• Making sure unsigned int/long always execute in checked context in C#

  Has anyone found it strange that the default context for uint and ulong is unchecked rather than checked considering that they are meant to represent values that can never be negative? So if some code is trying to violate that constraint it seems to me the natural and preferred behaviour would be to throw an exception rather than returning the max value instead (which can easily leave important pieces of data in an invalid state and impossible to revert..). Is there an existing attribute which can be applied to either class/assembly so that it always performs arithmetic operations in a checked context? I was thinking of writing one myself (as an aspect using PostSharp) but would be great if there's one already. Many thanks,

• Changing the title of a MFMailComposeViewController

  Although i know changing MFMailComposeViewController is fround upon, i'm taking a risk. I found some ideas such as [self presentModalViewController:controller animated:YES]; // Existing line [[[[controller viewControllers] lastObject] navigationItem] setTitle:@"SomethingElse"]; and [[[[(MFMailComposeViewController*)vc navigationBar] items] objectAtIndex:0] setTitle:@" SomethingElse"]; but the odd thing is that the title is "SomethingElse" for like 2 seconds and after that it returns to the subject that is set. I've tried other solutions as well but the same output. I am using SHK (ShareKit) to connect to social.   I am experiencing some very odd timing behavior from a function I wrote. If I wrap my function inside another empty container function, it gets a 3x speedup. > tic; foo(args); toc time elapsed: ~140 seconds >tic; bar(args); toc time elapsed: ~35 seconds Here's the kicker - the definition of bar(): define bar(args) foo(args) end Is there some sort of optimization that gets triggered in MATLAB for nested function calls? Should I be adding a dummy function to every function that I write?

• ProgrammingError: (1146, "Table 'test_<DB>.<TABLE>' doesn't exist") when running unit test for Djang

  I'm running a unit test using the Django framework and get this error. Running the actual code does not have this problem, running the unit tests creates a test database on the fly so I suspect the issue lies there. The code that throws the error looks like this member = Member.objects.get(email=email_address) and the model looks like class Member(models.Model): member_id = models.IntegerField(primary_key=True) created_on = models.DateTimeField(editable=False, default=datetime.datetime.utcnow()) flags = models.IntegerField(default=0) email = models.CharField(max_length=150, blank=True) phone = models.CharField(max_length=150, blank=True) country_iso = models.CharField(max_length=6, blank=True) location_id = models.IntegerField(null=True, blank=True) facebook_uid = models.IntegerField(null=True, blank=True) utc_offset = models.IntegerField(null=True, blank=True) tokens = models.CharField(max_length=3000, blank=True) class Meta: db_table = u'member' there's nothing too odd there i can see. the user running the tests has the same permissions to the database server as the user that runs the website where else can I look to see what's going wrong, why is this table not being created?

• WCF: generic list serialized to array

  So I am working with WCF and my services return types that contain generic lists. WCF is currently converting these to arrays over the wire. Is there a way I configure WCF to convert them back to lists afterwards? I know there is a way by clicking advanced when you add a service reference but I am looking for a solution in configuration files or something similar. [DataContract(IsReference = true)] public class SampleObject { [DataMember] public long ID { get; private set; } [DataMember] public ICollection<AnotherObject> Objects { get; set; } } It is very odd, also, because one service returns it as a list and the other as an array and I am pretty sure they are configured identically.

• Solaris 10 keyboard problem

  Im runing Solaris 10 - but im having problems with the keyboard. Instead of - i get /, and instead of y i get z, etc. I tried changing every option in the menu "Keyboard Behaviour". I also tried changing kmdconfig from xorg to xsun, but then the graphics goes all wild and ugly - although the keyboard works fine then. Also cant change resolution in xsun mode. By the way, im runing Solaris from Vmware, but i doubt this has anything to do with this.

• Ruby: Locate class definition at run time?

  I'm having an odd probably with rails right now... a class is being defined somewhere, and I can't find it. Grepping for "class ClassName" hasn't managed to locate it, but it's definitely there when I load up the rails console. It's just a vanilla class inheriting from Object with nothing else defined... quite boring. So, what I'd like is a way to figure out where this class constant was originally defined from the rails console. Something to print out the value of '__ FILE __' when this class was declared, in other words. I feel like some type of metaprogramming should make this possible.

  I've got the above odd error message that I don't understand "value Parsers is not a member of package scala.util.parsing.combinator". I'm trying to learn Parser combinators by writing a C parser step by step. I started at token, so I have the classes: import util.parsing.combinator.JavaTokenParsers object CeeParser extends JavaTokenParsers { def token: Parser[CeeExpr] = ident } abstract class CeeExpr case class Token(name: String) extends CeeExpr This is as simple as I could make it.   Hi, I need to give one client the ability to convert some videos to f4v h264 before loading it up to an AIR app. I normally doing with the Adobe Media Encoder CS4 but that only ships with adobe products (you can't download it as a free standalone app - which, start rant is odd, you'd think they would push the format - Microsoft's competing expresssion encoder is free end rant) Anyway, I need to get a (hopefully not too expensive, but willing to pay for it) good 3rd part app that can take any video and convert it to an f4v. Can you suggest any? Everything i've found is horrible or jammed with ads and crap. What would you use? Any suggestion? (please don't just say ffmpeg - I know it can do it but we need to good simple GUI) Thanks!

• Why does sh/bash set command line parameter values when trying to set environment variable?

