  • lists searches in SYB or uniplate haskell

    - by Chris
    I have been using uniplate and SYB and I am trying to transform a list For instance type Tree = [DataA] data DataA = DataA1 [DataB] | DataA2 String | DataA3 String [DataA] deriving Show data DataB = DataB1 [DataA] | DataB2 String | DataB3 String [DataB] deriving Show For instance, I would like to traverse my tree and append a value to all [DataB] So my first thought was to do this: changeDataB:: Tree -> Tree changeDataB = everywhere(mkT changeDataB') chanegDataB'::[DataB] -> [DataB] changeDataB' <add changes here> or if I was using uniplate changeDataB:: Tree -> Tree changeDataB = transformBi changeDataB' chanegDataB'::[DataB] -> [DataB] changeDataB' <add changes here> The problem is that I only want to search on the full list. Doing either of these searches will cause a search on the full list and all of the sub-lists (including the empty list) The other problem is that a value in [DataB] may generate a [DataB], so I don't know if this is the same kind of solution as not searching chars in a string. I could pattern match on DataA1 and DataB3, but in my real application there are a bunch of [DataB]. Pattern matching on the parents would be extensive. The other thought that I had was to create a data DataBs = [DataB] and use that to transform on. That seems kind of lame, there must be a better solution.

  • What is the most efficient way to handle points / small vectors in JavaScript?

    - by Chris
    Currently I'm creating an web based (= JavaScript) application thata is using a lot of "points" (= small, fixed size vectors). There are basically two obvious ways of representing them: var pointA = [ xValue, yValue ]; and var pointB = { x: xValue, y: yValue }; So translating my point a bit would look like: var pointAtrans = [ pointA[0] + 3, pointA[1] + 4 ]; var pointBtrans = { x: pointB.x + 3, pointB.y + 4 }; Both are easy to handle from a programmer point of view (the object variant is a bit more readable, especially as I'm mostly dealing with 2D data, seldom with 3D and hardly with 4D - but never more. It'll allways fit into x,y,z and w) But my question is now: What is the most efficient way from the language perspective - theoretically and in real implementations? What are the memory requirements? What are the setup costs of an array vs. an object? ... My target browsers are FireFox and the Webkit based ones (Chromium, Safari), but it wouldn't hurt to have a great (= fast) experience under IE and Opera as well...

  • How to get dataset to populate data into dbgrid in Delphi 6?

    - by Chris J
    I have created a DBGrid in Delphi 6 and tied it to a DataSource contained in a DataModule. The Dataset for that source in also located in the same module. In the OnShow event for the form, I activate the dataset and set a label equal to the rowcount for the dataset. This shows several hundred rows but nothing shows in the dbgrid. If I activate the dataset in the IDE, the grid populates with the expected data. Does anyone have any idea why this behaviour would change between the IDE and normal runtime? We are also using SDAC connection components. All 3rd party component choices are not mine to change. I can elaborate as necessary for clarification, but I mainly need troubleshooting ideas to start at.

  • What's the most minimal Java web MVC framework?

    - by Chris Collins
    I'm looking for a Java web framework that requires the most minimal amount of configuration for a very small app. Spring & Struts are definitely overkill here. This is an app that could be written without any framework at all but I would prefer to use a minimal MVC framework if I can find one.

  • Changing a Select dropdown with a jquery ui slider

    - by Chris J. Lee
    Trying to set a select dropdown with a slider. You move the jquery ui slider and then it will change the selection of the other two dropdowns. is there a current method in jquery that would set these options? Current dropdown: <select id="alert-options-frequency-opts"> <option value=""></option> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> <option value="4">4</option> <option value="5">5</option> <option value="6">6</option> <option value="7">7</option> <option value="8">8</option> <option value="9">9</option> <option value="10">10</option> </select>

  • Representing parent-child relationships in SharePoint lists

    - by Chris Farmer
    I need to create some functionality in our SharePoint app that populates a list or lists with some simple hierarchical data. Each parent record will represent a "submission" and each child record will be a "submission item." There's a 1-to-n relationship between submissions and submission items. Is this practical to do in SharePoint? The only types of list relationships I've done so far are lookup columns, but this seems a bit different. Also, once such a list relationship is established, then what's the best way to create views on this kind of data. I'm almost convinced that it'd be easier just to write this stuff to an external database, but I'd like to give SharePoint a shot in order to take advantage of the automated search capabilities.

  • Where can I find Python tutorials aimed at people who are already programmers?

