  • Active Directory Services: PrincipalContext -- What is the DN of a "container" object?

    - by Ranger Pretzel
    I'm currently trying to authenticate via Active Directory Services using the PrincipalContext class. I would like to have my application authenticate to the Domain using Sealed and SSL contexts. In order to do this, I have to use the following constructor of PrincipalContext (link to MSDN page): public PrincipalContext( ContextType contextType, string name, string container, ContextOptions options ) Specifically, I'm using the constructor as so: PrincipalContext domainContext = new PrincipalContext( ContextType.Domain, domain, container, ContextOptions.Sealing | ContextOptions.SecureSocketLayer); MSDN says about "container": The container on the store to use as the root of the context. All queries are performed under this root, and all inserts are performed into this container. For Domain and ApplicationDirectory context types, this parameter is the distinguished name (DN) of a container object. What is the DN of a container object? How do I find out what my container object is? Can I query the Active Directory (or LDAP) server for this?

  • SQL Subquery in LINQ for Entity Framework 4.0

    - by Jorin
    I'm new to LINQ and EF, but I've been able to stumble through for the majority of the queries I have, but this one has me completely confused. No matter what I try, it comes up in SQL Profiler as a big mess :-). I have two tables: Users and UsersProjects. The goal of this query is to list all the users who are working on projects with the specified user. Here is the query as I have it written in SQL. It's a subquery, but I don't know of a way to simplify it further, but I'm open to suggestions there as well. SELECT DISTINCT Users.FirstName, Users.LastName FROM Users INNER JOIN UsersProjects ON Users.ID=UsersProjects.UserID WHERE UsersProjects.ProjectID IN (SELECT ProjectID FROM UsersProjects WHERE UserID=@UserID) Anybody able to help?? It seems like a fairly simple subquery in SQL, but in LINQ, I'm baffled. Thanks, Jorin

  • Method 'SingleOrDefault' not supported by Linq to Entities

    - by user300992
    I read other posts on similar problem on using SingleOfDefault on Linq-To-Entity, some suggested using "First()" and some others suggested using "Extension" method to implement the Single(). This code throws exception: Movie movie = (from a in movies where a.MovieID == '12345' select a).SingleOrDefault(); If I convert the object query to a List using .ToList(), "SingleOrDefault()" actually works perfectly without throwing any error. My question is: Is it not good to convert to List? Is it going to be performance issue for more complicated queries? What does it get translated in SQL? Movie movie = (from a in movies.ToList() where a.MovieID == '12345' select a).SingleOrDefault();

  • NHibernate: QueryOver<> help

    - by Andy Baker
    Hi, I'm just starting out with NHibernate and I'm having trouble with running more complex queries. I have entities with a list of tags attached. The user will provide two lists of tags, include and exclude. I need to find all the entities that have all of the include tags, and exclude any entites that have any tag in the exclude list. Below is my first effort- which is clearly wrong as its listing all Display objects that have any of the include tags rather than all! Any assistance is greatly appeciated. var includeTagIds = (from tag in regime.IncludeTags select tag.Id).ToList<int>(); var excludeTagIds = from tag in regime.ExcludeTags select tag.Id; var displays = session.QueryOver<Display>() .JoinQueryOver<DisplayTag>(display => display.Tags) .WhereRestrictionOn(tag => tag.Id) .IsIn(includeTagIds).List().Distinct(); return displays.ToList();

  • How can I extend DynamicQuery.cs to implement a .Single method?

    - by Yoenhofen
    I need to write some dynamic queries for a project I'm working on. I'm finding out that a significant amount of time is being spent by my program on the Count and First methods, so I started to change to .Single, only to find out that there is no such method. The code below was my first attempt at creating one (mostly copied from the Where method), but it's not working. Help? public static object Single(this IQueryable source, string predicate, params object[] values) { if (source == null) throw new ArgumentNullException("source"); if (predicate == null) throw new ArgumentNullException("predicate"); LambdaExpression lambda = DynamicExpression.ParseLambda(source.ElementType, typeof(bool), predicate, values); return source.Provider.CreateQuery( Expression.Call( typeof(Queryable), "Single", new Type[] { source.ElementType }, source.Expression, Expression.Quote(lambda))); }

  • c#Repository pattern: One repository per subclass?

