  • Tools to (privately) annotate/markup a website for maintenance

    I've been tasked with updating a website. Rather than proofreading and updating each page (one at a time), I want to make a single pass over the entire website, marking graphics/images/videos that need to be rewritten, removed, or updated. I thought about taking screenshots, marking those up, and putting them in our bug-tracking database, but that seems like an extremely tedious solution. Some of the content is similar on various pages across the website, and the entire site itself is localized into several languages (so any changes made to the English version will have corresponding changes for other languages). I also want all of my markup to remain private (that is, if it's stored online somewhere, I should be the only person who can see my comments). I found an article that lists several website annotation services, but it's not clear whether they allow private annotations, or whether these tools are even appropriate for website maintenance (many of them look more geared toward social networking). I've started making a list of some necessary and desired features below, and may add more as necessary. Annotations/markup/comments remain private (only visible to me) Comment history/tagging (so I can reuse the same comment for shared footers, items requiring similar updates, etc.) Ability to print/export a list or report of all comments for the entire website Ability to produce a categorized list of changes (e.g., to produce a list of images that need updating, which I can send to the graphic designer) What processes and tools do you use to keep track of all the changes that need to be made to a website? What features are painfully absent from the tools you use?

    I have a conceptual problem and I would like to get your ideas on how I'll be able to do what I am aiming. My goal is to create a database with information of persons who work at a place depending on their profession and skills,and keep control of salary and projects (how much would cost summing all the hours of work) I have 3 categories which can have subcategories: Outsourcing Technician welder turner assistant Administrative supervisor manager So each person has its information and the projects they are working on, also one person may do several jobs...   • apache htaccess rewrite rules make redirection loop

    Hi guys, Have a very strange problem with Apache .htaccess URL Rewriting and Redirection. Here's my setup: I have a zend application with a single point of entry (index.php) directly under my apache document root (call this the "public" folder). I also have all other public files (images, js, css, etc.) under the public folder. Here, I also have a wordpress blog under the "blog" folder. There's an empty test folder too The Problem When I go to mydomain.com/blog, I get redirected to http://www.theredpin.com/blog (correctly), then to http://www.theredpin.com/blog/ (just with an extra / at end), finally to http://theredpin.com/blog/ -- and we're back where we started. The loop continues. What I don't understand is why would wordpress try to remove the www? I'm guessing it's wordpress because my empty test folder acts just fine! PLEASE HELP. I"M REALLY DESPERATE :( Thank you very much Other things that happen: When I go to mydomain.com, i correctly get redirected to www.mydomain.com When I go to www.mydomain.com, i correctly stay where I am When I go to www.mydomain.com/test or mydomain.com/test, behaviour is correct. Setup So my .htaccess file does the following: If there's no www., then add it and do a 301 redirect.     Hello everybody. On my wordpress website one little thing doesn't work. Sometimes the Webserver adds the port number 16080 in the URL, which leads to an error (network timeout). Wrong: http://www.example.com:16080/about-us/weekly-program/?month=may&yr=2010 Correct: http://www.example.com/about-us/weekly-program/?month=may&yr=2010 Has someone a "Server port 16080 problem fix"? Is it possible, that I need to add a ServerName directive to the config file to tell the domain name of the server? Cheers Juri !!!update!!!   • C# XMLRPC Multi Threaded newPost something is not right

    I recently decided to get my feet wet with c# multi threading and my progress was good until now. My program uses XML-RPC to create new posts on wordpress. When I run my app on the localhost everything works fine and i successfully able to create new posts on wordpress using a multi threaded approach. However when I try to do the same with a wordpress installed on a remote server , new posts won't appear, so when i go to see all posts, the total number of posts remains unchanged. Another thing to note is the function that creates a new post does return the ID of a supposedly created posts. But as I mentioned previously the new posts are not visible when I try to access them in admin menu. Since I'm new to the multithreading I was hoping some of you guys can help me and check if I'm doing anything wrong.   • My PHP code is commented out

