• How to access variables in shared memory

- by user1723361
I am trying to create a shared memory segment containing three integers and an array. The segment is created and a pointer is attached, but when I try to access the values of the variables (whether changing, printing, etc.) I get a segmentation fault. Here is the code I tried: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdbool.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <errno.h> #include <sys/types.h> #include <sys/ipc.h> #include <sys/sem.h> #define SIZE 10 int* shm_front; int* shm_end; int* shm_count; int* shm_array; int shm_size = 3*sizeof(int) + sizeof(shm_array[SIZE]); int main(int argc, char* argsv[]) { int shmid; //create shared memory segment if((shmid = shmget(IPC_PRIVATE, shm_size, 0644)) == -1) { printf("error in shmget"); exit(1); } //obtain the pointer to the segment if((shm_front = (int*)shmat(shmid, (void *)0, 0)) == (void *)-1) { printf("error in shmat"); exit(1); } //move down the segment to set the other pointers shm_end = shm_front + 1; shm_count = shm_front + 2; shm_array = shm_front + 3; //tests on shm //*shm_end = 10; //gives segmentation fault //printf("\n%d", *shm_front); //gives segmentation fault //clean-up //get rid of shared memory shmdt(shm_front); shmctl(shmid, IPC_RMID, NULL); //printf("\n\n"); return 0; } I tried accessing the shared memory by dereferencing the pointer to the struct, but got a segmentation fault each time.

• C# drawing and invalidating 2 lines to meet

- by BlueMonster
If i have 2 lines on a page as such: e.Graphics.DrawLine(blackPen, w, h, h, w); e.Graphics.DrawLine(blackPen, w2, h2, h2, w2); how would i animate the first line to reach the second line's position? I have the following method which calculates the distance between two points (i'm assuming i would use this?) public int Distance2D(int x1, int y1, int x2, int y2) { // ______________________ //d = √ (x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2 // //Our end result int result = 0; //Take x2-x1, then square it double part1 = Math.Pow((x2 - x1), 2); //Take y2-y1, then sqaure it double part2 = Math.Pow((y2 - y1), 2); //Add both of the parts together double underRadical = part1 + part2; //Get the square root of the parts result = (int)Math.Sqrt(underRadical); //Return our result return result; } How would i re-draw the line (on a timer) to reach the second line's position? I've looked a lot into XAML (story-boarding) and such - but i want to know how to do this on my own. Any ideas? I know i would need a method which runs in a loop re-drawing the line after moving the position a tid bit. I would have to call Invalidate() in order to make the line appear as though it's moving... but how would i do this? how would i move that line slowly over to the other line? I'm pretty sure i'd have to use double buffering if i'm doing this as well... as such: SetStyle(ControlStyles.DoubleBuffer | ControlStyles.AllPaintingInWmPaint | ControlStyles.UserPaint, true); This doesn't quiet work, i'm not quiet sure how to fix it. Any ideas? protected override void OnPaint(PaintEventArgs e) { Distance2D(w, h, w2, h2); if (w2 != w && h2 != h) { e.Graphics.DrawLine(blackPen, (w * (int)frame), (h * (int)frame), (h * (int)frame), (w * (int)frame)); e.Graphics.DrawLine(blackPen, w2, h2, h2, w2); } else { t.Abort(); } base.OnPaint(e); } public void MoveLine() { for (int i = 0; i < 126; i++) { frame += .02; Invalidate(); Thread.Sleep(30); } } private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { t = new Thread(new ThreadStart(MoveLine)); t.Start(); }

• How can I access the int values of an object in an NSMutableArray?

- by Daniel
I try to access some values in a NSMutableArray I created, but I only get some numbers (address?) if I try to access them. I was able to initialize an array and can add and change objects with [myNSMutableArray addObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:10]] and [myNSMutableArray replaceObjectAtIndex:0 withObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:47] I also can print the value at index [0] with NSLog(@"%@", [myNSMutableArray objectAtIndex:0]); and I get 47 as expected. But how can I access the integer value of the object in the array so I can save it tomyIntValue?