    - by Alex
    I am wondering if you would create a repository for each subclass of a domain model. There are two classes for example: public class Person { public virtual String GivenName { set; get; } public virtual String FamilyName { set; get; } public virtual String EMailAdress { set; get; } } public class Customer : Person { public virtual DateTime RegistrationDate { get; set; } public virtual String Password { get; set; } } Would you create both a PersonRepository and a CustomerRepository or just the PersonRepository which would also be able to execute Customer related queries?

  • C# How can I tell if an IEnumerable is Mutable?

    - by Logan
    I want a method to update certain entries of an IEnumerable. I found that doing a foreach over the entries and updating the values failed as in the background I was cloning the collection. This was because my IEnumerable was backed by some LINQ-SQL queries. By changing the method to take a List I have changed this behavior, Lists are always mutable and hence the method changes the actual objects in the list. Rather than demand a List is passed is there a Mutable interface I can use? // Will not behave as consistently for all IEnumerables public void UpdateYesterday (IEnumerable<Job> jobs) { foreach (var job : jobs) { if (job.date == Yesterday) { job.done = true; } } }

  • [hibernate - jpa ] good practices and bad practices

    - by blow
    Hi all, i have some questions about interaction with hibernate. openSession or getCurrentSession (without jta, thread insted)? How mix session operations with swing gui? Is good have something like this in a javabean class? public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent event) { // session code } Can i add methods to my entities that contains hql queries or is a bad practice? For example: // This method is in an entity MyOtherEntity.java class public int getDuration(){ Session session=HibernateUtil.getSessionFactory().getCurrentSession(); session.beginTransaction(); int sum=(Integer)session.createQuery("select sum(e.duration) as duration from MyEntity as e where e.myOtherEntity.id=:id group by e.name"). .setLong("id", getId()); .uniqueResult(); return sum; } In alternative how can i do this in a better and elegant way? Thanks.

  • jquery slide down image on page load

    - by Dean
    Hi I'm not experienced with jquery (or java script really), but trying to make an image (img id=mike ...) slide in when a page loads. After looking through the jquery docs and trying Google queries, I have so far come up with this $(document).ready(function() { $("#mike").load(function () { $(this).show("slide", { direction: "up" }, 2000); }); }); And applied the CSS display:hidden so it remains hidden until I want it to slide in on page load. This doesn't seem to work unless I reload the page though. Hoping someone could help me out with this please :)

  • Facebook FQL Question

    - by Michael
    I'm trying to use the Facebook Javascript API to run FQL queries, and it works fine if I try and get users by username or uid, but doesn't work when I'm searching by name. function get_username() { var name = prompt("Enter name: ") FB.api( { method: 'fql.query', query: 'SELECT username FROM user WHERE name in "'+name+'"' }, function(response) { var x = response[0].username alert('Username is ' + x); } ); } I realize that this will probably return multiple users, but I can't figure out how to tell if it's returning multiple users or no users at all, it seems to freeze after trying to get response[0].username. I'm probably making a beginner mistake but any ideas?

  • How to Edit rows in DataGridView?

    - by DanSogaard
    So I've a button on my frmMain that opens up another frmEdit which has a datagridview that displays the following query: BindingSource bs = new BindingSource(); string sqlqry = "select p_Name from Items where p_Id=" + p_Id; SqlCeCommand cmd = new SqlCeCommand(sqlqry1, conn); SqlCeDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader(); bs.DataSource = rdr; dataGridView1.DataSource = bs; this.ShowDialog(parent); Now when frmEdit loads up the dgv displays the query just fine, but I can't Edit. I tried dgv.BeginEdit(true), but it doesn't work. The EditMode works fine if I used wizard to bind datasources to the dgv, but I need to execute my own customized queries and be able to update them directly.

