  • SharePoint 2010: Architecture and Planning information

    Recently I have been delivering Design and Planning Sessions at client sites, and as of recent SharePoint 2010 has been part of that mix. After the activity that goes on during those sessions getting towards the end of them is always a cross roads for clients.  Why?  Because it is time to kick the wheels.  Remind them, and remember, this is not a 1 or 4 weeks ordeal.  This has to be very well planned.     Hello, One time I faced an issue where my customer is having an HTTP 500 internal server error while trying to access any SharePoint site. The problem appeared once he moved back and forth with inheriting/breaking inheritance of permissions over different levels in the site collection. "Security corruption in database" sounds very tough for a customer running a production portal with a backup that can make him lose around 3 weeks of valuable data. However, the solution tends not to be that hard, there's an stsadm command that help us detect the corruption and even delete the orphaned items causing the corruption. Follow these steps: a. stsadm -o databaserepair -url http://SITEURL -databasename DBNAME                and it returned some orphaned items.            b. stsadm -o databaserepair -url http://SITEURL -databasename DBNAME -deletecorruption                and it removed the orphaned items.     I am using google custom search for my site, I want google to provide at most 2 searches from a site. I am not sure whether it is possible or not but it seems there is no such option on google CSE. For example my CSE has 10 listed sites, what I want is that whenever user makes a search then search results should show at most two links from a site. In general CSE is resulting multiple results from one site only and those comes on page 1, if it is at most 2 from a site then user has better chance to have links from other sites too.

    I'm working on a project where we're using Windows Desktop Search (WDS) to index files on a web share and then later allow the user to search via a website for documents in the share. These documents are transferred to the share via FTP, however it would seem that either the computer never goes idle to index or at some point the indexing stops. Is there a way from the command line or within the program itself to force this to happen without having to re-invent the wheel? Using .NET 3.5 and C#.

  • Index a set of files to search their text quickly?

    I have a unique need: I am frequently searching a large set of text files for a keyword. Right now, I open up Notepad++ and use the "Find in files" feature. It works just fine, but with the amount of files, each search takes several minutes to complete. Is there a good program more suited for this purpose, perhaps that indexes a set of files and then lets you search the set repeatedly and very quickly? It would greatly speed up my workflow.

Because both processes (build-deploy and activate) totally independent, how can I attach a process with the worker process ?

    I'm using SQL Server 2008 FTS and I'd like to be able to integrate weighted rankings into my search results. However, I'd like to weight the columns that a search term is found in differently. For example, if I have a Title column and a Description column, I want matches fond in Title to rank higher than matches in Description. Is this possible in SQL Server 2008? As far as can I see, I can only add weights to specific terms, not column locations.
