• Can you figure out the password hashing scheme?

  I have two passwords and two resulting hashes. I can't figure out how the hash is derived from the password. I don't know if salting is used. I don't know if the password is hashed as a integer value or as a string (possibly Unicode). Password: 6770 Hash: c12114b91a3841c143bbeb121693e80b Password: 9591 Hash: 25238d578b6a61c2c54bfe55742984c1 The hash length seems to suggest MD5. Anybody has any ideas what I could try? Note: This is not for hacking purposes. I'm trying to access a service through an API instead of it's desktop client, and I can't figure out how to compute the password hash. Currently instead of using my real password I'm sending directly the hash.

• ASP.net Literal or Page altering HTML string, causing formatting issues

  We have a service that generates a report (using word templates and a 3rd party library), and then returns a string in HTML. While this HTML isn't great - its formatted correctly in this string. We want this HTML to show up on a page - format intact. What we currently have done is set an ASP.net Literal's text element to this string. While this works, I have noticed that it has reformatted the HTML string slightly. For the most part, it looks like it generated a bunch of new CSS classes, and a new style element in the HTML. This HTML does not exist in the string thats being returned. I could filter all of this back out, but wonder if there is a better way. I assume that the Page itself is altering something. What is the best way to display this raw HTML back to the user? I can't directly use a Response.Write(string), because this page does have a few other controls on it.

I mean the method is called by multiple requesters And more then one requester may hit the second line at the same time while the cache is empty. So all of these requesters will retrieve the data and add to cache. The query takes 5-8 seconds. May a surrounding lock statement around this code prevent that action? (I know multiple queries will not cause error but i want to be sure running just one query.)

• C# timer getting fired before their interval time

  Hi, We're getting following problem while using system.threading.timer ( .net framework 2.0 ) from a Windows service. There are around 12 different timer objects.. Each timer has due time and interval. This is set correctly. It is observed that after 3 to 4 hours, the timers start signalling before their interval elapses. For example if the timer is supposed to signal at 4:59:59, it gets signalled at 4:59:52, 7 seconds earlier. Can someone tell me what is the cause for this behavior and what is the solution for that ?   Hi, I'm trying to automatically retrieve some email from my GMail account for further parsing, but I can't get my head around on how to do that. I've searched the internets and it suggested that I use PHP's imap functions, like this: $server = '{imap.gmail.com:993/ssl}'; $connection = imap_open($server, '[email protected]', 'password'); But using that code, I get: Warning: imap_open() [function.imap-open]: Couldn't open stream {imap.gmail.com:993/ssl} Any idea what I am doing wrong? Any server setting that might be preventing me from making a connection to GMail (I'm using a shared service)? Is the address even right? Has anyone ever managed to do something like this? I've found tons of examples on how to send email via GMail, but very little of retrieving. Any help is much appreciated.

• Refreshing an XML file through HTTPService in Flex

  I'm having a problem refreshing an xml file. I am bringing it in through an HTTP service component and putting it into a bindable array _cattArr, that I am using as the dataprovider for a grid. When someone adds an item to the datagrid, it saves to the same xml file. Then I close the window, reopen it and don't see the item that has been added. It is writing to the xml file, because when I restart the flex app, the item has been added, it's just not refreshing it. I have tried to resend the httpservice, but still no luck. What is the correct process for doing this?

  hey i have the following query: select * from table where table.DateUpdated >='2010-05-03 08:31:13:000' all the rows in the table being queried have the following DateUpdated: 2010-05-03 08:04:50.000 it returns all of the rows in the table - even though it should return none. I am pretty sure this is because of some crappy date/time regional thing. if i swap the date to be select * from table where table.DateUpdated >='2010-03-05 08:31:13:000' then it does as it should. How can i force everything to be using the same settings? this is doing my head in :) This is sql generated by NHIbernate from my WCF service if that matters. w://

• .net app won't run. When compiling on dest machine (same sources) it does work. Why?

  I have a service which needs to be deployed on a clients machine. The destination machine is 64bit. My dev machine is also 64 bit. The app is really simple, listens on a port and does some db things. It targets .net 3.5 When I deploy the Anycpu, the X64 or the X86 version, the thing won't install on the clients machine. I checked dependencywalker and it lists: devmgr.dll ieshims.dll wer.dll anyhow...I install visual studio 2008 on the clients machine... check out all the sources. I don't change a thing and compile. Copy the exe over to it's dest locations...and what do you know..it works. Dependencywalker still lists the same dependency problems. How can it be that the act of compiling it on this machine gives me a different exe?