    Before everything happened, I was running this wordpress install for developing themes using xampp. But I decided to upgrade the memory of this machine from 2GB to 6GB since I need extra room for applications. I back-up my code in a separate partition by copying them. Since I have a 32bit OS at the time, I format the computer and installed a 64bit version. All is well and fine the OS side. When I setup my web dev environment something goes wrong. When I imported my htdocs back, first by just fully copying them to a new fresh install of xampp and notice that all of the codes that put are not working. My CI code is displaying my PHP code in the browser. My theme in wordpress is also commenting out my PHP code when I view the source. The themes included in my fresh wordpress install works so there's something I am missing here. From the looks of it, the php is being executed properly since anything that I install works. Just that the ones that came from a previous xampp is not.

  • Jquery failure after site went live

    I have been designing a site for weeks using JQuery. I don't have a local server or a testing server so I just created a directory through FTP, '/testing'. Everything was working great in the testing directory. I attempted to go live tonight by moving all the files in '/testing' to the root directory and I changed all file paths and script sources accordingly. The site loads, but everything related to JQuery is non-functional. Javascript console gives errors of (just as an example from a plugin): '$.os.name' is not a function I'm at loss for what to do. I changed the paths referencing the JQuery library, installed a fresh copy of JQuery (to a new directory), etc. There is a wordpress installation in a different directory '/blog'. I've read about some compatibility issues with wordpress, but that seems to be related to using JQuery inside wordpress, which I am not. I'm not sure if any code would be beneficial since it was all functional in a different directory. Your help is greatly appreciated.

  • Example usage of AX in PHP OpenID

    I'm using JanRain's PHP OpenID library. It comes with example script which is using SReg extension. But I want it to work with Google (and it works for auth actually), but Google uses AX (attribute exchange) instead of SReg for additional data. For some reason, JanRain's library is missing AX support in example script, and code comments in AX script are out of my understanding, though comments in SReg script are clear as 1-2-3. Does anyone know how to implement AX without too much pain?

    I am implementing a Like button from Facebook per this document: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like I am using the XFBML version so that users can add comments when they click on the Like button. I have imported the Facebook JavaScript SDK an am using a valid App ID. The button appears and I am able to "Like" the page, but I am never prompted for comments. Is anybody else running into these issues? Anybody know of a fix?

    I'm making a web application that uses the data in the sys.dm_fts_index_keywords_by_document. I'm interested how many times a given term occurs in each string that is indexed. For example, I have a table with a column called comments, the table has various strings in the comments field. When I make that column full text searchable, the dm_fts_index_keywords_by_document is created and I can see the word per document data. Can i do the same thing in mySQL?

    For some unknown reason I'm running into a problem when passing a variable to a full text search stored procedure performs many times slower than executing the same statement with a constant value. Any idea why and how can that be avoided? This executes very fast: SELECT * FROM table WHERE CONTAINS (comments, '123') This executes very slowly and times out: DECLARE @SearchTerm nvarchar(30) SET @SearchTerm = '123' SET @SearchTerm = '"' + @SearchTerm + '"' SELECT * FROM table WHERE CONTAINS (comments, @SearchTerm) Does this make any sense???

  • Why isn't JML implemented as Annotations in Java?

    Contrary to Code Contracts in C#, in JML Code Contracts are just text that's used in the form of comments in the header of a method. Wouldn't it be better to have them exposed as Annotations, then? That way even when compiling the information would persist on the .class's metadata, contrary to comments, that get erased. Am I missing something? Thanks

    I'm using Flex's Advanced Datagrid for a project and need inline comments, in a similar style to Excel spreadsheet comments. A little visual indicator should indicate if a field is associated with a comment, and on clicking on the element should open or trigger an action for displaying that particular comment. Any suggestions on how I would go about implementing this?
