    Consider the array a: > a <- array(c(1:9, 1:9), c(3,3,2)) > a , , 1 [,1] [,2] [,3] [1,] 1 4 7 [2,] 2 5 8 [3,] 3 6 9 , , 2 [,1] [,2] [,3] [1,] 1 4 7 [2,] 2 5 8 [3,] 3 6 9 How do we efficiently compute the row sums of the matrices indexed by the third dimension, such that the result is: [,1] [,2] [1,] 12 12 [2,] 15 15 [3,] 18 18 ?? The column sums are easy via the 'dims' argument of colSums(): > colSums(a, dims = 1) but I cannot find a way to use rowSums() on the array to achieve the desired result, as it has a different interpretation of 'dims' to that of colSums(). It is simple to compute the desired row sums using: > apply(a, 3, rowSums) [,1] [,2] [1,] 12 12 [2,] 15 15 [3,] 18 18 but that is just hiding the loop. Are there other efficient, truly vectorised, ways of computing the required row sums?

  • What is a fast way to set debugging code at a given line in a function?

    Preamble: R's trace() is a powerful debugging tool, allowing users to "insert debugging code at chosen places in any function". Unfortunately, using it from the command-line can be fairly laborious. As an artificial example, let's say I want to insert debugging code that will report the between-tick interval calculated by pretty.default(). I'd like to insert the code immediately after the value of delta is calculated, about four lines up from the bottom of the function definition. (Type pretty.default to see where I mean.) To indicate that line, I need to find which step in the code it corresponds to. The answer turns out to be step list(c(12, 3, 3)), which I zero in on by running through the following steps: as.list(body(pretty.default)) as.list(as.list(body(pretty.default))[[12]]) as.list(as.list(as.list(body(pretty.default))[[12]])[[3]]) as.list(as.list(as.list(body(pretty.default))[[12]])[[3]])[[3]] I can then insert debugging code like this: trace(what = 'pretty.default', tracer = quote(cat("\nThe value of delta is: ", delta, "\n\n")), at = list(c(12,3,3))) ## Try it a <- pretty(c(1, 7843)) b <- pretty(c(2, 23)) ## Clean up untrace('pretty.default') Questions: So here are my questions: Is there a way to print out a function (or a parsed version of it) with the lines nicely labeled by the steps to which they belong? Alternatively, is there another easier way, from the command line, to quickly set debugging code for a specific line within a function? Addendum: I used the pretty.default() example because it is reasonably tame, but with real/interesting functions, repeatedly using as.list() quickly gets tiresome and distracting.   • Can you specify if aspnet_compiler.exe creates a debug or release build?

    I wish to compile my asp.net MVC application using aspnet_compiler.exe from the comandline to speed up cold startup. I'm wondering how it determines if it should do a release or debug build. Is it always release? Does it depend on what the web.config file says when you run aspnet_compiler.exe? What happens to an application that's been compiled w/ aspnet_compiler.exe if someone changed the bug attribute in the web.config file after it has been published? Any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Module Adminhtml blocks not loading

    I was working on a Magento module and it was working fine. At some point, I was trying to enable WYSIWYG in an edit form 'content' field and suddenly, my adminhtml grid and edit blocks stopped being generated. On my system are TinyMCE and Fontis FCKEditor WYSIWYG editors extensions. I'm not sure what I did wrong but my adminhtml blocks will no longer generate.     I am using the default Amazon Linux AMI in an EC2 instance - Amazon Linux AMI release 2010.11.1. I can see that it's a Redhat based system, but after trying many tools (/etc/issues, uname -a, lsb_release), I cannot tell which version of RHEL or CentOS is it based on. I need to get some packages that are not available in Amazon's package repos. I have list of custom yum repos that I can use, but since I don't know which RHEL version is the Amazon AMI based on, I cannot choose from different versions of repos. How can I find whether it's running RHEL 4/5/6 (or their CentOS counterparts)?

    I'm sorry if im not presenting this right, but i trully cannot understand what the problem is. i have a project to hand in, a code of 600 lines defined within a main, .cpp, and header file. if i compile the project with just a debugger and no release, it's fine. when i create it with the release, the following error occurs, for every function!!! 1st error: |36|multiple definition of `countLines(int&, std::vector const&)'| 2nd error: |36|first defined here| if someone will allow me and i can send them the entire code, that would be awesome - i have to have this done within 3 hours.

  • I need to debug my BrowserHelperObject (BHO) (in C++) after a internet explorer 8 crash in Release m

    Hi, here is the situation, i'm developping a Browser Helper Object (BHO) in C++ with Visual Studio 2008, and i learned that the memory wasn't managed the same way in Debug mode than in Release mode. So when i run my BHO in debug mode, internet explorer 8 works just fine and i got no erros at all, the browser stays alive forever, but as soon as i compile it in release mode, i got no errors, no message, nothing, but after 5 minutes i can see through the task manager that internet explorer instances are just eating memory and then the browser just stop responding every time. Please, I really need some hint on how to get a feedback on what could be the error. I heard that, often it was happening because of memory mismanagement. I need a software that just grab a memory dump or something when iexplorer crashes to help me find the problem. Any help is appreciated, I'll be looking for responses every single days, thank you.