    - by Chris R
    I'm a reasonably skilled programmer, and I'm interested in branching out into some new languages -- python, specifically -- but frankly I do NOT want to go through a tutorial that assumes I know nothing about programming. I want a tutorial -- again, preferably for python -- that assumes I'm just unfamiliar with the language itself and describes the ways I can use the language to solve problems. Does such a beast exist? I mean, other than the Python wiki?

  • Cakephp: Access data in add function

    I'm using the CakePHP blog example: function add() { if (!empty($this->data)) { if ($this->Post->saveAll($this->data)) { $this->Session->setFlash('Your post has been saved.'); $this->redirect(array('action' => 'index')); } }} I want to modify it in a way that the user is redirected to the post after adding it: But this doesn't work: $this->redirect(array('action' => 'view', $this->Post->id))); What is the correct way to read the model's data after creation?

  • Start Windows GUI Application Development With C++

    - by Chris
    I'm looking into creating a GUI program for Windows in C++, I have a good knowledge of C++ in the command line and also in game creation. But I'm not sure where to start with GUI application development. I have Visual Studio 2010 and have created new projects with a GUI but these templates are complex and leaves me not understanding whats happening and how to modify it. So I'm asking where do I start? Preferably good websites that you can recommend or tutorials, rather than books being a poor student :)

  • Including full LaTeX documents within others.

    - by Chris Clarke
    I'm currently finishing off my dissertation, and would like to be able to include some documents within my LaTeX document. The files I'd like to include are weekly reports done in LaTeX to my supervisor. Obviously all documents are page numbered seperately. I would like them to be included in the final document. I could concatenate all the final PDFs using GhostScript or some other tool, but I would like to have consistent numbering throughout the document. I have tried including the LaTeX from each document in the main document, but the preamble etc causes problems and the small title I have in each report takes a whole page... In summary, I'm looking for a way of including a number of 1 or 2 page self-complete LaTeX files in a large report, keeping their original layouts, but changing the page numbering.

  • C# object (2 numbers) performing 2 calculations

    - by Chris
    I have a couple questions about creating a object (2 values) and how to "call" it. Initializing the object with: Tweetal t1, t2, t3, t4, t5, t6; t1 = new Tweetal(); //a: 0 , b = 0 t2 = new Tweetal(-2); //a: -2, b = -2 t3 = new Tweetal(5, 17); //a: 5, b = 17 t4 = new Tweetal(t3); //a:5, b = 17 Console.Write("t1 = " + t1); Console.Write("\tt2 = " + t2); Console.Write("\tt3 = " + t3); Console.Write("\tt4 = " + t4); Console.WriteLine("\n"); t1 = t1.Som(t2); t4 = t2.Som(t2); //...... Now the 2 things i want to do with this object are taking the SUM and the SUMNumber: Sum: t4 = t2.sum(t3); (this would result in t4: a:3 (-2+5), b: 15(-2+17) SumNumber: t1 = t3.sum(8) (this would result in t1: a:13 , b:25) Next is my code for the object (in a separate class), but how exactly do i perform the simple sum calculation when i call up for example t2 etc... public class Tweetal: Object { private int a; private int b; public Tweetal() { //??? //Sum(...,...) } public Tweetal(int a) { //??? //Sum(...,...) } public Tweetal(int a, int b) { //??? } public Tweetal(Tweetal //....) // to call upton the object if i request t1, t2, t3,... insteed of a direct number value) { // ???? } public void Sum(int aValue, int bValue) { //a = ??? //b = ??? //Sum(...,...) } public void SumNumber(int aValue, int bValue) { } public override string ToString() { return string.Format("({0}, {1})", a, b); }/*ToString*/ }

  • Preventing a child process (HandbrakeCLI) from causing the parent script to exit

    - by Chris
    I have a batch conversion script to turn .mkvs of various dimensions into ipod/iphone sized .mp4s, cropping/scaling to suit. Determining the original dimensions, required crop, output file is all working fine. However, on successful completion of the first conversion, HandbrakeCLI causes the parent script to exit. Why would this be? And how can I stop it? The code, as it currently stands: #!/bin/bash find . -name "*.mkv" | while read FILE do # What would the output file be? DST=../Touch/$(dirname "$FILE") MKV=$(basename "$FILE") MP4=${MKV%%.mkv}.mp4 # If it already exists, don't overwrite it if [ -e "$DST/$MP4" ] then echo "NOT overwriting $DST/$MP4" else # Stuff to determine dimensions/cropping removed for brevity HandbrakeCLI --preset "iPhone & iPod Touch" --vb 900 --crop $crop -i "$FILE" -o "$DST/$MP4" > /dev/null 2>&1 if [ $? != 0 ] then echo "$FILE had problems" >> errors.log fi fi done I have additionally tried it with a trap, but that didn't change the behaviour (although the last trap did fire) trap "echo Handbrake SIGINT-d" SIGINT trap "echo Handbrake SIGTERM-d" SIGTERM trap "echo Handbrake EXIT-d" EXIT trap "echo Handbrake 0-d" 0

