  • Running game, leaving game and continuing animation

    - by Madrusec
I have been trying to learn some Actionscript recently and have been trying to run an interactive story that at one point turns into an extremel simple shooter game. After the player either wins or looses, then he/she is taken to the rest of the animated story. So I have everything up to the point where the games runs (successfully) but for some reason I am unable to have flash run the rest of the frames, most of which have no code at all. This is the code for scene 1: stop (); import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.events.MouseEvent; import flash.utils.Timer; import flash.events.TimerEvent; var stoneInGame:uint; var stoneMaker: Timer; var container_mc: MovieClip; var cursor:MovieClip; var score:int; var anxiety:int; var anxiety_mc :MovieClip = new mcAnxiety(); //stage.addChild( anxiety_mc ); function initializeGame():void { stoneInGame = 10; stoneMaker = new Timer(1000, stoneInGame); container_mc = new MovieClip(); addChild(container_mc); container_mc.addChild(anxiety_mc); anxiety_mc.x = 497; anxiety_mc.y = 360; stoneMaker.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, createStones); stoneMaker.start(); cursor = new Cursor(); addChild(cursor); cursor.enabled = false; Mouse.hide(); stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, dragCursor); score = 0; anxiety = anxiety_mc.totalFrames; anxiety_mc.gotoAndStop(anxiety); } function dragCursor(event:MouseEvent):void { cursor.x = this.mouseX; cursor.y = this.mouseY; } function createStones(event:TimerEvent):void { var stone:MovieClip; stone = new Stone(); stone.x = Math.random() * stage.stageWidth; stone.y = Math.random() * stage.stageHeight; container_mc.addChild(stone); } function increaseScore():void { score ++; if(score >= stoneInGame) { dragCursor.stop(); createStones.stop(); stoneMaker.stop(); trace("you wind!"); } } function decreaseAnxiety():void { anxiety--; if(anxiety <= 0) { stoneMaker.stop(); trace("you lose!"); } else { anxiety_mc.gotoAndStop(anxiety); } increaseScore(); } initializeGame(); So what I tried to do was adding gotoAndPlay() inside both the decreaseAnxiety and increaseScore functions after the trace statements and referenced a frame where I have more keyframes that continue a story. However, Flash just goes back to the beginning of the timeline and I even the functions that change and control the cursor seem to be running. This leads me to believe that I need to make sure that I tell flash o stup running certain functions before jumping to another frame. However, it seems to me that I would still have the same issue and not be able to continue in the timeline. Is there something I am missing? How can I jump out of all this code once the game finishes and simply continue playing the rest of the frames? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

  • Can FDT deal with .fla files or not ?

    - by user198729
I'm trying to find an all-in-one IDE for flash, one that can deal with various flash related files. I just read this answer and it recommends fdt, but seems fdt can only deal with scripts but not .fla ones. Which IDE should I use so that I can use it to develop various files involved in flash developing?

  • Problems with capturing an event in child object in Actionscript

    - by Raigomaru
I have two classes. The first one (the starting class): package { import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.events.KeyboardEvent; import tetris.*; public class TetrisGame extends Sprite { private var _gameWell:Well; public function TetrisGame() { _gameWell = new Well(); addChild(_gameWell); } } } The second: package tetris { import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.events.KeyboardEvent; public class Well extends Sprite { public function Well() { super(); addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, onKeyboard); } private function onKeyboard():void { //some code is here } } } But when I press any buttons on my keyboard, the child class Well doesn't have any reaction. What's the problem?

  • Update Manager won't open (error related to pythonverbose)

    - by Mateus Machado Luna
I'm having an issue with update-manager. Last night, my computer restart suddenly during the update process. Now it won't open and it keep appearing on the notifier with a message warning that an error occurred. The error is the same that is displayed when I try to open it on the terminal: Error in sitecustomize; set PYTHONVERBOSE for traceback: EOFError: EOF read where not expected Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/update-manager", line 26, in <module> from __future__ import print_function EOFError: EOF read where not expected I've already seen some questions here, but most of them are related to problems with ppas and the source.list file. This seems to be a bug on update-manager itself. I've already tried to remove it and install again, but the problem persists. I also noted another bug: my source-center doesn't open too. The message for it is similar to the other one: Error in sitecustomize; set PYTHONVERBOSE for traceback: EOFError: EOF read where not expected Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/command-not-found", line 5, in <module> from __future__ import absolute_import, print_function EOFError: EOF read where not expected For now I'm using apt-get update && upgrade for updating and the Synaptic for the source management. But I really would like to fix this stuff. Anyone can help? I'm with Ubuntu 12.10, Gnome-remix, 64-bits.

  • Launching php script through comman line - keeping terminal window open after execution

    - by somethis
Oh, my girlfriend really likes it when I launch php scripts! There's something special about them, she says ... Thus, I coded this script to run throught the CLI (Command Line Interface) - so it's running locally, not on a web server. It launches just fine through right click open run in terminal but closes right after execution. **Is there a way to keep the terminal window open? Of course I can launch it through a terminal window - which would stay open - but I'm looking for a one click action. With bash scripts I use $SHELL but that didn't work (see code below). So far, the only thing I came up with is sleep(10); which gives me 10 seconds for my girl to check the output. I'd rather close the terminal window manually, though. #!/usr/bin/php -q <?php echo "Hello World \n"; # wait before closing terminal window sleep(10); # the following line doesn't work $SHELL; ?> (PHP 5.4.6-1ubuntu1.2 (cli) (built: Mar 11 2013 14:57:54) Copyright (c) 1997-2012 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.4.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2012 Zend Technologies )

  • Choosing an open source license such that maximum value is added to a startup

    - by echo-flow
There are many companies that produce open source software products, and many business models that these companies can use. I'm particularly interested in companies like 280 North, the company behind Objective-J and Cappucino frameworks. My understanding of this organization's business model is that they: worked to develop a tool which added significant value to developers, released the tool under an open source license, built a community around the tool (which was helped by the project's open source licensing), created interesting demos illustrating the project's value All of these things added value to the project, and the company that owned it. Finally, 280 North was sold to Motorola. My question has to do with the role of software licensing in this particular business model. 280 North licensed their software projects under the LGPL, which gave them some proprietary control over how the project could be used. I believe that the LGPL is what's known as a "weak copyleft" license, meaning that the project can be linked to, without the linking code also being licensed under the LGPL; but software derived directly from the project would need to be licensed under the LGPL. For web-oriented libraries in particular, weak copyleft, or non-copyleft licensing seems to be quite common; I can't think of a single example of a popular or well-known web-oriented library that is licensed under the GPL (or AGPL). The question then, is, how much value would a weak copyleft license like the LGPL add to a software venture like 280 North, versus a non-copyleft license, such as the BSD license or the Apache Software License? I'd really appreciate any insight anyone can offer into this, but I'd be most interested in answers that can cite other companies as case studies or examples.

  • Is there a good Open Source, XSD based Web Editor?

    - by ashansky
I'm looking for a good open source web editor that will take xsd (or some other standard XML) and from that generate web forms that will enable the end user to generate standard xml (without knowing anything about xml obliviously). I took a look at kupu, but there doesn't seem to be much documentation and the site appears to no longer exist. Is there anything out there that does this already. I could write something like this myself, but if there's something that out there that will save me some time that would be great. Thanks

  • Does an open source project need a news group?

    - by Daren Thomas
I open-sourced a tool I created to scratch an itch. From the downloads for the installer on the project page I can see I'm not the only one interested. About 5 people seem to have upgraded from the previous version. But I know next to nothing about them. Do I need a news group? A mailing list? Or how would you start to build a (little) community?
