• Best Template Engine for ASP.NET MVC

  I am exploring ASP.NET MVC and I wanted to add jQuery to make the site interactive. I used StringTemplate, ported to .Net, as my template engine to generate html and to send JSON. However, when I view the page, I could not see it. After debugging, I've realized that the $ is used by the StringTemplate to access property, etc and jQuery uses it too to manipulate the DOM. Gee, I've looked on other template engines and most of them uses the dollar sign :(. Any alternative template engine for ASP.Net MVC? I wanted to retain jQuery because MSFT announced that it will used in the Visual Studio (2008?) Thanks in Advance :)

• Cannot read configuration file due to insufficient permissions

  Okay, I realize there are many questions relating to this error, I have read several questions and answers without resolving my problem. I have a MVC site that I'm trying to debug on local IIS web server. I check the option to use local IIS in the project properties and I've created a virtual directory in IIS. The error I get in Visual Studio is: Unable to start debugging on web server. In IIS i try browse the site but get the error: Cannot read configuration file due to insufficient permissions Config File \?\C:\Users\Mike\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\MvcApplication1\MvcApplication1\web.config I've set permissions for the pool identity on the web.config and whole project folder. I've tried localsystem identity, no luck! Please help me resolve this. I've spent several hours trying to fix this.

• ASP.NET MVC Ajax OnBegin/Complete Javascript Problem

  Hello, I am trying to fire off a javascript method using the OnBegin AjaxOption in an Ajax method. However, when debugging with firebug the callback in unable to find the Javascript method and I do not know why. My code is simple, first I use a basic Ajax method like this: <%= Ajax.ActionLink("Testing", "Testing", new AjaxOptions { OnBegin = "RunThisThing" }) % Then under it I decalre this script. <script type="text/javascript"> function RunThisThing { alert("WORK") } </script> Yet when I try running the page and clicking on the link, Firebug tells me "RunThisThing is not defined". Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

• Windows Mobile Development on MacBook Pro?

  I am a frequent Windows Mobile application developer in need of a new development laptop. I am considering a MacBook or Macbook Pro running either Fusion from VMWare or Parallels Desktop. This will give me the option to port my applications to the iPhone depending on what MS does with WM 6.5 and 7. Has anybody tried doing Windows Mobile development using Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center (or ActiveSync) and VS2008 on the MacBook Pro using one of these virtual machines? Does the device emulator work properly? What about debugging a Windows Mobile device over a USB cable? In general, do most USB drivers (non HID) designed for Windows work under these virtual machines? Thanks.

• Using .htaccess to replace backslash in URL with forward-slash

  I realise that a backslash should never appear in a URL in a form other than a URL escape code, however in this case the URL's are being generated by a .NET application for generating flashbooks. I have contacted the developer of this application with a bug report. In the interim i would like to use .htaccess to rewrite the offending backslashes. This is how the URLs appear in fiddler debugging proxy. www.example.com/folder/folder/thumbs%5C1.jpg I am using Firefox and it looks as though Firefox is translating them into the URL encoded equivalent ( \ == %5C1 ). Interestingly IE translates the backslash into a forward-slash automatically (not adhering to standards but convenient in this case). Is there a way to use .htaccess to rewrite all \ to /?

• Windbg + IDA: calculate an address in a module

  Hi all, I'm debugging remotely a windows XP machine. One of my drivers is loaded at address 0xb2c4c000 up to 0xb2cb9680. Now when I open my driver in IDA, the offset I want to set a breakpoint on is at 00017619. How can I effectively match my IDA address into windbg? I've tried the obvious which is to sum 0xb2c4c000 + 00017619 = 0xB2C635F7 and disassemble that address using the 'u' command in windbg. But the results did not match the assembly in IDA. On the side question: is there a way to cancel a command that is running in windbg? Several times I've ran commands that took ages to process, I would like to be able to cancel them if needed. So I can keep working. Thanks for your time.