• Error:A generic error occurred in GDI+

- by sanfra1983
Hi, I created a web project on the server, and when I upload an image shows me the error Error: A generic error occurred in GDI +. I have read many links on the net that talk about this issue, and although I made the changes, nothing went wrong. I was thinking if the case is not an issue of permissions to folders. In fact I have two folders one inside the other. This is the code to resize the image: public Bitmaps ResizeImage (Stream stream, int? width, int? height) ( System.Drawing.Bitmap bmpOut = null; const int defaultWidth = 800; const int defaultHeight = 600; int width = lnWidth == null? defaultWidth: (int) width; int height = lnHeight == null? defaultHeight: (int) height; try ( LoBMP bitmap = new Bitmap (stream); ImageFormat loFormat = loBMP.RawFormat; decimal lnRatio; lnNewWidth int = 0; lnNewHeight int = 0; if (loBMP.Width <& & lnWidth loBMP.Height <lnHeight) ( loBMP return; ) if (loBMP.Width> loBMP.Height) ( lnRatio = (decimal) lnWidth / loBMP.Width; lnNewWidth = lnWidth; decimal = lnTemp loBMP.Height lnRatio *; lnNewHeight = (int) lnTemp; ) else ( lnRatio = (decimal) lnHeight / loBMP.Height; lnNewHeight = lnHeight; decimal = lnTemp loBMP.Width lnRatio *; lnNewWidth = (int) lnTemp; ) bmpOut = new Bitmap (lnNewWidth, lnNewHeight); Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage (bmpOut); g.InterpolationMode = System.Drawing.Drawing2D.InterpolationMode.HighQualityBicubic; g.FillRectangle (Brushes.White, 0, 0, lnNewWidth, lnNewHeight); g.DrawImage (loBMP, 0, 0, lnNewWidth, lnNewHeight); loBMP.Dispose (); ) catch ( return null; ) bmpOut return; ) and this is the code that I insert in the codebehind: string filepath = AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory + img_veterinario / "; string = filepathM AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory + img_veterinario / img_veterinarioM; Reseize Reseize R = new (); Bitmap = photosFileOriginal r.ResizeImage (fucasiclinici.PostedFile.InputStream, 400, 400); Bitmap = photosFileMiniatura r.ResizeImage (fucasiclinici.PostedFile.InputStream, 72, 72); String filename = Path.GetFileName (fucasiclinici.PostedFile.FileName); photosFileOriginal.Save (Path.Combine (filepath, filename)); photosFileMiniatura.Save (Path.Combine (filepathM, filename)); Can you help me? • Why can't I create an abstract constructor on an abstract C# class?

- by Anthony D
I am creating an abstract class. I want each of my derived classes to be forced to implement a specific signature of constructor. As such, I did what I would have done has I wanted to force them to implement a method, I made an abstract one. public abstract class A { abstract A(int a, int b); } However I get a message saying the abstract modifier is invalid on this item. My goal was to force some code like this. public class B : A { public B(int a, int b) : base(a, b) { //Some other awesome code. } } This is all C# .NET code. Can anyone help me out? Update 1 I wanted to add some things. What I ended up with was this. private A() { } protected A(int a, int b) { //Code } That does what some folks are saying, default is private, and the class needs to implement a constructor. However that doesn't FORCE a constructor with the signature A(int a, int b). public abstract class A { protected abstract A(int a, int b) { } } Update 2 I should be clear, to work around this I made my default constructor private, and my other constructor protected. I am not really looking for a way to make my code work. I took care of that. I am looking to understand why C# does not let you do this.

