  • Use of Distinct with list of Custom Object

    - by Burnzy
    How can I make the Distinct() method work with a list of custom object(Href in this case), here is what the current object looks like: public class Href : IComparable, IComparer<Href> { public Uri URL { get; set; } public UrlType URLType { get; set; } public Href(Uri url, UrlType urltype) { URL = url; URLType = urltype; } #region IComparable Members public int CompareTo( object obj ) { if(obj is Href) { return URL.ToString().CompareTo( ( obj as Href ).URL.ToString() ); } else throw new ArgumentException("Wrong data type."); } #endregion #region IComparer<Href> Members int IComparer<Href>.Compare( Href x , Href y ) { return string.Compare( x.URL.ToString() , y.URL.ToString() ); } #endregion }

  • Fetching data (responsebody) with a HttpClient in an AsyncTask and returning the data outside the As

    - by Peter Warbo
    Basically I'm wondering how I'm able to do what I've written in the topic. I've looked through many tutorials on AsyncTask but I can't get it to work. I have a little form (EditText) that will take what the user inputs there and make it to a url query for the application to lookup and then display the results. What I think would seem to work is something like this: In my main activity i have a string called responseBody. Then the user clicks on the search button it will go to my search function and from there call the GrabUrl method with the url which will start the asyncdata and when that process is finished the onPostExecute method will use the function activity.this.setResponseBody(content). This is what my code looks like simpliefied with the most important parts (I think). public class activity extends Activity { private String responseBody; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); initControls(); } public void initControls() { fieldSearch = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.EditText01); buttonSearch = (Button)findViewById(R.id.Button01); buttonSearch.setOnClickListener(new Button.OnClickListener() { public void onClick (View v){ search(); }}); } public void grabURL(String url) { new GrabURL().execute(url); } private class GrabURL extends AsyncTask<String, Void, String> { private final HttpClient client = new DefaultHttpClient(); private String content; private boolean error = false; private ProgressDialog dialog = new ProgressDialog(activity.this); protected void onPreExecute() { dialog.setMessage("Getting your data... Please wait..."); dialog.show(); } protected String doInBackground(String... urls) { try { HttpGet httpget = new HttpGet(urls[0]); ResponseHandler<String> responseHandler = new BasicResponseHandler(); content = client.execute(httpget, responseHandler); } catch (ClientProtocolException e) { error = true; cancel(true); } catch (IOException e) { error = true; cancel(true); } return content; } protected void onPostExecute(String content) { dialog.dismiss(); if (error) { Toast toast = Toast.makeText(activity.this, getString(R.string.offline), Toast.LENGTH_LONG); toast.setGravity(Gravity.TOP, 0, 75); toast.show(); } else { activity.this.setResponseBody(content); } } } public void search() { String query = fieldSearch.getText().toString(); String url = "http://example.com/example.php?query=" + query; //this is just an example url, I have a "real" url in my application but for privacy reasons I've replaced it grabURL(url); // the method that will start the asynctask processData(responseBody); // process the responseBody and display stuff on the ui-thread with the data that I would like to get from the asyntask but doesn't obviously }

  • How do I copy a JavaScript object into another object?

    - by Josh K
    Say I want to start with a blank JavaScript object: me = {}; And then I have an array: me_arr = new Array(); me_arr['name'] = "Josh K"; me_arr['firstname'] = "Josh"; Now I want to throw that array into the object so I can use me.name to return Josh K. I tried: for(var i in me_arr) { me.i = me_arr[i]; } But this didn't have the desired result. Is this possible? My main goal is to wrap this array in a JavaScript object so I can pass it to a PHP script (via AJAX or whatever) as JSON.