  • NSTextField enter to trigger action

    - by Chris
    I've been looking all over for a simple example of how to have an action (or button) be triggered when the enter key is hit in the text field. Should I subclass the text field? Would I need to set a delegate to call the action I need? Is there a way to catch the event in my main window controller class? If you could even just point me to the right direction that would be great. Thanks.

  • Will Visual Studio 2010 support HTML 5?

    - by Chris
    Since Visual Studio 2010 is slated for release in March of 2010 and HTML 5 is now starting to be used even more widely, I would like to know if Visual Studio will ship with HTML 5 templates, standard controls and support for the more common markup? A definition for support of HTML 5 would be that any new version of Visual Studio should have similar support for code-completion, validation and markup that is currently supported for HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.0 and 1.1. Update From the Visual Web Develolper Team Blog: HTML 5 intellisense and validation schema for Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Web Developer is for downloading. Follow the instructions posted on the page to install the new scheme. Seems like the Visual Studio Team will be supporting HTML 5 after all.

  • Indexing XMLType columns

    - by Chris
    Hello, I am working with a XMLType and currently experiencing significant performance issues and would like to incorporate indexing to the column type. Currently I am taking the approach of using the XMLTable() and XQuery functions to create a virtual table. I would like to use this Virtual Table to create a function based index on the table containing the XMLType, but I am receiving this error: Error report: SQL Error: ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis 00907. 00000 - "missing right parenthesis" *Cause: *Action: This is the index.. any assistance would be greatly appreciated. CREATE INDEX indx_medicinalproduct ON d.ProductName XMLTable('for $i at $a in /safetyreport/patient//drug for $j in $i/medicinalproduct return element r { $i/medicinalproduct }' PASSING s.safetyreport COLUMNS ProductName varchar2(70) PATH 'medicinalproduct') d;

  • Order of operations in C. ++ vs |=, which occurs first?

    - by chris
    I have the following code that I'm reading through: if( (i%2) == 0 ){ *d = ((b & 0x0F) << 4); } else{ *d++ |= (b & 0x0F); }; I'm looking specifically at the else statement and wondering in what order this occurs? I don't have a regular C compiler, so I can't test this. When we are performing *d++ |= (b & 0x0F);, what order does this occur in?

  • Cakephp: Extend search capability to hasMany Relationship

    - by Chris
    I have two models: Car hasMany Passengers Passenger belongsTo Car I want to implement a search using Cake Search. The user should input a number and the searchengine should return all cars that have less than this number passengers. In my search form: echo $form->input('passengers', array('label' => 'Passengers', 'div' => false)); In my Car model: public $filterArgs = array( array('name' => 'passengers', 'type' => 'int'), ); In the controller: public $presetVars = array( array('field' => 'passengers', 'type' => 'int') } I thought of adding a function to the model that returns the number of passengers: function countPassengers(){ return(count($this->Car->Passenger)); //Not sure if this works } And how to I implement this search criteria?: return all Cars where countPassengers()<passenger

  • Casting a Calculated Column in a MySQL view.

    - by Chris Brent
    I have a view that contains a calculated column. Is there are a way to cast it as a CHAR or VARCHAR rather than a VARBINARY ? Obviously, I have tried using CAST(... as CHAR) but it gives an error. Here is a simple replicable example. CREATE VIEW view_example AS SELECT concat_ws('_', lpad(9, 3,'0'), lpad(1,3,'0'), date_format(now(),'%Y%m%d%H%i%S')) AS calculated_field_id; This is how my view is created: describe view_example; +---------------------+---------------+------+-----+---------+-------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +---------------------+---------------+------+-----+---------+-------+ | calculated_field_id | varbinary(27) | YES | | NULL | | +---------------------+---------------+------+-----+---------+-------+ select version(); +-----------------------+ | version() | +-----------------------+ | 5.0.51a-community-log | +-----------------------+

  • 2 dimensional arraylists in java

    So here's the deal I'm working on a project that requires me to have a 2 dimensional arraylist of 1 dimensional arrays. But every time I try to load in my data I get an error: Can't do this opperation because of bad input java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 1, Size: 0 On some of the inputs.