    Is there a way to move my mouse in and out of a KVM guest in virt-manager without having to click to gain focus of the window and release focus by pressing Ctrl_L + Alt_L? EDIT #1 The guest VM is Win2008R2. I've tried this on a CentOS 5, 6, and Fedora 14 box running various versions of virt-manager and KVM and they all exhibit this behavior. EDIT #2 I just tried the solution recommended by @tpow and that appears to be the issue. Manually adding a tablet input device resolves the problem and I can now move the mouse in and out of the KVM guest without having to gain focus first.

    I need to run a Select statement (DB2 SQL) that does not pull adjacent row duplicates based on a certain field. In specific, I am trying to find out when data changes, which is made difficult because it might change back to its original value. That is to say, I have a table that vaguely resembles: A, 5, Jan A, 12, Feb A, 12, Mar A, 12, Apr A, 9, May A, 9, Jun A, 5, Jul And I want to get the results: A, 5, Jan A, 12, Feb A, 9, May A, 5, Jul discarding adjacent duplicates but keeping the last row. The obvious: Select Letter, Number, Min(Month) from Table group by Letter, Number does not work -- it doesn't include the last row.

  • How can I replicate the functionality of the Flash Builder's release tool in ant?

    I want to build an ant script that does exactly the same compilation actions on a Flash Builder 4 (Gumbo) project as the Project->Export Release Build... menu item does. My ant-fu is reasonably strong, that's not the issue, but rather I'm not sure exactly what that entry is doing. Some details: I'll be using the 3.x SDK (say, 3.2 for the sake of specificity) to build this. I'll be building on a Mac, and I can happily use ant, make, or some weird shell script stuff if that's the way you roll. Any useful optimizations you can suggest will be welcome. The project contains a few assets, MXML and actionscript source, and a couple of .swcs that are built into the project (not RSL'd) Can someone provide an ant build.xml or makefle that they use to build a release .swf file from a similar Flex project?

  • Trying to match variables in a PHP array

    I'm stuck with a php array problem. I've to a webpage that takes values from a URL, and I need to cross reference those values against some values on the page and if they match output a 'yes'. It's an expression engine bodge job. The URL is something like domain.com/page/C12&C14 The C12 and C14 represent different categories. I've taken the last bit of the url, removed the 'C' from the values and then exploded the 12&14 into an array. I print_r the array on the page and it shows: Array ( [0] = 12 [1] = 14 ) So, the values are in the array. Lovely. Now on the page I have an html list which looks like 10 12 14 15 I want to output a YES next to the variables that are current in the array so the ideal output would be: 10 12 - YES 14 - YES 15 I was trying this but it keeps just saying No next to all of them. $currentnumber = 12; foreach ($tharray as $element) { if ($element == $currentnumber) { echo "Yes"; } else { echo "No"; } } I thought that should work, but it's not. I checked and the array and the variable are both stings. I did a strlen() on both to see if they are the same, but $currentnumber outputs '13' and the array variable outputs '2'. Any ideas as to why it's saying 13? Is the variable the wrong type of string - and if so how would I convert it?

I found a way of doing this through the "SET" datatype and some bit trickery: http://dev.mysql.com/tech-resources/articles/mysql-set-datatype.html#bits However, I need to do this on an arbitrary list of IDs.     In my Java application I use a DateFormat instance to parse date inputs. DateFormat fmt; fmt = DateFormat.getDateInstance(DateFormat.DEFAULT) // dd.MM.yyyy for de_DE The problem is that the user insists to enter dates in the form 31.12.11. Unfortunately this is parsed to 31.12.11. (0011-12-31 in ISO format) Instead I want the parsed date to become 31.12.2011 (2011-12-31 in ISO format). Can I modify the date format to somehow parse inputs that way?

    I am trying to setup phpMyAdmin to use with a remote MySQL databases on Scientific Linux release 6.2. If I use the mysql command line to connect to the remote database it works great but if I use mysqladmin I am getting "#2002 Cannot log in to the MySQL server". I have found if I do a: setenforce 0 It will work from myphpadmin to my remote database but once I reboot or set Scientific Linux setenforce back to one it stops working again.. I know setenforce 0 is not the right thing to do but can someone please give me details steps on how to get this working the right way... thanks I am new to Scientific Linux and been having some issues.. thanks

  • Why is C++ fwrite() producing larger output in release?

    I recently wrote an implementation of the Canonical Huffman compression algorithm. I have a 500kb test file that can be compressed to about 250kb when running the debug and release builds from within Visual Studio 2008. However when I run the release build straight from the executeable the test file only compresses to about 330kb. I am assuming that something is going wrong when the file is written using fwrite(). I have tested the program and confirmed that uncompressing the files always produces the correct uncompressed file. Does anyone know why this could possibly be? How could the same executeable file be producing different sized outputs based on where it is launched from?

  • How to get the records using order by and so on

    I have a table categories containing categories id having the records of 1 to 20. when i am doing the search query by using the IN function in mysql i got the results. but i am struggling to get the results using order by. The limit may be vary for every search as this is one of the input value. For example I have tried this query to find out the search results, select * from categories where category in (20,16,12,8) order by rand(), id limit 0,6 this query is executed and the results are in random category_id. the results will be, 8 12 16 20 and following this, another two records must be 8 12 If category_id contains only one record for 8 then, it should follow from 12,16. How can i achieve this ? thanks in advance.