  • Complex query in nHibernate using DetachedCriteria

    - by paszczi
    Hello! I'm currently trying to move from hand-crafted hql to queries constructed via DetachedCriteria. I have and HQL: from GenericObject genericObject left join fetch genericObject.Positions positions where (positions.Key.TrackedSourceID, positions.Key.PositionTimestamp) in (select gp.Key.TrackedSourceID, max(gp.Key.PositionTimestamp) from GenericPosition gp group by gp.Key.TrackedSourceID) Now using DetachedCriteria: var subquery = DetachedCriteria .For (typeof (GenericPosition), "gp") .SetProjection (Projections.ProjectionList () .Add (Projections.Property ("gp.Key.TrackedSourceID")) .Add (Projections.Max ("gp.Key.PositionTimestamp")) .Add (Projections.GroupProperty ("gp.Key.TrackedSourceID")) ); var criteriaQuery = DetachedCriteria .For (typeof (GenericObject), "genericObject") .CreateAlias ("genericObject.Positions", "positions") .SetFetchMode ("genericObject.Positions", FetchMode.Eager) .Add (Subqueries.In (??, subquery)) I don't know what to type instead of ?? to create expression like (positions.Key.TrackedSourceID, positions.Key.PositionTimestamp)

I keep getting the following error: System.Security.VerificationException: Operation could destabilize the runtime When I run a method that uses a linq statement to return an array I get this error, but only on my test server, which is windows server 2008. Everything works fine in my win 7 machine. The project is a .net 3.5. Any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks UPDATE: My linq queries return IQueryable.

  • Translate query to NHibernate

    - by Rob Walker
    I am trying to learn NHibernate, and am having difficulty translating a SQL query into one using the criteria API. The data model has tables: Part (Id, Name, ...), Order (Id, PartId, Qty), Shipment (Id, PartId, Qty) For all the parts I want to find the total quantity ordered and the total quantity shipped. In SQL I have: select shipment.part_id, sum(shipment.quantity), sum(order.quantity) from shipment cross join order on order.part_id = shipment.part_id group by shipment.part_id Alternatively: select id, (select sum(quantity) from shipment where part_id = part.id), (select sum(quantity) from order where part_id = part.id) from part But the latter query takes over twice as long to execute. Any suggestions on how to create these queries in (fluent) NHibernate? I have all the tables mapped and loading/saving/etc the entities works fine.

  • Multi-statement Table Valued Function vs Inline Table Valued Function

    - by AndyC
    ie: CREATE FUNCTION MyNS.GetUnshippedOrders() RETURNS TABLE AS RETURN SELECT a.SaleId, a.CustomerID, b.Qty FROM Sales.Sales a INNER JOIN Sales.SaleDetail b ON a.SaleId = b.SaleId INNER JOIN Production.Product c ON b.ProductID = c.ProductID WHERE a.ShipDate IS NULL GO versus: CREATE FUNCTION MyNS.GetLastShipped(@CustomerID INT) RETURNS @CustomerOrder TABLE (SaleOrderID INT NOT NULL, CustomerID INT NOT NULL, OrderDate DATETIME NOT NULL, OrderQty INT NOT NULL) AS BEGIN DECLARE @MaxDate DATETIME SELECT @MaxDate = MAX(OrderDate) FROM Sales.SalesOrderHeader WHERE CustomerID = @CustomerID INSERT @CustomerOrder SELECT a.SalesOrderID, a.CustomerID, a.OrderDate, b.OrderQty FROM Sales.SalesOrderHeader a INNER JOIN Sales.SalesOrderHeader b ON a.SalesOrderID = b.SalesOrderID INNER JOIN Production.Product c ON b.ProductID = c.ProductID WHERE a.OrderDate = @MaxDate AND a.CustomerID = @CustomerID RETURN END GO Is there an advantage to using one over the other? Is there certain scenarios when one is better than the other or are the differences purely syntactical? I realise the 2 example queries are doing different things but is there a reason I would write them in that way? Reading about them and the advantages/differences haven't really been explained. Thanks

