  I setup Postfix and Dovecot on a new Ubuntu box following these directions. From a client machine, I validate that POP3 seems to be working telnet mydomain.com 110 +OK Dovecot ready. USER [email protected] +OK PASS mypassword +OK Logged in. quit +OK Logging out. However, when trying to configure Gmail on the same client to retrieve email via POP3, I get the error Server denied POP3 access for the given username and password. Server returned error: "Login failed." I carefully confirmed that Gmail is configured to use the same POP Server, Port, Username and Password I used when checking the connection with telnet. What could be causing Gmail to get a "Login failed" message?

• Is it possible to use WebMatrix with pure IIS?

  I'd like to check out WebMatrix for publishing our site to IIS automatically (right now, I have to zip it up, copy it out, Remote Desktop into the server, unzip it, etc). However, every example I can find on how to setup WebMatrix involves Azure, or using a .publishsettings file that you'd get from your hosting provider. I'm curious if I can publish to a normal, every day IIS server running on Windows Server 2008. So far, all I've done to the IIS server is install Web Deploy, which I believe is the protocol that WebMatrix uses to publish. When I enter the Remote Site Settings screen, I select Enter settings. I select Web Deploy as the protocol, type in my NT domain credentials (I'm an Admin on that server). I put in the site URL for the Site Name and Destination URL. When I click Validate Connection, I get: Am I doing something wrong, or is this just not possible to do?

• how do I setup Apache's Content-Encoding Header?

  When attempting to validate my site with the W3C validator, it returns the error, "Don't know how to decode Content-Encoding 'none'". Firebug confirms that my server is sending the header, "Content-Encoding: none". But I can't find any directive in apache2.conf or in my vhost that sets the Content-Encoding header. Where does the directive go, and what should it be set to? UPDATE: On further examination it seems something is wrong with mod_deflate (gzip). It's zipping my css files just fine, but is not zipping the html generated by my php scripts. I have: AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/xml text/css And the pages are showing a mime type of: "text/html". But content encoding is "none" and they aren't zipping. Perhaps these issues are related?

• Programatically Determine Exchange Attachment Limit

  Is there any way to query the exchange server to determine the maximum attachment file size? I'd be doing this in ASP.NET/C#. I'd like to be able to validate the file they want to attach is not over the limit before the user attempts to send the file to the server as opposed to having the server send back an exception when it attempts to attach the file and it discovers the file is too large. I've also posted this question about this on stackoverflow.com as well - I figured a sysadmin for Exchange may have an answer as well as a developer. Hopefully I do not incur the wrath of the stackexchange gods.

• Intermediate SSL Certificates on Azure Websites

  I have successfully configured an Extended-Validation Certificate on an Azure Website following this article: http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/documentation/articles/web-sites-configure-ssl-certificate/ The main (non-technical) stakeholder of the web application went through great lengths to validate that our site is secure. He went to this site to check the validity of our SSL: http://www.whynopadlock.com/ The site throw the following error: `SSL verification issue (Possibly mis-matched URL or bad intermediate cert.). Details: ERROR: no certificate subject alternative name matches`` The certificate is installed using IP Based SSL instead of SNI. This is done this way because some site visitors still use Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP, which has no support for SNI and throws a security warning. Is my certificate correclty installed? I received three .CRT files from my SSL provider: PrimaryIntermediate.crt SecondaryIntermediate.crt EndCertificate.crt This is how I exported our certificate as a .PFX file to Azure: openssl pkcs12 -export -out myserver.pfx -inkey myserver.key -in myserver.crt

• Utility to listen on port (Windows 2003 Server)

  Hi, I need to validate some network connectivity from machine X to a Windows 2003 Server machine. To be able to do so I'm looking for a simple utility that I can run on the Windows 2003 server that will listen on a specified port. It does not have to do anything else. When it listens on the specified port I can do a telnet to that port from machine X and check if all firewalls are open. The Windows 2003 Server machine is already a production machine so I cannot install all kinds of stuff. At this stage we want to ensure that all network connectivity is in place before we do the installation of the 'real' application that will listen that port (don't want to wast time debugging network connectivity issues when we do the actual deployment of the new application. The utility should be a simple command line utility that does not require any installation. What utilities do you recommend? Thanks, Gero

