',o.string) .sub('{WORD}',o.word); $('tbodyElem').insert( newRow ); } Now that works all well and dandy, but is it the best practice? I have to update the code in the blankRow when I update code on the page, so the new elements being inserted are the same. It gets sucky when I have like 40 lines of HTML to go in a blankRow and then I have to escape it too. Is there an easier way? I was thinking of urlencoding and then decoding it before insertion but that would still mean a blankRow and lots of escaping. What would be mean would be a eof function a la PHP et al. $blankRow = <<<EOF text text EOF; That would mean no escaping but it would still need a blankRow. What do you do in this situation?

Validating JSP's and HTML Forms, Server-side or Client-side, or both?

I am aware that I can Google "HTML Form Validation" and would get a billion tutorials. I am well aware that I can use simple JavaScript to validate form input, but I have been told that this is not necessarily an efficient method. I have also heard that it is a best practice to validate both client and server-side code. OK! Well, What exactly does this mean besides writing code on both? Does it mean I do some with JavaScript and other with Servlet's or does it mean that I write identical validation methods on both? My real question is can anybody give me insight and direction as how to go about validation my HTML forms. I am using JSP's and Servlet's and I have tons of form validation to do. I have already done minor form validation with regex in Java, but want to figure out if Im heading in the right track before I write any more code. All is new to me and the books and the tutorials i find in the web are to technical. I started learning about .xsd schemas and also .xml. In that topic i feel confident, i understand what are the schemas used for and what validation means. Now my next step is learning about JAX-B(Java Api for XML Binding). I rode some about it and i did also some practice in my IDE. But i have lots of basic doubts, that make me stuck and cannot feel confident to continue to the next topic. Ill appreciate a lot if someone could explain me well my doubts: What does it mean mapping and what is a mapping tool? What does it mean binding and what is a binding tool? What does it mean parsing and what is a parsing tool? How is JAX-B related to mapping,binding and parsing? I am seeking for a good answer built by you, not just a copy paste from google(Ive already been online a few hours and only got confused).

ios UITableView reloadData don't increase content height

I'm facing a strange error in my iOS app and haven't been able to figure out the reason why. In my UITableView i can add new cells, so i refresh the array that is the datasource and call reloadData. Everything works without error. The numberOfRowsInSection is called again, and it's value is one more than it's previous value was. The new cell even gets inserted at the bottom of the tableview, but i cant scroll down to it. I only know that it's there because the tableview bounces and i can see it. I'm guessing the tableview's content height is not getting increased for some reason, but i have no idea why. I'm using iOS 6 btw. Any help is very much appreciated! This NSArray gets its values from a database query. When you say, you are refreshing the array, what do you mean. By refreshing the array i mean i execute a new query in the database and put the results of this query into an NSArray. this will be the tableview's datasource array. Like this: dataSourceArray = [dbManager executeQuery]; [tableView reloadData]; Are you adding the data within the same view controller Yes. Can you show some code as to what you are doing See above. Is the table view at the root of the view controllers view or is it within another view The tableview is the main view's first child. Can you try adding data to the array at the beginning, so that you can view the cell being added at the top. I don't understand what you mean.

Loading Dimension Tables - Methodologies

Hello, Recently I been working on project, where need to populated Dim Tables from EDW Tables. EDW Tables are of type II which does maintain historical data. When comes to load Dim Table, for which source may be multiple EDW Tables or would be single table with multi level pivoting (on attributes). Mean: There would be 10 records - one for each attribute which need to be pivoted on domain_code to make a single row in Dim. Out of these 10 records there would be some attributes with same domain_code but with different sub_domain_code, which needs further pivoting on subdomain code. Ex: if i got domain code: 01,02, 03 = which are straight pivot on domain code I would also have domain code: 10 with subdomain code / version as 2006,2007,2008,2009 That means I need to split my source table with above attributes into two = one for domain code and other for domain_code + version. so far so good. When it comes to load Dim Table: As per design specs for Dimensions (originally written by third party), what they want is: for every single change in EDW (attribute), it should assemble all the related records (for that NK) mean new one with other attribute values which are current = process them to create a new dim record and insert it. That mean if a single extract contains 100 records updated (one for each NK), it should assemble 100 + (100*9) records to insert / update dim table. How good is this approach. Other way I tried to do is just do a lookup into dim table for that NK get the value's of recent records (attributes which not changed) and insert it and update the current one. What would be the better approach assembling records at source side for one attribute change or looking into dim table's recent record and process it. If this doesn't make sense, would like to elaborate it further. Thanks

