    I often need to log in with a user's domain account to make sure that I've set up their profile correctly, but there's no easy way to do this other than to call them and give them a temp pass and force them to change it (bad, since they often forget it,) or ask for their password (worse.) Is there any way to change a user's password, then set it back to the original later? I tried to see if there was any way to get the NTLM hash so I could set it back later, but there doesn't seem to be a facility for that built into AD.

    I'm going to be distributing instructions on how to access our new Subversion repository with TortoiseSVN. Because it's hosted on Windows, and we have some large files in the repository, we have to use the Serf HTTP library instead of neon. This is normally specified by manually editing the Subversion "servers" file on the client machine and adding the line http-library=serf Is there a way I can customize the TortoiseSVN installer to do this automatically? I'm just trying to get it up and running as easy as possible for our new SVN users.

    Hi everyone, I am about to setup a home network server running Ubuntu Server and I'm currently a bit worried about how to handle network shares and permissions in a good way. After working a bit lately with Netgears ReadyNAS's units, I have become really spoiled with how easy it was to set up network shares and giving a specific user different levels of network access to a specific share (forbidden access, read, read/write). How would I accomplish the same with my Ubuntu server through SSH? Thanks a lot

  • How can I determine the sector size on an external hard drive?

    Hard drives are transitioning from 512 byte to 4096 byte sector sizes, and it looks like Windows XP won't support these newer drives without additional software (such as WDalign from Western Digital) My question is: how does this affect external hard drives? I'll be buying a 1TB USB external drive, and it'll be plugged into a mix of Windows 7 and XP machines. Is there an easy way to tell what the sector size on an external hard drive is?

  • How to transfer files from windows 7 pc to vista

    Tried using direct connection using Ethernet cable and using windows easy transfer, but no luck, also tried using ad-hoc, home group, and connecting through a router both wired and wireless but no luck, im getting a little frustrated as I need to transfer these files because im selling one of them this afternoon! All I need to do is transfer some documents and files. The windows 7 pc recognizes the vista pc but vista cant recognize the win 7.

Resources could be websites, local computer applications, custom api, etc. Compatibility should be Windows XP, 2008 Server, 7, Vista.     I need a script that can be run on freshly installed windows xp+ and download specified files from internet, like http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.6.2/python-2.6.2.msi Is it any easy way to do it without hand-crafting HTTP/FTP requests or using third-party programs like wget? I can suggest that WScript.CreateObject("internetexplorer.application") will do the magic, but documentation on it is extremely huge and Google is silent, as always :).

However one of the things I'm testing is interfacing with classic "old-school" HTTP-Auth protected pages, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to turn that on in jboss (and my google-fu seems to have let me down.) So, how do I add a basic username and password to a single html (or jsp) file in jboss using http Basic Access Authentication?

  • RHEL 5 list missing critical patches/packages

    Im trying to figure out if there is an easy way to identify the missing critical patches/packages on my RHEL5 boxes. This is for audit purposes and was trying to figure out if there was an RPM command or something of the sort that would accomplish this easily. I know with my Solaris 10 boxes, i can run the "smpatch analyze" command which would display this information for me. Anyone know of anything similar for RHEL5? Thanks.

    I'm trying to automatize some configurations I have with bash script, I've never done this before so I tried with something easy like a Hello World! and everything works just fine, but then I tried something like this: #!/bin/bash sudo su apt-get purge postfix and it doesn't do anything, I check and postfix is still installed, and at any time it asks for any entry of mine, I just tried with apt-get but I'll do things like ssh-keygen or even write files I guess with cat or something, how could I do the script working and also seeing what's going on?

  • 403 error with codeignitor

    When I type in the standard web address for my site, I get a 403 error. However, when I type in a more exact address, say pointing to an index.php file, everything shows up fine. I'm using Anodyne Productions' Nova (SMS 3) which uses codeignitor. All accompanying software (PHP/MySQL) is compatible. I'm not a very technical person, so I'm hoping that this is an easy fix. But when i forward that. then all emails which i have forwarded are attached on the bottom to look likr long conversation and i had to click on top email to again forward to some one. Is there any way that i one email marked as Starred etc so that when i forward it , the forwarded message should not attach to that mail and that email stays only one so that it becomes easy for me to forward to other people

  • WinSCP clobbers permission & group on replace

    Is there a way to tell winscp to keep the group and permission of my upload file? I am tired of modifying webpages/webapp binaries and needing to change the group to www-data so the server can read them. If not what app might i use instead? I mostly use winscp for the easy of copy/pasting files onto my linux server and the ease of browsing the filesystem (can go between 2+ folders in a second, no typos)