• Strange (Undefined?) Behavior of Free in C

- by Chris Cirefice
This is really strange... and I can't debug it (tried for about two hours, debugger starts going haywire after a while...). Anyway, I'm trying to do something really simple: Free an array of strings. The array is in the form: char **myStrings. The array elements are initialized as: myString[index] = malloc(strlen(word)); myString[index] = word; and I'm calling a function like this: free_memory(myStrings, size); where size is the length of the array (I know this is not the problem, I tested it extensively and everything except this function is working). free_memory looks like this: void free_memory(char **list, int size) { for (int i = 0; i < size; i ++) { free(list[i]); } free(list); } Now here comes the weird part. if (size> strlen(list[i])) then the program crashes. For example, imagine that I have a list of strings that looks something like this: myStrings[0] = "Some"; myStrings[1] = "random"; myStrings[2] = "strings"; And thus the length of this array is 3. If I pass this to my free_memory function, strlen(myStrings[0]) > 3 (4 3), and the program crashes. However, if I change myStrings[0] to be "So" instead, then strlen(myStrings[0]) < 3 (2 < 3) and the program does not crash. So it seems to me that free(list[i]) is actually going through the char[] that is at that location and trying to free each character, which I imagine is undefined behavior. The only reason I say this is because I can play around with the size of the first element of myStrings and make the program crash whenever I feel like it, so I'm assuming that this is the problem area. Note: I did try to debug this by stepping through the function that calls free_memory, noting any weird values and such, but the moment I step into the free_memory function, the debugger crashes, so I'm not really sure what is going on. Nothing is out of the ordinary until I enter the function, then the world explodes. Another note: I also posted the shortened version of the source for this program (not too long; Pastebin) here. I am compiling on MinGW with the c99 flag on. PS - I just thought of this. I am indeed passing numUniqueWords to the free function, and I know that this does not actually free the entire piece of memory that I allocated. I've called it both ways, that's not the issue. And I left it how I did because that is the way that I will be calling it after I get it to work in the first place, I need to revise some of my logic in that function. Source, as per request (on-site): #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> #include <ctype.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include "words.h" int getNumUniqueWords(char text[], int size); int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { setvbuf(stdout, NULL, 4, _IONBF); // For Eclipse... stupid bug. --> does NOT affect the program, just the output to console! int nbr_words; char text[] = "Some - \"text, a stdin\". We'll have! also repeat? We'll also have a repeat!"; int length = sizeof(text); nbr_words = getNumUniqueWords(text, length); return 0; } void free_memory(char **list, int size) { for (int i = 0; i < size; i ++) { // You can see that printing the values is fine, as long as free is not called. // When free is called, the program will crash if (size > strlen(list[i])) //printf("Wanna free value %d w/len of %d: %s\n", i, strlen(list[i]), list[i]); free(list[i]); } free(list); } int getNumUniqueWords(char text[], int length) { int numTotalWords = 0; char *word; printf("Length: %d characters\n", length); char totalWords[length]; strcpy(totalWords, text); word = strtok(totalWords, " ,.-!?()\"0123456789"); while (word != NULL) { numTotalWords ++; printf("%s\n", word); word = strtok(NULL, " ,.-!?()\"0123456789"); } printf("Looks like we counted %d total words\n\n", numTotalWords); char *uniqueWords[numTotalWords]; char *tempWord; int wordAlreadyExists = 0; int numUniqueWords = 0; char totalWordsCopy[length]; strcpy(totalWordsCopy, text); for (int i = 0; i < numTotalWords; i++) { uniqueWords[i] = NULL; } // Tokenize until all the text is consumed. word = strtok(totalWordsCopy, " ,.-!?()\"0123456789"); while (word != NULL) { // Look through the word list for the current token. for (int j = 0; j < numTotalWords; j ++) { // Just for clarity, no real meaning. tempWord = uniqueWords[j]; // The word list is either empty or the current token is not in the list. if (tempWord == NULL) { break; } //printf("Comparing (%s) with (%s)\n", tempWord, word); // If the current token is the same as the current element in the word list, mark and break if (strcmp(tempWord, word) == 0) { printf("\nDuplicate: (%s)\n\n", word); wordAlreadyExists = 1; break; } } // Word does not exist, add it to the array. if (!wordAlreadyExists) { uniqueWords[numUniqueWords] = malloc(strlen(word)); uniqueWords[numUniqueWords] = word; numUniqueWords ++; printf("Unique: %s\n", word); } // Reset flags and continue. wordAlreadyExists = 0; word = strtok(NULL, " ,.-!?()\"0123456789"); } // Print out the array just for funsies - make sure it's working properly. for (int x = 0; x <numUniqueWords; x++) { printf("Unique list %d: %s\n", x, uniqueWords[x]); } printf("\nNumber of unique words: %d\n\n", numUniqueWords); // Right below is where things start to suck. free_memory(uniqueWords, numUniqueWords); return numUniqueWords; }