• c# - pull records from database without timeout

  Hi folks, i have a sql query with multiple joins & it pulls data from a database for processing. This is supposed to be running on some scheduled basis. So day 1, it might pull 500, day 2 say 400. Now, if the service is stopped for some reason & the data not processed, then on day3 there could be as much as 1000 records to process. This is causing timeout on the sql query. How best to handle this situation without causing timeout & gradually reducing workload to process? TIA

I have added a custom property to the web part like so: [Personalizable(PersonalizationScope.Shared)] [WebBrowsable(true)] [Category("My Custom Properties")] [WebDisplayName("ServiceURL")] [WebDescription("The URL for the Wcf service")] public string ServiceURL { get; set; } Along with this web part, I've added a custom page that the web part will have a link to. I would like to reference the web part property from the custom page, but I don't know where these properties are stored. I've tried to access it using the code below, but both property collections don't have any properties stored. SPFeaturePropertyCollection spProperties = SPContext.Current.Site.Features[this.FeatureGuid].Properties; or SPFeaturePropertyCollection spProperties = SPContext.Current.Site.Features[this.FeatureGuid].Definition.Properties; My question is how can I get a reference to the web part property from other pages?

• Testing Java Classes with JMeter

  I'd like to test a Java Service Call. My first attempt was to use the "Java Request Sampler" The docu says This sampler lets you control a java class that implements the JavaSamplerClient interface. I'm not sure how to get the org.apache.jmeter.protocol.java.sampler.JavaSamplerClient Interface as there is no Maven Artifact nor provided binaries on the JMeter side. Just a JMeter Maven Plugin (which is not what I'm looking for). I could install the needed binaries in my local Maven Repository, I Just don't know where they are available. Wondering if anybody at all is using the "Java Request Sampler" ? P.S. Maybe I should try the JUnit Sampler

• where should I put the EF entity and data annotations in asp.net mvc + entity framework project

  So I have a DataEntity class generated by EntityFramework4 for my sqlexpress08 database. This data context is exposed via a WCF Data Service/Odata to silverlight and win forms clients. Should the data entities + edmx file (generated by EF4) go in a separate class library? The problem here then is I would specify data annotations for a few entities and then some of them would require specific MVC attributes (like CompareAttribute) so the class library would also reference mvc dlls. There also happen to be entity users which will be encapsulated or wrapped into an IIdentity in the website. So its pretty tied to the mvc website. Or Should it maybe go in a Base folder in the mvc project itself? Mostly the website is data driven around the database, like approve users, change global settings etc. The real business happens in the silverlight and win forms apps. Im using mvc3 rc2 with Razor. • Should I use Drupal or Kohana-type framework for a web "application"

  The debate is that I need a PHP Framework/Drupal with the flexibility to add custom features to a potentially large application (web and with an api). However, with a framework, like Kohana, I see myself tackling and re-inventing the wheel with the simple stuff like account management and cms stuff. Account management and quick data collection, like fast form creation, are tedious in Kohana but appear incredible simple in Drupal. On the other hand, based on my limited Drupal experience, I doubt building rapid custom "features" and allowing users to create "groups" and to manage their own roles within those groups is something Drupal can easily accomplish. To simplify, is Drupal capable of true Web Applications; where the application is a service and provides custom results to each user? Can it provide a dashboard-like interface for users to change their settings or preferences? Can it aggregate data from particular users to provide better results/info to others? If so, please point me to some knowledge :-)

I want to make a form - a set of questions with different answer types: some questions have a number of answers and you can check one of the answers using radiobutton, other questions you should answer using a textbox, some answers have a datetime type and you choose answer for them using a DatePicker and so on. I get all information about the questions and answer types from a WCF service. I want to make this form using making a dynamic xaml but i've naver made dynamic xaml and I don't know exactly how to make it. • Getting Raw XML From SOAPMessage in Java