  I have defined an abstract table model but one of the columns should house date values as dd/mm/yyyy format not sure how to do this. I have a external global file and have hard coded the dates as dd/mm/yyyy.   In the Script documents that asp.net automatically generates how can I surround the whole generated scripts with try/catch statement to avoid 'Microsoft JScript Compilation error' My issue is: i got a DevExpress control (ASPxGridView) that added and set-up in run time, since i activated the grouping functionality in the grid I still get JS error says ';' expected whenever i use (click) on one of grouping/sorting abilities, I activated script Debugging for IE, in the JS code turns out that there is no missing ';' and once i click ignore for the error msg that VS generates every thing works fine, and surly end-user can't see this msg so i figured out if i try/catch the script that may help avoid this error.   Hello, I am trying to redirect the output from my DLL to an external console window for easy debugging. I have been told about AllocConsole but I am not able to reproduce it, i.e. the console window does not appear. My current environment is Visual Studio 2005. I tried the following example which is gotten off the Internet, AllocConsole(); HANDLE han = GetStdHandle(STD_OUTPUT_HANDLE); WriteConsole(han,"hello",6,new DWORD,0); yet nothing happens.   1.Does dynamic proxy instance subclass the target class? The java doc says the proxy instance implements "a list of interfaces", says nothing about subclassing, but through debugging, I saw that the proxy instance did inherit the target class properites.What does the "a list of interfaces " mean? Can I exclude those interfaces implemented by target class ? 2.Can I invoke target class specific methods on a proxy instance? 3. I think dynamic proxy is an interface methods invocation proxy but rather than a target class proxy, is that right (I am deeply infected by hibernate proxy object concept)?

• Session in Iframe working in Firefox but not in Internet Explorer

  Im trying to get a form working in Internet Explorer. I see that when i submit this form in Firefox I can start a session and send my webbrowser to the right page based on that Session. In Internet Explorer however when i'm debugging the $_SESSION i retrieve an empty array back, this means that in Internet Explorer the session isn't started on my second page. • Assembly wide multicast attributes. Are they evil?

  I am working on a project where we have several attributes in AssemblyInfo.cs, that are being multicast to a methods of a particular class. [assembly: Repeatable( AspectPriority = 2, AttributeTargetAssemblies = "MyNamespace", AttributeTargetTypes = "MyNamespace.MyClass", AttributeTargetMemberAttributes = MulticastAttributes.Public, AttributeTargetMembers = "*Impl", Prefix = "Cls")] What I don't like about this, is that it puts a piece of login into AssemblyInfo (Info, mind you!), which for starters should not contain any logic at all. The worst part of it, is that the actual MyClass.cs does not have the attribute anywhere in the file, and it is completely unclear that methods of this class might have them. From my perspective it greatly hurts readability of the code (not to mention that overuse of PostSharp can make debugging a nightmare). Especially when you have multiple multicast attributes. What is the best practice here? Is anyone out there is using PostSharp attributes like this?

• Is there a way to log when a particular memory location gets written and by which function?

  I'm having a bug in my c++ program which happens very rarely but crashes my program. It's seems I have some buffer overflow problem or something similar. I find that these types of bug are most difficult to find. My program always crashes because of the same corrupted memory location. I'm wondering if there is some debugging tool which could detect when a particular memory location get written to and logs the function which does it. I'm using VLD (visual leak detector) for my memory leak hunting and it works great. It substitutes the original mallocs which its own and logs every allocation. I was wondering if there is something similar for memory? I know that something like that would cripple a program, but it could be really helpful.

  This San Mateo development company makes a freely downloadable convenient packaging of many plugins for Eclipse called Aptana. I was recently in an environment where Aptana came pre-installed. Not only is it a good IDE for RoR, it also does a somewhat decent job (sans debugging) for PHP, Python, HTML, CSS, and Javascript. According to their own web site, their IDE also supports Adobe Air and the iPhone. If you are currently using Eclipse, then do you also use Aptana too? What, if any, are the drawbacks to using Aptana?