• solving problems recursively in C

- by Harry86
Our professor gave us the following assignment: A "correct" series is one inwhich the sum of its members equals to the index of its first member. The program is supposed to find the length of the LONGEST "correct" series within a series of n numbers. for example: if the input series would be arr[4]={1, 1, 0, 0} the output (longest "correct" series) would be 3. arr[0]=1. 0!=1 therefore the longest series here is 0. arr[1]=1,and 1=1. but the follwing members also sum up to 1 as shown below: 1=arr[1]+arr[2]+arr[3] = 1+ 0 + 0, therefore the longest series here is 3. the output in this example is 3. That's what I got so far: int solve(int arr[], int index, int length,int sum_so_far) { int maxwith,maxwithout; if(index==length) return 0; maxwith = 1+ solve(arr,index+1,length,sum_so_far+arr[index]); maxwithout = solve(arr,index+1,length,arr[index+1]); if(sum_so_far+arr[index]==index) if(maxwith>maxwithout) return maxwith; return maxwithout; return 0; } int longestIndex(int arr[], int index,int length) { return solve(arr,0,length,0); } What am I doing wrong here? Thanks a lot for your time... Harry

• Constructors with inheritance in c++

- by Crystal
If you have 3 classes, with the parent class listed first shape- 2d shapes, 3d shapes - circle, sphere When you write your constructor for the circle class, would you ever just initialize the parent Shape object and then your current object, skipping the middle class. It seems to me you could have x,y coordinates for Shape and initialize those in the constructor, and initialize a radius in the circle or sphere class, but in 2d or 3d shape classes, I wouldn't know what to put in the constructor since it seems like it would be identical to shape. So is something like this valid Circle::Circle(int x, int y, int r) : Shape(x, y), r(r) {} I get a compile error of: illegal member initialization: 'Shape' is not a base or member So I wasn't sure if my code was legal or best practice even. Or if instead you'd have the middle class just do what the top level Shape class does TwoDimensionalShape::TwoDimensionalShape(int x, int y) : Shape (x, y) {} and then in the Circle class Circle::Circle(int x, int y, int r) : TwoDimensionalShape(x, y), r(r) {}

• Why are Java primitive types' modifiers `public`, `abstract`, & `final`?

- by oconnor0
In the process of doing some reflection on Java types, I came across an oddity that I do not understand. Inspecting int for its modifiers returns public, abstract, and final. I understand public and final, but the presence of abstract on a primitive type is non-obvious to me. Why is this the case? Edit: I am not reflecting on Integer but on int: import java.lang.reflect.Modifier; public class IntegerReflection { public static void main(final String[] args) { System.out.println(String.format("int.class == Integer.class -> %b", int.class == Integer.class)); System.out.println(String.format("int.class modifiers: %s", Modifier.toString(int.class.getModifiers()))); System.out.println(String.format("Integer.class modifiers: %s", Modifier.toString(Integer.class.getModifiers()))); } } The output when run: int.class == Integer.class -> false int.class modifiers: public abstract final Integer.class modifiers: public final

• Should constant contructor aguments be passed by reference or value?

- by Mike
When const values are passed to an object construct should they be passed by reference or value? If you pass by value and the arguments are immediately fed to initializes are two copies being made? Is this something that the compiler will automatically take care of. I have noticed that all textbook examples of constructors and intitializers pass by value but this seems inefficient to me. class Point { public: int x; int y; Point(const int _x, const int _y) : x(_x), y(_y) {} }; int main() { const int a = 1, b = 2; Point p(a,b); Point q(3,5); cout << p.x << "," << p.y << endl; cout << q.x << "," << q.y << endl; } vs. class Point { public: int x; int y; Point(const int& _x, const int& _y) : x(_x), y(_y) {} }; Both compile and do the same thing but which is correct?

