  • graphic error on console

    I have Linux on an embedded system. There is no graphic system, but I still have graphic errors. For example, if I type: ifconfig eth2 hw ether 00:0e:8c:d0:59:d2 I see: ifconfig eth hw ether 00:0e:8:2:2 If I type Enter, it accepts the command I typed, so it's just a matter of displaying. Everything is fine, when I log in via SSH. Anyone any ideas, what could be the cause or where to look at? Although I was able to PPTP VPN in on 321.321.39.10 (interface) which is the outside interface IP address. and it is static mapped to 172.21.37.20. So I'm thinking there must be something wrong with NAT somewhere? no response from 321.321.39.11 to 321.321.39.14.. Could anyone look over the config and please let me know what I've done wrong? Is there something I've missed? well obviously but.. please help! Thank you.

  • rsync does't work

    I set up a new ec2 ubuntu server and I'm unable to use rsync to push a file up. I can ssh to the machine with my keypair. When mounted with mount it's not empty at all What am I missing ? I'm on Centos 6.3 64 bits

    I need a little help in developing a config for our ASA5505. I'm an MCSA/MCITPAS but I don't have a lot of practical cisco experience. Here is what I need help with, we currently have a PIX as our boarder gateway and well it's antiquated and it only has a 50 user license which means I'm constantly clearing local-host throughout the day as people complain. I discovered that the last IT person bought at couple ASA5505s and they've been sitting in the back of a cupboard. So far I've duplicated the configuration from the pix to the asa but as I was going to be going this far I thought I'd go further and remove another old cisco router that was used only for the guest network, I know the asa can do both jobs. So I'm going to paste a scenario I wrote up with the actual IPs changed to protect the innocent. ... Outside Network: 1.2.3.10 255.255.255.248 (we have a /29) Inside Network: 10.10.36.0 255.255.252.0 DMZ Network: 192.168.15.0 255.255.255.0 Outside Network on e0/0 DMZ Network on e0/1 Inside Network on e0/2-7 DMZ Network has DHCPD Enabled. DMZ DHCPD Pool is 192.168.15.50-192.168.15.250 DMZ Network needs to be able to see DNS on Inside Network at 10.10.37.11 and 10.10.37.12 DMZ Network needs to be able to access webmail on inside network at 10.10.37.15 DMZ Network needs to be able to access business website on inside network at 10.10.37.17 DMZ Network needs to be able to access the outside network (access to the internet). Inside Network has NO DHCPD. (dhcp is handled by domain controller) Inside Network needs to be able to see anything on the DMZ network.   • Server HTTP Load times slow?

    Hello, My server @ codemeh.com (HTTP Server) seems to be randomly loading slowly, I cannot tell if it just my forums (http://www.codemeh.com/forums/) that are loading slowly or if the WHOLE site is just loading slowly since my forums are the largest thing on the site right now. load average: 0.02, 0.17, 0.20 That is super low to my knowledge. I have tried Google Page Analytic plug-in for FireFox to solve the problem but nothing comes up that is VERY bad. If someone could investigate this for me since I am very new at apache and server configurations. Thanks!   • tar incremental backup is backing everything up, every time

    I made an incremental backup about 10 months ago (on Jan 27, 2013), creating a .snar metadata file. Now, when I try to make an incremental backup using tar --create --file=dropbox_incremental_1.tar --listed-incremental=dropbox_0.snar Dropbox the command just re-backs up everything. I'm not an expert at Unix timestamps, but I noticed that virtually all of my directory timestamps are way more recent than the last time they changed. For my actual files, they look like this: Access: 2013-03-12 19:04:51.000000000 -0500 Modify: 2012-09-30 15:10:47.000000000 -0500 Change: 2013-03-12 19:04:51.306209672 -0500 The 'Modify' timestamp seems correct, but the files were definitely not changed (at least not doing anything that I know of) at the time they say they were. These files still seem to go into the incremental archive. What's happening here? Is there a way to tell tar to look at the 'modify' timestamp? Isn't this what it's supposed to be doing?

