I don't know if the problem was well know,I searched the google, but didn't get anything useful.

I have a collection of .tif files but when I open them on Mac OS X 10.5 they show up as solid black and I don't know why.

Upon further inspection at really high brightness there are some out of focus objects viewable. It looks as if I am getting the first couple bits of each pixel but not the entire range of values.
Do you guys know any software that can reproduce the entire tree of directories under a certain directory to another disk and keep it update in real-time on Mac OS X?
A kind of mirror RAID, but instead of mirroring the whole disk I need to mirror just all directories inside one specific directory.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
I'm looking for a regular expression based search/replace GUI tool that is able to handle multiple files/subdirectories, something like grepWin but for Mac OS X.
PS. I'm aware of grep and I don't need an editor, just a standalone tool.
On OS X 10.5 and 10.6 at least, the command to enable all files in Finder only affects Finder Windows -- the "/File /Open" dialogs on applications still show a limited set of files, ignoring nearly all the Unix stuff.
Is there a setting which enables ALL file dialogs of ALL types to show ALL files? I really am a big boy and promise not to harm them! :)
How do you encrypt a single folder on Mac OS X without using a Disk Image?
I have heard you can use a Disk Image to do this but I don't want a giant Disk Image just sitting there which I will probably never fill up.
Thanks in advance!
Why does OS X have both a "Hide" and a "Minimize" feature? This seems somewhat redundant to me, and also introduces some inconsistency when I am trying to find an arbitrary window. If it's hidden, I need to activate the application and use the "Windows" menu to bring it up; if the window is minimized, it appears in the dock.
What are some scenarios in which you'd use these two features differently?
What FREE software (included with Mac OS X, or public domain) would be a good, simple way to take some existing PNG clipart files and do some simple editing?
I really only need to do 3 things:
Rotate the image.
Clip the image.
Set a "transparent" color.
I don't need anything that takes weeks to learn or is super-powerful or super expensive.
I have a process on my Mac OS X system which is in state E ("The process is trying to exit."):
% ps auwwwxc | grep -si JavaApplicationS
sbwoodside 84547 0.0 0.0 0 0 ?? E Mon12am 0:00.00 (JavaApplicationS)
kill -9 84547 does nothing. Is there any special trick to get this process to exit? It's holding some ports open that I would like it to let go of.
I'm spoiled by FastStone on the PC. I'm looking for decent freeware/shareware for Mac OS X that will allow basic photo editing, particularly something that lets me pick a crop size or aspect ratio by entering in numbers rather than just a freehand crop (I need to make sure it's 8.5"x11" aspect ratio).
Any suggestions?
I got OPML files from an iPhone application. I wonder if, appart from Omnioutliner, is possible to open them with Microsoft word or Mail.app for OS X?

I am trying to add a new user to my Mac running Mac OS X 10.6.3. When I am in the Accounts screen, I don't see the user listed, but when I try to add it, I get the error message "Name is used by another user". This user name is not listed in /etc/passwd.
Any idea how to get this user really added to the system?
Thanks
If you wanted to track down performance issues on a machine running Mac OS X and find out what was causing slowdowns, which command-line or graphical tools would you use, and how would you use them?
I'm interested in advice on the best tools, and explanations of how to use them - when a machine slows down or freezes up, I'd like to be able to dig down and understand what's going on, memory / disk / CPU-wise.
Thanks.
I installed gcc 4.0 on Mac OS X Leopard. I linked gcc-4.0 to gcc.
Then I ran gcc to compile a library but I got the following error:
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
I'm using mail from Mac OS terminal to send the results of a database query to me via email. Most of the time it works, but sometimes there is a long delay before the mail arrives (often when another similar script is run). It looks like there is some kind of send queue, but I can't find any docs mentioning this. Is there something I need to do to flush mail from the terminal?
Is there something similar to Altiris (now Symatec) Software Virtualization Suite for Mac OS X?
Or just a possibility to "revert" all changes a app/installer made to the filesystem?
Thanks
I am using a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.5. I am new to this development environment, and previously worked on Windows.
I am wondering how to lock screen for Mac computer, like Windows Key + D to lock screen for Windows PC?
Thanks in advance.
I would like to develop a web application that uses unicode. The problem is that I don't know if the user supports or not the full unicode set.
First question : is the unicode support depends on the browser or the operating system ?
Second question : how well main browsers/OS behave ?
To goal is to find big subsets of mainly supported unicode characters (with the fact that I accept to not support old tech)
Thank you
i am trying to install Mac OS on my partition. In setup when i try to format that partition using Journaled method, it erases it successfully but when i select the partition it shows me that its NTFS-3G, whats going on???

Using screen on Mac OS X, I want to know how to go to the beginning/end of the line.

Hi
I accidentally changed one parameter in Windows and it was crashed and restarted everytime I logon. I can't go with safe mode. Restoring to Known Good Configurations doesn't work too.
Unfortunately I don't have system backup. Are there any ways to recover or edit the registry file from another OS or bootable Windows PE? Which tools can I use to edit?
Many thanks!
