    I'm trying to layout 6 images per page with prawn in Ruby: case (idx % 6) # ugly when 0 : (pdf.start_new_page; pdf.image img, :position => :left, :vposition => :top, :width => 270) when 1 : pdf.image img, :position => :right, :vposition => :top, :width => 270 when 2 : pdf.image img, :position => :left, :vposition => :center, :width => 270 when 3 : pdf.image img, :position => :right, :vposition => :center, :width => 270 when 4 : pdf.image img, :position => :left, :vposition => :bottom, :width => 270 when 5 : pdf.image img, :position => :right, :vposition => :bottom, :width => 270 end Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but it prints the first 3 images to the PDF, then creates a new page and prints the last three: Page 1: <img> <img> <blank> <blank> <blank> <blank> Page 2: <blank> <blank> <blank> <img> <img> <img> Any suggestions would help.

    In sprite-based systems, it's common to fake rotation of a sprite by having many different images, each showing it rotated an extra few degrees. Is there any free tool which will take a single image, and output a single image containing several rotations? It should also ideally let us control how many images are in each row. e.g if I have a 32x32 sprite and I want it rotated at 10 degree intervals, the tool might generate a 320x32 file or a 160x64 file

    How can I tell if return() was called from within the included file. The problem is that include() returns 'int 1', even if return() wasn't called.   • Servlet response wrapper has encoding problem

    A servlet response wrapper is being used in a Servlet Filter. The idea is that the response is manipulated, with a 'nonce' value being injected into forms, as part of defence against CSRF attacks. The web app is using UTF-8 everywhere. When the Servlet Filter is absent, no problems. When the filter is added, encoding issues occur. (It seems as if the response is reverting to 8859-1.) String originalInput = new String(aInputResponse, encoding); String modifiedResult = addHiddenParamToPostedForms(originalInput); result = modifiedResult.getBytes(encoding); ... } ... } As I understand it, the transition between byte-land and String-land should specify an encoding. That is done here, as you can see, in two places. The value of the 'encoding' variable is 'UTF-8'; the alteration of the String itself is standard string manipulation (with a regex), and never specifies an encoding (addHiddenParamToPostedForms). Where am I in error about the encoding?   • UIAlertView Will not show

    I have a program that is requesting a JSON string. I have created a class that contains the connect method below. When the root view is coming up, it does a request to this class and method to load up some data for the root view. When I test the error code (by changing the URL host to 127.0.0.1), I expect the Alert to show. Behavior is that the root view just goes black, and the app aborts with no alert. No errors in debug mode on the console, either. Any thoughts as to this behavior? I've been looking around for hints to this for hours to no avail. Thanks in advance for your help.   • Where is mpx386.6 and start.c in Minix 3.2?

    I'm trying to follow along in Operating Systems and Implementation 3rd edition and I'm now at the part in the book where Tanenbaum is discussing bootup and kernel process switching. He keeps referring to these 2 files (mpx386.s, start.c) that are supposedly in a directory called kernel, but I can't seem to find them. In the root directory, when I go to boot/minix/3.2.0/kernel, kernel just seems to be a binary file that is illegible in terminal. There also seems to be a bunch of mod01-mod12 gz binary files as well in the 3.2.0 directory. Am I in the wrong directory, or is there something I need to install and do to read kernel? I would like to follow along with the book to what's on my screen, instead of constantly flipping back and forth. I realize alot of files are completely different from this book published in 2006 and I accept that, but this seems to be a critical juncture of the book and the operating system as a whole. If it's any consolation, I'm running the OS in Virtualbox on a 64-bit Macbook.

    I an working on an android project whereby i need to set my map to zoom in and show a more detailed view of my map, like the streets of where i want my coordinates to triangulate. The problem is in Mapview class, setStreetView is deprecated, wat is the alternative?   • Advantage to parsing Excel Spreadsheet data vs. CSV?

    I have tabulated data in an Excel spreadsheet (file size will likely never be larger than 1 mb). I want to use PHP to parse the data and insert in to a MySQL database. Is there any advantage to keeping the file as an .xls/.xlsx and parsing it using a PHP Excel Parsing Library? If so, what are some good libraries to use? Obviuously, I can save the .xls/.xlsx as a CSV and handle the file that way. Thanks!

  • What is a simple way to add a timer to a method

    The following is in C#. I'm trying to do something very simple (I think). I have a method that loads an XML document XDocument doc = XDocument.Load(uri); , but I don't want to tie up pc resources if there are issues (connectivity, document size, etc.). So I'd like to be able to add a timeout variable that will cut the method off after a given number of seconds. I'm a newbie when it comes to asynchronous programming and find it confusing that there are so many examples written so many different ways . . . and none of them appear simple. I'd like a simple solution, if possible. Here's my thoughts so far on possible solution paths: 1) A method that wraps the existing load public XDocument LoadXDocument(string uri, int timeout){ //code } 2) A wrapper, but as an extension method XDocument doc = XDocument.LoadWithTimeout(string uri, int timeout); 3) A generic extension method. Object obj = SomeStaticClass.LoadWithTimeout(??? method, int timeout); 3), on its face seems really nice, because it would mean being able to generically add timeouts to many different method calls and not specifically tied to one type of object, but I suspect that it is either i)impossible or ii) very difficult.     I have an html table nested in an html table cell. I want the nested table to use the full size of the cell it is nested in. When I use firefox or google chrome I get the result I want but when I use Internet Explorer 8 (even if I use td style="height="100%") the height of the nested cell depends on it's content. As a result I get whitespace before and after my nested table.

  • Should I move client to Lamp or develop on Wamp?

    I have never developed for WAMP, the hosting guy for my new client says they are using Windows servers, they can setup PHP and MySQL for me, but they cannot switch to a *nix server. He said there are some nuances from PHP on *nix Vs. win. So my question is, if I have never programmed PHP on win, should I go through the hassle of switching hosts (since they cannot do *nix themselves), or are the differences slight enough that it shouldn't be too big a problem for me? (side note: the state of the clients website has no effect since it is a static all-flash site and is going to be completely rebuilt) Thanks!