  I've set up a SOAP WebServiceProvider in JAX-WS, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to get the raw XML from a SOAPMessage (or any Node) object. Here's a sample of the code I've got right now, and where I'm trying to grab the XML: @WebServiceProvider(wsdlLocation="SoapService.wsdl") @ServiceMode(value=Service.Mode.MESSAGE) public class SoapProvider implements Provider<SOAPMessage> { public SOAPMessage invoke(SOAPMessage msg) { // How do I get the raw XML here? } } Is there a simple way to get the XML of the original request?   In wiki article for REST it is indicated that if you use http://example.com/resources DELETE, that means you are deleting the entire collection. If you use http://example.com/resources/7HOU57Y DELETE, that means you are deleting that element. I am doing a WEBSITE, note NOT WEB SERVICE. I have a list that has 1 checkbox for each item on the list. Once i select multiple items for deletion, i will allow users to press a button called DELETE SELECTION. If user presses the button, a js dialog box will popup asking user to confirm the deletion. if user confirms, all the items are deleted. So how should i cater for deleting multiple items in a RESTFUL way? NOTE, currently for DELETE in a webpage, what i do is i use FORM tag with POST as action but include a _method with the value DELETE since this is what was indicated by others in SO on how to do RESTful delete for webpage.

• Where to open sessions in a Spring/Hibernate stack?

  I'm trying to figure out a good design for a Spring/Hibernate app. When creating such an app, it appears like there are a handful of major decisions. The first major decision seems to be where to put the session/transaction boundary. It seems like I have 3 major choices: as a filter before controllers are even invoked, immediately below the controllers at the service call level, and stuffed way below the business level in repository calls. It seems to me like the right call is the middle path, but I'm not sure. I don't want my transactions open too long, but at the same time, I don't want to constantly worry about detached objects and lazy loading in the business logic. Still, there are some downsides. For instance, it makes it hard for the business logic to make a remote call without holding up a transaction for a few seconds. I wonder if there's a better way?

• Is there a Cart/Catalog app out there that isnt a full site?

  Every solution i come across seems to be a complete store with far too many options and too much functionality. I can write my own cart to get the minimal functionality i need out of the frontend, im just trying to cut out the time writing a complex backend. What im really looking for is something that offers the backend functionality for a product catalog, order management, etc. while providing a smooth and consistent API to access the data for my completely custom frontend application. The frontend will be in PHP so the API would have to be native PHP or some kind of web service interface i can create my own php models around. It would need to run on a LAMP stack and would preferably be written in PHP, Python, or Ruby just in case i need to customize the backend (she curently has ZenCart and hates it - says its far too complicated and sophisticated for her needs). Does such a thing exist? Or what would be the next best thing?

• REST API for driving distance?

  Is there a service that will give me the driving distance between two addresses? Apparently Google Maps API requires you to display a map, which I don't want to do (on that particular page), and I'd like to just snag the data and save it to my DB after a user submits a form, rather than waiting for JS to do it's thing. If it's relevant, this is going into a Django app. I discovered that CloudMade offers a Python API, which is nice, except their latest dev release has a bug in it (can't use the API object), but more importantly, it's support for Canada is awful/worthless (couldn't find directions from any major city around here!).

• How do you run a uncompiled CGI?

  I'm going to get right to it. iPage shared hosting. Trying to use mimetex.cgi to render math. Source code is at the link. After preparing everything just as I had with a different shared host (which worked), I get errors. Tech support tells me I need to upload the uncompiled source and use that instead. ??? Rather than going with them just being ignorant and wrong, I'm going to assume I'm missing something. How am I supposed to execute and make use of the uncompiled source code? What the hell is wrong with a hosting service that doesn't support running compiled CGI written in C (as far as I can tell)?

• How to block the UI during asynchronous operations in WPF

  We have a WPF app (actually a VSTO WPF app). On certain controls there are multiple elements which, when clicked, load data from a web service and update the UI. Right now, we carry out these web requests synchronously, blocking the UI thread until the response comes back. This prevents the user clicking around the app while the data is loading, potentially putting it into an invalid state to handle the data when it is returned. Of course the app becomes unresponsive if the request takes a long time. Ideally, we'd like to have the cancel button active during this time, but nothing else. Is there a clever way of doing this, or will we have to switch the requests to execute asynchronously using backgroundworker and write something that disables all the controls apart from the cancel button while a request is in progress?