  • What does the the reconstruction process of mdadm do exactly on raid10

    I've got a system with 4 disks set up as raid10. All disks are usable, and mdadm all states them with UUUU. Due to a recent system crash, the raid is currently reconstruction the raid as it was marked as "not clean," and a reconstruction process was started. Sense: Unrecovered read error - auto reallocate failed sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] CDB: Read(10): 28 00 24 cd 75 1e 00 04 00 00 With a research about the reconstruction process, I only found information concerning raid5 but nothing for raid10. Can I replace this problematic disk during the reconstruction process, or will I kill the raid with this?

I have the following in my .ssh/config Host aliasname Hostname 12.34.56.78 User username IdentityFile /path/to/cert.pem Then when I enter ssh aliasname it says: ssh: Could not resolve hostname aliasname: Name or service not known.     I wonder if anyone is able to help me with multiple tunnel hops for servers... basically my setup looks something like this... [desktop01]=====[server01]=====[server02]---------[machine01] \--------[machine02] \-------[machine03] \------[machine04] I want to setup some ssh tunnels so that from my desktop I can ssh directly to machine01 through 04 without having to ssh to each box in between in turn... So desktop01 can only see server01, server02 can only accept connections from server01 and machines 01 to 04 only accept connections from server02. Can anyone help as im really stuck with this. Consider raising the ThreadsPerChild setting We raised our ThreadsPerChild setting from 50 to 100, but we still get the error. Since the Apache server runs as a separate process and the database doesn't record any problems when this error occurs, I'm doubtful that Oracle is the problem. Unfortunately, the errors are freaking out our sysadmins, who are inclined to blame any and all problems which occur with the server on this error. Is this a known bug in Apache that I simply haven't been able to find any reference to through Google?

  • Calling Web Service Functions Asynchronously from a Web Page

    Over on the Asp.Net forums where I moderate, a user had a problem calling a Web Service from a web page asynchronously. I tried his code on my machine and was able to reproduce the problem. I was able to solve his problem, but only after taking the long scenic route through some of the more perplexing nuances of Web Services and Proxies. Here is the fascinating story of that journey. Start with a simple Web Service     public class Service1 : System.Web.Services.WebService    {        [WebMethod]        public string HelloWorld()        {            // sleep 10 seconds            System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(10 * 1000);            return "Hello World";        }    } The 10 second delay is added to make calling an asynchronous function more apparent. If you don't call the function asynchronously, it takes about 10 seconds for the page to be rendered back to the client. If the call is made from a Windows Forms application, the application freezes for about 10 seconds. Add the web service to a web site. Right-click the project and select "Add Web Reference…" Next, create a web page to call the Web Service. Note: An asp.net web page that calls an 'Async' method must have the Async property set to true in the page's header: <%@ Page Language="C#"          AutoEventWireup="true"          CodeFile="Default.aspx.cs"          Inherits="_Default"           Async='true'  %> Here is the code to create the Web Service proxy and connect the event handler. Rather than include the library it is part of, I included it in the source file to keep this example simple. Fire up the project, open up a debug output window, press the button and we get this in the debug output window: 11:29:37.94 Pre HelloWorldAsync... 11:29:37.94 Post HelloWorldAsync 11:29:48.94 EventHandler 11:29:48.94 Hello World   Sweet. The asynchronous call was made and returned immediately. About 10 seconds later, the event handler fires and we get the result. Perfect….right? Not so fast cowboy. Watch the browser during the call: What the heck? The page is waiting for 10 seconds. Even though the asynchronous call returned immediately, Asp.Net is waiting for the event to fire before it renders the page. This is NOT what we wanted. I experimented with several techniques to work around this issue. Some may erroneously describe my behavior as 'hacking' but, since no ingesting of Twinkies was involved, I do not believe hacking is the appropriate term. If you examine the proxy that was automatically created, you will find a synchronous call to HelloWorld along with an additional set of methods to make asynchronous calls. I tested it and the debug output window looked like this: 04:40:58.57 Pre BeginHelloWorld... 04:40:58.57 Post BeginHelloWorld 04:41:08.58 AsyncCallback 04:41:08.58 Hello World It works the same as before except for one critical difference: The page rendered immediately after the function call. I was worried the page object would be disposed after rendering the page but the system was smart enough to keep the page object in memory to handle the callback. Both techniques have a use: Delayed Render: Say you want to verify a credit card, look up shipping costs and confirm if an item is in stock. You could have three web service calls running in parallel and not render the page until all were finished. Nice. You can send information back to the client as part of the rendered page when all the services are finished. Immediate Render: Say you just want to start a service running and return to the client. You can do that too. However, the page gets sent to the client before the service has finished running so you will not be able to update parts of the page when the service finishes running. Summary: YourFunctionAsync() and an EventHandler will not render the page until the handler fires. BeginYourFunction() and a CallBack function will render the page as soon as possible. I found all this to be quite interesting and did a lot of searching and researching for documentation on this subject….but there isn't a lot out there. The biggest clues are the parameters that can be sent to the WSDL.exe program: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/7h3ystb6(VS.100).aspx Two parameters are oldAsync and newAsync. OldAsync will create the Begin/End functions; newAsync will create the Async/Event functions. Caveat: I haven't tried this but it was stated in this article. I'll leave confirming this as an exercise for the student J. Included Code: I'm including the complete test project I created to verify the findings. The project was created with VS 2008 SP1. There is a solution file with 3 projects, the 3 projects are: Web Service Asp.Net Application Windows Forms Application To decide which program runs, you right-click a project and select "Set as Startup Project". I created and played with the Windows Forms application to see if it would reveal any secrets. I found that in the Windows Forms application, the generated proxy did NOT include the Begin/Callback functions. Those functions are only generated for Asp.Net pages. Probably for the reasons discussed earlier. Maybe those Microsoft boys and girls know what they are doing. I hope someone finds this useful. Steve Wellens

