• help('modules') crashing? Not sure how to fix..

  I was trying to install a module for opencv and added an opencv.pth file to the folder beyond my sites.py file. I have since deleted it and no change. • Best practices: displaying text that was input via multi-line text box

  I have a multi-line text box. When users simply type away, the text box wraps the text, and it's saved as a single line. It's also possible that users may enter line breaks, for example when entering a "bulleted" lists like: Here are some suggestions: - fix this - remove that - and another thing Now, the problem occurs when I try to display the value of this field. In order to preserve the formatting, I currently wrap the presentation in <pre> - this works to preserve user-supplied breaks, but when there's a lot of text saved as a single line, it displays the whole text block as single line, resulting in horizontal scrolling being needed to see everything. Is there a graceful way to handle both of these cases?

• ASP.Net layered communication

  Hi, We're developing a layered web application. The specs: 3 layers, data layer, business layer, ui layer. Programmed in C# Data Layer uses the entity framework Currently we plan on having the data layer return IEnumerable<T> to the business layer via linq 2 entities, and the business layer will return data to the ui layer. Since the ui layer has no knowledge of the existance of the data layer, how would it handle a result of IEnumerable passed to it from the BLL, where T is defined in the data layer? Are there any GOOD example out there on how to do this. Please note that I'm extremely new to factories / interfaces / abstraction to loosely couple layers. I saw the question here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/917457/passing-data-in-an-ntier-application and it was recommended to have the entity layer shared amongst all layers... however I do not want the other layers to be able to query the database.

The format below works, where I have a property in my class called "_myId": <TextBox Name="_myId" Text="{Binding (Textbox.Name)" /> I've tried using ^ and \ to escape the brackets. Is this syntax supported? I'm trying to avoid duplication of the name in two attributes.

• Correct CSS inheritance behavior for properties that aren't inherited?

  So say we you have a CSS property that is not inherited by default. We'll call it "foo" and its default value is "black". Then we make the following html. <div id="div1" style="foo: red;"> <div id="div2"> <div id="div3" style="foo: inherit;"> </div> </div> </div> Since this property does not inherit by default, you'd think that in div2, "foo" must be "black" - the default value because it does not inherit by default. But ... in div3 should the value for "foo" inherit "black" from its parent that did not inherit foo, or should it inherit "red" from its grandparent because its parent did not specify foo? I need to know because I'm trying to implement something exactly to the spec.

• Array Indexing Properties of A Class

  I have a class that has several properties: class Person { string Name; int Age; DateTime BirthDate; } Then I have a sort of wrapper class with a List<Person>. Within this wrapper class I want to be able to do something like Wrapper["Name"] that returns a new List<string> using .Select(x=>x.Name). How do I create a wrapper class around an IEnumerable that supports mapping a string to the Property name? Something like the pseudo code below, but obviously it doesn't work. I'm 99.9% sure the solution will have to use Reflection and thats fine. class Wrapper { List<Person> PersonList; List<dynamic> this[string Column] { return PersonList.Select(x => x.[Column]).ToList(); } } This may not seem like a good design, but its a fix to eventually enable the correct design from .NET 2.0 days. As I have it right now, the data is stored in Columns, so there is actually a List of Lists within my class right now. Using the above example there would be three ILists (with a string Title) Name, Age, and Birthdate. Everything is currently predicated on addressing the columns by their "string" name. I'm trying to convert the data structure to row based with an IEnumberable interface to allow Linq eventually while still maintaining the functionality of my current code. Is converting the code to a Row based IEnumberable a good idea?

  I'm looking to create a many to many relationship using NHibernate. I'm not sure how to map these in the XML files. I have not created the classes yet, but they will just be basic POCOs. Tables Person personId name Competency competencyId title Person_x_Competency personId competencyId Would I essentially create a List in each POCO for the other class? Then map those somehow using the NHibernate configuration files?

  I have a function that grabs an XML document and transforms it according to an XSL document. It then places the result into a div with the id laneconfigdisplay. What I want to do is, separate to the transformation logic, setup a jQuery change event for that div so I can tell when it has changed, and run some jQuery code. • How to design model for multi-tiered data?