• Creating a New Reverse Java Array

- by mandir08
Given an array of ints length 3, return a new array with the elements in reverse order, so {1, 2, 3} becomes {3, 2, 1}. public int[] reverse3(int[] nums) { int[] values = new int[3]; for(int i=0; i<=nums.length-1; i++) { for(int j=nums.length-1; j>=0; j--) { values[i]=nums[j]; } } return values; } I cant get this to work properly, usually the last int in the array, becomes every single int in the new array

I used: repo init -u git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git repo initialized in /home/tarandeep/code/Android repo sync ... It downloaded GBs of data (I can confirm via network monitor) and then nothing appeared in the Android directory.

• Are WCF Services encrypted automatically if they go over SSL?

- by michael
Basically, if I have a plain WCF Service over HTTPS is it automatically secure? [ServiceContract] public interface ICalc { [OperationContract] int add(int a, int b); } public class Calculator : ICalc { public int add(int a, int b) { return a + b; } } I figure the actual SOAP message isn't encrypted here, but is it still secure if I use https? Basically, if I use a basichttpbinding with no security settings in my config over https://www.myserver.com/services/Calc.svc is that secure?

• Ambiguous constructor call

In my project I have a lot of code like this: int[][] a = new int[firstDimension][]; for (int i=0; i<firstDimension; i++) { a[i] = new int[secondDimension]; } Types of elements are different. Is there any way of writing a method like createArray(typeof(int), firstDimension, secondDimension); and getting new int[firstDimension][secondDimension]? Once again, type of elements is known only at runtime.

What I am confused on is about the isNumPalindrome() function. It returns a boolean value of either true or false. How am I suppose to use that so I can display if its a palindrome or not. For ex. If (isNumPalindrome = true) cout "Your number is a palindrome" else "your number is not a palindrome." #include "stdafx.h" int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { return 0; } #include <iostream> #include <cmath> using namespace std; int askNumber(); bool isNumPalindrome(); int num, pwr; int main() { askNumber(); isNumPalindrome(); return 0; } bool isNumPalindrome() { int pwr = 0; if (num < 10) return true; else { while (num / static_cast<int>(pow(10.0, pwr)) >=10) pwr++; while (num >=10) { int tenTopwr = static_cast<int>(pow(10.0, pwr)); if ((num / tenTopwr) != (num% 10)) return false; else { num = num % tenTopwr; num = num / 10; pwr = pwr-2; } } return true; } } int askNumber() { cout << "Enter an integer in order to determine if it is a palindrome: " ; cin >> num; cout << endl; return num; }

Button button(m_screen,0,0,50,50,255,0,0) ... ... Button::Button(SDL_Surface* screen,int x,int y,int w,int h,int R, int G, int B) { SDL_Rect box; SDL_Surface * ButtonSurface; ButtonSurface = NULL ; Uint32 rmask, gmask, bmask, amask; #if SDL_BYTEORDER == SDL_BIG_ENDIAN rmask = 0xff000000; gmask = 0x00ff0000; bmask = 0x0000ff00; amask = 0x000000ff; #else rmask = 0x000000ff; gmask = 0x0000ff00; bmask = 0x00ff0000; amask = 0xff000000; #endif box.x = x; box.y = y; box.w = w; box.h = h; ButtonSurface = SDL_CreateRGBSurface(SDL_SWSURFACE, box.w,box.h, 32, rmask, gmask, bmask, amask); if(ButtonSurface == NULL) { LOG_MSG("Button::Button Button failed"); } SDL_FillRect(screen,&box,SDL_MapRGB ( ButtonSurface->format, R, G, B )); //ut.ApplySurface(0,0,ButtonSurface,screen); SDL_BlitSurface(ButtonSurface,NULL,screen,&box); } what im doing here wrong ?