  A question on basics : While tuning environment variables for a program launched from a script, I ended up with somewhat strange behaviour with sh (which seems to be actually linked to bash) : variable setting seems to mess up with command-line parameters. Could somebody explain why does this happen? A simple script: #! /bin/sh # Messes with $1 ?? set ANT_OPTS=-Xmx512M export ANT_OPTS # Works # export ANT_OPTS=-Xmx512M echo "0 = $0" echo "1 = $1" When I run this with the upper alternative (set + export), the result is as following: $ ./test.sh foo 0 = ./test.sh 1 = ANT_OPTS=-Xmx512M But with lower alternative (export straight), the result is as I supposed: $ ./test.sh foo 0 = ./test.sh 1 = foo There is surely logical explanation, I just haven't figured it out yet. Obviously something must be tuned in Windows to change this behaviour. What exactly should I do? I understand that it's not completely a programming question but rather a deployment question. Still I think it will be better off here than anywhere else.

• where do i put html files in my web-app folder for a lift project with maven?

  I'm new to Lift framework for scala. For some reason, index.html resides in the web-app directory, and when I start up jetty, http://localhost:8080/ will point to that index.html file just fine. However, if I put a login.html file in the same folder as the index.html, and then go http://localhost:8080/login, Lift does not serve the file. Where do I need to put the files to get them register? I am a little lost because the behaviour only seems to work for index.html and nothing else. • Using new Image().src for click tracking

  I am attempting to figure out why this click tracker isn't working. The code was written by another developer so I am not entirely sure if this ever did work. function trackSponsor(o, p) { (new Image()).src = PATH_BASE + 'click/' + p + '/' + o + "?_cache=" + (+(new Date())); return false; } From what I can gather is that when this function is called it 'creates a new image' to fire a php script asynchronously. According to Firebug, the request is made however it is 'aborted' ~30ms in. The odd thing is that it will 'sometimes' work as in 1 in every 10+ regardless of the browser. I would much rather fix this so that it works instead of re-writing it as an ajax request. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• How to handle Clean URIs in Classic ASP using PATH_INFO?

  I'm trying to handle Clean URIs in a Classic ASP application. In PHP, I was able to use URIs like http://example.com/index.php/foo/bar/baz and have /foo/bar/baz available in the PATH_INFO environment variable. (I usually add a rewrite rule so I do not need the index.php segment) However, I don't seem to be able to mimic this in Classic ASP. If I try http://example.com/index.asp/foo/bar/baz, I get a 404 error. Is there a way to add a path after the index.asp segment and get the PHP like behaviour in ASP? Note: I'm currently using the workaround of rewriting URLs of the form: http://example.com/foo/bar/baz/ to index.asp?path=/foo/bar/baz since I can't seem to get index.asp/foo/bar/baz to work.

Technically tr.empty() shouldn't have worked. It actually does the opposite of what I want. What is the techinical term for this behaviour - You've added tr to the DOM, but any jquery function calls to that object still works, where as you'd normally not expect it to work i.e. make changes to the DOM?

• How to load images and fragments dynamically in LiveCycle Designer forms?

  Hi there. I've created a couple of shared templates (.xdp) which will be shared among several clients. Obviously, each client has their own logo and I'd like to set the logo upon form generation. I've managed to change the logo dynamically although I'm not sure if my approach is good. In the xml datasource I've got this element: <ClientID>SomeNumber</ClientId> In the form itself I set the image href with this javascript code: SomeHiddenTextField::calculate HeaderLogo.value.image.href = $record.ClientID + "_logo.jpg"; I've got the logos stored on the server in the same folder as the shared templates. Is this an alright approach to load logos dynamically? I've been trying to achieve the same dynamic behaviour with each client's footer fragment, but I have been unable to figure out how to load these on demand. I could make each footer fragment in to an image but I'd like to avoid it if possible.

  If two webserver are configured in between a load balancer and weblogic cluster, will the two Apache server maintain session stickiness.?? Say for e.g. the load balancer forwards the first request to the 1st apache and inturn 1st apache forwards to 1st WL managed instance.Even if the second req from the same user is forwarded by the load balancer to the second apache, will the sec apache be able to forward it to the 1st WLManaged instance which served the first request rather than the sec WLManaged instance which is not aware of the session information at all.What should ideally be the behaviour of weblogic apache plugin??.Catch is i dont want ot enable the session replication @ the wl server cluster..Pls help.

• How do I configure emacs for editing HTML files that contain Javascript?

  I have started the painful first steps of using emacs to edit an HTML file with both HTML tags and javascript content. I have installed nxhtml and tried using it - i.e set up to use nxhtml-mumamo-mode for .html files. But I am not loving it. When I am editing the Javascript portion of the code the tab indents do not behave as they do when editing C/C++ code. It starts putting tabs within the line and if you try and hit tab in the white space preceding a line it inserts the tab rather than re-tabifying the line. Another aspect that I don't like is that it doesn't do syntax colouring like the usual C/C++ modes do. I much prefer the behaviour of the default java-mode when editing HTML files but that doesn't play nicely with the HTML code. :-( 1) Is there a better mode for editing HTML files with Javascript portions? 2) Is there a way to get nxhtml to use the default java-mode for the javascript portions? • What is the best method for implementing mouse wheel activity in Delph1 VCL forms?

  As a long time user of Delphi 7, I've rolled my own mouse wheel handling in a few controls but lately I've noticed that some recent applications only need the mouse cursor to be placed over a control (e.g a list box or tree view) for the mouse wheel activity to cause that control to scroll. This feels nice (as opposed to having to click focus a control before it responds to the wheel. Now I've moved to Delphi 2010 I'm wondering what is the 'correct' behaviour? And what can I use in Delphi that avoids me having to bodge this with my own solutions now? Thanks.