  Say I have three types of object: Area, Subarea and Topic. I want to be able to display an Area, which is just a list of Subareas and the Topics contained in those Subareas. I never want to be able to display Subareas separately - they're just for breaking up the Topics. Topics can, however, appear in multiple Areas (but probably under the same Subarea). How would I design a model for this? I could use ForeignKey from Topic to Subarea and from Subarea to Area, but it seems unnecessarily complex given that I never want to interact with subareas themselves. Also, none of these objects are ever altered or added to by the user. They're just for me to represent information. Maybe there is a better way to represent it all?

• Ajax page.replace_html problems with partials in Rails

  Hello, I am having a problem with a pretty simple AJAX call in rails. I have a blog-style application and each post has a "like" feature. I want to be able to increment the "like" on each post in the index using AJAX onclick. I got it to work; however, the DOM is a bit tricky here, because no matter what partial its looking at, it will only update the TOP partial. so if I click "like" on post #2, it will update and replace the "likes" on post #1 instead. • Page Entirely Blank Despite Having Source Code! (TinyMCE, FireFox)

  Alright guys, here's a tough one... In reference to this page. The page will seemingly randomly not display the output of server when using Firefox (version 3.5). I have not seen this problem occur in Safari or IE. The best way to have the problem occur is just reload the page about 10 times and it ought to have happened by then, and once it does - it'll continue on subsequent refreshes until you change the page. The problem is literally the browser not displaying the output (code). Viewing the source shows all the appropriate code yet the browser displays a blank white page. The web developer and firebug plugins don't show any errors that would indicate the problem. I have tested this on a separate system and OS and it occurs in Firefox on that system as well. The problem did not occur until after TinyMCE (A Rich Text Editor JavaScript library for textareas) was added to the project. TinyMCE works however, where it should. I know this is a confusing problem, but I am completely lost as to what could be causing this significant issue. Thanks in advance. EDIT: If it's any help... I've noticed that if I cause a css file error by changing a stylesheet source to something non-existant (xxx.css), the page will continuously display without a problem (besides whatever related css not showing due to the src change). I've also noticed that causing any simple javascript error with some bad code will cause the page to load properly continuously (besides of course javascript not running on the page). EDIT#2: Moving all <script> tags down at the tail of the <body> 'fixes' (well, hides) this error and the page shows normally. A band-aid.

• How to remove words based on a word count

  Here is what I'm trying to accomplish. I have an object coming back from the database with a string description. This description can be up to 1000 characters long, but we only want to display a short view of this. So I coded up the following, but I'm having trouble in actually removing the number of words after the regular expression finds the total count of words. Does anyone have good way of dispalying the words which are less than the Regex.Matches? I need to search the file for all instances of a given device type, and count the number of non-blank lines following the occurrence, stopping at the first blank.   I'm programmatically registering a group of services that all implement the same interface, IRule.   I am trying to switch my space invaders game to a first person view, i.e. a view of the world from the ship. I am getting a bit confused about what point I should be looking at. I am currently using these parameters in gluLookAt: GL11.glMatrixMode(GL11.GL_MODELVIEW); GL11.glLoadIdentity(); GLU.gluLookAt(ship3dPos.x, ship3dPos.y, ship3dPos.z,400.0f, 600.0f,-50.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f,-0.0f); Where ship3dPos is a Vector3f. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to set parameters 4,5 and 6 to, to get a view of the whole world(window is 800/600). I want to have a view of say 100.0 wide from the ships perspective, with this view moving along the x-axis as the player moves the ship. Thanks

The problem I'm having is that the form will show when there is a record in the database and the fields will be populated with that info. When no such records exists, the form is not even shown, eliminating the possibility to insert a record. • How to generate a PDF of dynamic HTML content?

  I am trying to be able to allow users to generate content dynamically, and have that information be in a , and then allow that specific to be exportable to a pdf. I have got Joomla up and running (with the appropriate mySQL and ANT) locally with the Web2PDF extension, but how would I get those running on my domain (hosted by Dreamhost). Are there any other approaches you might recommend. The content is generated by JS and JQuery, and formatted with CSS and HTML. Other considerations: Web2PDF generates a PDF on the entire content, (pulling the entire page's HTML, not just the specific <div>.