  • Proper way to return an array

    - by Ward
    Hey there, I never seem to get this right. I've got a method that returns a mutable array. What is the proper way to return the array and avoid potential memory leaks? If I plan to store the results locally inside another view controller, does that affect the way the array should be returned? Lastly, what if it's just an non-mutable array? Does that require a different technique? thanks, Howie

  • How to sort linq result by most similarity/equality

    - by aNui
    I want to do a search for Music instruments which has its informations Name, Category and Origin as I asked in my post. But now I want to sort/group the result by similarity/equality to the keyword such as. If I have the list { Drum, Grand Piano, Guitar, Guitarrón, Harp, Piano} << sorted by name and if I queried "p" the result should be { Piano, Grand Piano, Harp } but it shows Harp first because of the source list's sequence and if I add {Grand Piano} to the list and query "piano" the result shoud be like { Piano, Grand Piano } or query "guitar" it should be { Guitar, Guitarrón } here's my code static IEnumerable<MInstrument> InstrumentsSearch(IEnumerable<MInstrument> InstrumentsList, string query, MInstrument.Category[] SelectedCategories, MInstrument.Origin[] SelectedOrigins) { var result = InstrumentsList .Where(item => SelectedCategories.Contains(item.category)) .Where(item => SelectedOrigins.Contains(item.origin)) .Where(item => { if ( (" " + item.Name.ToLower()).Contains(" " + query.ToLower()) || item.Name.IndexOf(query) != -1 ) { return true; } return false; } ) .Take(30); return result.ToList<MInstrument>(); } Or the result may be like my old self-invented algorithm that I called "by order of occurence", that is just OK to me. And the further things to do is I need to search the Name, Category or Origin such as. If i type "Italy" it should found Piano or something from Italy. Or if I type "string" it should found Guitar. Is there any way to do those things, please tell me. Thanks in advance.

  • COM IUnknown and do I need a pointer to it first before calling CoGetClassObject?

    - by Tony
    In COM, when you want to create an instance of some COM Server object, do you first need to get a pointer to it's IUnknown interface and only then create a class object using CoGetClassObject? As far as I understand it, IUnknown is used to manage object lifetimes, so from my understanding, whatever object the client wants to create, one needs a pointer to it's IUnknown interface implementation first. Sound correct? If not, can anyone tell me how it works?

  • WCF- "The underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedly"

    - by SumGuy
    Hi there. I'm recieving that wonderfuly ambiguous error message when using one of my webmethods on my WCF webservice. As that error message doesn't provide any explanation whatsoever allow me to post my theory. I believe it may have something to do with the return type I'm using I have a Types DLL which is refrenced in both the webservice and the client. In this DLL is the base class ExceptionMessages. There is a child of this class called DrawingExcepions. Here is some code: public class ExceptionMessages { public object[] ReturnValue { get; set; } } public class DrawingExceptions : ExceptionMessages { private List<DrawingException> des = new List<DrawingException>(); } public class DrawingException { public Exception ExceptionMsg { get; set; } public List<object> Errors { get; set; } } The using code: [OperationContract] ExceptionMessages createNewBom(Bom bom, DrawingFiles dfs); public ExceptionMessages createNewBOM(Bom bom, DrawingFiles dfs) { return insertAssembly(bom, dfs); } public DrawingExceptions insertAssembly(Bom bom, DrawingFiles dfs) { DrawingExceptions des = new DrawingExceptions(); foreach (DrawingFile d in dfs.drawingFiles) { DrawingException temp = insertNewDrawing(bom, d); if (temp != null) des.addDrawingException(temp); if (d.Child != null) des.addDrawingException(insertAssembly(bom, d.Child)); } return des; } Returns to: ExceptionMessages ems = client.createNewBom(bom, currentDFS); if (ems is DrawingExceptions) { } Basically the return type from the webmethod is ExceptionMessages however I would usually be sending the child class back instead. My only idea is that it's the child that's causing the error but as far as I've read, this should have no effect. Has anyone got any ideas what could be going wrong here? If any more info is required, just ask :) Thanks.

  • Why not allow mutation of the this binding?

