Lots of people think that once their new website is live on the Internet that they can sit back, relax and watch the money roll in. The really hard work has not actually even begun though. Why?
Microsoft has unveiled the Release Candidate of the Silverlight 4 SDK. This latest version delivers hundreds of features and controls that present the leading edge in rapid, powerful application development. Note: this is a developer release only that does not have "go-live" licensing available or an end-user runtime....Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. Take a look: here.
<b>beltzner:</b> "Today, I presented an early product plan for Firefox 4 to the Mozilla community (live, over the web!) to share our vision for the next version of Firefox, and what projects are underway to realize it. Then I invited everyone to get involved by joining our engineering or product development efforts."
Project teams are faced with tight deadlines for enterprise application implementations or upgrades. Learn how organizations can reduce their time to deployment by using pre-built content for Oracle User Productivity Kit. When organizations use this content for baseline system transaction flows early in a project, they can then simply modify and update the content as the application evolves to create user acceptance test scripts, transaction recordings, job aids, classroom training, online training, and support materials post-go-live. The value of pre-built content dramatically reduces time to deployment and overall implementation costs.
I've read documentation for various ftp daemons and various long threads about the security implications of using a chroot environment for an ftp server when giving users write access. If you read the vsftpd documentation, in particular, it implies that using chroot_local_user is a security hazard, while not using it is not. There seems to be no coverage of the implications of allowing the user access to the entire filesystem (as permitted by their user and group membership), nor to the confusion this can create.
So, I'd like to understand what is the correct method to use in practice. Should an ftp server with authenticated write-access users provide a non-chroot environment, a chroot environment, or some other option? Given that Windows ftp daemons don't have the option to use chroot, they need to implement isolation otherwise. Do any unix ftp daemons do something similar?
I want to install ubuntu 12.04 LTS along side windows 7 on my Asus 1005P Eee PC. I tried to install it with the Live USB created with the "Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.0.2.exe" but failed. Alternatively, I downloaded the "wubi.exe" installer from www.ubuntu.com, but it does not run on my pc. Is this version of ubuntu incompatible for the given hardware for side by side installation with windows 7?

I really like bitmap fonts for programming/terminal. As far as I know there are two bitmap fonts with good unicode support:
Unifont
Fixed
The problem is that I have a really high resolution screen, and they're both too small. Fixed does include a large size (10x20) but it looks really bad (it's basically always bold, and bold is a different face).
Are there any other bitmap fonts with unicode support and large sizes? Terminus is the only font with a decent size but it doesn't have good unicode support. Having good coverage for mathematical symbols would be enough, since that's what I need.
<b>Technology & Life Integration:</b> "This is such a common occurrence for windows users that, where I live at least, most computer shops offer a windows re-installation service for around $20US. This is a good little money spinner"
With the economic crunch that everyone has been experiencing, who doesn't want to earn some extra cash? Thanks to the internet, making extra cash or even enough money to live on has become accessible to many. Where do we get money-making websites for free?
TVPs offer several performance optimization possibilities that other bulk operations do not allow, and these operations may allow for TVP performance to exceed other bulk operations by an order of magnitude, especially for a pattern where subsets of the data are frequently updated.

Given a administrative area with urls like this:
wp-admin/
wp-admin/whatever
wp-admin/another-page
wp-adminsecretlogin/
A standard basic-auth coverage would provide a username and password prompt on all three urls, and return a 403 on all failed auth attempts. This is a pretty obvious signal that something exists there, and thus is an invitation to script/brute force access.
I would like to instead, require basic auth everywhere, but when not authenticated, not prompt for username and password, and instead return a 404 not found error for all urls except a wp-adminsecretlogin/ url. At that individual-to-the-site url, basic auth could go through, and unlock the rest of the administrative functionality (though the standard application login would still be necessary).
How would I do that via apache .htaccess or .conf directives?
On 18th of April we are hosting a live webcast where we will be demonstrating the step by step process of how to create an Agile BI application with Oracle Endeca Information Discovery. Many partners understand the positioning and the message, but are curious to understand what the tool looks like, and what it is like to work with it. I have a luks setup with encrypted partition. And I don't want everyone on my computer to see that I have such partition. Unfortunately it shows up in the nautilus "devices" panel as "Encrypted partition".
Is there a way to prevent it from showing there? I plan to setup authentication with a keyfile on usb, but for now I can live without the gnome authentication dialog, and open and mount the partition from command line.