  I tried to boot my pc using ubuntu 6.06 in the live cd mode but it refuses to boot. It throws the error Uncompressing Linux.. ok, booting from kernel [ 54.168828] ACPI Unable to load the System Descriptor Tables The live cd works perfectly okay in other computers. Out of curiosity, I also tried to boot using Slax live cd, It too threw some errors incomplete literal tree invalid compressed format (err=1) UDF-fs: No partition found (1) XFS: bade magic number XFS: SB validate failed Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(1,0) The slax errors are a bit worrying to me. Ideally I want to mimic what google is doing with "Persistent disks" https://developers.google.com/compute/docs/disks#snapshots I am hoping someone who knows more about FreeBSD can validate these ideas/questions: I have read that FreeBSD can take instant disk snapshots, therefore if our databases trigger a consistent state (Block all writes, and flush buffers to disk), I would assume I could take snapshots every hour without service interruption for more than a few seconds. Is this true? Is there a way to take snapshots and back them up offsite easily? Can this be done incrementally as to save how much disk space is actually used? If a rollback needed to be done, how long does this typically take? Is a rollback also instantaneous? Thanks!

• Possible to load entries into hosts.deny from text file?

  I have around 96 million IP addresses that I have collected and routinely validate to be VPN providers, proxies, etc. I want these blocked. Currently, I am including the list formatted like deny ip; in nginx and that works perfectly. I want to use this list on another server, but nginx isn't an option, and I don't trust apache to handle this without slowing down. Is there a way to load this list into hosts deny via some command like aclexec or something? Are there other alternatives like setting up a DNSBL or using hosts.deny in conjunction with one?

• Automate setup of constrained kerberos delegation in AD

  I have a web app that uses some backend servers (UNC, HTTP and SQL). To get this working I need to configure ServicePrincipalNames for the account running the IIS AppPool and then allow kerberos delegation to the backend services. I know how to configure this through the "Delegation" tab of the AD Users and Computers tool. However, the application is going to be deployed to a number of Active Directory environments. Configuring delegation manually has proved to be error prone and debugging the issues misconfiguration causes is time consuming. I'd like to create an installation script or program that can do this for me. Does anyone know how to script or programmatically set constrained delegation within AD? Failing that how can I script reading the allowed services for a user to validate that it has been setup correctly?

• Tool to automate basic connectivity testing

  After our vendors have setup a certain test environment, we need to go in to perform connectivity testing between PC to servers and also between servers. The problem is that we run a range of tests to telnet between 2 nodes on several ports and this is a manual and rather tedious process. Does anyone know of a small tool or script that I can take input on the range of ports to be test and will run an automated range of testing against those ports? • Does the ulkJSON library have limitations when dealing with base64 in Delphi 7?

  I'm working on a project that is using Delphi 7 to consume RESTful services. We are creating and decoding JSON with the ulkJSON library. Up to this point I've been able to successfully build and send JSON containing a base64 string that exceed 5,160kb. I can verify that the base64 is being received by the services and verify the integrity of the base64 once its there. In addition to sending, I can also receive and successfully decode JSON with a smaller (~ 256KB or less) base64. However I am experiencing some issues on the return trip when larger (~1,024KB+) base64 is involved for some reason. Following the debugger, I can go into the library, and see that the JSON string being passed is not considered to be JSON despite being in the format listed above. The only difference I can find between calls that work as expected and calls that do not work as expect appears to be the size of base64 being transmitted. Am I missing something completely obvious and should be shot for my code implementation (very possible)? Have I missed some notation regarding the limitations of the ulkJSON library? I am running Eclipse Gallileo Build id: 20100218-1602 on Windows 7 Ultimate I am running php 5.3.8 The Zend Extension Build and PHP Extension Build are both - API220090626,TS,VC9 Solutions Tried: I have verified that port 9000 is available for use, I have even tried other ports as a double check that ports was not the issue. That includes setting the ports in both the php.ini file and in the Eclipse development environment. • netbeans 6.8 php, xdebug, mamp - cannot establish a connection

  I'm having no luck whatsoever with debuggers either on Zend Studio or NetBeans. I cannot believe the difficulty I'm having with these IDE's. I've read all the prior questions on netbeans-xdebug problems. According to those answers, my configuration is correct. Nonetheless, when I try to run xdebug, NetBeans hangs. I cancel the connection and get the popup dialog: "There is no connection, blah blah blah..." Here's my php.ini [xdebug] ; Xdebug config for Mac OS X and NetBeans IDE zend_extension=/Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/xdebug.so xdebug.remote_enable=on xdebug.remote_handler=dbgp xdebug.remote_mode=req xdebug.remote_host=127.0.0.1 xdebug.remote_port=9000 xdebug.idekey=netbeans-xdebug In NetBeans preferences, my session ID = netbeans-xdebug. • Can't run MonoTouch App