    - by gnucom
    Hi Everyone, I'm building a interpreter/compiler for a school project (well now its turning into a hobby project) and an instructor warned me not to allow mutation of the 'this' binding (he said it was gross and made a huge deal about it) but I never learned why this is so... dangerous or bad. I'm very curious about why this is so bad. I figured this sort of feature could be useful in some way or another. I'm wondering if anyone familiar with building languages can tell me what sort of problems mutation on the 'this' binding can cause, and if they know of any cool or useful tricks that one could do if it actually was allowed. Do any languages that you're aware of allow mutation of 'this'? Thanks,

  • return from a linq where statement

    - by Vaccano
    I have the following link function MyLinqToSQLTable.Where(x => x.objectID == paramObjectID).ToList(); I most of the time you can change a linq call to be several lines by adding curly brackets around the method body. Like this: MyLinqToSQLTable.Where(x => { x.objectID == paramObjectID; }).ToList(); Problem is the implied return that was there when I just did a Boolean compare is now not done. Return (x.objectID == paramObjectID); is not accepted either. How do do this? can I do this? NOTE: I know that I can add another where clause if needed. But I would still like to know the answer to this.

  • Linq Query to Update Nested Array Items?

    - by Brett
    I have an object structure generated from xsd.exe. Roughly, it consists of 3 nested arrays: protocols, sources and reports. The xml looks like this: <protocols> <protocol> <source> <report /> <report /> </source> <source> <report /> <report /> </source> </protocol> <!-- more protocols --> </protocols> I need to update a single "Report" within the data structure. A brute force algorithm is shown below. I know that this could be done using XDocument and Linq, but I'd prefer to update the data structure and then serialize the structure back to disk. Thoughts? Brett bool updated = false; foreach (ProtocolsProtocol protocol in protocols.Protocol) { if (updated) break; foreach (ProtocolsProtocolSource source in protocol.Source) { if (updated) break; for (int i = 0; i < source.Report.Length; i++) { ProtocolsProtocolSourceReport currentReport = source.Report[i]; if (currentReport.Id == report.Id) { currentReport.Attribute1 = report.Attribute1; currentReport.Attribute2 = report.Attribute2; updated = true; break; } } } }

  • LINQ OrderBy: best search results at top of results list

    - by p.campbell

FirstName LastName ---------- --------- Foo Laurie Bar Jackson Jackson Bro Laurie Foo Jackson Laurie string[] searchTerms = new string[] {"Jackson", "Laurie"}; //want to find those customers with first, last or BOTH names in the searchTerms var matchingCusts = Customers .Where(m => searchTerms.Contains(m.FirstName) || searchTerms.Contains(m.LastName)) .ToList(); /* Want to sort for those results with BOTH FirstName and LastName matching in the search terms. Those that match on both First and Last should be at the top of the results, the rest who match on one property should be below. */ return matchingCusts.OrderBy(m=>m); Desired Sort: Jackson Laurie (matches on both properties) Foo Laurie Bar Jackson Jackson Bro Laurie Foo How can I achieve this desired functionality with LINQ and OrderBy / OrderByDescending?

  • Javascript Object/Array population question

    - by gnomixa
    Is there a difference between: var samples = { "TB10152254-001": { folderno: "TB10152254", ordno: "001", startfootage: "", endfootage: "", tagout: "Y" }, "TB10152254-002": { folderno: "TB10152254", ordno: "002", startfootage: "", endfootage: "", tagout: "Y" }, "TB10152254-003": { folderno: "TB10152254", ordno: "003", startfootage: "", endfootage: "", tagout: "Y" } }; AND var samples = new Array(); samples["TB10152254-001"] = { folderno: "TB10152254", ordno: "001", startfootage: "", endfootage: "", tagout: "Y"}; samples["TB10152254-002"] = { folderno: "TB10152254", ordno: "002", startfootage: "", endfootage: "", tagout: "Y" }; samples["TB10152254-003"] = { folderno: "TB10152254", ordno: "003", startfootage: "", endfootage: "", tagout: "Y" }; EDIT: I will re-phrase the question: How do I populate the hash dynamically? I can't do something like samples.TB10152254-003 because i TB10152254-003 is dynamic...so, is that even possible?

  • LINQ - is SkipWhile broken?

    - by Judah Himango
    I'm a bit surprised to find the results of the following code, where I simply want to remove all 3s from a sequence of ints: var sequence = new [] { 1, 1, 2, 3 }; var result = sequence.SkipWhile(i => i == 3); // Oh noes! Returns { 1, 1, 2, 3 } Why isn't 3 skipped? My next thought was, OK, the Except operator will do the trick: var sequence = new [] { 1, 1, 2, 3 }; var result = sequence.Except(i => i == 3); // Oh noes! Returns { 1, 2 } In summary, Except removes the 3, but also removes non-distinct elements. Grr. SkipWhile doesn't skip the last element, even if it matches the condition. Grr. Can someone explain why SkipWhile doesn't skip the last element? And can anyone suggest what LINQ operator I can use to remove the '3' from the sequence above?