    When trying to install ubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.iso from USB I get one of the following errors http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine_Check_Exception states the error can occur due to -poorly fitted heatsink/computer fans (the same problem can happen with excessive dust in the CPU fan) -an overloaded internal or external power supply (fixable by upgrading) So I tried the following -Using rubbing alcohol to remove all the thermal paste from the CPU and heatsink, I then reseated the CPU after checking all the pins on the MOBO, everything seems fine. -Boot without the GPU to see if was the PSU that is being over stressed. -Removing all RAM apart from one stick and running a Memtest86 which it passed -Using Ubuntu 10.04.4 Desktop 64 bit (Different USB slots and USB sticks) -Using Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop 64 bit (Different USB slots and USB sticks) -Reset the BIOS using the Clear CMOS jumper -Removing all HD power cables and SATA cables -Updating the BIOS from F2 to F6 My PC is using the following parts. -Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H (F6 BIOS) -Intel Core i7 3770K 3.5GHz Socket 1155 -G-Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.5V -Be Quiet Shadow Rock Pro -Be Quiet Pure Power 730W Modular PSU -Sapphire HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card Any ideas?

  • The internal storage of a DATETIME2 value

    Today I went for investigating the internal storage of DATETIME2 datatype. What I found out was that for a datetime2 value with precision 0 (seconds only), SQL Server need 6 bytes to represent the value, but stores 7 bytes. This is because SQL Server add one byte that holds the precision for the datetime2 value. What would have been fun, is datetime2(negative) just like round accepts a negative value. -1 would mean rounding to 10 second, -2 rounding to minute, -3 rounding to 10 minutes, -4 rounding to hour and finally -5 rounding to 10 hour. -5 is pretty useless, but if you extend this thinking to -6, -7 and so on, you could actually get a datetime2 value which is accurate to the month only. Well, enough ranting about this. Let's get back to the table above. If you add 75844 second to midnight, you get 21:04:04, which is exactly what you got in the select statement above. And if you look at it, it makes perfect sense that each following value is 10 times greater when the precision is increased one step too. //Peter