Here is what I want to do: I have a time series data frame with let us say 100 time-series of length 600 - each in one column of the data frame. I want to pick up 4 of the time-series randomly and then assign them random weights that sum up to one (ie 0.1, 0.5, 0.3, 0.1). Using those I want to compute the mean of the sum of the 4 weighted time series variables (e.g. convex combination). I want to do this let us say 100k times and store each result in the form ts1.name, ts2.name, ts3.name, ts4.name, weight1, weight2, weight3, weight4, mean so that I get a 9*100k df. I tried some things already but R is very bad with loops and I know vector oriented solutions are better because of R design. EDIT: Thanks for the help i had,i am not used to think R and i am not very used to translate every problem into a matrix algebra equation which is what you need in R. Then the problem becomes a little bit complex if i want to calculate the standard deviation. i need the covariance matrix and i am not sure i can if/how i can pick random elements for each sample from the original timeseries.df covariance matrix then compute the sample variance (t(sampleweights)%*%sample_cov.mat%*%sampleweights) to get in the end the ts.weighted_standard_dev matrix Last question what is the best way to proceed if i want to bootstrap the original df x times and then apply the same computations to test the robustness of my datas thanks

I am having an intermittent issue that is appearing on one server only, and is causing all MVC pages to fail to load with the error "An item with the same key has already been added." SSRS Export to Excel not working through VPN (Juniper SA4000)

We have a SharePoint (MOSS 2007 on Win2003 R2) with SSRS reports (from SQL 2005) embedded in it. When we connect to the SharePoint portal through our VPN (firewall is Juniper SA4000) and using Internet Explorer (6, 7, and 8) and try to export any SSRS report under Excel, we get an error message: Internet Explorer cannot download . Internet Explorer was not able to open the internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later. When not using the VPN (LAN from the office), everything (exporting under Excel) works fine. When using Firefox through the VPN, it works fine. When exporting to any other format (pdf or text or whatever), everything is fine under both IE and FF. Our firewall people suspect something in SSRS/MOSS/Office. Our MOSS consultants suspect something in the firewall Juniper SA4000. Update 17/06/2009: I could get a hand on some logs from our SA4000. Maybe this could help more. WPF ShowDialog returns immediately

Sometimes when I call ShowDialog on an OpenFileDialog Window in WPF, the dialog closes immediately with a return value of false. I'm calling ShowDialog in response to a button click event. I can reproduce this problem using the sample code for OpenFileDialog on MSDN: // Configure open file dialog box Microsoft.Win32.OpenFileDialog dlg = new Microsoft.Win32.OpenFileDialog(); dlg.FileName = "Document"; // Default file name dlg.DefaultExt = ".txt"; // Default file extension dlg.Filter = "Text documents (.txt)|*.txt"; // Filter files by extension // Show open file dialog box Nullable<bool> result = dlg.ShowDialog(); // Process open file dialog box results if (result == true) { // Open document string filename = dlg.FileName; } The problem occurs intermittently when I run my solution in Debug mode from Visual Studio 2008 SP1. It's quite annoying. Is this a known issue? Are there workarounds?

I have a checkboxlist of categories, during an update, I am trying to delete all the items in list from the associate table, then insert them all (so I don't have to determine if an item already exists in the associate table and only insert newly checked items). wix: does INSTALLDIR always end in a slash?

I think the default dir gets a trailing slash. But what if the user selects a different directory? Is there a way for the INSTALLDIR to NOT have a trailing slash? It's not that I want it to not have a trailing slash. I want to know if I can count on it, so that, for example, [INSTALLDIR]Filter.dll ...will always resolve to a real, valid filesystem path. Currently I use [INSTALLDIR]\Filter.dll and I get a double-slash in there. It's valid and resolves, but I'd like to eliminate the double slash. thanks.