  Hi guys, This is not a really Programming Question, but please bear with me as it's related to the IDE that we use to develop and I'm really Stuck! :( Every time I create a project (can be an empty project) I get the message above when pressing Run or Debug. I have no Web Servers running the Web Share is off, the Zend Server as well MAMP is Off, the app itself does nothing as it's a blank project and if I run it on the iPhone/iPad Simulator, the app just opens and closes automatically :-/ I'm all new to monoTouch, but I wonder, does anyone has this problem and know what should I do? • Enable PDO for PHP5 on CentOS5 where PHP is configured as '--disable-pdo'

  Hi I have been given access to a CentOS5 machine by my client for their new site which uses Zend Framework. phpinfo() states in Configure Command that PDO is disabled ('--disable-pdo'). How can enable it? Do I need to recompile PHP5 to enable it? I have tried adding 'extension=pdo.so' in php.ini and restarting Apache, but this didn't work. It would also be nice to understand what '--disable-pdo' actaully means, does it mean it's not compiled into PHP or does it mean its just not enabled? Thanks for your time

• OnSelectedIndexChange only fires on second click when using custom page validation script

  Okay.. this is hard to explain, so here it goes. I have an update panel which contains a number of controls. The update panel is triggered by the OnSelectedIndexChanged event of a dropdownlist called: ddlUSCitizenshipStatus. It works as expected when I selected a new item. However, if I leave ddlUSCitizenshipStatus with the default value, and then click "submit" button on the page, the requiredfieldvalidators say there is an error on ddlUSCitizenshipStatus (which it should, as I never selected a value). So I then choose a value, the error message goes away on ddlUSCitizenshipStatus, however the updatepanel does not refresh. I've debugged this locally and the OnSelectedIndexChanged event for ddlUSCitizenshipStatus does not fire. If I choose an item in the ddlUSCitizenshipStatus list a second time, the OnSelectedIndexChanged server event fires and the update panel refreshes and works as expected. The issue is, I have to select an item in ddlUSCitizenshipStatus twice, after failed validation, before the updatepanel it's sitting in updates. The submit button on the page looks like this: <asp:LinkButton ID="btnSubmitPage1" runat="server" CssClass="continueButton" OnClick="btnSubmitPage1_Click" CausesValidation="true" OnClientClick="javascript: return ValidatePage();" /> If I remove my custom OnClientClick script, making the submit button look like this: <asp:LinkButton ID="btnSubmitPage1" runat="server" CssClass="continueButton" OnClick="btnSubmitPage1_Click" CausesValidation="true" ValidationGroup="valGrpAdditionalInformation" /> The dropdownlist, update panel, and reguiredfieldvalidator all work as expected. However, I need to run that custom "ValidatePage()" script when the button is clicked. Below is what my ValidatePage script looks like. I've been troubleshooting this for more hours than I can count.... I hope someone is able to help me. • PHP CMS with independent framework.

  We currently use MySource Matrix CMS for large projects, Wordpress CMS for small projects and Zend Framework for bespoke applications... I'm not trying to confuse and compare a CMS to a framework, that has been done before :-) I want to identify a few CMSs for review that have foundations in strong (preferably independent) PHP frameworks. The only one I have looked at is SilverStripe CMS and Sapphire Framework. We have many clients that have a CMS for internet and/ or extranet and then various other bespoke applications that are then integrated via various means to look like they're in the CMS. I believe it will be more productive and beneficial to have a common framework between these branches so they can be natively merged. Hope this makes sense. PS. I have used custom assets in MySource Matrix and specific modules in other CMS but you feel you are working for the CMS not the application you are building.

  Hello - I mostly code in Visual Studio, I like it, but lately it's making me feel a little claustrophobic. On my MacBook Pro, I've set up PHP5 and MySQL (natively). With the built-in server on the mac, does this constitute a LAMP stack? Is Mac OSX considered a Linux Environment? I have VMWare Fusion 3, should I set up a Linux OS virtually in order to implement a LAMP stack? Should I just use CakePHP or Zend? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