Determine if all the digits of the sum of n -numbers and swapped n are odd. For example: 36 + 63 = 99, y 409 + 904 = 1313. Visual Studio builds my code, there is still something wrong with it ( it doesnt return an answer) can you please help me here? using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace ConsoleApplication1 { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { long num = Convert.ToInt64(Console.Read()); long vol = voltea(num); long sum = num + vol; bool simp = simpares(sum); if (simp == true) Console.Write("Si"); else Console.Write("No"); } static private bool simpares(long x) { bool s = false; long [] arreglo = new long [1000]; while ( x > 0) { arreglo [x % 10] ++; x /=10; } for (long i=0 ; i <= arreglo.Length ; i++) { if (arreglo [i]%2 != 0) s = true; } return s; } static private long voltea(long x) { long v = 0; while (v > 0) { v = 10 * v + x % 10; x /= 10; } return v; } } }

• PHP Arrays: Pop an array of single-element arrays into one array.

- by Rob Drimmie
Using a proprietary framework, I am frequently finding myself in the situation where I get a resultset from the database in the following format: array(5) { [0] => array(1) { ["id"] => int(241) } [1] => array(1) { ["id"] => int(2) } [2] => array(1) { ["id"] => int(81) } [3] => array(1) { ["id"] => int(560) } [4] => array(1) { ["id"] => int(10) } } I'd much rather have a single array of ids, such as: array(5) { [0] => int(241) [1] => int(2) [2] => int(81) [3] => int(560) [4] => int(10) } To get there, I frequently find myself writing: $justIds = array(); foreach( $allIds as $id ) { $justIds[] = $id["id"]; } Is there a more efficient way to do this?

• "Undefined reference to"

- by user1332364
I know that there are a lot of questions somewhat related to this one, but they answers are a bit hard for me to make sense of. I'm receiving the following error for a few different lines of code: C:\Users\Jeff\AppData\Local\Temp\ccAixtmT.o:football.cpp:(.text+0x6f0): undefined reference to `Player::set_values(int, std::string, float)' From these blocks of code: class Player { int playerNum; string playerPos; float playerRank; public: void set_values(int, string, float); float get_rank(){ return playerRank; }; bool operator == (const Player &p1/*, const Player &p2*/) const { if(&p1.playerNum == &playerNum && &p1.playerPos == &playerPos && &p1.playerRank == &playerRank) return true; else return false; }; }; And this being the main function referencing the subclass: int main() { ifstream infile; infile.open ("input.txt", ifstream::in); int numTeams; string command; while(!infile.fail() && !infile.eof()){ infile >> numTeams; string name; Player p; int playNum; string playPos; float playRank; Player all[11]; float ranks[11]; Team allTeams[numTeams]; for(int i=0; i<numTeams; i++){ infile >> name; for(int j=0; j<11; j++){ infile >> playNum; infile >> playPos; infile >> playRank; if(playPos == "QB") p.set_values(playNum, playPos, (playRank*2.0)); else if(playPos == "RB") p.set_values(playNum, playPos, (playRank*1.5)); else if(playPos == "WR") p.set_values(playNum, playPos, (playRank/1.8)); else if(playPos == "TE") p.set_values(playNum, playPos, (playRank*1.1)); else if(playPos == "GD") p.set_values(playNum, playPos, (playRank/2.0)); else if(playPos == "TC") p.set_values(playNum, playPos, (playRank/2.2)); else if(playPos == "CR") p.set_values(playNum, playPos, (playRank/1.2)); all[j] = p; allTeams[i].set_values(all, name); } } infile >> command; if (command == "play"){ int t1; int t2; infile >> t1; infile >> t2; play(allTeams[t1], allTeams[t2]); } else { int t1; int p1; int t2; int p2; swap(allTeams[t1], allTeams[t1].get_player(p1), allTeams[t2], allTeams[t2].get_player(p2)); } } }
