• Windows no longer boots on dual-boot system

  While trying to delete an Ubuntu partition from my hdd I accidentally rebooted my computer. (Note: the partition was originally made from an existing partition using paragon.) After that when I tried to start the computer I got the GRUB rescue terminal prompt. I wasn't able to do much from that, but I did manage to boot Ubuntu from a USB drive and to run boot-repair. But now when I try to select Windows 7 from the boot selection menu I get the error 0xc0000225. (At the moment though it seems like they are gaining some traction). Now, this is not directly related to the question, which is would you use a LISP dialect for a production program? What kind of program and why? Usages of the kind of being integrated into some other code (e.g. C) are included as well, but note that it is what you mean in your answer. Broad concepts are preferred but specific applications are okey as well.

  For me jQuery is the 'Plan-B' for everything.And most of my projects include the use of jQuery for something or the other, so I decided to write a small note on what works best while using jQuery along with SharePoint.I prefer to use the jQuery JavaScript library, which is far more robust, easier to use, and allows for plugins. Follow the steps below to add jQuery to your master page. For office 365, the prefered location to add jQuery files is the "Site Asserts" library.Deployment Best PracticesThey are only as good as the context it’s being referenced.  In other words, take into account your world before applying it.Script your deployment options.  Folder in SPD. Use the file system.  Make external references.  The JQuery library is on the Microsoft Ajax Content Delivery Network. You may even choose to publish to and from the document library. (pros and cons to this approach)Reference options when referencing the script.ScriptLink will make sure it’s loaded at the top of the page and only loaded once. • Seeking some advice on pursuing MS in CS from Stanford or Carnegie Mellon or Caltech

  What kinds of projects are given preference in top notch colleges like Stanford, Caltech, etc to get admission into MS programme in Computer Science? I have an average academic portfolio. I'm pursuing Btech from a not so popular university in India with an aggregate of 67%. I'm good at designing algorithms and possess good knowledge of core subjects but helpless with my percentage. So, I think the only way I can impress them is with my project(s). Can anyone please suggest me the kinds of projects that are given preference by such top level institutes? Could you please also suggest some good projects? My area of interest would be Artificial Intelligence or any application/software/algorithm design which could be of some help to common people. Or if you have any other random idea for my project then please share it with me. Note: Web based projects and management projects like lib management wouldn't be my priority.

• The entire content of my Wordpress page has disappeared

  I have a blog installed on my site using Wordpress. Last week I upgraded Wordpress from 2.6 to 3.0.4 (I had to do this manually). All went well, or so I thought, but I have just noticed that the content of an existing page has vanished. The page URL still works, but all content has disappeared - doctype, html tags, body tags, everything. Please note, this is specific to pages - posts are still displaying fine. I have since created a brand new page which does not display the content either. Things I have tried include Switching to a freshly installed theme Deactivating all plugins Setting the problem page to draft, and back again Deleting the .htaccess file I suspect it's a database problem and have contacted my hosting company who have said the only thing they can do is restore the DB from a backup, but that I should consider it a last resort. Does anyone have any further ideas what to try?

• How to Align Gun with Bullets

  I have a top-down 2D shooter. I have an image of a player holding a gun, that rotates to face the mouse. Please note that the gun isn't a separate image tethered to the player, but rather part of the player. Right now, bullets are created at the player's x and y. This works when the player is facing the right way, but not when they rotate. The bullets move in the right direction, but don't come from the gun. How can I fix this? • Is committing/checking code everyday a good practice?

  I've been reading Martin Fowler's note on Continuous Integration and he lists as a must "Everyone Commits To the Mainline Every Day". I do not like to commit code unless the section I'm working on is complete and that in practice I commit my code every three days: one day to investigate/reproduce the task and make some preliminary changes, a second day to complete the changes, and a third day to write the tests and clean it up^ for submission. I would not feel comfortable submitting the code sooner. Now, I pull changes from the repository and integrate them locally usually twice a day, but I do not commit that often unless I can carve out a smaller piece of work. Question: is committing everyday such a good practice that I should change my workflow to accomodate it, or it is not that advisable? ^ The order is more arbitrary and depends on the task, my point was to illustrate the time span and activities, not the exact sequence.

• Multiplayer game communication framework for mac/ios

I'll be using cocso2d for graphics/game engine, however I am largely blank on what to use for multiplayer communication. Please note that I cannot use central severs e.g. SmartFox, RedDwarf, etc since I want the players to "host" games for others and be able to play it on their LAN, VPN or my own servers. Any pointers? I checked lidgren but it's for .NET only and hence not an option for me. EDIT: just in case it wasn't clear, the messaging has to be real time hence it's probably going to be over UDP

Provide feedback to users@jax-rs-spec. Jersey 2.0, the Reference Implementation of JAX-RS 2.0, released their fourth milestone a few days ago as well. Several features have already been implemented there. Note, this is an early development preview and several parts of the API and implementation are still evolving. Feel like trying it out? • Android Java rectangle collision detection not working

  I had been hard coding a collision detection system which was buggy. Then I came across using rectangles for collsion detection. So I put it all in and it does not work, I put a log in and it never logged. Note to Java programmers who are not Android programers: Android uses the word Rect instead of Rectangle. • Demantra Partitioning and the First PK Column

    We have found that it is necessary in Demantra to have an index that matches the partition key, although it does not have to be the PK.  It is ok   to create a new index instead of changing the PK.   For example, if my PK on SALES_DATA is (ITEM_ID, LOCATION_ID, SALES_DATE) and I decide partition by SALES_DATE, then I should add an index starting   with the partition key like this: (SALES_DATE, ITEM_ID, LOCATION_ID).   * Note that the first column of the new index matches the partition key.   It might also be helpful to create a 2nd index with the other PK columns reversed (SALES_DATE, LOCATION_ID, ITEM_ID). Again, the first column   matches the partition key.