  I'm sorry if this question is a bit vague, but I'm quite confused. I've got a controller that calls a service to delete an entity and then create an entity in its place. In the service, I've got my DAO, and my entity, and I want to delete my entity, so I call DAO.delete(entity); Then, seemingly out of nowhere, I get an InvocationTargetException. • SilverLight WebApp Calling Webservice in the same solution

  Hi, I have a website solution that is composed of a SilverLight Project and an ASP Site that contains an asmx Webservice. The SilverLight project calls various methods in the Webservice, and this works fine on my home PC. When i publish the site (using 123-Reg if that makes a difference), it appears that the SilverLight app is no longer able to call the webservice. I have tried debugging the app by pointing my local version of the site to my published webservice and i get a "policy" issue. I know that 123 Reg have .Net 3.5 running on their servers, so i would assume that the site should "just work" when i publish it. Am i making a hugely stupid assumption there? Is there anything that i can do to change the "policies" within my app? Or is there another way around what i am trying to do ( i need to keep the webservice, as i want for it to be used from other places, and dont really want to duplicate code and create the same methods within the SilverLight project). • .NET Remoting Client's Problem when running on the machine with Multi NICs

  I built a .NET Remoting Client which works quite fine on the machine of single NIC, and lots of testing messages received via remoting event. But when additional NIC was added, the Client seemed to be able to connect the remoting Server, but the testing messages cannot arrive anymore. From debugging, the server end did trigger the event but the client didn't get that. • How to catch printf from a dll?

  I've got a C++ console application that uses a third-party dll (jvm.dll, indirectly) that uses printf to print various error messages (Java stacktrace). I need to catch these stacktraces to a string in order to process them further, or at least to see them printed on the console. The thing is that I see the stacktrace only when debugging my application in VisualStudio (VS 2010). When I run my application in the "normal way", i.e. from the command line, nothing is printed on the console. So VS is able to somehow interfere the java output and display it. I need to be able to do the same thing. I've already tried freopen(), but without success. Also, I've found this question on the same problem, but without a clear answer.

• Changing the background colour of lines in the stack

  I have just changed the colour scheme of my Visual Studio 2008 environment to have a dark backround with light text. This is so much easier on the eyes. The only problem is lines that are on the call stack... Those lines that are referred to in this thread here in visual studio some lines of code have light grey background while debugging These lines have a bright grey background, which against my light text means I cannot read the text at all. I have been through every single colour in Tools - Options - Fonts and Colours and cannot find one that matches. How can I change the background for lines on the current call stack?

• pyplot: really slow creating heatmaps

  I have a loop that executes the body about 200 times. In each loop iteration, it does a sophisticated calculation, and then as debugging, I wish to produce a heatmap of a NxM matrix. But, generating this heatmap is unbearably slow and significantly slow downs an already slow algorithm. My code is along the lines: import numpy import matplotlib.pyplot as plt for i in range(200): matrix = complex_calculation() plt.set_cmap("gray") plt.imshow(matrix) plt.savefig("frame{0}.png".format(i)) The matrix, from numpy, is not huge --- 300 x 600 of doubles. Even if I do not save the figure and instead update an on-screen plot, it's even slower. Surely I must be abusing pyplot. (Matlab can do this, no problem.) How do I speed this up?

  Hi all, I'm new to .Net and IIS. I've created a simple RESTful Web Service in VS2008 and .net 3.5 framework using WCF. I've tested it well with F5 debugging in VS(seems it is auto deployed on Windows Service). Now I want to deploy it on my IIS server so that I can use it remotely. But I cannot find any guide for this. I manually deployed my service folder just as an ASP.net site. But seems it does not work(keep showing 401 error). Can anyone tell me how to deploy it to IIS? It contains a simple GET method and I hope it can be accessed by anomynous clients (because the host IP is 192.168..). I have a web.config file, a .dll and .pdb under /bin folder, a Global.asax and .svc file for my service. The IIS server is on the same machine. Thanks a million.

  Hi, I have a tableview, when the user selects a row i call a webservice depending on which row is selected. my problem is i can connect to the webservice but i dont get any response from the webservice.