Though I've used Ubuntu for a few years, I'm new to installation. Previously I had help and now I'm doing it alone (moved across the world).
Windows 8.1 came preinstalled on my new laptop (Toshiba Satellite C70-A-17C - Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 750 GB HDD). I have already followed a few steps I found online to prepare for a dual install (with Ubuntu 14.04).
I backed up Windows, created a bootable Ubuntu USB and DVD (just in case one didn't work), turned off fast boot and secure boot, and shrunk C:/. The new unallocated drive portion is 292.97 GB.
After shrinking C:/, I restarted Windows a couple of times to make sure everything was working fine (it is). I then attempted to install with the Ubuntu live USB. However, the Ubuntu installer doesn't see that Windows 8.1 is already installed. I don't understand, and don't want to mess with Ubuntu partitioning when I don't know where the partitions will be created. My concern is that, if I go further with the installation process, Windows might be overwritten or compromised in some way.
I then tried to reboot using the Ubuntu live DVD, thinking I might get a different result. However, I can't figure out how to make the laptop boot from the CD drive. I went into the BIOS and found no option there, either.
Any help is very appreciated!
EDIT:
Looks like I can't link directly to each photo.
Here is my album of screenshots:

Here you can see that there's no option to boot from CD drive, only USB.
Everything looks okay so far.
I don't understand this. Ubuntu has not yet been installed. Unmounting partitions? (I chose 'no'.)
Even though the laptop came pre-installed with Windows 8.1, the Ubuntu USB installer can't see it. I chose 'something else'.
I need to pick and format partitions. I scrolled down and took a second shot to include all information. Completely lost and cancelled installation.

I'm interested in ways that are both specific to certain routers, and generic.
When I say generic, I don't necessarily mean a one way that works for many.. but it can also be a generic answer, so mentioning solutions for different situations.
So not just the one router I mention. Explanations are important, as well as all the ways.

SQL Server has produced some excellent High Availability options, but I was looking for an option that would allow me to access my secondary database without it being read-only or in restoring mode. I need the ability to see transactions occur and query the secondary database.

With an earlier-than-normal departure this morning to avoid the stalemate known as traffic congestion, I suddenly realized what I had failed to grab on my way out the door... my company ID badge. Unfortunately, at the time of my epiphany, I was far enough into commuter no-man's land where turning back would completely negate my early departure and increase my overall drive time exponentially. Not being one to retrace my steps, I decided to press on.
Upon arrival at the office and with an hour to go before a security guard would be on duty, I started thinking about the number of times I had forgotten my ID vs. the number of times I had forgotten my phone. While rare on both accounts, my ID was most likely the missing artifact.
I then wondered why there isn't an app for my smartphone that allows me to verify my credentials with my employer and then, provided with a secure token for the day, have the ability to access my building's card entry system. On many levels, this seems much more secure than an ID card which can be lost, stolen or even forged and then used simply by tailgating into and around buildings at facilities where card scanning can generally be avoided.
As it turns out, another building on the campus has 24 x 7 guard coverage, so I was able to gain access in a relatively short time and secure a temporary ID badge. Once inside and online, a quick internet search on the subject of smartphone badge access shows that efforts are underway to do exactly what I was thinking needed to be done. Having not spent any time studying about the technology, I discovered that it relies on Near Field Communications (NFC) enabled smartphones (of which, mine does not provide). The only other option would require modifications to the security infrastructure to support alternative authentication technologies, such as barcode readers, which would be extremely costly to implement.
For now, my best option is to put my corporate ID under my car keys...