  • Zipping Rx IObservable with infinite number set

    - by Toni Kielo
    I have a IObservable [named rows in the sample below] from Reactive extensions framework and I want to add index numbers to each object it observes. I've tried to implement this using Zip function: rows.Zip(Enumerable.Range(1, int.MaxValue), (row, index) => new { Row = row, Index = index }) .Subscribe(a => ProcessRow(a.Row, a.Index), () => Completed()); .. but unfortunately this throws ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: disposables Am I understanding the Zip function wrong or is there a problem with my code? The Range part of the code doesn't seem to be the problem and the IObservable isn't yet receiving any events.

  • Return data from subroutine while the subroutine is still processing

    - by Perl QuestionAsker
    Is there any way to have a subroutine send data back while still processing? For instance (this example used simply to illustrate) - a subroutine reads a file. While it is reading through the file, if some condition is met, then "return" that line and keep processing. I know there are those that will answer - why would you want to do that? and why don't you just ...?, but I really would like to know if this is possible. Thank you so much in advance.

  • Dynamic LINQ OrderBy

    - by John Sheehan
    I found an example in the VS2008 Examples for Dynamic LINQ that allows you to use a sql-like string (e.g. OrderBy("Name, Age DESC")) for ordering. Unfortunately, the method included only works on IQueryable<T>. Is there any way to get this functionality on IEnumerable<T>?

  • How to handle HTML Strings in Cocoa Touch

    - by balexandre
    I'm using a RSS Reader and works fine when I tap the UITableViewCell to load the <link> either in a UIWebView or to open Safari on that link. But I really want to learn how to load the Topic content into the application instead showing the entire site or jump to Safari In the RSS feed per each <item> there is a <body> tag (and a <Description> that contains the same but encoded) that contains the topic content, like the image below shows: So, instead of catching the <link> I'm assigning the <body>. Problem is that it does not work correctly :-( for this example I only get the content until the first <br> nothing more. I'm using a NSString as I would use in C#, should I use any other object, is there a better object to use on such data? Should I use an UITextView to load this information (as it has scroll already) or I should use a UIWebView instead? Thank you.

  • Filter a LINQ query

    - by Jack Marchetti
    Here's my query. var query = from g in dc.Group join gm in dc.GroupMembers on g.ID equals gm.GroupID where gm.UserID == UserID select new { id = g.ID, name = g.Name, pools = (from pool in g.Pool // more stuff to populate pools So I have to perform some filtering, but when I attempt to filter var filter = query.Where(f => f.pools.[no access to list of columns] I can't access any of the items within "pools". Does anyone know how I'm able to access that? What I'd like to do is this: var filterbyGame = query.Where(f = > f.pools.GameName == "TestGame"); Let me know if that's even possible with thew ay I have this setup. Thanks guys.

  • How to do a STAR search in LINQ

    - by aNui
    I'm not sure about clarity of the STAR word. I'm implementing a search method using linq-to-object in c#. And I want to do a search with * (star) operator like most of search apps or web can do. e.g. If I typed "p*", results should be everything starting with "p". And it should work for prefix star, suffix star or star in the middle. And it would be great if the search can do with "-" (minus/NOT) operator or "+" (plus/OR) operator or "AND" operator Thanks in advance.

  • Linq Where Clauses - Better to stack or combine?

    - by burnt_hand
    When writing a method chain for LINQ, I can do the Where statements one of two ways: var blackOldCats = cats.Where(cat => cat.Age > 7 && cat.Colour == "noir" ) Or var blackOldCats = cats.Where(cat => cat.Age > 7).Where(cat.Colour == "noir" ) Are there any benefits of one over the other? Don't worry too much about the datatypes in this example, but if there are issues with datatypes, then that would be good to know too.