  • MySQL Query Select using sub-select takes too long

    - by True Soft
    I noticed something strange while executing a select from 2 tables: SELECT * FROM table_1 WHERE id IN ( SELECT id_element FROM table_2 WHERE column_2=3103); This query took approximatively 242 seconds. But when I executed the subquery SELECT id_element FROM table_2 WHERE column_2=3103 it took less than 0.002s (and resulted 2 rows). Then, when I did SELECT * FROM table_1 WHERE id IN (/* prev.result */) it was the same: 0.002s. I was wondering why MySQL is doing the first query like that, taking much more time than the last 2 queries separately? Is it an optimal solution for selecting something based from the results of a sub-query? Other details: table_1 has approx. 9000 rows, and table_2 has 90000 rows. After I added an index on column_2 from table_2, the first query took 0.15s.

  • Eager-loading association count with Arel (Rails 3)

    - by Matchu
    Simple task: given that an article has many comments, be able to display in a long list of articles how many comments each article has. I'm trying to work out how to preload this data with Arel. The "Complex Aggregations" section of the README file seems to discuss that type of situation, but it doesn't exactly offer sample code, nor does it offer a way to do it in two queries instead of one joined query, which is worse for performance. Given the following: class Article has_many :comments end class Comment belongs_to :article end How can I preload for an article set how many comments each has?

  • How to send mail from ASP.NET with IIS6 SMTP in a dedicated server?

    - by Julio César
    Hi. I'm trying to configure a dedicated server that runs ASP.NET to send mail through the local IIS SMTP server but mail is getting stuck in the Queue folder and doesn't get delivered. I'm using this code in an .aspx page to test: <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" %> <% new System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient("localhost").Send("[email protected]", "[email protected]", "testing...", "Hello, world.com"); %> Then, I added the following to the Web.config file: <system.net> <mailSettings> <smtp> <network host="localhost"/> </smtp> </mailSettings> </system.net> In the IIS Manager I've changed the following in the properties of the "Default SMTP Virtual Server". General: [X] Enable Logging Access / Authentication: [X] Windows Integrated Authentication Access / Relay Restrictions: (o) Only the list below, Granted 127.0.0.1 Delivery / Advanced: Fully qualified domain name = thedomain.com Finally, I run the SMTPDiag.exe tool like this: C:\>smtpdiag.exe [email protected] [email protected] Searching for Exchange external DNS settings. Thanks @mattlant This is a dedicated server that's why I'm installing the SMTP manually. EDIT: I use exchange so its a little different, but its called a smart host in exchange, but in plain SMTP service config i think its called something else. Cant remember exactly the setting name. Thank you for pointing me at the Smart host field. Mail is getting delivered now. In the Default SMTP Virtual Server properties, the Delivery tab, click Advanced and fill the "Smart host" field with the address that your provider gives you. In my case (GoDaddy) it was k2smtpout.secureserver.net. More info here: http://help.godaddy.com/article/1283

  • SQL's Rownumber with Linq-to-entities

    - by mariki
    I am converting my project to use EF and also want to covert stored procedures into Linq-to-entities queries. This my SQL query (simple version) that I have trouble to convert: SELECT CategoryID, Title as CategoryTitle,Description, LastProductTitle,LastProductAddedDate FROM ( SELECT C.CategoryID, C.Title,C.Description, C.Section, P.Title as LastProductTitle, P.AddedDate as LastProductAddedDate, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY P.CategoryID ORDER BY P.AddedDate DESC) AS Num FROM Categories C LEFT JOIN Products P ON P.CategoryID = C.CategoryID ) OuterSelect WHERE OuterSelect.Num = 1 In words: I want to return all Categories (from Categories table) and title and date of addition of the product (from Products table) that was added last to this category. How can I achieve this using Entity frame work query? In most efficient way.

  • Sharepoint - connectable receiving, XSLT editable web part?