• How to Use KDE Dialogs in Gtk Apps

  I want to use KDE file dialogs (file open, file save) in Firefox in Kubuntu 12.04. This requires something like the ancient KGtk script, but for KDE 4.x and recent Firefox versions. Does such a thing exist? Note, I'm not asking about theming/looks. I'm asking about actually using KDE file dialogs instead of XUL or GTK dialog. And the preference ui.allow_platform_file_picker doesn't affect this. I have already tried setting it to true and false. Neither options results in using KDE dialogs. Thanks.

• Error in my Separating Axis Theorem collision code

  The only collision experience i've had was with simple rectangles, i wanted to find something that would allow me to define polygonal areas for collision and have been trying to make sense of SAT using these two links Though i'm a bit iffy with the math for the most part i feel like i understand the theory! Except my implementation somewhere down the line must be off as: (excuse the hideous font) As mentioned above i have defined a CollisionPolygon class where most of my theory is implemented and then have a helper class called Vect which was meant to be for Vectors but has also been used to contain a vertex given that both just have two float values. I've tried stepping through the function and inspecting the values to solve things but given so many axes and vectors and new math to work out as i go i'm struggling to find the erroneous calculation(s) and would really appreciate any help.   Problem Statement - Given a NxM grid of 1s & 0s (1s mark walls, while 0s indicate empty chambers), the task is to identify the number of chambers & the size of the largest. And just to whet my curiosity, to find in which chamber, a cell belongs. It seems like an ad hoc problem, since the regular algorithms just don't fit in. I just can't get the logic for writing an algorithm for the problem. If you get it, pseudo-code would be of great help! • NEON Intrinsic Support in CE7

  Just a side note for people who may be interested in creating high performance code to take advantage on NEON instruction set but wish to use NEON intrinsic instaed of coding assembly. Compiler won't generate NEON opcode unless application use the NEON intrinsic explicitly. Basically, you need ARMv7 build enviroment, so compiler can emit NEON opcode. Intrinsic prototype can be found in public\COMMON\sdk\inc\arm_neon.h and that is all you got. If you ever find an NEON opcode does not have corresponding intrinsic, you still need to use the old trick - write that part of code in assembly.

• How to host a simple website using a domain name I own

  I'm familiar with hosting webapps when I'm doing "the whole shebang" of installing / configuring / setting up Apache/Tomcat/PostreSQL / "coding" the website myself using HTML / JSP / CSS etc. on dedicated servers I'm renting. But in the above case, I'm "owning" the entire stack: from the Debian GNU/Linux dedicated servers to every single file that is served. Now I'd like to do something much simpler and I must admit I don't know what's involved at all. I'd like to host a simple website made of only a few static pages (no database, no nothing) and I'd like it to be accessible from "example.com". What needs to be technically done to have such a thing? How is the DNS supposed to be set up? Note that I do not want to host this on one of my dedicated servers.

• Unreal 3 Editor (Unreal Tournament 3) Why does the X Y Z translations now rotate along with my static meshes?

  So I was making a map for UT3, using the Unreal 3 Editor provided, and all was going well. However I was doing some work with InterpActors and Vehicle Spawners, when I must have hit a key by mistake (or other wise somehow changed something) by mistake. Now the X Y Z translations that are used to move objects around in the editor will rotate along with the object (Ive put images down below to help show what I mean) - This is very annoying because it also changes the direction the arrow keys move a rotated object, in the example below, the Down arrow key will now move the object to the right. How can I fix this? (Note both images are taken from the same viewpoint) Before Rotation: After Rotation: P.S. • Unwanted authentication request window at login after upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10

  I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10 (64bit) on my Dell Laptop. Since then, at each login, a dialog window entitled "Authentication request ... Please enter the password for account "[email protected]"." appears (I would rather post a screenshot if I could, but I am not entitled to do that because I do not have the necessary 10 reputation credits). I neither have any idea why my password (I checked it a hundred times) does not work ("Password was incorrect") nor why this dialog is displayed at all. As said, I never saw it before 13.10. I looked around in different forums and it seems (please correct me if I am wrong) that it stems from evolution server. I also deleted ~/.config/evolution/ entirely - without any effect. Further note that I am not using evolution at all and I would rather like to get rid of it completely, but I do not dare to remove evolution-server. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Ulrich

• 302 Redirect causes garbage at end of Wordpress link in Facebook

  When I try to link my Wordpress blog to Facebook, the url doesn't resolve properly. There's garbage appended at the end and Facebook is not able to retrieve information from the site. Happens in every page, post or main entry. Here's what happens: http://clarissarezende.com.br/ shows up in Facebook as http://clarissarezende.com.br/UPLcS/ (when copy/paste the link) and no information about the site shows up in FB. I'm using Wordpress 3.3.1 with ProPhoto 4. Recently I moved the DNS entry on my ISP. The blog is hosted at clarissarezende.com.br/public_html/blog2 and before the DNS would point to public_html and then I changed it to public_html/blog2. Note that I did not move any Wordpress files. Made the (I think) necessary changes all over Facebook, but still no dice... Any ideas on what can be happening?

• Where did all of the options go? [closed]

  In the last version of Ubuntu I used (10.04) I had the following options, which I can not find on 11.10: Set amount of time before screen dims Show percent instead of time in battery icon Change/add screensaver Change default applications (especially in the new launcher) Also, is there any way to make it so unity opens to more apps/all instead of the current default? Basically I just need to know if there's any way to customize Ubuntu that little bit more. Any help with any of the options above would be greatly appreciated! Note: I'm a noob and don't know much about command line, so gui apps would be preferred, if possible.