    - by Corey O.
    You can use the "Data View" webpart to take data from a database call, then you can edit the XSLT manually to make it look and do whatever you want, within the scope of that data and XSLT capabilities. Is there a web part that allows me to do the same thing, but with data that is received by a connected webpart source rather than a database set? For example: I'd like to be able to pull in a Data View webpart that queries a bunch of data and makes it available all over the page. Then, I would like to hide that Data View. Once it is hidden, I'd like to be able to take another customizable webpart and pull a field (or multiple fields if possible) from the Data View webpart via a webpart connection. This would allow me to display various fields in creative formats without having to call the same query multiple times on the same page by different webparts. Is there an in house webpart that will allow me to do this?

  • problem with codeigniter using odbc database driver

    - by Nir Gavish
    i’ve run into a curious problem with codeigniter's odbc driver. i’m connecting from a linux machine to an MSSQL 2008 machine using FreeTDS. while i get that the ‘num_rows’ function always returns -1, and that is fully a database/driver issue - for some reason when i try to create a -result(), the whole application crashes (error 500, sometimes just a blank page), if i’m lucky, i get an error message informing me that the application died because it tried to allocated 2 terrabytes of memory(!). This happens irregularly, ie: every few refreshes. sometimes it runs fine, sometimes the page returns error 500 and sometimes it gives the memory allocation error - in any case it’s not really something that can be reproduced with percision, and the queries are SUPER simple. ideas anyone?

  • Django Forms, Foreign Key and Initial retuen all associated values

    - by gramware
    I a working with Django forms. The issue I have is that Foreign Key fields and those using initial take all associated entries (all records associated with that record other then the one entry i wanted e.g instead of getting a primary key, i get the primary key, post subject, post body and all other values attributed with that record). The form and the other associated queries still work well, but this behaviour is clogging my database. How do i get the specific field i want instead of all records. An example of my models is here: A form field for childParentId returns postID, postSubject and postBody instead of postID alone. Also form = ForumCommentForm(initial = {'postSubject':forum.objects.get(postID = postID), }) returns all records related to postID. class forum(models.Model): postID = models.AutoField(primary_key=True) postSubject = models.CharField(max_length=25) postBody = models.TextField() postPoster = models.ForeignKey(UserProfile) postDate = models.DateTimeField(auto_now_add=True) child = models.BooleanField() childParentId = models.ForeignKey('self',blank=True, null=True) deleted = models.BooleanField() def __unicode__(self): return u'%s %s %s %s %s' % (self.postSubject, self.postBody, self.postPoster, self.postDate, self.postID

  • How to Set Timeout for Ruby ODBC Driver for SQL Server?

    - by Seth Ladd
    Hello, I would like to know how to explicitly set a timeout for the Ruby DBI ODBC driver, when connecting to SQL Server. I would like long running queries to simply timeout and cancel themselves, saving further server resources and Rails processes. This was happening while we were using the ADO based Ruby driver, but now that we've switched to DBD::ODBC we are no longer experiencing timeouts. I've looked around but cannot find out how to set the query timeout value. I've tried explicitly setting some values in the driver, and specifying both Timeout and ConnectionTimeout and Connect Timeout in the DSN configuration for the connection. No luck. Your tips and advice are very appreciated. Thanks! Seth

  • MySQL query performance - 100Mb ethernet vs 1Gb ethernet

    - by Rob Penridge
    Hi All I've just started a new job and noticed that the analysts computers are connected to the network at 100Mbps. The queries we run against the MySQL server can easily be 500MB+ and it seems at times when the servers are under high load the DBAs kill low priority jobs as they are taking too long to run. My question is this... How much of this server time is spent executing the request, and how much time is spent returning the data to the client? Could the query speeds be improved by upgrading the network connections to 1Gbps? Thanks Rob

  • Combine multiple dataset columns to one dataset

    - by Matt
    I have multiple datasets that I would like to combine into one. There is a common ID field that can be associated to each row. Calling Merge on the dataset will add additional rows to the dataset, but I would like to combine the additional columns. There are too many fields to do this in one query and therefore would make it unmanageable. Each individual query would be able to handle ordering to ensure the data is placed in the correct row. For Example lets say I have two queries resulting in two datasets: SELECT ID, colA, colB SELECT colC, colD The resulting dataset would look like ID colA colB colC colD 1 a b c d 2 e f g h Any ideas on ways to accomplish this?
